ACKERMAN - Daniel "Dan" age 74 years, late of Regina, SK and Holdfast, SK, passed away at the Regina General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, April 20, 2005. Dan leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Josephine; children, Sharon (Dave) Holliday, Jim (Brenda) Ackerman, Sandra (Michael) Harazny, Barry (Chris) Ackerman, Beverly (Keith) Hiller, Daniel (Brenda) Ackerman; grandchildren, Sharlene Holliday (Kevin Tonita), Sheryl and Michael Holliday, Leah Holliday (Fiance, Todd Gatto), Dean, Brett, and Riley Ackerman, Mark and Kendal Harazny, Natasha and Dylan Ackerman, Jordan, Brendon and Kelsey Hiller, Matthew, Janna and Andrew Ackerman; great grandchildren, Kayden and Haley Tonita, Avery Hargrove and London Gatto; sisters, Anne Loveday, Dorothy (Steve) Eberts and numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Margaret Ackerman; 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Dan and Josephine farmed at Holdfast on the family homestead. Our family was always his source of pride, even as we challenged and were challenged by each other. His tears marked each special event of our lives and we accept them now as a cherished memory and a blessing. ACKERMAN - Mary Katherine (nee Kohler) passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2004 at the age of 92 years. Formerly of Chamberlain, SK, but recently residing in Regina and Mill Bay, BC, Mary is predeceased by her husband Philip Ackerman in 1993, grandson Philip Polard, brother Peter Kohler; sisters: Agnes Huber, Susan Ackerman, Matilda (Tillie) Ackerman. Mary was born and raised in the Holdfast area until she married, and lived, farmed and raised her family in the Chamberlain area until retiring in 1977 in Regina. Visitation for all will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Funeral Service Mass will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Samaritan Parish Centre, 425 Broad Street North, Regina. ALLEN - Elsie Emma (nee Maerz). On August 25, 2006, Elsie Emma Allen, late of Benson passed away at the Regina General Hospital, at the age of 80 years. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, William and Helene Maerz; sisters: Christine (Mike) Engh, Frieda (Peter) Steinhauer, Emily Maerz, and Edna Neurauter; brother John Maerz, and one brother and sister in infancy. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 58 years, Dean Allen and their daughter, Joan (Rudy) Hanelt of Benson and one brother, Wilfred (Barbara) Maerz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elsie (nee Maerz) was born October 10, 1925, on the farm near Holdfast. She grew up in a family of six siblings: Christine, Frieda, Emily, Edna, Wilfred and John; brother John died in 1939. She worked along-side her sisters on the farm when she was old enough. Elsie graduated from grade 12 in Holdfast and from Normal School in Moose Jaw, teaching in the Olmstead School District from 1945 - 1948. On July 7, 1948 Elsie married Dean Allen in Midale. After marriage, she became a homemaker and worked beside her husband in the farming operation in the Viewfield District for 58 years. Elsie loved music and played the piano 'by ear', was an avid reader, and loved playing cards and visiting with everyone she came in contact with. She enjoyed travelling, making regular trips to BC to visit her sister, along with two special vacations, in 1988 on a Yukon/Alaska tour and in 1993 to the Maritimes. She was a member of the Viewfield United Church Ladies Aid, until they disbanded. She was always ready to lend a helping hand for social functions within the area such as: Christmas parties, baking for Auction Sales, Funeral lunches, Bridal Showers, and welcoming families into the area. She celebrated many special events in her life such as the birth of her daughter in 1950, their 25th Anniversary with an open house at the farm, her 65th Birthday tea held at her daughter's home, their 50th Wedding Anniversary with coffee and cake at the farm house with friends and neighbours, and her 80th Birthday supper in Stoughton with family and friends. Elsie will be greatly missed by her family and close friends. She had a good life but worked very hard for everything she had. God knew that she would rest easier with Him than having to continue the struggle here on earth. Funeral Services were held Thursday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace United Church, Stoughton with Rev. Brian Ast Officiating and a tribute to Elsie was given by Marvin Shauf. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Active Pallbearers: Martin, Doug and Marven Engh, Trevor and Wesley Maerz, and Marvin Shauf. All those in attendance were considered to be Honorary Pallbearers. BARBER - Thelma (nee Everett) May 30, 1918 - May 6, 2014. Thelma passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd in 1996; parents, Lucy and Charles Everett; brother Charles; sister-in-law Ethel; and sisters, Dorothy Everett and Evelyn Rowe. Thelma is survived by her daughter Ilona (Ed) Nant of Moose Jaw; son Dr. Duane Barber (JoAnne Rea) of Calgary; four grandchildren, Shannon (Mel) Drake of Moose Jaw, Shawn (Jennifer) Nant of Moose Jaw, Jennifer (Mark) Brayford of Saskatoon and Erin Barber (Riley Day) of Saskatoon; great-granddaughters, Amanda Drake of Moose Jaw, Brooklynn Nant of Moose Jaw and Halle and Hayden Brayford of Saskatoon; great-grandsons, Austin Drake of Moose Jaw, Kolby Nant of Moose Jaw, Hawkins Brayford of Saskatoon and Sullivan Day of Saskatoon; and her nieces and nephews. Thelma was born and raised on a farm in the Holdfast area. She moved to Regina in 1938 where she was employed with Simpsons. Thelma was a member of the Eastern Star for several years. She married Floyd in 1942. Her greatest joy was her family. She was most proud of their accomplishments. Thelma loved to spend her summers at the beach with her family at Echo Lake in the Qu�Appelle Valley and her winters in Florida. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the medical and nursing staff at the Pasqua Hospital for their excellent care during her hospitalization. At Thelma's request, a private funeral service will be held for the family. BENSON - Robert George. In loving memory, we mourn the death and celebrate the life of Robert George Benson who passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Sunset Nursing Home in Regina, SK. Bob was born to Martin and Irene Benson at Fosston, SK. He resided and worked in the Holdfast, SK area for about 48 years. Bob will be sadly missed by his sister, Dorothy of London, ON and brother-in-law Gordon Smith of Kenora, ON, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Irene Benson; sisters, Violet Larson and Florence Smith; brother, Louis Benson and brother-in-law, Jesse Larson. A Memorial Service will take place at the Fosston Evangelical Free Church at Fosston, SK on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. William Dyck officiating. BITZ - Angelina (nee Ell) passed away at Parkside Extendicare on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1965; infant son, Charles in 1944; brother and sister-in-law, Henry (1965) and Mary (1959) Ell; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine (1997) and Peter (1980) Bitz; and sister-in-law, Margaret Ell in 2001. Angelina is survived by her brother, John Ell; two sisters, Mary Dunford and Amelia Roche; four daughters, Monica Anklewich of Delta, BC; Sister Marie Bitz of Saint John, NB, Angela (Bill) Schluchter of Regina and Gwen (Ken) Schmidt of Vancouver, BC; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Angelina was born in Sedley, SK in 1910 and moved to the Holdfast district in 1912 with her parents and two siblings. In 1935, Angelina married Frank Bitz and they farmed in the Holdfast district until 1958 when they moved into Regina. Angelina has resided at Parkside Extendicare since 1999. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue with Sister Mel Hruska presiding. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all the staff at Parkside Extendicare for the care given to Angelina for the past eight years. BITZ - Ila Jane (nee Duke). On Thursday, January 1st, 2004 Ila Jane, late of Regina Pioneer Village, and formerly of Holdfast, SK passed away at the age of 88. Ila was born in the Dummer district to Llewelyn and Bertha Duke on December 19th, 1915. Predeceased by her husband, Clem Bitz (1996); her parents; her brothers: Adam (age 4), John, Thomas (in infancy), Ted and Ralph; and her sister, Garna Schulz; Ila is survived by her children: Dayle (Carol) Davison, Kelowna, B.C., Shirley Pattyson (Wendle Stange), Vernon, B.C., Don Davison (Mary Aspen), Regina, SK, Sharon (George) Gieni, Moose Jaw, SK, Glenda Church, Regina, SK, Gary Davison, Regina, SK, Wayne (Laura) Bitz, Calgary, AB and Kelly (Derick) Williamson, Regina, SK; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Audrey Schuett and brother, Welly Duke of Truax, SK and their families; numerous nieces and nephews; inlaws and many friends. The eldest of nine children Ila grew up on the family farm and attended Maple Slope School; and also taught Sunday School there. In 1933 she married Glen Davison of Dahinda, SK and lived in Worchester and Rouleau, SK where they raised 6 children. Ila and her family then moved to Regina where she owned Ila's Beauty Salon. In 1963 she moved to Holdfast, SK and in 1968 married Clem Bitz and raised 2 more children. She continued to hair dress and was involved in the Catholic Church, the C.W.L. and the Legion Auxiliary. In 1995 due to ill health they moved to Regina and in 1996 Ila moved into Pioneer Lodge where she resided until her passing. Interment to follow in the Holdfast Cemetery, Holdfast, SK. BOEHM - Magdalena Helen (nee Zentner) passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Pasqua Hospital following a brief illness. Magdalena Zentner was born in Findlater, SK on December 15, 1919. She married Frank Boehm in 1939. They briefly lived in the Dilke district, and then moved to the Holdfast district where they farmed until retirement. Following her husband Frank's passing in 1998, she moved into Lumsden Park Manor. Magdalena was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Pauline; sister Sadie; daughter Pauline Daly and granddaughter Michaeleen Boehm. Left to cherish her memory are her children Joseph (Rina), Mike (Carol), Maryanne, Rudy (Donna) and Danny (Lorraine) and son-inlaw Terry Daly. