ARNST - Arthur. The death of Mr. Arthur Arnst of Evergreen Country Home, LeRoy, (and formerly of Regina and Jansen), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2009. He was 95 years of age and the last surviving member of his generation. Arthur will be lovingly remembered by his five daughters: Dolores (Cliff) Armstrong of St. Albert, AB; Donelda (Walter) Klinger of Jansen; Pat Hilderman of Regina; Lois (Edward) Krieger of Jansen; and Janet (Chester) Jones of Alcomdale, AB; and by 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service for Arthur will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen, on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Lisa Skogsrud. Interment will follow at Jansen Public Cemetery. BAERWALDT - Evelyn Hilda (nee Lissel). On Thursday, August 29, 2013 Evelyn passed away at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her parents Ted and Mary Lissel, loving husband Fred, sister Jean and brothers-in-law Ben Geschwandtner, Jim McGovern, Wayne Seidens and Walter Geppert. Evelyn is survived by her sons Russell (Caterina), Wayne (Dallas), Mark and her only daughter, Margaret (David) and granddaughter Julie. She is also survived by her sisters Georgina, Helen and Terry, and brothers Gordon (Norma), James (Karen); cousin Gordon Lissel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn grew up a strong prairie girl on the family farm near Jansen, SK, lived through the character defining years of The Great Depression, attended public school, and then moved to Regina to work as a clerk before dating Fred August Baerwaldt. Evelyn and Fred were married in 1956 and farmed near Dafoe until 1967 when the family moved to Regina. Evelyn was a super supportive mom, encouraging all kids to acquire the best education possible in the areas of study they enjoyed most while being sure to hone their skills in extracurricular activities that included hockey, baseball, football or Brownies. She loved camping and was always keen to help organize vacation trips whenever summer holidays rolled around. She was very active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and volunteered for many years with the Victoria Order of Nurses and the Canadian Cancer Society. Our sweet mother will be missed. We are thankful to have had such a kind, devoted and loving mother who was always on our side. She really enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Julie and gave good parenting advice. The numerous good times had as a family will be cherished. Evelyn now joins Fred, her soul mate, in heaven. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Monday, September 2nd, 2013 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Jim Chimirri-Russell officiating. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hilda Bonstrom on Wednesday July 14th, 2010. Mom was born on June 6th, 1912 to Pauline and Gottfried Meger at Jansen, Sask. Mother is survived by her daughter Dorothy; sons Art (Marilyn) and Merlyn (Mary); sisters Martha Hoppe and Alice French; granddaughters Cherie (Doug) Lawrence, Carmelle (Kirk) Blomquist, Marcie (Dave) Arnold, Kristie (Thorsten Reszat) Bonstrom, Michelle (Steve) Peake, and Melanie (Peter) Steffener; and 11 greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Melvin, five brothers and four sisters. Mom received her education at Kirthshill School north of Biggar. She worked at various locations ending up at Sander Bonstrom's farm as domestic help. It was here that she met, then married Melvin Bonstrom in 1934. Together they purchased some land and settled north of Kinley where they raised their three children until 1948 when Dad passed away. She continued to reside on the farm until 1964 when she moved to Saskatoon to reside with Dorothy. She then took up custodian duties at the U of S Residences until she retired in 1977. Mom was active in her community for many years as a member of Crocus Vale Ladies Aid, Liberty Rebecca Lodge, Trinity Lutheran Church and playing the organ when called upon for Kinley United Church. She was a loving mother, grandma and great-grandma and we will miss the many pleasures she pursued; cooking, crafts, a deep passion for gardening and flowers, as well as showing her sense of humour. The funeral service will be at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 19th, 2010, conducted by Pastor Gene Grant. Interment will take place at Wheatfield Cemetery, Kinley, SK. BRAITENBACH - Arthur Manuel. The death of Art Braitenbach of Saskatoon, (and formerly of the Jansen district), occurred at City Hospital, Saskatoon, on Sunday, June 19, 2005. He was 85 years of age. Art will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Margaret (nee Torwalt) Braitenbach of Saskatoon; and by one son and two grandchildren: Rodney (Myrna) Braitenbach of Jansen and family, Tracy Braitenbach of Saskatoon, and Jared Braitenbach of Humboldt. The Funeral Service for Art will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen, on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Scott Brown. Interment will follow at the Jansen Public Cemetery. BRAITENBACH - Christine Pauline (nee Briske), 1916 - 2005. Christine, third of six daughters, born to Robert and Adina (nee Weiss) Briske on September 19, 1916 at Jansen, SK; passed away on November 28, 2005 at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Saskatoon, SK. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Theodore; and three sisters, Ida at birth, Veronica and Katherine. Left to mourn are her four children and their families, son, Harvey (Adeline) with children, Daryl, Terri (Greg) McCulloch and their children, Jamie and Jordon, and Dale (Janelle); daughter, Marilyn (Vic) Kowalski with children, Trevor (Loraine) and their children, Tyler, Karyn and Crystal, and Kevin (Debbie) and their children, Christopher, Travis, Alicia and Kaileen; son, Kelly (Angela) with children, Simon (Leila) and their son, Harper, and Megan (Bruce); daughter, Lavine Tilsley with children, Maria (Omar), Ashley, Graham and Kristina. Fr. Matthew Hertz, OMI, Celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. BREHM - Mary (nee Kral). Our Lord took his servant Mary home on April 17th, 2008. Our much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother will be remembered by her husband, Emil, of 57 years; her children, Edna Messett, Donna (Gregor) Smith, Eileen (Louis) Criebardis, and Randy Brehm; her grandchildren, Kaillie (Preston) Wald, Kari (Greg) Fleck, Christiane, Anna Leah, and Monique Smith, Stellanie (Blaine) Hyer, Mary, Theo, and Katerina Criebardis; her great-grandchildren, Drayton and Reid Wald, Parker and Isaac Fleck. Mary Brehm was born December 7th, 1932 to Zuzanna and John Kral at Jansen, SK. On January 6, 1933 she was received as a child of God in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen. At the age of 14 she re-affirmed the promise made for her at her baptism. Her Christian faith was a vital part of her life. Mary attended Bieberdorf Country School. After finishing school she worked at Petrich's Store in Jansen where she met Emil Brehm. They were married July 12, 1950 and they lived on the farm till 1957, later moving to Saskatoon. Mary enjoyed the outdoors. Spring was her favorite time of the year with birds singing and nature coming back to life again. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and taking care of her small family. After all the children were attending school, Mary again took up her career as a store clerk, working for Locomart, IGA, and Safeway for 20 years. She retired in 1989 and loved her leisure time travelling with her husband and family, especially the camping trips in summer. Mary was predeceased by daughter, Sherrie in 1977; her parents, Zuzanna and John Kral; and her nephew, Darcy Kral. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held on Monday, April 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Preston Avenue and Main Street, Saskatoon. A private family Interment will take place earlier that morning. BRISKE - Alvin Briske, 86 years of Jansen, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Humboldt District Hospital. Alvin was born on April 1, 1925 to Alvin and Anna Briske at home in the Jansen district. He grew up in the area, attending Alton School. Alvin loved the farm, it was not a job to him, it was his life. He eventually took over the family grain operation which he was actively involved in until just last year. On June 26, 1947, he married Margaret Biedler and together they raised a family of three sons. The boys were all called upon to help with the farming as they were growing up, however only Larry chose to also make this his lifestyle. Throughout the years, Alvin also ran a TV and radio repair business from their home, often making house calls as well. Alvin was involved in their community and area, serving on the Board of Directors for LeRose Lodge in LeRoy for 15 years and as a Trustee for the Jansen School District for 20 years. He was an avid and accomplished curler for many years, while in more recent years he enjoyed the games on TV. Fishing and golfing were other pastimes that he enjoyed participating in. Alvin enjoyed music, especially the old time tunes and played the accordion. Although he enjoyed many activities over the years, farming always took first place and everything else was worked around that. Alvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Margaret "Peggy" Briske (nee Biedler) of Jansen; daughter-in-law, two sons, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Pamala Briske of Jansen and family, Shannon (Jill) Briske and children Cassidy, Mason and Berlyn; and Byron Briske (fianc�, Danielle), all of Saskatoon, and Meagan Briske of Dubai; Dale (Diane) Briske and family, Marcus Briske and Lauren Briske, all of Edmonton, AB; and Paul (Joanne) Briske and son Maxwell, all of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Anna Briske; son, Larry Briske; and one brother and three sisters: Adolph (Cecilia) Briske, Tina (Joe) Koshinsky, Anne (Max) Federson, and Mary (William) Arnst. The Funeral Service for Alvin was held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Lisa Skogsrud, with organist Elaine Siegel. BRISKE - Katherine (Sister Adina). It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sr. Adina, religious of Our Lady of Sion, who died suddenly on 26 June in the Convent of Sion on Acadia Drive where she resided since 1996. Sr. Adina was born December 12, 1914 in Jansen, Saskatchewan. Sr. Adina entered the novitiate of the sisters of Sion in Prince Albert in 1935 and pronounced her first vows in Paris in 1938. From Paris, she left immediately for her life as a missionary in Brazil, helping with teaching and other ministries in the boarding school of the Sisters of Sion in Campanha, Sao Paulo. In 1968 she moved to the very poor of north east Brazil in the state of Sergipe where she spent many years in pastoral work in the