ALLAN - Helen Annie (nee Perry) passed away in Davidson Health Center May 19, 2008 where she had been a resident since August 2005. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Catherine and James Perry; her husband, Ken in 1996; her sister, Alma Bloxom; and brother-in-law, Cy Bloxom. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Gwen), Mac (Connie) and Perry (Jeannie); and grandchildren, Rob, Susan, Laura; Bev, Chad, Kenny; Derek, Kristi, Tory and Colton; plus great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was born in Saskatoon, October 1, 1918 and took her schooling in Viscount and Saskatoon. She married Ken Allan January 1, 1942 in Toronto; they purchased farmland and moved to the Davidson-Girvin area in 1945. Helen belonged to the Girvin Hospital Aid in her years in the Girvin area, later she enjoyed going to the horse races, watching her grandchildren play hockey, ball and many other sports. Ken and Helen spent many winters in Arizona where they enjoyed playing shuffleboard and cards. They ended their snowbird trips to Arizona in 1993 and stayed home in Davidson watching their grandchildren. Ken passed away in November 1996 and Helen moved to the Davidson Manor shortly after where she enjoyed her time visiting and playing cards. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at The Davidson Community Hall with interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Saskatoon. ANDREAS - Frank Andreas of Davidson, Sask. (formerly of Girvin) age 66 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2001 at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Sask. The passing of Joan Bessey, age 86 years of Saskatoon, SK, occurred on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at St. Paul's Hospital. Joan is lovingly remembered by her sons, George Bessey of Rosetown and Cameron (Sylvie) Bessey of Odessa; grandchildren, Tracey (Cory) Uhrich, Dana (Steve) Bergerman, Greg (Katja) Bessey, Shane Bessey, Tikka Bessey and Tali Bessey; great-grandchildren, Josh, Brayden, and Brienne Uhrich, Hunter, Hannah, and Baily Bergerman and Simone Bessey. She is also survived by brothers, Ed (Eleanore) Lipinski, Joe (Helen) Lipinski; sisters, Millie (Gordon) Mitchell and Doris Thurmeier; as well as sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Ralph) Mills and Amy Bessey; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George Bessey Sr.; parents, Mary and Anton Lipinski; and daughter-inlaw, Terry Bessey; brothers-in-law, Fred, Gordon, and Lloyd Bessey, Leo Thurmeier; and sisters-in-law, Madeline and Erma Bessey. Joan was born in Grayson, Saskatchewan and spent her childhood years on a farm near Markinch. When her family moved to Girvin, Joan went to work in Bladworth where she met and married George. Joan worked at the Exhibition grounds in a restaurant and at the Queen Street Residence so that George could complete his Bachelor of Education degree. She had a love of antiques and from 1973 to 1978 she instructed classes for the community college board on refinishing and reupholstering old furniture. Joan and George also spent a number of years working with the disabled at the Interlake Human Resources. She truly made a difference. The highlight of Joan's life was time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, bingo and making her own jewelry. She also enjoyed chauffeuring the ladies from St. Volodymyr to and from many places around the city. Joan met some great friends throughout her life. She'll be remembered for her vibrant personality and her fierce independence. A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive). CAMPBELL - Alma Campbell suddenly passed away with family at her side, on Saturday, March 2nd 2002, at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her husband John on August 12th, 2001. She leaves to mourn: children, Duncan Campbell and Dianne (Bryan) Stulberg. She also leaves three grandchildren, James (Kathy), Jeffrey (Shannon) and Catherine. Four great grandchildren Steven, Tyler, Chelsey & Shayne. Alma was born at Earl Grey (1922), married John Campbell in 1946. Together they farmed at Davidson until 1976 and then retired in Moose Jaw. Alma loved entertaining. She would welcome friends and family into their home anytime. Alma greatly cherished these visits. Alma was the monarch of the Campbell family. Her values were strong and deep rooted: compassion, consideration, loving, understanding and always giving, a trooper like no others, she looked after us all. You will be greatly missed, we will think of you always. Our memories will be cherished, until we meet again. CAMPBELL - John, beloved husband of Alma, passed away Sunday August 12th, 2001 at the age of 