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Rose and Josephine (Harold) Schultz; brothers Mike, Andy (Margaret) and Lawrence; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. BOYD - Evlynn Lillian (nee Zenzeluk) April 19, 1937 � May 9, 2015. It is with sadness the family announces Evlynn's passing. Evlynn was born on the family farm in Holdfast, SK. She was predeceased by her parents Mike and Elizabeth Zenzeluk; sisters Jean (Peter) Metz, Ann (Lloyd) Moffatt, Kay (Joe) Kasper; brother John (Helen) Zenzeluk; sister-in-law Helen Zenzeluk; brothers-in-law Harold Schaible, Vic Mahood and daughter-in-law Cindy Boyd. Evlynn is survived by her children Barry Boyd (Diana Zhang), Georgia (Stewart Boswell) Boyd, Bryan Boyd; grandchildren Michelle (Mark) Gray, Kirby, Kelsey and Michael Boyd; great-grandchild Mikah Rich; sisters Mary Schaible of Abbotsford and Tina Mahood of Vancouver; brother Steve Zenzeluk as well as numerous relatives and cherished friends. BRADSHAW - Mary Louise (nee Schmitt) born October 5, 1913 in Newton, Illinois, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on June 30, 2007. Predeceased by her parents, Dr. Henry Schmitt and his wife, Mary (nee Spetch), her husband, Floyd Bradshaw, her brothers, Joe and Bill Schmitt, her sister, Helen Penner, and her grand-daughter, Lisa Bradshaw. She is survived by her sons Blaine (Janet) Bradshaw, Fred (Terry) Bradshaw, and daughter, Jean (Neil) MacLean, grandchildren Scott Bradshaw, Laureen (Chris) Kent, Morgan and Gina Bradshaw, Heather (Richard) Scholz, and Jaqueline MacLean (Gary Gareau). Greatgrandchildren are Piper and Odin Kent, Mark, Andrew and Paul Scholz, and McKenna and Achala Gareau. She is also survived by her brother, Henry (Bertha) Schmitt, sisters-inlaw, Helen Schmitt, Penny Schmitt, Mrytle Stewart, Marguerite Samuels, Eileen Hrycena and many nieces and nephews. Mary immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of eight months to Holdfast, Saskatchewan, where her father was a pioneer doctor. Following graduation, Mary attended Normal School in Regina, and the following year completed her A.T.C.M., a degree in piano. She then taught school at Torch River, Schmidtsburg and Arborfield, where she met and married Floyd Bradshaw. She soon began teaching piano, a career that spanned sixty-eight years. Mary was the organist/pianist for the United Church in Arborfield, until she moved with her husband and family to Carrot River in 1960. Her church family meant so much to her, and she continued to play in the Carrot River United Church until the time of her death. Mary also played for hundreds of weddings, funerals, memorial services and numerous special events. For over fifty years she faithfully attended music festivals at Nipawin and Tisdale. Everyone knew that when it was festival time Mary was unavailable! One of her joys in life was being with children, doing crafts, playing games, teaching them music, reading and just visiting with them. She was so proud of her grand-children, greatgrandchildren, nephews and nieces. Among other things, she enjoyed played Scrabble and cards, gardening and being involved in community life. She and Floyd travelled extensively until his death in 1981. Mary was always anxious to learn new things. During the last week of her life, Mary delivered" Meals on Wheels" twice and played for a memorial service. She will be missed by her family, many friends and community. A Memorial service will be held at Carrot River United Church on Wednesday, July 4, at 2:00 P.M. Mary's dear friend, Rev. Karen Mitchell, will be conducting the service. BURKART - Albert Vincent Gabriel of Regina passed away April 18, 2009 at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by his loving wife, Loretta; parents, Michael and Rosa; sisters, Mary and Regina; brothers, Gabriel, Nicholas and Joseph, Albert is survived by two sons: Art (Jan) and children Sara and Emily and Tony (Deborah Gray-Owen) and children Krystal and David; sisters, Helen Kelly, Catherine O'Hara and Dorothy Amundrud; brothers, Rudy and Danny. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given by the nurses and staff at the Pasqua Hospital. BURKART - Gabriel Michael. In sadness we announce the death of Gabriel Michael Burkart on December 4, 2008. He is survived by sisters Helen Kelly, Catherine O'Hara, and Dorothy Amundrud, sisters-in-law Ennis and Lillian, brothers Rudy, Albert and Danny and brother-in-law Jack O'Hara. He was predeceased by parents Michael and Rosa, sisters Mary Kosmonek, Regina Wildfong, and sister-in-law Loretta Burkart, brothers Nicolas, and Joseph, brothers-in-law Greg Kelly, Bert Kosmonek, Ellwyn Amundrud, Bert Wildfong, and niece Patricia Kelly. Gabe is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. Gabe was born July 8, 1918 on the family farm in Holdfast, Saskatchewan. Farming was his life. He served his country with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during WWII. He returned to farming in spite of a handicap sustained during service overseas. As a bachelor he cared for his mother in her years as a widow. He will also be missed by his friends on coffee row in Holdfast. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial and Sunset Extendicare in Regina for their care and compassion in the last year of his life. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date. BURKART - Josephine (nee Bank) of Holdfast, Sask. passed away on July 2, 2015 at the Lumsden District and Heritage Home in Lumsden, Saskatchewan after a valiant journey with multiple health challenges. Josephine was predeceased by her husband Gabriel Burkhart, father Walter Bank, mother Francis Bank, stepmother Rosa (Bank) Langelier, brothers Stanley Bank and Joe Bank, sister Florence Bank, and daughter-in-law Marlene Burkhart (nee Roberston). As a loving mother, grandmother and friend she will be sorely missed by her son Bryan Burkhart of Holdfast; daughters Lorraine (Lloyd) Chypiska of Regina, Loretta Bast of Regina, Sharon (Lloyd) Spencer of Saskatoon, and Shelly (Marvin) Smith of Calgary; six grandchildren and six great- grandchildren Cory (Rena) Bast of Toronto, Kyla (Brad) Herauf (Levi and Jesse) of Regina, Michael Spencer (Ethan and Jose) of Regina, Kyle (Shaylee) Spencer of Warman, Stacey (Jason) Burkhart (Bennett) of Regina and Amy (Joey) Deck (Presley) of Regina. Josephine was born and raised in Glenavon, and after her marriage to Gabriel they resided in Holdfast. She was the assistant librarian at the Holdfast Palliser Regional Library and retired from this position after twenty years of service. Josephine's richest treasure was her time spent with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren; their spontaneity, zest for life, laughter and love were her cherished gifts. A Celebration of Josephine's Life will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 2026 Winnipeg Street, Regina, SK on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Vitalis Azike officiating. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Regina. BURKART - Nicholas Bernard. It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Nicholas on January 18, 2007. Nicholas was born at Holdfast, SK on September 9, 1924. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters and one brother. Nicholas is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ennis; children Randy (Arlene), Mary (Kim), Rick (Meaghann), Garry (Connie), Donna (Mike), Laurel (Merrill) and Michael (Dail); nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters; four brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. CALDWELL - Edgar Vernon of Moose Jaw, formerly of Holdfast, passed away peacefully April 29, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born July 10, 1922 in Moose Jaw. Vern loved the land and all aspects of farming. His love of farming came from an early age growing up on the farm, as his grandparents had come to Saskatchewan in 1903 and began the legacy of the Caldwell farming operations. As a testament to the pioneers a road has been named after the family, Caldwell Road. Keeping with tradition, Vern's son Morley continues to carry on the family farm. Vern helped with the farm, for it was his passion until 2005. He was a World War II Veteran working as a Dispatch Rider and overseas he fought with the 83rd Company. He was a member of the Holdfast United Church, an avid member of the sports in Holdfast, a member of the Cosmo Club, and a season ticket holder of the Moose Jaw Warriors until 2006. Vern enjoyed his friends, joining them for coffee, playing cards, and being social. He was very well known and loved by all those that met him. Predeceased by his parents, Allen and Floss Caldwell, an aunt, Beverly Caldwell and husband (Paul Searcy), and uncle, Rex Caldwell. Vern will be very sadly missed by his wife of fifty-four years, Isobel; sons: Tom (Vicky) and Morley; grandsons: Ryan and Allen, sister, Elaine (Caldwell) Myrah and her husband Wes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held. COSTELLO - Harry Bernard (October 18, 1921 - December 28, 2004) passed away peacefully after a cancer-related illness. Our much loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and educator will be remembered and appreciated by his remaining family and his many friends. Harry is survived by his sister Helen (Einer) Vaagen, his brother-in-law Chuck Boskill, his two daughters, Sharon Costello and Dr. Maureen (Rod)Haberstock; Mary (Howard) McGregor who was as his daughter for many years, as well as his two grandchildren, Erica and Kevin Fensom, and godchildren Jane (Rob) Oswald and Michael Flynn. He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary; his sisters: Marg (Eric) Butler and Eva Costello and brother Melvin Costello. Harry Costello was born into education in the teacherage at Lake Shore School at Holdfast, SK. Both his father Louis and mother Mary were involved in education, Louis having taught for over 52 years, and Mary acting as a school nurse. Harry gained from his parents a life-long commitment to education in Saskatchewan. Harry Costello attended Normal School in Saskatoon from 1941-1942, and then joined the RCAF, where he served as a radio