small village of Divina Pastora. There she was instrumental in bringing carpentry to the boys, typewriting and sewing to the girls, founding a nursery and a kindergarten, obtaining a lunch program for the poor in school as well as many other services to the people. She was greatly loved by the people who even now phone or e-mail her here in Saskatoon. In 1995, Sr. Adina returned to Canada for her retirement. While she missed Brazil, she was happy to be near her family these last years. Sr. Adina will be greatly missed by her religious community and by her three sisters, Christina Braitenbach, Johanna Schroeder (husband Otto) and Frances Schroeder as well as by several much loved nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Adina and Robert Briske of Jansen, Sask. and by two sisters Ida Briske who died in infancy and Veronica Kotschorek and by brothers-in-law Ted Braitenbach, Jim Schroeder and Gus Kotschorek. The funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Msgr. Morand in the convent chapel at 333 Acadia Drive on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The rite of Committal will follow in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. BRISKE - Larry. The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Larry Briske, 60 years of Jansen, SK occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Larry was born at Wynyard on October 17th, 1949 the eldest of three sons to Mr. Alvin and Margaret (nee Biedler) Briske. Farming was very much part Larry's life he took pride in his work on the family farm. Larry was proud of his family and supported their endeavours, making many trips to watch his boys play hockey and Meagan skate. He was a core member of the Jansen Band, played fastball with the Jansen Jacks but curling was his main love. Just this past winter he won his Purple Heart and represented Saskatchewan at the Masters Curling Championships in St. John's, New Brunswick. Larry was a gentle soul and he walked with a softness everyone could see. Larry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 38 years Pamala (nee Anderson) Briske of Jansen; three children and three grandchildren: Shannon (Jill) Briske and children, Cassidy, Mason and Berlyn; Byron Briske all of Saskatoon and Meagan Briske of Dubai; parents, Alvin and Margaret of Jansen; two brothers, Dale (Diane) Briske and children, Marcus and Lauren of Edmonton, AB and Paul (Joanne) Briske and son Max of Calgary, AB; parents-in-law, Andres and Shirley Anderson of Saskatoon; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Laurel Anderson (Tim Rienhart) of Calgary, AB, Andrea (Bruce) Turner and family, Tawnya, Tracy and Taylor all of Lanigan, Rory Anderson of Drake and Scott (Jewel) Anderson of Humboldt and daughter Tiffany of Moose Jaw; and by many good friends. DIENER - Ray Diener, age 82 years of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2011 with his wife at his side. Ray was born on September 30, 1928 in Jansen, where he received his education. He farmed in the Lampard district, worked at the Sask. Liquor Board, as well as doing carpentry work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling and time spent with grandchildren and later with great grandchildren. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 30 years, Lydia; step children, Ray, Brian (Regina) and Barbara; grandchildren, great grandchildren, two sisters, Mary and Eleanor; one brother, John; nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth; first wife, Ruth; and brothers-inlaw, Emil Baerwalt and Frank Hill. The Funeral Mass for Ray will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Emile April. DIENER - Ronald (1951 � 2016). It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Ron, age 64, on January 12, 2016. Ron was born in Wynyard on June 10, 1951. He grew up in Jansen and was active in baseball, water sports and later curling where he spent many weekends in bonspiels. Ron married Joyce (Daelick) on June 10, 1972 and they made their home in Lanigan. After an almost 40 year career at PotashCorp, Ron and Joyce retired and moved to Saskatoon. Ron was a quiet man with a witty sense of humour and spent much time at the family cabin he built at Barrier Lake enjoying boating, golfing, snowmobiling, and relaxing with family. He is survived by his wife Joyce (Daelick), two daughters Carla (Ryan) Mahussier and Terri (Chad) Sewell, four grandchildren Taylor, Bailey, Ashlyn and Jaden, father John (Margaret) Diener, mother-in- law Elsie Daelick, uncle Cliff Mienhart, brother and sisters-in-law: Mary Daelick, Janice (Jim) Froats, Allan (Virginia) Daelick, Joan (Gary) Froats and many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his mother Joyce Diener, father-in-law Alfred Daelick, aunt Donna Mienhart, and brother-in-law Ray Daelick. A private memorial service was held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. EGLER - Clara Ella (nee Hein) was called home to the Lord's side on June 20, 2008 at the age of 81 years. She was born on September 15, 1926 on the family farm near the town of Jansen to her loving parents Ferdinand and Nathalia (nee Rucks) Hein. Clara was baptized and confirmed at Jansen Lutheran Church and carried her faith with her throughout her life. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Emmanuel W. Egler, which blessed them with three children. Clara will be fondly remembered by all that knew her especially her husband Manuel; children Diane (Jim) Podjan, Allan (Terrie) Egler and Elmer (Anita) Egler; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Evelyn (Gordon) Lissel and brothers Erwin (Helene) Hein and Wilfred (Ruth) Hein. Clara's greatest pride was her family, who will continue to carry her in their hearts. A FUNERAL SERVICE celebrating Clara's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, SK S4P 1P7 on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow in Regina Memorial Gardens. EGLER - Emmanuel Walter passed away peacefully on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Manuel was born to Adolph and Marianne (Torwalt) Egler on October 2, 1922 at the family farm near Jansen. He was known to be a hard worker all of his life farming and laboring within the district of Jansen. Although he no longer farmed actively after 1973, Manuel was always a farmer at heart. Moving to Regina, Manuel worked at the General Hospital for 14 years as a housekeeper in the operating room. Manuel was happiest when he was in the midst of his family. He was predeceased by his wife Clara (Hein); brother Albert; and sister Olga Schieman. Manuel will be fondly remembered by his family; children Diane (Jim) Podjan, Allan (Terrie) Egler, and Elmer (Anita) Egler; brother Arnold Egler; sister Erna (Henry) Sackvie; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A MEMORIAL SERVICE commemorating Emmanuel's life will be held at Trinity's Lutheran Church, Regina, SK. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. FRIESEN - Friedrich passed away on December 14, 2004 at Sunnyside Nursing Home. Friedrich Friesen was born in Russia on November 4, 1913 to John and Agatha Friesen. He immigrated to Canada in November 1924 with his parents and siblings. Eventually they settled on a farm in the Jansen, SK district. As Fred got older he had difficulty with his hearing; a hearing aid helped for awhile but in time even that wasn't effective. He had two surgeries but they did not solve the problem so his family and friends had to learn to communicate with Fred by writing to him. He also learned to lip read and was able to speak so conversations were always possible. In 1949 Fred married Amalie Rempel who had come to Canada from Germany after the war. They lived on his parent's farm until they moved to Saskatoon in 1973 where they retired. Fred and Amalie were members of Nutana Mennonite Church. Amalie passed away in 1986 and Fred made a move to Bethany Manor three years later. Fred soon enjoyed getting to know his neighbour, Helen Dyck and in March 1991, they were married. Fred and Helen attended Cornerstone Mennonite Church. Sadly, Helen died in February 2000 and Fred was alone once again. His health soon started to fail and after a number of small strokes, was admitted to Sunnyside Nursing Home in approximately 2002. Fred had many interests, among them a love of travelling, a love of reading and baseball. In his later years, he became quite interested in the topic of weather, clouds and storms. We will miss his conversations as he made many observations, even with his deafness, that we as "hearing " people did not notice. Fred is predeceased by his parents; his two wives, two brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law and two nephews. He leaves to mourn his brother, Henry (Helen) Friesen; sisters, Kay Friesen, Agatha Morton and Mary (Bill) Riesen; and numerous nieces and nephews. From his second marriage he also leaves to mourn his step-daughter, Karen (Mel) Faust; his step daughter-in-law, Debbie Anderson; and step-grandchildren, Angela Bright, Jennifer Reimer, Christopher Dyck, Alicia Dyck and Devon Anderson. His funeral will be held at Bethany Manor, 110 La Ronge Road, Saskatoon, SK on Friday, December 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Viewing will be held from 9:30 10:30 before funeral. HAMILTON - Robert "Bob" Knight Hamilton (August 13, 1937 � July 8, 2012). It is with broken hearts that the family of Robert Knight Hamilton of LeRoy, SK, announces his death on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. He was 74 years of age. Bob, the oldest of three, was born on August 13, 1937, to Larry and Annie (nee Knight) Hamilton at home on their farm east of Jansen. Later, the family moved to a farm north of Jansen. Bob attended Illinois Country School until Grade 9, and completed high school in LeRoy. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed football and curling during those years. Bob furthered his education at the University of Saskatchewan, where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While there, wrestling was his main sport, which he excelled at and competed at various locations in Canada and the United States. Bob also took flying lessons, passed his exams, and bought a small plane, which was great entertainment for his family and friends. He also owned an ultra-light aircraft and remote-controlled airplanes that he enjoyed as a hobby. On August 5, 1961, Bob married Laureen Elke at the LeRoy United Church. They lived on Bob�s parents� home quarter in a trailer the first summer, and then Bob started to build a house. Bob and Laureen helped his parents farm and later, they bought more land to add to the family farm. They also added leaf-cutter bees and alfalfa to the enterprise. Between 1963 and 1970, Bob and Laureen�s marriage was blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter. A community-minded person, Bob belonged to various boards and helped out at a number of functions in both Jansen and LeRoy. He always lived life to the fullest and pursued a number of hobbies and interests including travelling with Laureen to bee meetings, square dances, and shooting competitions. Bob was a member of the Nokomis Gun Club and also had a small silhouette range on the farm that has been used for a provincial competition. A social butterfly, he also loved visiting and going to auction and garage sales, always scouting for a new treasure. He could never turn down a bargain! Bob and Laureen both enjoyed people and company, and always succeeded in carrying on the well-known Hamilton tradition for hospitality. Bob especially derived much joy from his grandchildren, who were all close at hand, and doted on them as much as possible. Eventually, most of Bob and Laureen�s farm land was sold. Bob semi-retired about two years ago, but continued living on the farm where he liked to putter and keep his collections. Bob will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of almost 51 years, Laureen (nee Elke) Hamilton of LeRoy; three children and seven grandchildren: Howard Hamilton of LeRoy and family, Emily and Shannon; Cory Hamilton of LeRoy and family, Janine, Briar and Derrick; and Terri Hamilton (Neil Reimer) of LeRoy and family, Merik and Xander; two daughters-in-law: Ramona Hamilton and Glenda Hamilton; two brothers: Dave (Margaret) Hamilton of Nanaimo, BC; and Don (Pat) Hamilton of Saskatoon, SK; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other Hamilton relatives and in-laws of the Elke family. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Annie (nee Knight) Hamilton; and by many other Hamilton relatives and in-laws of the Elke family. A Memorial Gathering will be held for Bob at the LeRoy Wildlife Hall, LeRoy, on Friday, July 27, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. The M.C. will be Terri Hamilton, and the microphone will be offered to anyone wanting to share some memories. Interment will take place at a later date. HEIN - Wilfred. The family is very saddened to announce that Mr. Wilfred Hein, 80 years, of Lanigan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence on Monday, August 22, 2011. Wilfred was born on March 10, 1031 to Ferdinand and Nathalia (nee Rucks) Hein in Jansen. He attended Bieberdorf School where he obtained his grade eight education. He often spoke of his fond memories which included his classmates, teachers and ball games against Haliburton. Following his education he began farming with his parents and helped many neighbours in the area. Wilfred did take a trip to Ontario where he worked for one winter. He returned in the spring to meet the love of his life Ruth Epp and on October 22, 1952 they were wed at Jansen where they began their farming career and raised six children. Wilfred led an extremely busy life as a young man. They farmed in Jansen until 1966 and then they literally picked up their home and moved to Guernsey where Wilfred was employed by the Guernsey Artificial Breeders Co-op as well farming a quarter of land and milking a small herd of Ayrshires. He loved his Ayrshire cows and was a tireless promoter of the breed. He continued the Artificial Insemination business and built a family dairy. In 1989 Wilfred retired only to begin new hobbies such as gardening and touring. He was reacquainted with his guitar and spent time entertaining at many senior homes in the area. His special talent in composing music led Wilfred to making a memorable CD. At a very young age he confirmed his belief in Christ as his saviour and Lord at Zion Lutheran Church at Jansen and continued to be very active through out his life in the church and community. He was very active in developing the J.E.B. Community Center as well as the Hub in Lanigan. Nothing was as important as his family. Wilfred valued the time spent with his family but really cherished his grandchildren. He loved young people and often encouraged them to speak up and get involved. Since the new year Wilfred's health declined and it was his wish, with the support of his family to be at home until Lord Jesus Christ called him to his eternal rest on Monday morning with his family at his side. HENNING - Elmer Irvin Henning, 76 years, of Humboldt and formerly of LeRoy, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt. Elmer was born on January 8, 1931 at home on the family farm in the Jansen/Esk district to August and Hilda Marie (nee Elke) Henning. He grew up in this area and attended Deer Plain School. Elmer went on to further his education by taking a vocational agriculture course in Saskatoon. He then moved to the LeRoy area and began farming. On July 20, 1954, he married Myrtle Anderson and their marriage was blessed with three children. Elmer was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards over the years including LeRoy Zion Lutheran Church Board, Credit Union Board, LeRoy School Board, Conservation and Development Board, Sask Wheat Pool, Coop Board, and the Curling Rink Board. He was also the drawmaster at the curling rink and looked after the maintenance of the ice. Elmer served his farming community as a Councilor for the R.M. of LeRoy #339. For a number of years, he also coached the LeRoy Braves Senior Hockey team. He was so busy with all of his many volunteer activities that you could say his farm was his hobby. Elmer and Myrtle retired from farming and moved into the City of Humboldt in 2002. He enjoyed his visits with friends during his morning coffee at Trans Cafe and his afternoon coffee at Dairy Queen. Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle Henning of Humboldt; their three children and three grandchildren: Pastor Kelly Henning of Lake Alma; Tannis Henning of Wynyard; and Margot (Dr. Pat) Mihalicz and their family, Patrick, Nastassia and Aaron, all of Calgary; two brothers, Norman (Doreen) Henning of Edmonton, AB, and Douglas (Betty) Henning of Duncan, BC and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, August and Hilda Henning and sister, Geraldine (Richard) Miller. Interment will follow at a later date in the LeRoy Cemetery. HENNING - Emil Martin. Emil entered into the fullness of eternal life on February 15, 2004. Emil was born on March 28, 1911 to Martin and Christina (Kern) on their homestead in the RM of Prairie Rose. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen. On November 26, 1940, Emil was united in marriage with Anne, nee Basaraba. They made their home on the farm for 16 years when they built a home in Lanigan. During this time, they were blessed with two sons, Ken and Grant. Emil farmed until he was 65 when Grant and Linda took over. With his deep farm roots, it pleased him to take a lunch bucket to the farm to do odd jobs until he was 90. His large garden and yard were always well kept and bountiful. He was active in the church and always ready to help friends and neighbors. Emil was an avid sports enthusiast, having played hard ball, hockey, curling and pool. In later years, it was bowling and shuffleboard. The grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was so very special to them from toddler to adult. Emil will be remembered by his wife, Anne of 63 years; son, Ken (Cathy), Lynnell and Marty; son, Grant (Linda), David, Heather and Michelle (Josh); sister, Helen Lemke and brother-in-law, Fred Basaraba; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our mother was born in Jansen, Sask. on November 25th, 1915. She died a very peaceful death at Spruce Manor Care Home in Dalmeny on February 21, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband John Herman on August 30,1996 and granddaughter Delaney Jane Johnson in 1965. There are also eight great-grandchildren. Our mother lived a long, healthy, active life. She was a very independent minded woman, and in many ways ahead of her time. She moved into the workforce and established a career when many married woman were not. For many years she worked in the accounting department of MacCosham Van Lines. Mom and Dad enjoyed many summers at their cabin in Emma Lake surrounded by family and friends. She especially enjoyed having her grandchildren around. She was a unique person who will live on forever in our hearts and minds. She will be missed. There will be a private family mass and celebration in Victoria where the majority of her family live. JOHNSON - Margaret (nee Wilson) Johnson late of Weyburn passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Margaret was predeceased by her mother & father, Edward and Lydia Wilson; her husband, Mervin Johnson and her step-mother, Margaret Wilson. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children, Allen (Marilyn) Johnson of Creston, BC, their daughters, Melanie (Leo) Bugera and their daughter, Meagan; Shannon (Jack) McNaughton and their sons, Connor and Camden; Duane (Sherrelle) Johnson of Tribune and their children, Janalyn, Lacey and Cody; Laureen (Doug) McPherson of Weyburn and their children, Dallas (Chelsey), Devin (Michelle) and their daughters, Gaia and Terra; sister, Pat McNeil of Regina; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lyons of Neepawa, MB and Ruby Frank of Penticton, BC as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Margaret was born January 12, 1915 at Jansen. After her mother�s death, Margaret, was cared for by her mother�s parents at Jansen until her father remarried. Due to her father�s employment as a banker the family moved frequently, eventually settling in the town of Tribune operating the Quality Store. She attended school in numerous locations in southern Saskatchewan, attaining her Grade 12. Her fondest memories were of living and attending school in Colgate and Tribune. She went on to obtain her Graduate Nursing Diploma at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn. Margaret started working at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn in 1938 and obtained her graduate nursing diploma in 1941. She worked at this facility until her marriage in 1942. Her last position at the hospital was running the Occupational Therapy Program where she became quite proficient in many kinds of fancy hand work which she continued to do. She enjoyed this position immensely and talked fondly of it over the years. Margaret married Mervin Johnson on November 20, 1942 at the United Church Manse in Midale. Margaret and Mervin spent many years farming and raising their family on the family farm in the Tribune area until they retired to Weyburn in 1979. Margaret and Mervin traveled on various bus tours to Eastern Canada and the United States, as well as to California and Mexico. Another highlight was traveling to various Silver Broom curling competitions held in Canada. In December of 2004 Margaret and Mervin moved to Parkway Lodge in Weyburn. In September 2010 Margaret moved to the Weyburn Special Care Home where she resided until her passing. Her houseplants were one of her many passions. She also enjoyed playing the