87. Besides his loving wife he leaves two children, Duncan Campbell and Diane (Bryan) Stulberg. He also leaves three grandchildren, James (Kathy), Jeffrey (Shannon) and Catherine, and four great-grandchildren, Steven, Tyler, Chelsea and Shane. John is survived by one sister, Sarah-Jane, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Neil, and sister Catherine. A World War II veteran, John married Alma in 1946 and devoted his entire life to his family - a more loving and generous father would be impossible to find. John was faced with a long list of very serious medical problems over the past year, but faced them head-on with grace, courage and dignity. Through many trying times of sickness he never wavered or gave into self-pity or sadness, remaining cheerful and optimistic until the end. He had the heart of a warrior. CHURCH - Rodney Robert Church of Girvin, SK, age 59 years, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the University Hospital in Edmonton, AB. Rodney is survived by his loving family, mother, Fay; brother, Clinton (Laura) Church; sisters, Gaye (Gus) Dommash, Maxine Burak and Arlene (Larry) Johnson; 12 nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews. Rodney was predeceased by his father, James Hanley Church; and sister, Heather Rivers. Interment to follow in family plot Girvin Cemetery, Girvin, SK. CLARK - Floyd. With sadness in our hearts, but a lifetime of love and memories to cherish, the family of Floyd Clark announce his peaceful passing at the age of 85 on April 12, 2013 at the Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon. Floyd was born on February 8, 1928 in Davidson, SK to Fred and Bertha Clark. On June 19, 1954 he married the love of his life, MaryAnne Jorgenson from Regina. They farmed in the Girvin/Craik rural community where they were blessed to raise their family. In 2009 they moved to Saskatoon where Floyd enjoyed the company of many friends who came for visits and also watching his favorite TV channel "Oasis" ... or as he always called it "Osoyoos". Floyd was a quiet, gentle and patient man. Farming was his passion but his greatest pride and joy were his family whom he cherished deeply. He blessed our lives with his kind heart and generous spirit. Through difficult times, there was never a harsh word or any self-pity, only endurance, strength of character and expressions of thankfulness and joy, always being a living example of love and kindness. The way he lived his life is the legacy he left us: He was steadfast and committed to his family and had a personal relationship and strong belief in a loving God. He never lost his great sense of humour, even to the end. Floyd and MaryAnne spent many winters as snowbirds in Palm Springs and Hawaii. Camping in the summers were also a highlight. He also loved fishing and hunting. Floyd is survived by his loving wife, MaryAnne; his two daughters and their spouses, Marcy (Glenn) Stauffer, Calgary, and Valerie (Bob) Burron, Saskatoon; special nephew Russell (Susan) Melle, Calgary. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chad, Brett and Kristen Stauffer, Bobby and Janelle Burron, Tamara (Royce) Lewis and children Carter, Erica and Tyson; Derek (Jill) Melle and children Caiden and Ava; nephew Lyle; nieces Sherry (Ken) Harvey and Brenda (Tim) Reich; and numerous family members. Age 98 years, passed away peacefully on Friday June 30th., 2006 at the Craik & Dist. Health Care Centre, Craik Sask. Edward is survived by his loving Family: sister Margaret, brother Lester, also nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends, especially Floyd & Mary Anne Clark & family. Edward was predeceased by his parents Arthur & Nellie, sisters Dolly & Lill & brother Don. DOLAN - Richard Joseph "Dick" Dolan, March 24, 1936 - November 26, 2006. Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Cousin and faithful friend. Dick Dolan passed away peacefully at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton, BC at the age of 70. He fought his cancer with grit, humour, courage and grace but succumbed during the evening of November 26, 2006. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Percy and Jessie Dolan, his brother Bob, and his sister Lora. He is survived by his loving wife Maureen (nee Hamre); sons Brad (Barb) and Dale (Cheryl); daughter Deanna (Dean) Hungerford; grandchildren Jonathan (Stephanie), Jenna and Scott; his sister Bev Linnen (George Armstrong) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dick was born in the family home in Girvin, SK and spent most of his childhood there. He attended Girvin School until grade eleven but completed high school at City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon as Senior Watch. Dick had a deep respect for his community and a love of the land that he farmed with his father and brother for over 25 years. After their children left home, he and Maureen retired from farming to fulfill a dream. They moved to a small acreage in the Cariboo district of BC and there, side by side as always, they toiled and nurtured for another 25 years. Their labours resulted in a truly spectacular jewel carved out of this rough and unforgiving land. A gifted athlete and sportsman, avid reader, a man blessed with an abundance of knowledge and common sense, Dick was also a man for whom a handshake was a seal of honour. No work was too hard nor problem too difficult. He had an infectious sense of humour and a marvellous ease with people. His memory for names and faces never ceased to amaze. His friends were friends for life. A memorial service will be held at the Davidson United Church in Davidson, SK on Friday, December 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Diane Eurig presiding. There will be a luncheon to follow. It is the family's intention to commit Dick's ashes to the family plot at the Girvin Cemetery in spring 2007 to join three other generations of the Dolan family. FARNELL - Dorothy (nee Eley). It is with sadness, love and deep appreciation for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Dorothy Farnell our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on Monday, May 1, 2006. Dorothy was born in Girvin, SK on December 17, 1908. She then moved to Bladworth and onto Kelliher where she spent most of her childhood and enjoyed many close friendships. She attended the University of Saskatchewan where she and her sister Evelyn were among the first graduation class of the College of Education. She then moved on to teach in Debuc, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Farnell. They were married in Kelliher in 1932. She had great enthusiasm for outdoor living, and her children recall the many picnics she organized and summers spent at the lake. She loved gardening, fishing, playing tennis and golfing. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing cards with the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Joe had a wide circle of friends, many of whom formed part of the Arizona snowbird group. Good friends and caring neighbors wherever they lived formed the fabric of their everyday lives together. They enjoyed many trips together. One highlight of their life together was a world cruise that gave them an unforgettable experience. Dorothy was a charter member of the Prince Albert Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for 66 years, holding a number of offices in that organization. She also supported her own children in their activities as they were growing up, becoming in turn a leader in Girl Guides and CGIT. In her busy life, she found time for church activities, and was a member of the UCW. Her family remembers the many pies, cinnamon buns, and casseroles that went out of the house for one good cause or another! Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Jean (Gus) Nahachewsky and Ellen (Art) Gillies; her grandchildren, Lori (David) Hlady and Rick (Dalene) Newton, Jaret, Tyler and Marco Gillies; her greatgrandchildren, Kaleigh, Mark and Drew Hlady, Rob, Tom and Julia Newton; and her sister, Ruth Cullen. She was very fond of her nieces and nephews, Judi Schebel, Barb Yanko, Diane Magnus, Bob, Vic and Don Farnell and their families. Dorothy is predeceased by her much-loved husband, Joseph; her parents, Ida and Robert Eley; her sister, Evelyn Farnell; and her grandson, Joel Gillies. FELLS - Robert George Fells of Saskatoon, Sask. (formerly of Girvin, SK) age 83 years passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 10th., 2003 at Saskatoon Hospital. FINDLAY - Ian (March 20, 1947 - October 12, 2012). Ian passed away October 12, 2012 after a 25 year fight with heart disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and George Findlay. He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey, and his five children, Scott, Heather, Neville, Sophia, and Lillian and one grandchild, Trevor. He is also survived by his five siblings, Doreen (Michael) Heney, Lynn Martin, Cheryl (Arthur) Lyste, D. Bruce Findlay, Robert Findlay, and all of their children. Ian grew up on the family farm near Girvin, SK and was an outstanding student and an athlete in school. He moved to Saskatoon where he joined the police force when he was 20. He was a proud member of the Saskatoon City Police Association for 31 years He was previously married and had three children. Ian later met and married the love of his life, Audrey. Together, they had two girls