operator until 1945. After WWII, he completed a BEd at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1949, Harry married Catherine Flynn, sharing 54 years of marriage until her passing in 2003. Harry continued military service as a Cadet Officer Instructor until 1962, helping an entire generation of Prince Albert youth, gain the skills and self-confidence they needed to succeed in life. Harry was a superb teacher, serving his community as a professional educator for over 20 years. He taught in a wide variety of environments, from one-room schoolhouses to large urban schools such as Prince Albert Collegiate, where he specialized in physics and chemistry, and served as assistant principal. He was very involved in fostering professional education throughout Saskatchewan, and was pivotal in improving working conditions and benefits for all Saskatchewan educators as an executive with the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation. Harry was instrumental in obtaining equal pay for nuns and in establishing the initial comprehensive teachers pension plan. Harry's commitment to education continued throughout his life, with Harry being awarded a Masters of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995 at the age of 74. His community involvement included Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Saskatchewan Retired Teachers Association. His love of family and commitment to education has been an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank all the compassionate and professional caregivers who touched his life, especially the care workers at Sherbrooke Community Centre and the oncology nursing staff at the Royal University Hospital. DALY - Pauline (nee Boehm) was born and raised in the Holdfast area and passed away peacefully on March 17, 2007 after a nine-year battle with cancer. Her family originally lived on a farm, and then moved into Holdfast after her Dad retired from farming. Throughout school she was active in sports and in the community. Pauline graduated from the Schell School in Holdfast. After graduation, she moved to Regina and began working at IPSCO. Through her friends at IPSCO, Pauline met Terry and they eventually married on July 5, 1980. During that time, Pauline moved to a new job at the Bank of Montreal where she worked at numerous branches in Regina. In 1981, Pauline and Terry moved to the Terry's family farm. In 1987, Pauline and Terry were blessed with a son Brett. Pauline is survived by her husband Terry; son Brett; mother Magdalena Boehm; sister Marianne Parker; brothers Danny (Lorraine), Joe (Rina), Mike (Carol) and Rudy (Donna) Boehm and all their families; mother-in-law Sally Daly; brothers and sisters-in-law Maureen Daly, Susan (Tom) Wanner, Mike, Brad (Tanice), Kevin (Jennifer) and Jason Daly and all their families. On November 26,2007 Clemens "Clem" Ell, late of Holdfast, Sask. passed away at the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 84 following a short illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Maria Ell, a sister Catherine, and brothers Ralph, Sebastian and Ignatz. Clem is survived by two sisters; Sr. Mary Ell (Sisters of Charity) and Bernadette (Ehman), one brother; John (Kay), and many nieces and nephews. Clem attended University for three years and worked in Toronto for one year. When he returned home, he began his farming career, which spanned the balance of his life. Two years ago, he moved into Holdfast where he retired. Clem was active in sports and enjoyed baseball, curling and golf. He continued to golf until he required a hip replacement and then resorted to watching his favorite sports on television. He was also very active in the community and was happy to support the local businesses. For many years, he provided a scholarship to Schell High School graduating students. On Monday, April 20, 2009 John Karl Ell passed away at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility at Imperial, SK at the age of 96 years. Dad was predeceased by his wife of sixty-two years, Margaret (2001); his parents, Karl and Katherina; brother, Henry; sisters, Kathern, Angelina and Mary; John is survived by his daughter, Ardell (Brian) Bartle and their children Sandy (Russ) Stewart and their children Andy, Samantha, Sharlett and Shantel; Lynn (Reg) St. Laurent and their daughters Isabella and Gabrielle; and their son Curtis Bartle and his son Tyler; his sister Amelia Roche; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John farmed all his life. He and Margaret retired in 1980 in the village of Holdfast. He spent his time gardening, puttering in the garage, yard work, trips downtown and feeding the town stray cats in his garage. On November 24, 2005, Raphael (Ralph) Charles Ell, late of Arbor Oaks Personal Care Home, Regina, passed away at Grace Hospice at the age of 93 years following a recent battle with cancer. Ralph was predeceased by his wife Agatha, son Lyle Ell, parents Sebastian and Maria, a sister Catherine and brothers Ignatz and Sebastian Ell. Ralph, known to many as Uncle Ralph or Grandpa farmed in the Holdfast area until his retirement to Holdfast. He moved to Regina in 2002. He enjoyed his outings to the casino, playing cards, watching sports, especially his children and grandchildren and having his family around him. Ralph was a honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered by his love of licorice allsorts; his bright smile which was apparent right to the end. On September 16, 2002, Sebastian Pius Ell, late of Holdfast,Sask., passed away at William Booth Special Care Home at the age of 83 years following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Maria Ell, a sister Catherine and brother Ignatz. Sebastian is survived by two sisters, Sr. Mary (Sisters of Charity) and Bernadette (Ehman) and three brothers Ralph, John and Clem and many nieces and nephews. Sebastian farmed for many years and was active in the community. He especially enjoyed repairing small equipment and doing woodworking in his retirement years. He was known in the community as "Mr. Fix-it" by young and old alike. He lived in his own home in Holdfast until he was hospitalized in November 2000. In December 2000 he was admitted to William Booth Special Care Home where he made many friends among both residents and staff. The death of Sister Amanda Agnes Fahlman (Sister M. Antoinette) Of Ruth Ross Residence, occurred at the residence on Sunday October 15, 2000. Born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of John J. and Susan (Thauberger) Fahlman. She entered the Sister's of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on July 11, 1931. Sister Fahlman taught in Holdfast, Saskatchewan; St. Joseph's School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and St. Anthony's and St.Clare's Schools in Vancouver, B.C. Following her retirement from teaching, Sister Fahlman did remedial work in school, as well as serving in the parish religion program. She was involved in pastoral ministry in Hope, B.C. until her retirement to Ruth Ross Residence, Saint John, N.B., in 1989. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Joseph Fahlman, of Dilke, Saskatchewan, two sisters, Mrs. Mary (Otmar) Sabo, of Calgary, Alberta, and Mrs. Evelyn (Fred) Ehman, of Craik, Saskatchewan, one aunt, Mrs. Ida Gaudet, Hayward, California, and several nieces and nephews. The family of Daniel Folk sadly announces his passing on February 10, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Daniel was born, raised and spent his life farming in the Holdfast area. His life's goal was to produce a good crop every year. Daniel worked very hard all his life to provide for his family. In his earlier years, he was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, hockey and golf. He rarely missed an opportunity to go ice fishing. Later he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their many sporting activities. Daniel was well read and enjoyed learning about a variety of different subjects. This aided his ability to discuss any issue with a willing adversary. Daniel's memory will be greatly cherished by his loving and supportive wife of 42 years, Bertha, his daughter Laura (Ian) Martens, son Mark (Lindsay) Folk, daughter Carmel (Brad) Trakalo and daughter Valerie (Kevin) Doyle; grandchildren Delena, Celin, Ian, Tyler, Carter, Austin, Erik, Shane, Ryan and Samantha. After working in a number of different jobs, Gene focused on the printing industry, working with a number of different companies including Caxton and Commercial Printers. Gene retired in 2001 after helping his son Ron open his own graphics company. Gene and his family enjoyed many years at the cottage at Wee Too Beach. He got great enjoyment from card playing and the socializing that came along with that. Gene was actively involved and a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1247. He held a number of offices within, including two terms as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was president of the Regina Chapter and also enjoyed tremendously his many years of service on the Knight's Major Degree Team. He loved meeting the candidates and challenging them in the life of the Knights. He enjoyed organizing dances, social activities and trips to Hawaii and Florida for the Knights. His tenure culminated with being a Fourth Degree member of the Father Hugonard Assembly. Later on he also worked bingo and fundraisers for council 1247. During his many years of involvement with the Knights of Columbus he developed many friendships and had many good memories which will be valued for eternity. Thanks to all those people who expressed to us how special a person Gene was; family, friends and anyone who helped make Geno's final days as comfortable as possible. Florian was very active in the Holdfast community; we was Mayor of Holdfast for 14 years, director of the Holdfast Credit Union and was very involved with the Knights of Columbus. He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. FOLK - Michael Genus (March 27, 1933 - January 11, 2010) Mike Folk beloved husband of Darlene of Airdrie, passed away on January 11, 2010 at the age of 76 years. Mike was born in Holdfast, SK and lived there most of his life. He moved to Airdrie, AB in 2004 and finally into the Bethany Care Centre in 2007. Mike