piano, reading, knitting, crocheting, baking, collecting numerous recipes, gardening, crossword puzzles, and ceramics. Playing cards with family and friends was also something she enjoyed. And, a special highlight was playing games and doing puzzles with her grandchildren. She was also an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary Guild in Weyburn. Most of Margaret�s community involvement encompassed her church life. Margaret was the church pianist at various times at Tribune United. She taught Sunday School and was involved in the UCW. Upon their retirement to Weyburn, Margaret transferred her membership to Grace United Church where she was involved in the Lazy Daisy Unit of the UCW. She also enjoyed a lady�s bible study group which she attended weekly with friends. In her later years, Margaret enjoyed visits from her family and �Misty�, her daughter�s small dog. Margaret always loved small dogs and she always wished Misty could stay with her at the home. You would always see Margaret in the constant company of her husband Mervin, and she was very lonely after his passing. She will be sadly missed by all she knew and loved. The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Irvin Norman Kihn, 88 years, of Wynyard and formerly of Jansen, occurred on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Irvin, the youngest of 14 children, was born on June 14, 1927 at home on the family farm near Jansen to Karl and Amelia (nee Eichorst) Kihn. He grew up on the farm and attended Alton School. On April 19, 1950, Irvin married Mary Leffler. They operated a mixed farm near Jansen where they raised their family. Horses were Irvin�s passion; he was a true cowboy, always sporting his cowboy hat. He raised Tennessee Walking horses and was asked to lead parades in Jansen and the surrounding communities many times over the years. Irvin and Mary loved to dance. Over the years they enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and taught social dance. Irvin did leather craft, making many items for family and friends. He enjoyed a good card game and the camaraderie with friends. As his health began to decline, he took up gardening or anything to keep him busy outside. He was very proud of his children and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In December 2012, they moved to Wynyard and recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. The sudden and unexpected passing of Bernhard Klinger, 49 years of the Jansen district, occurred on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Bernhard was born on April 11, 1965 at Wynyard to Herbert and Else (nee Grueger) Klinger. He grew up on the family farm in the Jansen district, attending elementary school in Jansen and graduating from Lanigan High School in 1983. In 1984, he attended the Hertzing Institute in Winnipeg where he obtained a degree in business systems and computer programming which included accounting. From 1985 to 1993, Bernhard owned and operated a milk franchise for Dairy Producers Coop in Saskatoon. The love of farming that was instilled in him at a young age called him back to Jansen in 1993. From then until the present, he operated a cattle and grain farm. Bernhard had a green thumb and loved gardening. He lived a carefree life, enjoying entertaining others with his sense of humour. He took up bead working for a time, creating many intricate keepsakes for his friends and family. His happiest time was spent with his children. He was like a kid himself, enjoying watching them jump in the swimming pool, shooting off fireworks, having weiner roasts and generally having a fun time with them. He will be lovingly remembered by his four daughters and two sons: Amelia, Kendra, Keri, and Erin of Balgonie and Adam and Quinn of Kenaston; special friend, Crystal Wallas of Nokomis; and brother, Norbert Klinger (Laurie Kerr) of Semans and family Bob Kerr (Alicia Hickman) of Lanigan, Tamara Schuler of Edmonton, AB, Amanda Schuler and Katlyn Schuler, both of Semans and Kimberley Klinger of Powell River, BC. Bernhard was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Else Klinger. KLINGER - Else (nee Grueger) September 4, 1928 - March 29, 2014. Else was born in Volliginen, Poland to Ferdinand and Matilda (nee Fergin) Gr�ger. She grew up in a German community, in Poland and received her schooling there. Her mother died during WWII and Else helped to raise her younger sister and two brothers. After the war, she worked at the Salamander Shoe factory. Following a time of corresponding with Herbert Klinger in Canada, Else finally made her way here in 1959. She worked in Frank�s Caf� in Regina, where she learned the art of making pies. During this time, she got to know Herbert better and they married on July 18, 1959. They farmed in the Jansen area where she was active in the day to day operations of the farm, as well as keeping their home and raising their two sons. Else milked cows, looked after the pigs and chickens and sold eggs. She loved animals and had a soft spot for any that were sick or injured, often bringing them into the house to nurse them back to health. She had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed her garden. She started tomato plants early in the spring, sharing them with friends and neighbours and was just as quick to share the bounty of the harvest in the fall. She was an excellent cook and baker, as well as being skilled at sewing and mending Else was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended services regularly. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face. Else will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Herbert Klinger of Jansen; their two sons and their families: Norbert Klinger (Laurie Kerr) of Semans and family Bob Kerr of Semans, Tamara Schuler of Saskatoon, Amanda Schuler and Katlyn Schuler, both of Semans and Kimberley Klinger of Powell River, BC; and Bernard Klinger of Jansen and family Amelia, Kendra, Keri and Erin Klinger of Balgonie, and Adam and Quinn Klinger of Kenaston; one sister, Hilda Winkler of Germany and numerous nieces and nephews. KLINGER - Herbert. The death of Mr. Herbert Klinger, 90 years of Jansen, occurred on Monday, February 9, 2015. Herbert was born on May 27, 1924 in Planetzen, Lettland (Latvia) to Andrew and Luise (nee Redlich) Klinger. In 1949, he came with his family from Germany to Canada. They arrived in Halifax and travelled by train to Jansen, arriving on January 18, 1949. After becoming acquainted with the changes of living in Canada, Herbert went to New Sarepta, AB to work for his uncle Arnold Redlich. He returned to the Prairie Rose area in 1950, purchased some farm land and farmed with his parents until they moved to Regina in 1956. He ventured out to Ontario to work for the winter, returning to the farm for the summer and then to Regina the following fall. In 1959, he met Else Grueger in Regina and they married in Trinity Lutheran Church in Regina on July 18, 1959. They continued farming, and raised their two sons on the family farm. In 2009 Herbert and Else celebrated 50 years of marriage. Else spent a number of years in the Lanigan Hospital Long Term Care and passed away on March 29, 2014. Herbert continued to live on the farm until the present. Herbert will be lovingly remembered by his two sons and their families: Norbert Klinger (Laurie Kerr) of Semans and family Bob Kerr (Alicia Hickman) of Lanigan, Tamara Schuler of Edmonton, AB, Amanda Schuler and Katlyn Schuler, both of Semans and Kimberley Klinger of Powell River, BC; and Bernard Klinger of Jansen and family Amelia, Kendra, Keri and Erin Klinger of Balgonie, and Adam and Quinn Klinger of Kenaston; one brother, Ewalt Klinger of Regina; one sister, Agnes Leipert of Germany and numerous nieces and nephews from both locations. KLINGER - Margaret Elizabeth R.N., M.SC.N. � South Surrey, B. C. passed away on December 26, 2003. She was born in Jansen, Sk. and was predeceased by her parents Martha & John Klinger. She is survived by 3 brothers, Norman, Wilfred, & Wesley, and 3 sisters, Joyce, Edna, & Ella, as well, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. She trained as a Nurse at the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital; received her Masters at U of T; was Nursing Instructor on Faculty at UBC and at Kwantlen University College in BC. She will be greatly missed by her family and many loving friends whose lives she touched. A celebration of Margaret`s life took place on Friday January 2 in Vancouver. KOSCHINSKY - Herman age 90, passed away on March 24, 2005 at Saskatoon City Hospital. Originally from the Jansen area of Saskatchewan and subsequently a resident of LeRoy and then of Regina, Herman had resided at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Saskatoon since autumn 2002. Herman was the sixth of nine children born to Otto and Wilhelmina Koschinsky. Herman's parents and two of his older brothers (as infants) were among a group of German Russians who came to Canada in 1904. They eventually homesteaded and farmed in the Prairie Rose District northeast of Jansen. Herman was the last surviving member of the family. Herman spent his early years on the farm with his parents, brothers and sisters. He was a student through Grade 8 at Prairie Rose Public School, and that earliest part of his life remained among his fondest memories. Even eighty years afterwards he was always ready to talk about how he enjoyed his school experiences and about one of his teachers in particular, Miss Katherine Joyce. His interest in education persisted. When he later farmed in the Illinois School District, between LeRoy and Jansen, Herman served for many years as Secretary Treasurer, and he and his wife Olga always boarded the teacher. Herman quit farming in 1959 and moved to Regina. Here he pursued a number of occupations, among them working for a time helping to build community pastures in northern Saskatchewan. He ended his working career as a Shift Engineer with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, from which position he retired in 1982. Herman is survived by his two children, Gordon (with his wife Margaret), and Agnes Ziehl (with her companion Gary Randall), all of Saskatoon. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law (Linda Koshinsky and Gladys Koschinsky) and one brother-in-law (Herb Steinwandt), all of Winnipeg, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Herman leaves three grandchildren (offspring of Gordon and Margaret): Heather (wife of Kent McCue) of El Cerrito California, Eric (husband of Elizabeth) of Ottawa, and Justina (wife of Robert Sasata) of Saskatoon. There are six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Jansen Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday March 28 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Mark Hedlin will be officiating. Lewis passed away on Friday April 8, 2011 in Stensrud Lodge after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his wife of sixty-five years Mary (Sue); his children Marion (friend Will), Barry (Fay), Colin (Debbie), Colleen and Gordon (Brenda). He will also be missed by his fifteen grandchildren, the joys of his life. He and Mom were also blessed with thirteen greatgrandchildren and several foster greatgrandchildren. Dad leaves to mourn his sister Elsie (Warren) Robson and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held special places in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents Theodore Koshinsky and Amelia Sawatsky (Dalke) as well as ten of his siblings and their spouses. Dad grew up on a small farm near Jansen, SK. He joined the army and met mom while home on leave. They married in 1945 and raised their five children mainly on the co-op farm at South Allan. Dad coached baseball, curled, bowled and spent much time with his family and friends playing cards and helping with community functions. He and his family enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Marean Lake, SK. The family would like to thank all of Dad's doctors with special thanks to Dr. Karpinski. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. KRAUSE - Calvin Clarence Dr. On August 26, 2001 Dr. Calvin Krause of Jansen, Saskatchewan passed away at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn three children - Jon (Gloria) of Jansen, Cathy (Greg) of Brooks, Alberta, and Barbara (Denis) of Edmonton, Alberta; six grandchildren -Christopher, James, Daniel, Michael, Kathryn, and Bradley; his sisters Mary and Enid. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth. Cal was born November 10, 1923 in Jansen, to Daniel and Wanda (Mueller) Krause. In 1941 he joined the war effort as a RCAF wireless operator and remained involved in the reserves for many years. After the war he studied medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University and subsequently took specialty training in Urology at the University of Alberta. In 1961, Cal opened an Urology practice in Regina where he remained until his retirement. In 1987 he retired to his farm to pursue his second career as a farmer in which he actively engaged until just before his death. Funeral services will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Jansen on Friday, August 31 at 2:00 P.M. KRAUSE - Marie (nee Wicks) passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the age of 81. Marie was born October 23, 1932 in Brighton, England, where she grew up and attended school. At the age of seventeen, she joined the Women�s Land Army, where women were placed on farms to do the farming duties while the men went to war. She worked on a number of farms in England until the disbandment of this organization. She also worked in Italy, at the St. Paul�s Episcopal Church in Rome as an office assistant. When she emigrated to Canada, Marie pursued her passion of working on a farm. She was hired on a farm in Varennes, Quebec where she was involved with the farm tasks from milking, field work and preparing and showing cattle at various cattle exhibitions such as the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. In 1971, she came to Saskatchewan, married and became a dedicated farm wife. She loved the outdoors, gardening and tending the animals, birds and pets. In her retirement years, she also enjoyed knitting, oil painting and giving lots of special attention to her dog, Benji. Marie was a very kind and caring person and a special "Nana" to her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her family: Karen (Len) Trevena, Ryan, Barry (Donna) and Bernice (Art) Kruger; grandchildren: Doug (Kirstyn), Greg (Kayla), Patrick, Laura, Janelle (Karl), Brittany, Kaylee and Brett; and one great grandchild, Grace. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Jim Lotz, sister-in-law Enid Halldorson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was 68 years of age. Our beloved mother, Hildegard Langner went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 18th, 2008, at the age of 97 years. She was born July 14th, 1911, on a farm near Jansen SK, the oldest of six children: Herbert, Arnold, Harry, Eleanor, and Erwin (who died at 9 months of age). She married Edward Langner on April 17th, 1932, and lived in Wolverine, Jansen, and Lanigan, SK. Their children are: Ruby, Edwin, Mona, and Gerald, with an earlier brother having died in infancy. She loved music and was organist at church services, funerals, weddings, and many other occasions throughout her life. She was also involved in choir, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible studies, and prayer meetings. She served as Education Helper, Conference Secretary, and President in the Evangelical Lutheran Women. She was involved as chairperson in visiting the sick for the Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies Legion, and the Merry Mixers. She worked with the Stitchers making quilts, was active in the 4H program in Home Decorating, and helped the Red Cross and Bible Society programs. She also enjoyed handiwork such as crocheting, knitting, embroidering, and tatting. LEMKE - Helen. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Lemke, age 89, on June 24, 2004. A celebration of her life will be held at Jansen Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. LISSEL - Alfons Erwin passed away November 19, 2000 at the Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, SK., at the age of 80. Predeceased by his father Ludwig in 1939 and mother Katherine in 1943. Brothers Arthur in 1989, Adolf in 1969, Gustof in 1945, Henry in 1982, Sisters Pauline in 1922, Olga (Mann) in 1999. He leaves to mourn his sister Elsie of Milwaukee, Wis., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Jansen with Pastor Rick Johnson. Interment in Prairie Rose Cemetery. LISSEL - Ernie George. November 19, 1930 - September 19, 2001. Ernie was born at his Grandparents (Holfeld) farm near Dafoe, SK. Ernie was home with his family for the first 21/2 years. Then, due to his mothers ill health, he lived with his Grandparents until he started elementary school at Jansen in 1937. The experience of family life with the Holfeld Grandparents gave him a very large extended family. Ernie was a graduate of Luther College (1949), and Saskatoon Normal School (1950). He taught school at Lorenzo, Poplar View, and Raymore. In 1957 he returned to U of S and continued study toward an education degree. He then transferred to the College of Pharmacy (B.S.P. 1961). On September 17, 1960 Ernie married Margaret Huckle. Ernie worked as a pharmacist at Walker's Drugs and then with Pinder Drugs for 27 years retiring February 1, 1989. Ernie was a man of strong faith, and determination, and faced life with courage and bravery. Despite the many challenges (MS and cancer) life forced upon him, he remained strong in faith, believing the best about his fellow man and was devoted to family. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Ernie loved music, sang in church choir, and the University Chorus. At the end of his life he spent many hours listening to "Messiah" which relaxed him and gave him great pleasure. Ernie loved to visit, enjoyed meeting people and would gently discuss any topic of interest to them, in order to gain insight and understanding. Through many emjoyable hours of observing birds, deer, foxes, and plants, Ernie's love of nature and "live and let live" attitude prevailed. When Ernie's health detoriated, he spent many days observing nature through "His Window" at the acreage and on Discovery Channel. Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret (Huckle); daughter Jean (Doug) Brehon and their children Sean and Meghan; son Ryan (Nancy) Lissel and their children Kayla, Kirk, Kyle, Keaton; brothers Kurt (Bea) Lissel and Norman (Thelma) Lissel; several nieces and a nephew and the Huckle family. LYNCH - Donald Shakespeare passed away peacefully on May 16, 2008 at the age of 90. A Celebration of Don's life will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen SK. Don was predeceased by his wife Marion, sisters: Faye, Alice, and Mary; brothers: Kenneth and Hayden. He is survived by children: Brian (Lynne), Bob (Leslie), Terry (Peggy) and Shelley (Stan) Hein; grandchildren: James (Shannon), Richard (Deanna), Sean, Kevin, Tyler, Dustin, Stephanie, Brendan, Chelsey, Jackson, Fraser, and great grandchildren Seth, Jebb, and Maya; sisters: Jean Olsen and Betty Manyk; brother, Jack; sister-in-law Norma (Ken) Romuld; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Don, a farmer for many years, was an enthusiastic community member, coached youth hockey, loved to entertain with his harmonica and was proud of his Navy service. He was the last surviving member of the Lockwood Legion. He loved the outdoors, particularly the birds and will be forever remembered for his smile, his laugh and his love of visiting with others. MANYK - Steve. The death of Mr. Steve Manyk 82 years, of Jansen, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan on Sunday July 17, 2005 with his family at his side. Steve will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Betty, six children, 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. PAETSCH - Albert (1913 - 2004) 91 years old, formerly of the Jansen area and for the last 26 years of Saskatoon, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at City Hospital. He leaves to mourn his son, Lorne (Connie); granddaughter, Leigh-Ann (Dan) and Mitchell Moroz; Connie's sons, Sheldon Bjornson, Kirk (Dez) Jokob and Olivia Bjornson. She was 88 years of age. PAETSCH - Carrie was born March 17, 1918 at Jansen, SK and died on August 1st, 2004 age 86 at Lanigan, SK. She was predeceased by husband Dan, 1991, and is survived by Loreen Lemke (Ron), Gladys Lutomsky (Bob), and Ernie (Frida); also by sister Bertha and brother, Abe; plus seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Our beloved aunt, Eleanora Isabella Paetsch went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29th, 2009, at the age of 84 years. Her funeral will be on Wednesday, September 2nd, at 1:00 PM at Augustana Lutheran Church, corner of Broadway and 7th Street East, Saskatoon, SK. Interment will be held in the Jansen Cemetery, Jansen, SK at approximately 4:30 PM. She was born July 22nd, 1925, to Gustav Paetsch and Ottilie (Schroeder), the youngest of six children: Hildegard (Langner), Herbert, Arnold, Harry, Erwin (who died at 9 months of age), and grew up on the family farm just outside of Jansen, SK. After finishing school in Jansen, she enrolled in correspondence courses (without any tutors) and finished grades 9 to 12 in two years. Following senior matriculation she attended Business College in Regina and taught at a Business College in Saskatoon for several months before enrolling in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan. During the summer holidays, she did temporary stenographer work first in Vancouver and then