of whom Ian was so very, very proud. Ian was never happier than when he met and married Audrey. He loved being surrounded by his girls - they were the highlight of his life. He was so proud of Sophia and Lilly as they continued their education. After retirement, Ian and Audrey pursued their many artistic endeavours. His wood carvings are treasured by those who received them. Ian also enjoyed being an active volunteer within the community of Saskatoon and Corman Park. He will be so deeply missed by friends and family. Ian's family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to all the friends, neighbors, paramedics and hospital staff and doctors who fought to save his life. Thank you always. Thank you also to Dr's A. Harrington, P. Weckworth and J. Stein as well as the numerous cardiology staff at RUH who have given the very best of care throughout Ian's lifetime. A private memorial will be held at a later date. GOODMANSON - William "Bill" David, passed away suddenly on Friday Feb. 8, after a short illness. He was loved by all and will be missed by his loving wife Doreen; their son Derek (Kathleen) Goodmanson and grand-children Justin and Mallory, of Lloydminster, AB; and daughter Chantal (Curtis Gill) and grand-children Landon and McKenna, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He also leaves to mourn sisters Trudy (Laurie), Joyce (Russell), brothers Ken, Ron (Connie) and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by father Arni in 2000, mother Jane in 1993, and sister Nancy in 2001. Bill was born on June 23, 1938 in Girvin, Saskatchewan, the eldest of six children. He attended school in Girvin and later started his career with the Bank of Montreal in Davidson in 1959. His banking days took him to various locations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba including: Maple Creek, Estevan, Brandon, Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Beausejour, Carnduff, Saskatoon, and North Battleford. He retired from the bank in Estevan in 1996 but continued to do consulting work with the bank for several years. Bill was involved in various community groups in Estevan including: the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, Sunrise Futures, Estevan National Exhibition Center, and the United Church. Bill enjoyed participating in the community and took on local leadership roles as President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. He was active at the provincial level of the Chamber of Commerce as well. Bill and Doreen relocated to Saskatoon in November of 2001. Over the years Bill enjoyed participating in many sports including hockey, baseball, golf and curling. He enjoyed watching sports from the professional level to his grandchildren starting their sporting endeavours. He was an ardent Estevan Bruins fan, but was never able to fix the refereeing...He also enjoyed sports card collecting and could often be found in line at McDonald's waiting for another order of fries and the latest trading card set. He enjoyed reading and writing - especially for children. His grand-children will enjoy his "Sammy Snail" stories for many years. Bill was above all, a family man who was willing to drop everything to support his immediate and extended family in times of need. Though he is sadly missed, he had a good and full life, recently sharing a European vacation with his wife, and many happy gatherings with family and friends. His spirit and example in life will continue to guide those who knew him. In the words of a close family friend: "Bill was such a kind gentle and loving man. He never had a harsh word for anyone, well perhaps only for a hockey goalie that let in an easy goal or a Roughrider that fumbled an easy catch. But for his fellow travellers on the journey of life, he had no harsh words. He always felt people were doing the best job they could do." The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at McClure United Church (corner of McKercher Dr. and Taylor St., Saskatoon). GRIFFITH - Grayce Margaret (nee Reid). Wife, mother, teacher, needleworker extraordinaire and an unwitting environmentalist, died April 7, 2008 in Sudbury at age 98. Born in Girvin and raised in Kindersley, SK to Maude and Clem Reid, she was the eldest in a rowdy family of six children, now all deceased. One of her preteen memories was witnessing the worldwide flu epidemic on 1918. Her school was used as the funeral parlor. Each morning before she and her siblings went out to play together wearing masks, the iceman delivered an ice block to their home and reported on the latest neighbor taken to the school house. Then, she said, one day there were no more clip cloppings of the horsedrawn ice cart