started farming at the age of thirteen and farmed his entire life until retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holdfast hockey team. This was how he met his future wife, Darlene McGhee, they were married on April 23, 1960. His greatest achievement was his kids and grandkids. The best vacations he took usually involved trekking all the kids to BC every summer which people thought was crazy as there were five kids and just a small tent trailer. All the hiking trails took care of the extra energy and the kids were reasonably behaved. He enjoyed his trucking adventures with his daughter Leanne and son-in-law Scott and really enjoyed the winter vacations in Arkansas. There was one very special trip when he took his wife to Hawaii to celebrate their 25th anniversary. It was three weeks of bliss with no kids to worry about. He enjoyed hockey, both watching and playing. The Toronto Maple Leafs were his favorite team, he also enjoyed hunting, baseball, camping, golfing, and fishing. He also enjoyed yodeling and playing his accordion and supporting all his kids in their sporting activities. His true passion was cheering the Saskatchewan Roughriders whenever they played. Rose came to Regina in 1938 and worked at different jobs for a few years. She then took a business course, and after completion, she started work at American News, where she stayed for 11 years. She then went to Pittsburgh Paint (P.P.G) where she was employed for 25 years. She enjoyed her work and the people she worked with. She also enjoyed curling, bowling, leatherwork, oil painting and water colors. Rose loved traveling to different places, Hawaii, the Maritimes, Reno, Vegas, BC and shorter bus tours. Rose also enjoyed spending time at the cottage with family and friends. She put together two Folk History Books, one in 1990 and an updated with pictures in 2001. Al was a kind, gentle soul whose life brought smiles to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed by all including his 10 great grandchildren. Al was born the second youngest of 19 children in the farming community of Holdfast, Sask. His early years were spent farming, fishing & schooling, this is where he met his wife to be, Emelia. Al & Emelia moved to Regina, Sask. where they raised their three children, Darrell, Doug and Greg. Al was employed as a crane operator till the recession of the early 70's when he relocated the family to Lethbridge. Dad stayed the course working in the steel industry and mom at Sears till they both retired. They spent many happy years camping with friends, having family gatherings (such as reunions and Frohlick sausage making) and travelling. Mom left dad's side in her passing in 2007. Dad's final years were spent travelling with family and friends as well being an active member of the Norbridge Senior Centre. He was able to remain in his own home almost to the end. FROHLICK - Jack was born on the family farm at Holdfast, SK on November 20, 1916 to Gabriel and Theresa Frohlick. He was one of 15 children. Predeceased by his mother in 1962; father in 1968; his wife, Mary in 2004; 4 brothers: John, Joe, Mike and Gabe; 5 sisters: Ann Brown, Mary Murphy, Kay Giesinger and Barbara Hoffert; Jack is survived by his son, Tim (Ginny) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 3 brothers, Tony (Theresa) of Regina, Al of Lethbridge, AB, and Stan (Mary) of Regina; 2 sisters, Theresa Miller of Holdfast and Madeline Karr of Winnipeg, MB; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack was a very loving person and was liked by everyone. He served in the Air Force in WW11 and after the war he became a barber in Winnipeg, Pine Falls and Vancouver. Jack moved to California and continued his career until retirement. After retirement he moved to White Rock, B.C. where he was active in a number of organizations including the Legion. In the fall of 2004 Jack moved to Regina to reside at the Bentley, a private nursing home and then to Santa Maria. Edith spent her life serving her community and family. She was born and raised in Swift Current and moved to Holdfast in 1932 where she was employed as an assistant for the Secretary-Treasurer of the R.M. of Sarnia. She became acting Secretary-Treasurer in 1935 and held that position for two years before turning the job over to a handsome rookie named Robert, whom she married in 1938. Edith continued working for the R.M. and Village of Holdfast for 48 years, raising six children in a home rich in family traditions. In 1980, Edith and Bob retired to their home on Last Mountain Lake and hosted many memorable family gatherings there. In 1999, Edith moved to Marian Chateau in Regina where she continued her self-reliant lifestyle, enjoying the many activities and services offered by the kind staff, especially those organized by her friend Sandy Tomlinson. Edith was the energizer of the family, a woman of sharp intellect and wit, who adjusted to life's challenges with admirable optimism. She had a passion for reading (the night-lamp was always burning) and when her sight failed her in later years, she spent many hours devouring book tapes. Edith prided herself in keeping abreast of world events and discussing these events with her children and grandchildren, dispensing her noholds-barred wisdom. Mostly though, Edith looked forward to being with her family at the lake. An inspiration to family and friends, mom will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She moved to Regina, where she received her high school education. Her career consisted of employment at Simpson Sears, Canadian General Electric and the Highway Traffic Board (SGI). In her retirement years, Theresa enjoyed having quiet peaceful times with her husband George; as well as coffeeing and shopping with her best friend and sister Kathy. She was a loving, friendly and caring person who was always there for everyone. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Katherine Zerr; sisters Elizabeth, Margaret, Madeline and Mary; brothers John, Erasmus, Stephen and Daniel; one niece; three nephews; brothers-in-law George Lutes, John Gelsinger, John Bonogofski, Bud Nunns, Peter Gartner and Denis Blondeau and sister-in-law Dora Zerr. GIESINGER - John J. With sorrow we announce the passing of John J. Giesinger at the age of 79 on November 20, 2001 at Wascana Hospital, Regina. John will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Annabelle, his daughters Connie McLeod (Neal), and Karen Forster (Christian), his son, Nick Giesinger (Debbie), and his grandchildren Alison, Nicholas, Dominique, Jeremy, Emily, and Kayleanna. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Lawrence (Andy), Daisy Arnold (Bill), Alice Hegel (Ed), Jenny Bresciani, and Rose Kurzaba (Peter); sisters-in-law Phyllis Giesinger and Della Giesinger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, brothers George, Ben, Frank, and Joe, and sisters Mary and Birdie. John was born November 19, 1922, on the family homestead at Holdfast, Sask. to John Giesinger and Margaret Lutz. John was the sixth of twelve children. The family moved to Regina and John received his education entirely in the separate school system. Attending St. Joseph and St. Augustine elementary school, John's secondary education was completed at Campion College and he graduated in 1940. He then enrolled in a special business course at Balfour Tech. in Regina. Upon the death of his father, John went to work for McBride's grocery in early 1941 and later that same year he joined Simpson's mail order as a stockman. John enlisted in the R.C.A.F and upon graduating as an air observer (navigator - wireless operator - bomb aimer - gunner) he was posted to the R.A.F. Transport Command (Ferry Command) until the cessation of hostilities in Europe. He received his honourable discharge in July 1945. He returned to Simpson's as a stock keeper and pursued his career with Simpson's and later known as Simpson's Sears. After a series of promotions he became a Group Merchandise Manager for a number of years. Having completed 46 years service, John accepted early retirement from the company in August 1982. John was active in his early years as an Altar Boy, and later the Holy Name Society where he was a church member of Little Flower Church for many years. He also served on the church building and fund raising committee. John was a charter member of the Little Flower Credit Union and served on that Board of Directors for many years. John was active in the C.Y.O. for a number of years, where he met his wife Annabelle. John joined the Knights of Columbus in 1953 a charitable fund raising organization, where he became an active member in Chapter 1247. In 1961 - 1962 John was the second Grand Knight of Chapter 4959 Incorporated in 1960 at Little Flower Church. After their marriage in 1950 and moving to Holy Cross Parish in 1959, he joined the Men's Club, and later became Chairman of the Holy Cross Jubilee Fund Raising Campaign. Having moved to St. Cecilia in 1964 and becoming active in that parish, John became President of St. Cecilia Church Board and partook in various other functions such as Sunday Mass usher, counting Sunday collections, and choir member with Annabelle. John also participated as a Separate School Board Trustee member for two terms. John had a severe stroke in January 1984 while on holiday in Maracaibo, Venezuela and has been living at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Veteran's Wing for the past 17 years. The Wascana staff became part of his extended family and he enjoyed taking care of them by regularly giving them candy treats. While at Wascana Hospital, John participated in various activities and particularly enjoyed the Red Cross Veteran's Craft Program where he created various crafts and won numerous awards at the Regina Exhibition for his paintings on bags, aprons and pillows. The death of Sister Mary Ann Giesinger (Sister Esther), of Ruth Ross Residence, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 10, 2001. Sister Mary Ann was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Lutz) Giesinger. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1935. Sr. Mary Ann taught at Immaculate Heart and Sacred Heart Schools in Vancouver. Sister received her Registered Nursing Assistant certificate from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She spent many hours as a volunteer at such places as the Royal Alex Hospital, Birthright and CNIB, Edmonton, Alberta, and at St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa, Ontario. Sister moved to Saint John, N.B. in 1999 and resided at Ruth Ross Residence. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, George, Ben, and Frank, and sister, Bridget (Birdie) Jacobs. They lived in Regina for a number of years with their 2 sons, Ryan and Matthew before moving to Calgary. Ron retired from the post office in 2008, but continued to work at Beinnein Kennels, which he and Darle established over 20 years ago. Ron had a great sense of humour, a generous & warm heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will always be remembered for being extremely hard working & for his countless, humorous stories. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, & by everyone who knew him. He truly was a handyman and could build just about anything. He loved to travel with his family and see new places as well as meet new people. He had an affinity for animals both growing up on the farm and later in the city. Harold will always be remembered as a true giver of his time and talents to all people without expecting anything in return. He appreciated and enjoyed time spent with family and friends and had a wonderful way with babies and children. The most important thing about his life was that he loved the Lord his God and touched people's lives with his faith. The Interment will be held at Holdfast Cemetery at a later date. KIPPER - Katherine (Kay) Kipper passed away Thursday, June 7, 2001 at the young age of 94 in the presence of her loving family. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Kipper, daughter Edith (John) Fabian, granddaughter Valerie Kattler, son-in-law Louie Kattler, parents Stephanie and Peter Wickenheiser, brothers Peter, Ewald and Joe, sisters Helen (Fred) Gruber and Tillie (Stanley) Getz. Kay is survived by four daughters Dorothy (Adolf) Semler, Gail (Gordon) Zehner, Betty (Ed) Gulash and Rosalyn (Al) Martin; brothers and sisters Edmond, Adam, Engelbert (Bert), Charlie, Oswald (Wally), Elizabeth (John) Mastel, Ursula (Ben) Reiss, Louise (Ken) Bobbett, Pauline (Bernie) Reilander and Edith (Gordon) West. Kay was blessed with 17 surviving grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Kay was born on April 22, 1907 in South Qu'Appelle which at that time was still the NWT and was raised in Vibank. She married Bill in 1929 and farmed in Holdfast. They moved to Regina in 1942 where they remained. She had been a long time member of the C.W.L. and church choir at Little Flower Parish. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 11, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. in the Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Ave., Regina, SK with Rev. B. Mahoney and Rev. M. Fahlman, Con-celebrants. Interment will follow in the Riverside Memorial Park. KNOLL - Margaret Rose (nee Schaffer) was born June 8, 1921 in Holdfast, and passed away August 19, 2004 at Pasqua Hospital, Regina. Margaret was the oldest and only daughter of Michael and Maria. Margaret had four younger brothers she helped raise and had to contend with their many pranks. Margaret married Henry Knoll, October 28, 1940 and they lived on the Keller farm north of Fillmore, then Glover farm north of Osage, then purchasing Henry's father's farm five miles northeast of Osage until retirement to Fillmore, then moved to Weyburn after Henry's health failed. Margaret worked along side Henry on their farm as well as being a housewife. After they moved to town they were caretakers of the Fillmore rink. Margaret enjoyed curling, playing cards with family and neighbors, crocheting afghans and reading. Margaret had a very strong faith and was a member of C.W.L., at Fillmore for many years. Margaret and Henry celebrated 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries and Margaret celebrated her 80th birthday. Margaret took great pride in the years of farming, recalling the hardships they endured together, as well as the wonderful life of country living and of happy times with old friends and family gatherings. She always said, "Farming was our life". Her greatest source of joy was her grandchildren, taking interest in their lives and their happiness. April 1, 2004, her greatest wish came true; Paige Lillian Knoll was born making her a great grandmother. Margaret was a loving, caring person, her sons and family were very important to her, she will be truly missed by us all. After a very active and colorful life, our Father, Grandfather and Friend has passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB. at the age of 82 from a brief illness. Mike lived life on his own terms. He passed on to his daughters his extraordinary work ethic and his generosity to us girls whilst we were growing up will always be remembered. Mike was born in Holdfast, Sask and moved to Medicine Hat in 1947 at the age of 14. Later he moved to Calgary and started working for CP Rail, before joining the Calgary Fire Department. After leaving the Fire Department he became self-employed and enjoyed many years of success. Mike was an avid Flames, Stampeders and Blue Jay�s fan. He loved going to the track and watching the thoroughbred races and when they moved out of Calgary, he could be found at Schanks watching them on the big screen. Our Dad will be sadly missed by his four daughters, Cindy (Tim) Down, Tracy (Greg) Bussing, Tammy (Ron) Dodd, and Holly (Bruno) Milanko; his nine grandchildren, Lindsay (Ted), Melissa, Kristy (Kellen), Brooke (Derek), Danielle, Samantha, Siena, Ryan and Brandon; one great-grandson, Devon and future great- grandson, Jackson. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park. MAERZ - Barbara (nee Hill) Maerz was born October 1st, 1932 at Haslingden, Lancashire, England. At the age of two she emigrated with her parents to Canada. They lived on the farm in Little Arm Valley just east of Chamberlain. After completing her secondary schooling, Barbara graduated from Psychiatric Nursing in Selkirk, Manitoba. In 1954, she married Wilfred Maerz of Holdfast at the Anglican Church in Selkirk. Barbara and Wilfred spent the next twenty-nine years on the family farm raising cattle, crops and ultimately three sons. In 1983, Barbara and Wilfred moved from the farm to the town of Holdfast. Mom's love of gardening, photography, Royal Watching and the occasional visit to the casino kept her busy through these years. Just as a new chapter in their life was about to begin, Barbara suffered a stroke on April 3rd. After spending two months in the hospital, Barbara passed away peacefully on June 14, 2010. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Martha Hill. She is survived by her husband Wilfred and sons: Trevor (Shirley), Mayson (Linda), and Sheldon (Deena). She is also remembered by her grandchildren: Rhonda (Chad), Wesley (Diana), Jesse, Erin, Brett, William and Rachel as well as her great-grandchildren Owen, Claire, Samantha and Elizabeth. MAERZ - Wilfred William (December 29, 1923 - July 17, 2012). Wilfred William Maerz was born on December 29th, 1923 in his parent's farmhouse located southwest of Holdfast. Dad grew up with his brother and sisters during a time of great challenge, of good years in the '20's and then, the Dirty '30's. After completing grade eight at Everett School he went to work for neighbor, Charlie Fox. A sense of adventure drew Wilfred to enlist in the Canadian Army at seventeen years of age. He excelled at mathematics and geometry which fit very well with Anti-Aircraft Artillery training. As World War II progressed Wilfred ended up in combat with the Canadian Scottish Regiment. He took part in the liberation of the Netherlands and was wounded in action near Deventer on April 9, 1945. After recovery and discharge, he returned home in 1946 to operate the family farm. In 1954 he married his sweetheart, Barbara Hill, and together they raised three boys. While the farm was Wilfred's priority, ensuring his sons had every opportunity to succeed was his lifelong goal. He was very proud of his family. Wilfred served many roles within the Royal Canadian Legion, the Holdfast United Church, and spent most springs coaching his boys in baseball. Wilfred farmed with his eldest son and grandson until retirement. He experienced renal failure in 2008 and after three and one-half years of dialysis treatment he passed away on July 17. Wilfred is predeceased by his wife Barbara, his parents Conrad and Helene, and his siblings - Edna, Emily, Elsie, Frieda, Christine, John, Johanna, and Arthur. He is survived by his sons Trevor (Shirley), Mayson (Linda), and Sheldon (Deena); grandchildren Rhonda (Chad) Minchuk, Wesley (Diana), Jesse, Erin, Brett, William and Rachel; great-grandchildren Owen, Claire, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Levi; brother-in-law Dean (Elsie) Allen and several nieces and nephews. On Saturday, February 17, 2007, Melonia 'Lena' Rose Makelki, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 83 years. Lena was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Regina Keller, son, Kenneth Knoll, her first husband, Balzer Knoll, second husband, Jake Makelki, two brothers, George and Peter Keller, three brothers-in-law, Stan Eberle, Vernon Leas and Peter Ripplinger. Lena leaves to mourn her family: son, Gerald (Carol Kezama) Knoll of Calgary, AB and his children, Corey (Linda) Knoll and their son Jonathon, Martine (Brent) Stillwell; and their mother, Myriam Knoll; daughter, Audrey (Maurice) Clark of Weyburn, and their children, Serena Clark, Jordan (Susan) Clark, Landon Clark; four sisters, Polly Eberle, Betty Ripplinger, Evelyn Leas, Katie 'Babe' (Mike) Weichel; two sisters-in-law, Jeanine Keller and Marion Keller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lena was born December 9, 1923 at Holdfast, the eldest child of seven. She attended a country school at Holdfast. Her first marriage to Balzer Knoll was a double wedding along with her sister Polly to Stan Eberle in 1945. They had a mixed farm in the Montmartre area with grain and cattle until 1974 when they moved to Weyburn. Lena spent her time milking cows and helping with the farming operation, along with cooking, baking and raising their family. She loved socializing at the coffee shop, dancing and gardening. After Balzer passed away, Lena married Jake Makelki in Weyburn in 1988. She was a loyal member of the Roman Catholic Church. Family was extremely important to Lena and she loved to have someone stop by for a visit. She will be lovingly remembered by all she knew and loved. Betty attended Teacher's College in Moose Jaw. After teaching school in the Sarnia district, she married David Ross Spencer of Holdfast, SK. They farmed in the Holdfast district where they raised their five sons. Ross and Betty especially enjoyed watching their sons involvement in sports at the local level. After retiring to Moose Jaw, Betty was widowed. She met and later married Howard Marzolf of the Central Butte district in December 1990. For 15 years they were socialites in the Moose Jaw community. They were die-hard Blue Jay fans who celebrated two pennants and like Maple Leaf fans, followed them through their difficult seasons. Betty was a dedicated member of the Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble, bowling, golfing, and special moments with her families. One of Betty's greatest joys was the time she spent following the education and accomplishments of her fourteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After a courageous fight with vascilitis in the Regina General Hospital, Betty passed away. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday August 24, 2005 at 1:30 pm. MAUPIN - Jean Maupin passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2011 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, and daughter Janice (Bob Phaneuf). Jean is survived by her son Kelly (Karen) and their children, Steve and Lisa of Regina and by Janice's daughter, Reva Valiukas of Surrey, BC. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Pauline, Helen and Lydia; brother Pete as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Though we will miss her deeply we are grateful for her life and all the memories. Jean grew up on a farm near Holdfast, then moved to work in Regina before marrying and starting a family. Jean spent many years as a homemaker and especially enjoyed gardening and camping. Jean ran the Lottery Kiosk in the Sherwood Village Mall, where her and Bill met many customers, many of whom became friends. Jean loved to travel and cherished trips to the Okanagan and Vancouver, as well as time spent at Crystal Lake. She really enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, liked to go out for supper and absolutely loved to read. We will always remember her immense talent for fashion she was always "dressed to the nines". Jean has spent the past year living at the Renaissance Retirement Home where she renewed old friendships and made new ones. At Jean's request, there will be no funeral service. MCWILLIAMS - Ethel Helen (nee Blashill) of Regina Sask., (formerly of Holdfast Sk.) age 86 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8th, 2003 at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina Sask. She taught school for many years until her retirement in 1978 at age 62. Ethel had the God given ability to inspire her students which enhanced their progress & development. Ethel had a life long interest in the well being and development of all. Ethel believed in taking an active roll in her community, she was involved with the library, Rebekah Lodge, United Church Ladies, The Holdfast Seniors, The Legion Poem & Essay contest to name some. Her family always came first & especially the grandchildren & great grandchildren. Ethel was a true Saskatchewanonian. (United Church). The interment will be at a later date. MCWILLIAMS - Patricia Eleanor (nee McAusland). It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patricia Eleanor McWilliams on October 31, 2007 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She was born May 29, 1951 in Melfort, Saskatchewan and is predeceased by her mother, Muriel McAusland. She leaves to mourn her loss, her father Clarance McAusland, her partner Diaby Batoura, her daughter and best friend Heather Fiona McWilliams (special friend Cameron Hutchings), her wonderfully talented son Ian McWilliams (special friend Marie Bayle), and special nephew Christopher McAusland. She also leaves behind her sisters, Frances (Arthur) Westlund, Marian (David) Kettlewell, Janet McAusland, as well as the father of her children, James McWilliams, and nieces and nephews. Patricia was devoted to her children that she raised with her husband James on their farm at Holdfast, Saskatchewan. Her personal interests included gardening and music and she was an avid reader. Patricia always had a keen interest in politics and the affairs of the world. She was a passionate learner and over her lifetime earned Bachelor of Administration, Bachelor of Arts, and Masters of Education (Distance Education) degrees. Her career in education began with the community college in Davidson, Saskatchewan with the mandate to revitalize the rural community. She started in continuing and contracted training when she was the Program Head of Business and Community Education at SIAST Wascana Campus and Coordinator of Distance Education at SIAST Corporate Office. She was truly a pioneer in the field of distance education and her expertise took her to more than forty countries around the world. During her years as Senior Training Specialist for the Commonwealth of Learning, an international non-governmental organization devoted to the promotion of open learning and distance education throughout the world, Patricia coordinated the development of a wealth of training programs and courseware for distance educators around the world. The work of non-formal and adult basic education was especially important to Patricia, and she was a key figure in the field, organizing international workshops and overseeing projects. On leaving the Commonwealth of Learning, Patricia freelanced as a consultant in open and distance education, working with organizations in Africa and Asia from a home base in South Africa. More recently she worked on projects in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. A private memorial service will be held in Melfort on November 15, 2007. MEASNER - Cora Hilda Isabel (nee Slater) The death of Cora Hilda Isabel aged 71 years of Holdfast, SK occurred at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK. Clarence was born March 24, 1939 and grew up on the family farm near Holdfast, Sask. He worked in Regina and Thompson, Manitoba before venturing to BC and eventually settled in Mackenzie working as a truck driver. In 1996 Clarence retired and moved to Port Alberni. He was a member of the Mackenzie Elks Lodge. Clarence is predeceased by his father John Metz, infant brother Brian, brothers-in-law Glenn Sivertson & Somenath Banerjee and sisterin-law Eda Metz. Clarence is survived by his companion Lois Fischer, daughters Manon & Nikki, grandchildren Stephanie, Andrienna & Bailey, his mother Anne Metz and siblings Gerald, Marion (Ed), Doreen (Marcel), Linda, Jerry (Linda), Harold (Sharon), Lorraine (Richard), Alvin (Dorothy), Donna (Sam), Leslie (Deanna), Joanne (John), Bernice (Rod) and many nieces and nephews. MILLER - Eva (nee Thomas) Miller, our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 13, 2004, at the Weyburn General Hospital, age 89 years. Eva was born February 17, 1915 at Holdfast, SK, to John and Mary Thomas, the third youngest of 18 children. She married John Miller, January 1934, and they had a family of eight children. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 62 years, in which each was the other's best friend. They enjoyed the company of relatives and neighbours of the Ralph/ Grand Bend/ Little Rock School communities. Mother was a superlative homemaker. Her clean home, cooking and baking, canning, sewing, knitting, embroidery, quilting, gardening, raising chickens and turkeys were second only to her devoted care of her family. She knew a home remedy for most ailments and her healing hands soothed many a pain or fevered brow. She lived her faith and she will be missed by many who knew her kind and gentle ways. She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband John in 1996, all of her brothers and sisters, one infant daughter, Audrey in 1937, and one son Jim in 1989. MISNIAK - Anna (nee Giesinger) beloved wife of John Misniak passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at Santa Maria Sr. Citizens Home at the age of 95 years. Anna Veronica Giesinger was born in Holdfast, SK on November 3, 1910 to Paul and Anastasia Giesinger. She moved to Regina as a young woman and worked for many years with the Singer Sewing Co. and the Province of Saskatchewan. On June 30, 1956 she married Mieczyslaw John Misniak at St. Mary's Church in Regina. She and John celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends on June 27, 2006. Anna is survived by her husband, John. REITER - Margaret Reiter (nee Pfleger) 1908-2011. Margaret left this world very peacefully on Thursday morning, November 10, 2011. She was 103 years, 6 months and 4 days old. She was predeceased by her Husband Joseph, parents Nikolaus and Eva Pfleger; all 8 of her brother and sisters, 2 nieces and 5 stepchildren. In July of 1940 Margaret married Joseph Reiter, a widower with 8 children. Left to celebrate her life is her sister-in-law Catherine Pfleger, 2 children Thomas (Angeline) and Mary (Valentine) and 2 daughters-in-law, Josephine and Armella; 24 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 78 great-greatgrandchildren and 1 great-great-greatgrandchild. She also leaves behind 5 nieces and 2 nephews. Margaret, upon having to leave her home in Holdfast for health reasons in 2005, moved to Prairie Lily Care Home in Regina where she stayed for 3 years. At that point she moved to the William Booth Special Care Home where she lived for over 3 years. Here she thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment, outings, bingos and any other activities she was able to participate in. On December 18, 2003, Sebastian John (Bill) Rieger, late of Holdfast, Sask; passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the age of 80 years. Bill was born and raised in Holdfast and completed his schooling there. After working a brief time in British Columbia he returned to Holdfast and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, earning the position of Forman on the Section Crew. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Cecilia Rieger (Holdfast) his sister Cecilia Morgan (Kenora, Ont.) and brothers Tony and Henry, (Regina). He is survived by his siblings Pauline Haliburton (Iowa), Jean Maupin (Regina), Rose (Jack) Gangl (Regina), Chris Parker (Pilot Butte), Helen (Regina), John (Regina), Peter (Margaret) (Calgary), Lydia Desalchuck (Regina), sisters in law, Jean Rieger and Theresa Rieger (Regina) and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Bill led a humble life and dedicated considerable time to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church and Parish. He assisted with Mass, played the organ, was a member of both the choir and parish council. Bill also served as Sacristan of the church which included many duties such as opening and closing the church, snow removal, bell ringing and serving as travel companion for the parish priest. Bill also did odd jobs for members of the Holdfast community and was always ready and willing to help whenever he could. She is survived by her sister, Belle Moir. Catherine married Frank Rink on February 17, 1936. They operated a Red and White General Store in Kendal until 1947 when Frank purchased the Holdfast Red & White. Frank and Kay were blessed with six children, Ronald (deceased), Marilyn, Marjorie (Fred), Francis (Mae), Gloria (Gerry) and Joan; her grandchildren, Sean (Caroline), Andrea (Dan), Tera (Tyler), Rob, Michael (Susan), Christopher (Jennifer) and Thalia and her great grandchildren, Gregory and Kate. Catherine was a passionate mother and a delighted grandmother. She was famous for her cinnamon buns, delicious meals and her candy cupboard. She was known for her work in Holdfast in the C.W.L, numerous wedding showers, farewells and fundraisers. Kay was also passionate about curling, football, and Canasta. She completed her training as a registered nurse at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert. Over the next 37 years, Emelie worked in hospitals in various locations, including RUH and Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon. Emelie's fondest memories were highlighted by the births of her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in following their childhoods and accomplishments. Emelie retired from nursing in 1977, with time to enjoy her plentiful garden, knitting for her grandchildren, Golden Age League bowling, reading and completing countless handicraft projects. Her favorite place to be was in her children's homes and her most precious times were celebrating Christmas as a family. SCHATZ - Bernard David passed away, surrounded by his family, at Juravinski Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer. Ben was born to the late Frank and Christina Schatz, on December 17, 1933, in Holdfast, Saskatchewan, one of 13 children, and moved to Hamilton, Ontario to open his first business, Quality Body and Refrigeration Ltd. Ben had a passion for music and was a self taught musician, playing the bass, steel, and guitar in numerous groups starting with the White Bucks back in the '50s. He loved nothing better than to get together with fellow musicians for a jam session both here and in Florida. Ben leaves behind his loving wife Barbara Young Schatz and 11 brothers and sisters, Theresa (Tony), John (Mildred), Peter (Bernice deceased), Madeline (Allan), Bernadette (Steve), Kay, Ed (Elaine), Anne (Jack), Joe (Marnie), Mary (Pete), Leo (Eleanor) and predeceased by Margaret (Frank). SCHMIDT - Catherine "Laurie" (nee Massine) passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the age of 82 years, beloved wife of Alfred "Al" Schmidt. She also leaves to cherish her memory four children, Trent (Susie), Brian (Gayle), Brad (Ann) and Wade (Jeanette); her grandchildren, Chantelle ( Scott ), their son Ethan; Tyler ( Hope), Brianna, Kayla, Andrew, Meghan and Sean (Sarah); one brother Clarence (Sandy) Massine as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Eva and Andrew Massine, one daughter in infancy and one brother. Laurie was born in Holdfast, Sask. on August 18, 1933. Her family moved to Hillcrest, Alberta where she completed her education. She then moved to Calgary to pursue a nursing career. While working as a nurse in McLennan, Alberta she met Alfred, who at that time was a young constable in The RCMP. They were married on June 21, 1958. While residing in Grande Prairie all four of their sons were born. The family then moved to Rocky Mountain House for nine years and then to Brooks, Alberta in 1972. When Alfred retired from the RCMP in 1977, the family then moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where they resided until full retirement in 1987. Upon retirement they became full time travellers until 1994, when they decided to settle in Medicine Hat, Alberta and finally retuning to Brooks in May of 2012. Laurie�s boys meant the world to her and were her pride and joy and this love was passed down to all of her grandchildren as they came into her life. She had a great ear for music and loved singing. She was a director of the Catholic Church choir in Brooks and also sang at many weddings and funerals. Also, through the years she was a first aid instructor in some of the remote areas of Alberta as well as a leader in the Boy Scout Organization. She was born at Holdfast, SK in 1905 to pioneer parents, Thomas Francis Caldwell and Harriet Ann Allen. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Paul Searcy in 1988. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Finch (Jessie) of Los Angeles, CA; a son, Gene (Linda) of Wakaw, SK; grandchildren, Alison Ciupa (Chet) of Calgary, AB, Karen Searcy (Michael Mercier) of Saskatoon, SK, Kevin Searcy (Dianne) of St. Albert, AB; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Mrs. Elaine Myrah of Regina, SK; and a nephew, Vernon Caldwell of Moose Jaw, SK. Beverly was educated at Kindred School, Regina College and Regina Normal School. She taught in one room country schools in the Holdfast, Penzance and Craik districts. In the 1920s and 1930s these schools were usually filled to capacity with students in grades one through nine. In 1936 she married Hugh Paul Searcy of Craik and they commenced farming at Strasbourg, SK. In 1942 they moved to the Caldwell homestead farm at Holdfast, operating that farm until retiring in 1967. In 1977 they moved to Saskatoon. Beverly was an active member of the United Church in Holdfast where she was the pianist and St. Paul's United Church in Saskatoon. In 1968 after a successful auction sale, Henry and Helen moved to Regina. Henry worked for MacDonald's Consolidated retiring after 25 years. Throughout his life Henry was able to wear many hats and wear them well, from the farmer, the sausage maker, the warehouse worker, the landlord, the winemaker, the gardener, the storyteller and in the most recent years the caregiver to our mother. During his adventures, Henry made many life long friendships always passing on his wisdom and secrets for making things grow bigger, taste better - wanting people to come back for more. On Monday, September 15, 2003, Elizabeth Swayze passed away in Regina, two weeks short of her 97th birthday. Betty, as she was known by her family and friends, was predeceased by her husband, Charles Swayze in 1965, parents John and Katherine Freckot, sisters Barbara Thauberger and Katherine Giel, brother John and stepbrother William Nedokus, as well as several siblings in their infancy. Betty is survived by her sons Edward (Marion) and Murray (Margot), four grandchildren, Michelle (Pat) Lyon, Charles (Jackie) Swayze, Susanne (Scott) Hendrickson, and Janis (Pat) Gerding, as well as seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Pauline Nettling and her family, and Anne (George) Mertler and their family. Born on a farm near Holdfast, Betty was a longtime resident of Regina. She enjoyed working during Federal, Provincial and civic elections, was a staunch supporter of the Roughriders, curled in her younger years, and continued to bowl well into her eighties, winning many awards. Betty also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends and participated in tournaments until her 95th year. The enjoyment of caring for her yard was evident by the beautiful dahlias she planted every year. On Betty's behalf, the family would like to thank her many friends for their assistance in filling her last years with so much pleasure. Adam was born on August 9, 1920 at Holdfast, Saskatchewan. He loved working on the farm and came to work in the city to earn enough money to own a farm. He met the love of his life, Katherine, in Regina in 1947 and they were married in 1948. They began raising a family and achieving their dream of farming with the purchase of their first farm at Pilot Butte in 1958 and then a dairy farm at McLean in 1969. Adam continued his passion for farming until his retirement in 1976 when they moved to Qu'Appelle. Adam's joys in life included spending time with family and friends, playing cards and visiting, getting his hands dirty on the land, gardening, dancing, watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. The family wished to extend sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff at Golden Prairie Nursing Home for their care and compassion for Adam. After living a full life of 99 years, John passed gently away on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Long Lake Integrated Health Centre in Imperial, Sask, where he had been a resident for the past five years. John is predeceased by his wife Adeline; sons John, Harvey and daughter MaryAnn and daughter-in-law Mary (Ash); sisters Alvina, Matilda, Mary, Annie, Sabina and brother Gottlieb. He is survived by his sons Keith (Marilyn), David (Ronnie), Don; daughter Joyce; daughters-in-law Betty and Jeanette; 15 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren and his sister Katherine. John was born in Holdfast September 15, 1913, and although he remained there for the rest of his life, he had a somewhat varied career. At age 14, he went to work for "Uncle AJ". Following that he was a Bulk Fuel Agent for Imperial Oil, bought grain for UGG, owned an Esso Service Station, and held dealerships for both Massey Harris/Ferguson farm equipment and Ford automobiles, all while being an active farmer. As a young man, John was an avid actor in local productions. He was a dedicated stamp and coin collector and enjoyed reading, particularly "Westerns". John was very active in the community including the Knights of Columbus and serving on various local boards. So very often, John gave quiet assistance to people in need. His one regret was that he was so busy providing for his family, that he did not spend as much time with them as he would have wished. On Saturday, November 19, 2005, Mary Ann Mary Thauberger, passed away at Wascana Grace Hospice in Regina. At age 11 months, Mary Ann came to join the family of John and Adeline Thauberger with their children John (Betty), Harvey (Jeanette), Keith (Marilyn), David (Ronnie), Joyce (Gord) and Don (Mary). Mary Ann attended elementary school at Holdfast and later relocated to Regina to receive further education and training. Mary Ann (Mary to her Regina friends), was a kind and generous person with a great memory of people from her past. Mary is fondly remembered by friends Robert dad Flamant and Cecile Larose, Cheryl and Lynn of Regina and Sheila Cote' of Nipawin. She was predeceased by her mother Adeline in 2000 and brother Harvey in 1997. Mary Ann had many hardships in her life, including a lengthy battle with cancer which took her life at age 43. Harvey. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of J. Harvey Tripps on October 8, 2008 at the age of 82 in Comox B.C., after a short battle with cancer while visiting his son. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Hilda and Carl Tripps and sister Merle Schindel. Harvey will be dearly missed by his loving wife June, daughter Janice (Bill), son Gary (Barb) and grandchildren Tamara, Ryan, Trevor, and Shannon, great grand children Avery and Lauren and sister Irene Code. At an early age Harvey took over the family farm where he farmed the next 40 years. They sold the family farm and then Mom and Dad moved to Holdfast, where Dad began a second career selling farm machinery. In 2003 due to failing health they moved to Saskatoon to be near their daughter. Dad enjoyed curling, fishing, playing cards and socializing with friends. many hours were spent in the woodworking shop where he crafted special projects for the family. He was a loyal Calgary Flames and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan as well as a selfproclaimed armchair quarterback. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were the reason he had a sparkle in his eye. Mrs. Cindy Wells, beloved wife of Mr. Fraser Wells of Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home after a five-month, very courageous battle against cancer on Monday, October 1st, 2007 at the age of 51 years. Cindy also leaves to cherish her memory one son, Scott Andreas of Australia; one step-daughter, Bailey Wells of Saskatoon; her parents, Andrew and Anne Folk of Medicine Hat; three brothers, Gerald (Edna) Folk of Regina, Douglas (Bernie) Folk of St. Albert and Allan (Gloria) Folk of Edmonton; one sister, Yvonne Harder of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cindy was predeceased by one daughter, Crystal Andreas in infancy; and one brother, Arnold Folk. Cindy was born on April 1st, 1956 in Regina and was raised in Holdfast until the age of 12. The family then moved to Medicine Hat where she completed her education and, for the most part, Medicine Hat remained her home. On November 10th, 2001, Cindy married Fraser in Medicine Hat. She enjoyed cooking, going for long walks with her dogs, gardening, and life. She especially loved children and for the better part of a year she ran a day home until becoming ill. Cindy will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. WILDFONG - Regina Kathleen (nee Burkart). October 12th, 1926 - Sept. 14th, 2005. Regina was born on the family farm east of Holdfast Sask. She passed away at the Craik & District Health Care Center, Craik Sask. Regina was in the middle of a family of eleven children, born to Michael & Rosa Burkart. Reg was predeseased by her parents Michael & Rosa, brother Joe, sister Mary and her loving husband Bert in July of 1996. She is survived by her loving family: Son Rick (Deb) & children Danielle & Russ: Lori (Geoff) Booth & children Jennifer & Dane. Also Jennifer & Danes father Gordon Sharp a special friend to mom. Sisters Dot, Helen & Kay (Jack) Ohara. Brothers Nick (Chris), Albert (Louella), Danny (Lillian), Gabe & Ruby. Also numerous nieces, nephews & other family members. Reg was a good ball player and a bit of a free spirit, leaving Holdfast at 16 to live & work in Regina. Her first job was waiting tables at the Simpson Sears Cafeteria in Regina. She met Bert in Craik in 1948 while working at the Craik Cafe. The first time she me Bert she thought he was a bit too outgoing. The first time dad met her he bounded out of the cafe and saw Ruby & Dave Watkins, who were on the sidewalk. Bert said to them I'm going to marry that girl. They were married in Bowbells, North Dakota, Feb. 18th, 1950. Mom said she was the only girl dumb enough to catch pitches for Hazel Measner. Hazel went on to pitch for the Rockford Peaches in the AAW Baseball League. Together Reg & Bert built a beautiful farm. They raised two grateful children & four wonderful grandchildren. Anyone who was lucky enough to be invited in for dinner or supper at mom's table will never forget the delicious meals and the good humor and love that filled our kitchen. Over the years she fed hundreds of men and was like a mother to more than a few. Some men came back year after year. She prepared thousands of meals, lunches & snacks for two grateful kids, while taking care of dad & the hired men for seven months every year. Her saskatoon pies, cookies, cakes & special desserts were the talk of the town. Mom enjoyed her garden, tending to her apple trees and picking saskatoons. Mom & dad spent twenty two winters in Hawaii together until dad's untimely death in 1996. The beauty & adventure they faced together in that paradise, added great happiness to their lives. These memories are special for us today in large part because of the wonderful times we had with our parents. Mom had a good life and she made a lot of people feel better for having known her and her loving & caring ways. Rose was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 1972; son Joseph 1940; parents Adolphe and Barbara Weinberger; infant sister Angela Weinberger; sister Catherine Eberle; brother John Weinberger; and brothers-inlaw John Eberle and Joseph Wolfe; sisterin-law Mary Ackerman. She is survived by her loving family: sons, Jim (Celeste); David; two sisters Agnes Weinberger and Anne Wolfe. Rosalia also leaves three grandchildren, Kim (Dalene); Victoria and Kenneth (Deanna). Rosalia was born February 8th, 1913 at Lajord Sask. At the age of seven, the family moved to Sedley. Rose married Anthony Wolfe October 26, 1936. They purchased the Penny farm between Penzance and Holdfast, where they lived until 1946, at which time they moved to Holdfast and became "Suitcase Farmers'. Rosalia was keenly interested in her family and enjoyed singing, music, playing cards, cooking, baking, and gardening. Celebrant Rev. Father Arnolfo Sisson. Internment Family Plot, Regina Memorial Gardens, Regina Sask. ZAHN - Frank Joseph passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2000, at the age of 78 years. Frank is predeceased by his wife Florence in 1969; one infant daughter Patricia Rose; his parents Rosie and Anton Zahn; two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his children: Joseph (Carol Fahlman) Zahn, Charlene (Doug Hartfield) Been, Juliette (Dave) Molesky, Cory (Mel Magnusson) Zahn; eight grandchildren: Brydon and Janell Zahn, David and Brittany Molesky, Aaron and Skylar Zahn, Klinton and Krystle Hartfield; two sisters: Theresa Coderre, Matilda (Jim) McKechnie and one sister-in-law Ethel (Norm) Fisher. Frank was born in Schuler, Alberta. He and his family moved to the Holdfast district in 1924, where he grew up with his six brothers and sisters. He lived in Regina for a few years after leaving home and then moved to Pilot Butte for approximately twenty years before moving back to Regina for the remainder of his years. On Sunday, July 31, 2005 John Thomas Zenzeluk, late of Regina, Sask. and formerly of Holdfast, passed away just two days before his 81st birthday. John was predeceased by his parents Mike and Elizabeth Zenzeluk; his wife Helen; sisters Ann (Lloyd) Moffatt and Kay (Joe) Kasper and brothers in law Victor Mahood and Harold Schaible. John is survived by his children Linda Dornian (fiancee Wayne) and David (Cindy) Zenzeluk; grandchildren Jill Dornian, Michael Dornian, Adam Zenzeluk and Tylor Zenzeluk; great-granddaughter Jenaya; brother Steve (Helen); sisters Jean Metz, Tina Mahood, Mary Schaible and Evelyn Boyd as well as many other relatives and friends. Dad will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind, caring and generous person with a special sense of humour. Friends and family were very important to him especially his grandchildren. Dad was born and raised at Holdfast, farming there for 60 years before retiring at age 75, when they moved to Regina. Dad will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. ZIEGLER - Matilda Anna (nee Eberts) Ziegler born at Holdfast, Sask., July 16, 1914, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 11, 2005. Our mother, Matilda, was predeceased by her parents Michael and Barbara Eberts, husband Frank, sisters Annie, Katherine, Rose, Mary and a brother Anthony. She is survived by one sister Florence Ziegler, daughters: Veronica (Colin) Jacobsen and grandchildren: Heather (Dwaine) Smith; Laura (Rob) Sceviour; and Nicolle Jacobsen; daughter: Dolores (Donald) Ackerman; grandchildren: Darla (Kevin) Leach, Donovan Ackerman; daughter Dianna (Victor) deKorompay; grandchildren: Danielle, Alanna and Nevin deKorompay; five great grandchildren: Derek and Chantal Smith and Conner, Madeline and Ella Sceviour. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and numerous family and friends. Matilda was a great homemaker, an avid gardener who cherished friends and family gatherings.