in Calgary. With the permission of the Dean, Eleanor took a year off to teach commercial subjects at North Battleford Collegiate. This seems to have worked very well for her as she completed her three-year Bachelor of Arts degree course in two years. In 1950 she moved to Ontario where she lived in Toronto and Windsor for over thirty years. She worked for Canadian National Railways in labour relations and was a personnel manager and buyer for Gordon Mackay Ltd., a holding company for the Walker chain of stores. Eleanor retired in 1972 and went to Europe for a year. When she returned, she took up residence in Toronto where she took woodworking and fine furniture making courses. In Toronto and Windsor she bought older houses, single-handedly renovated and then resold them. From Toronto, Eleanor moved to Saskatoon to be closer to her family and to make time for travel, music, gardening, and house renovations. Until 1999 she traveled internationally and delighted in documenting these journeys. Music was an important pastime for Eleanor. During her life in Windsor, she sang with the Graham Steed Chorale and the Rackham Symphony Choir of Detroit. During her years in Saskatoon as a community volunteer she accompanied the residents on the piano in senior centres. Eleanor is survived by her nephews Edwin Langner, Gerald Langner, and Marvin Paetsch; nieces Ruby Naujok, Mona O'Sullivan, and Annabelle Paetsch; eight grand nephews and nieces and eighteen great-grand nephews and nieces. Her parents and siblings predeceased her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sherbrooke Community Centre for their conscientious and compassionate care. PALMER - Carol. It is with great sadness that we announce that Carol Palmer of Jansen, SK. passed away from cancer on August 1, 2008 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. She was born August 14, 1947 in Maple Creek, SK. She grew up on the family farm in Consul, SK. She loved horses and enjoyed barrel racing, breaking horses and riding around the country side bareback. In 1965 she married Ralph Palmer and they lived in many places including Cabri, Regina, Outlook, Leader and Moose Jaw before finally settling in Jansen in 1978 to raise their family. She was a charter member of the Jansen and District Kinette's and was an active community member. Every place they lived, they made many lifelong friends who they would do anything for and who would do anything for them. Most of her and Ralph's family are still settled in the Consul area and the family would make many trips 'home' to visit. Carol always professed her love of the "country " down there and how it always felt like home to her. Carol began driving a School Bus in Jansen in the early eighties and was still driving up until shortly before she became ill. She was a dedicated mother who coached her daughters softball team and her and Ralph traveled all over the province attending their children's sporting events and visiting them in their own homes as they grew up and moved away. She was a faithful Rider fan even watching games while in the hospital at the end. She was a fantastic Grandma and loved spending time with her four grandchildren, she went camping with them and attended their school functions and sporting events as much as possible. She also loved just hanging out with them. Prior to her illness Carol was an avid golfer and loved gardening and will be remembered in Jansen for lighting up her yard every night. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Palmer in 2000; her father, Wesley Wilcox in 1993 and her Brother in law, Bruce Palmer in 1978. She is loved by and truly missed by her MotherKay Wilcox; daughters; Christy (Shane) Failler and Chantele (Joey Frappier) Palmer, her Son Reagan (Heather Donahue) Palmer and her four grandchildren, Josh and Jesse Failler, Nolan and Riley Palmer, her brothers Merle Wilcox, Richard (Darlene) Wilcox, Lenard (Debbie) Wilcox, sister-in-laws Ellen (Ken) Wenzel, Marilyn Reynolds, Vicki Matechuk, Barb Handel and many special nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rudolph Petrich, resident of Lutheran Sunset Home in Saskatoon, on January 5, 2007, at the age of 99. Pat was born in the R.M. of Hoodoo, SK, spent his early years and received his education in Saskatoon, during which time he met his wife Hannah (Schoeder). They moved to Jansen, where they operated Petrich's Store for 58 years. Pat was a very loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his children, Frank, Lucille (Jim Doolittle), Judy (Jerry) Carter, and Clayton; grandchildren, Trent (Patti) Petrich, Tracey (Sean) Mullins and children Jordan and Mackenzie; Dayton (Mary) Doolittle and children Katherine, Andy, Tiffany, Alex, Avery, Shaylee; Drew Doolittle; Hali (Kevin) Mohninger and Austin; Toby (Amy) Carte and children Madisen and Callie; Jeff Carter; Damon Petrich; and Pat's sister, Erna Odenkirchen. Pat was predeceased by his wife, Hannah in 1983; brothers, Adolph and Arnold; sisters, Aurelia, Jenny and Elda; daughter-in-law, Ruth; and great-grandson, Aaron. Pat was involved in numerous community organizations including credit union, hospital, and school boards. Pat enjoyed reading, playing billiards, golfing, curling, fishing, gardening, woodworking, traveling, and spending time at his cottage at Marean Lake. He had a great affection for children, loved birds and building bird houses, and enjoyed socializing with all his friends and relatives. On December 15, 2005 our mother, Hilda Pichler heeded the call of her Maker and passed into eternity at the age of 98 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, son, Bill (Ileen), Johanna and Debbie; son, Douglas (Mary) Sandra, Donald (Peggy), Sarah and Rachel, Glen, Randall (Trixie) Regan, Adam and Sabrina. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Edward in 1992 and all of her siblings. Hilda was born in Poland on November 8, 1907. During World War 1 she and her family were refugees and migrated back to Germany in 1918. Hilda immigrated to Canada to the Jansen SK area in 1927. Later in Moose Jaw SK she met, fell in love and married Edward in a marriage that lasted 62 years and 3 months. Special thank you to the staff at Central Haven Care Home for their exceptional care. Wayne is survived by his wife Diane of Candle Lake; sons Scott of Regina, Jeffrey of Saskatoon and daughter Carrie of Winnipeg, MB; niece Tracy (Lloyd) Bourke and nephew Bryce (Laura) Dalke. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Hilton (Tex) Robson, Violet Tendeck and sister Elizabeth Dalke. Wayne was born and grew up in the Jansen district of Saskatchewan. He started his career in the truck equipment business in Saskatoon and moved to Regina in 1978 living there until he and Diane retired to Candle Lake in the fall of 2004.Wayne's joys in life surrounded his family, the lake, building and fixing, music, and gatherings with family and friends. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the Zion Lutheran Church at Jansen, SK. RODE - Bertha (nee Schinkel) Rode April 13, 1915 to April 15, 2013. Bertha was born on a farm south of Jansen, Sask. to August & Elizabeth Schinkel. She was one of ten children. She attended school at Auderville School until the age of 14. Due to her mother�s health issues, she was required to quit school, which she loved, and stay home to help the family. At the age of 18, she went to work for the Harrison family in the Dafoe, Sask. area who operated a large mixed farm. On January 16, 1935, she married the love of her life, Albert Waldemar Rode. They lived in the Leroy and Jansen area until 1949 when they moved to a farm just south of Lanigan. She dedicated her life to helping Albert in running the farm and raising their family of nine children. Shortly before moving from the farm to Lanigan , in December of 1965, she became the official seamstress for Strueby�s Men�s Wear in Lanigan. This was a job she held until the store closed close to thirty years later. She also became the unofficial queen of alterations for the entire Lanigan area. She officially retired from sewing on March 29, 2013 and the last item she completed was a quilt � no surprise. As well as being a seamstress, she also worked on the janitorial staff at the Potash mine and worked with Albert as caretakers of the Lanigan High School, apartment complexes across from their home, and Trinity Lutheran Church. In February 2004, with Albert�s failing health and Bertha�s physical disability, she joined Albert as a permanent resident of Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan. Her days were spent caring for Albert, as she had always done, and they were able to celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary in January 2006 prior to Albert�s passing in March 2006. She remained active and in reasonably good health until the Summer of 2012 when she suffered some challenging health issues. As was her nature, she met each day with a smile and soldiered on until her peaceful passing on April 15, 2013, two days after celebrating her 98th birthday. Bertha is survived by her children: Norma Winter, Ernest (Gail) Rode, Marlene (Albert) Roth, VernaJean (William) Samborski, Marian (Cameron) Hall, Larry (Claudette) Rode, Glenna (Robert) Brown, and son-in-law Paul (Sarah) Gniewotta. And her grandchildren: Roxanne Schinkel, Linda (Richard) Peterson, Julie (Garnet) Galenzoski, Holly Siegel, Randall (Sandi) Gniewotta, Patricia (Neil) Paetsch, Lauri (Kevin) Young, Sanford (Lorraine) Greve, Curtis Greve, Kimberly (Dawn) Rode, Karean Haaland, Richard Roth, Joanne (Ronald) Walokoff, Jared Samborski, Arlen (D�Arcy) Hall, Leanne (Mark) Schenn, John (Evguenia) Rode, Krista Brown, Kyle Brown. Andrew, DFC, passed away in Edmonton, Alberta on September 3, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Andy was born on April 12, 1918, near Jansen, SK, the third child and first son of Ben and Lillian Russell. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn in 1992; father in 1979; mother in 1986; sister, Elizabeth Wristen in 1976; brother, David in 1997; sister, Muriel Carlyle in 2002; and beloved sister, Bertha Gray in 2007. Andy is survived by his five children: Rodney (Shelagh); Margaret (David Borgstrom); Lyle (Janet); Louise Jensen (Soren); and Lachlan (Jan); 18 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his siblings: Joyce, Arthur, Gilbert, George, and Louise. Andy taught for several years before enlisting at Jansen. He flew for the RAF with Squadron 31 over Burma. He was a graduate of the Univ. of Sask. He joined Canada Agriculture in 1949. He worked in Indian Head, Fort Simpson, Scott and retired in Morden. As an Agrologist his work involved horticulture and potato breeding. In 1983 he and Lyn moved back to Indian Head, where they lived until 1991, then they came to St. Albert. He was an active member of the St. Albert Seniors Society, especially the Bridge Club. He lunched regularly at the Legion and marched in the November 11 Parades. Many will remember him for his generous support of local initiatives, for his fine woodworking abilities, and for growing the most beautiful roses. A Funeral Service was held at St. Albert Funeral Home, on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Interment was at St. Albert City Cemetery. SCHIMAN - Alma (nee Brehm) Schiman was born on the family farm, northeast of Jansen, in 1923. More than 88 years later, she slipped quietly away from us in Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, not more than 20 miles from where she was born. Between the beginning and the ending of her time on earth, she lived a life that was full of joy, sadness, hard work, laughter and much, much love. Alma was the second-youngest of five children born to Emelia and Ludwig Brehm. Like many other families at the time, the Brehms made do with very little. Alma later told stories of how she and her younger brother Emil made toys out of almost nothing... a few sticks or old shoes and lots of imagination. Perhaps partly because of this, Alma's desire for material things was always modest and throughout her life, she always put the needs of others, especially her family, ahead of her own. Alma was educated at the Prairie Rose Country School, one of many one-room schoolhouses of the day. She loved school but had to leave after Grade 8, in order to care full-time for her ailing mother and run the family household. This eventually began to take a toll on Alma's own health and so she left home to work at a caf�, the KD Tearoom, in Regina for several years, her only taste of "big-city" living. In 1947, she came back to marry her childhood sweetheart, Alfred Schiman. The Brehm and Schiman families had been acquainted for many years and during their marriage, Alfred often teased her about having first fallen for her in the chicken coop while playing a game of hide-and-seek as children. Alma and Alfred were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Jansen and settled on the Schiman farm in the Esk District. Alma ran the household, helped with farm chores and in 1948, her childhood dream to become a mother was fulfilled when their first son Ernie was born. Two other children followed - Elaine in 1959 and David in 1961. Alma loved being a mother and this was the main focus of much of her life, but she was also very involved in many church and community activities, especially after the family moved into Jansen in 1956. This included teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, singing in the church choir and coordinating renovations to the Jansen community hall. Alma was an avid reader of books, magazines and newspapers and a dedicated fan of CBC Radio. She was opinionated and unafraid to take a stand alone in the many lively discussions at family gatherings. As her children grew older, she looked for new ways to serve others, and in the 1970s, she became a volunteer caregiver for a neighbour's disabled child. Haley Adam was a regular visitor in the Schiman home for years and her mother Carey Adam became one of Alma's dear friends. Alma found a new passion when her grandchildren began to arrive. She spent many weeks each year in Roblin, Moose Jaw and Whitehorse, enjoying and helping to care for her eight grandchildren. She was a big part of all her grandchildren's lives and helped shape the people they are today. Together with Alfred, Alma travelled extensively throughout North America to visit relatives and places of interest, until she was seriously injured in a highway accident in 1991. She made a remarkable recovery but after that made the decision to travel only to see her children and grandchildren. She was a strong and active woman right into her early 80s, when cancer necessitated several surgeries in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Then, after a fall in 2010, Alma went to live at Central Parkland Lodge, where she was able to rest more and be cared for. The transition was not an easy one for someone as independent and feisty as Alma but over time, she adjusted and developed strong relationships and appreciation for the staff who cared for her during her last two years. Alma was pre-deceased by her parents, sisters Bertha and Minnie and brother Julius. She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her always and carry her memory closely in their hearts: husband Alfred Schiman of Lanigan, son Ernie and wife Donna of Roblin, granddaughter Tara, husband Kevin and their son Kyler of Calgary, grandson Corey of Calgary, daughter Elaine and husband Greg, grandsons Ryan, Bram and Sean of Whitehorse, son David and wife Janice of Martensville, granddaughters Nicole of Calgary, Rebecca and Kimberly of Martensville, brother Emil Brehm of Saskatoon, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins. At Alma's request, her family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. SCHINKEL - Leonard Arthutr. It is with fond memories and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Arthur Schinkel. Leonard passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday June 2, 2013. Leonard was born in Jansen, Sask. on August 30, 1944. He is predeceased by his father Edward and mother Linda. He is survived by his wife Shelley Holfeld , daughter Brittnee Holfeld and sons Brandon Holfeld and Jim Schinkel (Jennifer) and grandsons Nicholas and Holden. As well as his sister Loreen Burger (Edward), brother Vern (BetteAnne), mother-in-law Elaine and father-in-law John Holfeld. Brothers-in-law Darwin (Sandy), Darcy (Debbie), Duane (Shelly) and several nieces and nephews. Len survived many hardships including a heart bypass, liver and kidney failure as well as cancer of the lung and throat. Len worked at Lord and Burnham in St Catharines, Ont. for 25 years and then retired and moved to Regina. He was an avid bowler and fisherman and loved his Toronto Blue Jays. He was a stay at home dad and enjoyed looking after his children. We would like to thank the many nurses and doctors in the Renal unit at the Regina General Hospital who helped us through the past seven years as well as the Palliative Care Services Team. A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Victoria Club, 1300 Victoria Ave., Regina, Sask. A private family interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park. SCHROEDER - Eric Rudolph. The death of Mr. Eric Rudolph Schroeder, of the Lutheran Sunset Home, Saskatoon, (and formerly of LeRoy), occurred at his residence on Monday, January 29, 2007. He was 90 years of age. Eric was born on June 11, 1916, to Oscar and Bertha (nee Hirsch) Schroeder at home on their farm in the Jansen district. He was raised there and attended Jansen School. Following his education, Eric helped on the family farm and also worked for farmers in the Jansen district. On October 23, 1941, he married Mary Hamilton in Saskatoon. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son. Eric joined the Canadian Armed Forces and, from 1942 to 1945, he served his country in England and Holland. Initially, Eric and Mary made their home on her brother Albert's farm in the LeRoy district. After Eric returned home from serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, they resided in LeRoy for two years, then moved to an acreage they purchased on the outskirts of LeRoy from where they operated their mixed farm. Eric lost his soul-mate and wife of 63 years, Mary, on March 13, 2005. He continued to live in their home until February 2006 when, due to failing health, he moved to Saskatoon and, eventually, to Lutheran Sunset Home, his residence until the present. Eric had always had a zest for life and, even in his senior years, remained quite active. He was involved in his community in a number of ways, particularly through sports, and was a strong supporter of the LeRoy Braves, serving as timekeeper for many years. Eric loved ball and still played enthusiastically on the family's ball team at the ripe age of 80. One of his greatest passions was nature and the outdoors, and he loved planting trees, watching the birds in the yard, and hunting. He was especially known for his warm smile, friendly personality, and his genuine volunteering spirit which reached out to anyone who needed help. Eric will be lovingly remembered by his two children and their families: Betty Lu Luchsinger of Saskatoon, Rocky (Sandra) Luchsinger and children Shelby and Luke, Robyn (Dale) Wildey and children Sharla, Sammy, Candice and her son Brody, and Curtis, and Renee (Allan) Wagner and children Eric and Scotty; Bill (Janice) Schroeder of Indian Head, Dawn Holmberg, Lindsay Schroeder and her son Isaac, and Jenna Schroeder; three sisters: Ella Warner and Meta Machdanz, both of Saskatoon, and Hedy Kihn of Jansen; three sisters-in-law: Theresa Schroeder of Wynyard, Freda Schroeder of Lanigan, and Myrna Schroeder of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The death of Mrs. Freda Schroeder of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, (and formerly of Jansen), occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the age of 95 years. Many will remember her as a dedicated school teacher in the LeRoy/Jansen district for several years. Interment will follow at Jansen Cemetery, next to Freda's beloved husband, Herbert Schroeder. SCHROEDER - Mary Catherine (nee Hamilton). It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Catherine Schroeder of LeRoy announces her death at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Sunday, March 13, 2005. She was 87 years of age. Mary was born on September 13, 1917, to Andrew and Mettie (nee Ellis) Hamilton at home on their farm northeast of Jansen. She attended Illinois School until completing Grade 10, then attained her Grade 11 and 12 education at Sproule, a country high school in the Jansen district. For the next four years, Mary continued her education at Macomb, Illinois University, where she obtained a BSc (HEc) in Education. On October 23, 1941, after returning home, she married Eric Schroeder in Saskatoon. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son. Initially, Mary and Eric made their home on her brother Albert's farm in the LeRoy district. After Eric returned home from serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, they resided in LeRoy for two years, then moved to an acreage they purchased on the outskirts of LeRoy. Mary began teaching sewing lessons to adults on a part-time basis. Later, she was employed full-time by the University of Saskatchewan Extension Department teaching mainly vocational homemaking classes and sewing classes on First Nation Reserves. After a car accident in 1969, and a few years at home, Mary enthusiastically got back into the workforce on a free-lance basis, instructing various home economic and cooking classes for Carlton Trail Community College. As well, she demonstrated microwave cooking in grocery stores and at fairs and exhibitions. Her greatest fulfillment was derived from her involvement with Co-ops, as a member of the LeRoy Co-op Women's Guild, director of both the local Co-op and of the Provincial Guild, delegate to the F.C.L., and a member of the Resolutions Committee. In her spare time, she did a lot of sewing and was the LeRoy correspondent for various local newspapers. To know Mary, was to love her. There was an aura about her that exuded her loving and friendly spirit. Her bubbly personality, sparkling eyes, and warm smile touched everyone who met her. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Others stay awhile, and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. The death of Reinhold Schroeder of Lanigan, Sask., formerly of Jansen, Sask., occurred suddenly at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask., on December 23rd, 2010, at the age of 84 years. SMITH - Elgin (Smitty). It is with sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Elgin Smith at Saskatoon City Hospital on Monday, November 7, 2005, at the age of 67. Les was born in Jansen, SK. on February 27, 1933 and resided there until 1953 when the family moved to Bankend, SK where he met Jennie. They farmed there until 1964 when they moved to Saskatoon. Through his life, Les was a farmer, gardener, home builder (Little Borland), Millwright (Labatt's Canada) and most recently in maintenance/mechanic (Saskatoon Regional Psychiatric Centre). Dad was born and raised in Jansen, SK where he made his life of farming, custom swathing, barbering and driving school bus. He was a man willing and able to help anyone with anything. If something needed fixing, Dad was there to do it. Dad enjoyed hunting and fishing and particularly enjoyed his time surrounded by his family. He took particular pride in watching each of his eight grandchildren grow into prospering adults. After moving to the city, he made his home at the Illarion Residence on Louise Street for 19 years. During this time, he continued to cut hair for the residents. He enjoyed the evening card games and made many treasured friendships. Dad had been lucky enough to be taken care of by the caregivers of the Langham Senior's Home for the last three years. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., April 16th, 2004 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (8th Street & Broadway Ave). TORWALT - Beatrice (nee Johnson). After a very short but courageous battle with cancer the family is very saddened to announce that Mrs. Beatrice Torwalt, 80 years of Humboldt passed away at Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Beatrice was born on November 20, 1929 in Monitor, AB to Henry and Hannah (nee Stenborg) Johnson. Due to the fact that her father was a minister in the Lutheran church they resided in a few communities such as, Monitor, AB, Assiniboia, SK, Kyle, SK and then LeRoy, SK so Beatrice obtained her education in many communities. She spent one year at the SCBI (LCBI) in Outlook. It was while in LeRoy that she met the love of her life William Torwalt and they were married in Calgary, AB on October 18, 1952. Together they raised a family of three children on their farm south west of LeRoy. Beatrice was kept very busy with her career as domestic engineer raising her children and instilling in them the morals and values of a good life directed by her faith. In 1967 William and Beatrice moved into LeRoy and William continued to farm. This brought new adventures for Beatrice as she became very involved in the community. She ventured out into the workforce and became the first Parkland Regional Librarian in LeRoy. She then took employment at the LeRoy Post Office, where she enjoyed working for many years. Always giving of herself she was very active on many local boards such as, Humboldt Housing Board, School Board and Church Board. Beatrice served as the church organist for over 50 years. Family always came first in Beatrice's life, a very supportive mother and grand mother she would always be there cheering them on. Her passion was her flower garden. She loved flowers of any kind and was able to grow the most beautiful roses. Beatrice was an accomplished seamstress and loved to do crafts in her spare time. In 1995 William passed away and Beatrice continued to live in LeRoy until 2001 when she moved to Humboldt and became very active at St. John's Lutheran Church playing the organ or helping with ELW. Beatrice's kind and gentle manner will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three children and nine grandchildren: Norine (Dan Downey) Torwalt-Downey of Gull Lake and family, Kyle Downey (Alicia Poole) of Unity, Laura Downey of Regina and Emily Downey of Gull Lake; Dan (Cheryl) Torwalt of Humboldt and family, Danielle Torwalt (fiance Eric Bellamy) of Yorkton, Greg Torwalt (Kristen Boyer) and Brad Torwalt all of Humboldt; and Doug (Melita) Hanson-Torwalt of Stony Plain, AB and family, Joshua Hanson-Torwalt, Jessica Hanson-Torwalt and Mark Hanson-Torwalt; two sisters and one brother: C. Interment will follow at LeRoy Public Cemetery, LeRoy. TORWALT - Lydia (nee Rode) February 29, 1920 - May 12, 2105. It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mrs. Lydia (nee Rode) Torwalt, 95 years of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at her residence. Lydia was born on February 29, 1920 to John and Alexandra (nee Daelick) Rode in the Jansen District. She obtained her grade eight education at the Auderville School. After completing her education she moved to St. Catherine�s, ON for a short period to be with her brothers. There she worked as a domestic, and the high standard she learned she carried with her for the rest of her life. Returning to her roots, she moved back to Jansen and began working at the Jansen General Store. On October 30, 1945 she married Herman Torwalt. Together they began their farming career. They ran a mixed farm. Lydia�s role focused on the domestic duties of the home and the raising of the children. Lydia instilled high values and morals in her children by her example of hard work and living a good life. She loved her flower gardens and spent hours manicuring them to perfection. She enjoyed the birds from her window, and while she worked in the garden. Her family recalls her wonderful mouth watering dishes, especially her chicken dinners on Sundays. Lydia was active at the Zion Lutheran Church and helped out with 4H. Lydia and Herman loved to square dance and travelled around the province to do so. This allowed them to enjoy wonderful times with friends. Lydia was a woman of quiet poise who loved to share time with her family, especially a good card game. She ran a loving and caring home without complicating matters. In 1971 Lydia and Herman moved to Lanigan and semi-retired. They enjoyed their winters in Arizona, but also enjoyed many hours of fishing during our beautiful Saskatchewan summers. In 2012 due to failing health Lydia moved to LeRoy then Lanigan where she resided until her peaceful passing. TORWALT - Ruth (nee Block). September 16, 1929 - February 4, 2010. Ruth Torwalt (formerly of Jansen) passed away peacefully, with her devoted family beside her, at her last resting place, St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt. She was 80 years of age. Ruth will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 59 years, Werner Torwalt of Humboldt; their daughter and her family, Ellen (Russell) Kachur of Lanigan and children Karlie Kachur (fiance Blair Bergen) of Saskatoon, and Klay Kachur (special friend Brenna Ettles) of Powell River, BC; one sister, Dorothy Kaye of Calgary, AB; two brothers: Dr. Erwin (Marge) Block of Grande Prairie, AB; and William (Eileen) Block of Jansen; sisters-in-law: Joan Block of Saskatoon; Lydia Torwalt of Lanigan; and Margaret Braitenbach of Saskatoon; and by many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Interment will take place at Jansen Cemetery at a later date. VOTH - Nellie (nee Goertzen) died April 20, 2009. She was born November 25, 1927 in Jansen, Sk. to Frank and Nella Goertzen. At 14, Nellie�s mother died and Nellie became the caregiver for 4 siblings until her father remarried in 1946. Nellie grew into a wonderfully caring, supportive woman. She loved music. John Voth first spotted his sweetheart while she was playing piano for junior choir at Virgil (Ont.) MB Church. John and Nellie were married Oct. 27, 1951. They lived on a farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., until moving to Tabor Manor in St. Catharines in 2003. Their life was built around their family, Christian faith, and church, where they served as a deacon couple and in many other capacities. A wealth of friends enriched their lives. Nellie enjoyed good health and was rarely separated from John. She had her first fall in 2007 and eventually moved into long-term care, where John visited her daily. She was a member of Orchard Park Bible Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. Nellie is mourned by John; children Robert (Elvera), Sharon (Barry), Barbara (John), Judith (Frank); 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. WACKER - Emil (August 14, 1931 - July 21, 2013). The death of Mr. Emil Rudolf Wacker of Jansen, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Sunday, July 21, 2013. He was 81 years of age. WAIWOOD - Magdalena Pauline (nee Elke) Waiwood of Ernest Street, St. Andrews, NB. Madeleine passed away peacefully on March 13, 2001 at the Charlotte County Hospital. St. Stephen, NB. Born November 20, 1920 in Jansen, Saskatchewan. Daughter of the Late Gustav and Amanda Elke. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Alexander Waiwood, daughter, Marlene and son-in-law, Mark Boctor of Saskatoon, son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Brenda Waiwood of St. Andrews, NB, grandchildren, Alexandra, Andrea and Audrey Boctor, brothers, Albert Elke of Lethbridge, Alberta and Robert Elke of Leroy, Saskatchewan, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Walter, William, Theodore and Irvin and sisters, Martha, Olga, Hilda and Adella. Madeleine will be fondly remembered for her love of teaching and her dedication to her community. (June 9, 1917 - July 25, 2007). The passing of Ella Warner occurred on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the Circle Drive Special Care Home, at the age of 90 years. Ella was born on June 9, 1917 at Jansen, SK. Ella married Herbert Warner on June 7, 1941 and moved to Saskatoon where they resided until her passing. Ella is survived by her daughter, Mavis (Nick) Fedorchuk and their children, Chris (Jaime), Steven (Angela); son, Harvey (Edith) and their children, Sheri and Michelle; and son, Don (Wilma) and their children, Arletta (Kevin), Terry (Stacey); and six greatgrandchildren; sisters, Meta Machdanz and Hedwick Kihn. She was predeceased by her parents, Oskar and Bertha Schroeder; husband, Herbert W. Warner; as well as five brothers and one sister.