and everyone knew the iceman was taken. After attending Normal school in Saskatoon, she taught in a one room school until meeting the love of her life, Stuart. Together they raised Stuart Jr. (Lucero), now of Puerto Rico, John (Shirley) Washington DC, Heather Meagher (Wilfrid) Cobble Hill, BC, Patricia Strauss (Hans) of Sudbury and Peter (Elinor) Chappaqua, NY ---often being transferred by Imperial Oil Ltd. to Humboldt and Yorkton, SK and then Nova Scotia, Regina and Toronto. Three years ago she entered Southwinds Retirement Home in Sudbury to live near her youngest daughter, Patricia and kept connected to life with her daughter's daily visits, luncheon outings, poetry readings, discussions about politics and books and many visits from her adult children, 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren scattered throughout the world. Her five children benefited by the "quiet tenor of her ways". She loved her home and decorated it from bargain centres with verve and style. She saw frugality as a virtue and instead of buying new drapes when the one-armed paperhanger changed the famly's color decor in their old home in Regina, she removed all the gold dye from the heavy drapes and redyed them a deep wine color. It mattered little to her when the aged, British India rug was thread-bare in places. Innate wisdom told her about carbon footprints before it became a part of pop culture. Her children sported handknit sweaters, chesterfield cushions and a favorite stool carried original designed needlepoint. Children felt her encouragement when competing in hockey or tennis tournaments although she was too nervous to attend games. Friends and family admired her work in church/school fundraising and volunteering for the Toronto Children's Aid Society. Loving stylish clothes from the time her father owned the general store in Kindersley and she was the perfect sample size, she always donated one outfit if another entered her closet. One day when her daughter told of a impecunious, bi-polar patient on her hospital ward, she went to her closet and found a new skirt and blouse and said," Take this to her. She needs it more than I do." The gift was received in one of that patient's manic phases so was doubly appreciated. In the last month of her life her daughter saw her distress at wearing hospital garb so cut elegant nightgowns down the back and applied satin ties---one of her many efforts to maintain her dignity. When her beloved Stuart died just before their 80th birthdays in 1989, she declared it a 'monstrous tragedy' as he was her constant companion and she knew her life would be transformed. It was. Another disaster followed a few years later --losing her eyesight to macular degeneration when her favorite pastime was reading. But she soon adapted and was an avid library and CNIB customer for their books on tape and followed political discussions on CBC radio. Complaining was for the weak and timid. Her courage, humor, lucidity drew people to her. Six weeks ago, she fell and broke her hip and never left the Sudbury Regional Hospital. She seldom admitted pain. The head nurse came to say, "I was told to get down and meet the remarkable Mrs. Griffith". Having lost her voice strength possibly due to mini strokes according to her neurologist son, she faintly uttered, "I'm glad to meet you and your outfit is most becoming." Roberta who worked on the floor above came to work early every day and took lunch breaks just to be with this proud, dignified woman honed on the stark, brutal beauty of the Prairies but tempered by its warm people. The funeral for Grayce was held in Sudbury on April 12 at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. HODGSON - Arthur. It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Hodgson, age 87 years, announces his passing on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008. Arthur was predeceased by his loving wife Winnifred of 46 years. He is survived by his son, Arthur (Jannette) Robert; granddaughter, Jezlyn of Saskatoon, SK; twin sister, Vera Siepp of Vancouver, BC; nieces, June, Monica and families; nephews, George, Richard and families; friend, Yvonne Schmidt. Arthur was born in England on April 14th, 1920 and moved to the farming community of Nokomis in the thirties. He joined the military in 1942 and was honourably discharged in 1945. In 1954, he joined the Canadian National Railway and married Winnifred in 1957. They moved to Girvin, then to Kenaston and finally to Dundurn in 1969. He retired from the railway in 1981. Arthur led a simple life, but was always on the go. There was no obstacle too big for him. He was a devoted father who taught us all the meaning of never giving up on anything. He was every animals' friend and very loving towards his own pet dogs. He will be sadly missed. She came from a large family and grew up on a farm near Girvin, SK. She moved to Regina where she met and married Archie Huber on August 6, 1957. Her passion was her family along with gardening and sewing. If she had any spare time you could find her out weeding her garden and planting flowers. When the night fell, she was sewing. Many of her treasured quilts were sewn for new babies and anniversaries. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, Eldon and Iva Harrod; her loving husband Archie Huber; three sisters, numerous relatives and close friends. Doris is survived by her five children, Rod (Cheryl) Huber and their children, Kyle, Shawn (Christa), Sheena (Matthew) and their children Jovi and Ranger; Karen (Stephen) Ryan and their children Brenden and Jenn (Dustin) and their son Carter; Cheryl and her children Quinn and Declan; John and his children Laurin and Lukus; Scott and his children Jackson and Samuel. Please join our family to celebrate the life of Edna Leeper. She was born Edna Anna Rieck in Wilmer, Sask., on July 22, 1930 to immigrant parents from Germany. At age 10 the family moved to Saskatoon. In 1951 she met and married Harvey Leeper, started their life together in Grayburn, Sask. and then Rowletta, Sask. They then moved to Girvin, Sask. where Harvey was the elevator agent for UGG and raised four daughters. In 1979 Harvey passed and Edna remained in Girvin for five years. She then moved to Saskatoon and then Winnipeg, Man. to live with her sister Evelyne. In 1991, Kathy, her oldest daughter moved her to Stony Plain, Alta., area where they shared an acreage home until returning to Saskatchewan in 2007. Edna and Kathy shared another acreage home north of Saskatoon until her passing in Rosthern Hospital on July 4, 2014. She loved gardening and her flowers, crocheting, reading and making her house a home. Her favourite birds in her yard were finches and hummingbirds. She is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anna Rieck; four brothers, Heinz, Hans, Guenther and Walter Jr.; her loving husband Harvey; and her favourite pet dog Keeko. Left to mourn and miss her are four daughters, Kathy Leeper, Carol (Ron) Reiniger, June Titley and Claire (Dale) Bennett; one brother, Werner; two sisters, Evelyne Parno and Alice Rushinko; three grandchildren, Clayton (Whitney) Markson, Chad Markson/Reiniger and Alexander Reiniger; four great-grandchildren, Zachery Markson, Dutch Markson, Liam Marskon and Finn Markson; and her two pets, Lily (mini dachshund) and Mr. Tweeter (canary). It is with great sadness that Edna's family announces her sudden passing on April 24, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Edna was born near Girvin, SK on January 21, 1920 to Geier and Lucy Switzer. Edna excelled at school and after graduating earned certification as a registered nurse in 1942 from the Regina General Hospital. She also earned a postgraduate certificate in operating room procedure from St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. She had a long nursing career spanning 53 years, eventually retiring in Regina at the age of 75 in 1995. She enjoyed an active and busy life after retirement. She was cherished by her family and many friends. They knew her as a kind, intelligent, compassionate person with a ready smile and a positive outlook on life. Her strong character helped her through many difficult situations and inspired us all. She was charming, had great vitality, and a zest for life. She was the heart and soul of our family. Edna was predeceased by her dear sisters Agnes Stradesky and Evelyn Thompson, loving husbands Bert Force and Leland Nord. She is lovingly remembered by her son Derrick Force (Sandra Swan), her grandchildren Dawn (Kurt) and Jason (Christine), and her daughter Heather Nord (Paul Snell), her sister June Martin and sisters-in-law Beth Logan (Bruce), Shirley Nord and Lillian Hamill. SCHULTZ - Evelyn Jean 'Ev' (nee Mohr) August 1, 1938 - November 13, 2009. Ev passed away peacefully at home. Her strong will to live helped her resist cancer for a year and a half. She lives in the loving memories of her husband of 51 years, Harold, and their family: Eileen Gudmundson (Garth), Adam and Leah; Michael (Michelle), Brooke and Roxanna; Christopher (Liane), Nicholas and Sophia; John (Darlene), Emma and Molly; and sister, Eileen Carlson (Wayne); nieces, Christine Jantzen, Karen Carlson, and great niece, Alexa Jantzen. Ev was born in Neudorf to Lydia and Chris Mohr. She grew up in Girvin, Pennant, Leask and Kinistino, moving often as her dad was a grain buyer and lumber yard agent. It was in Kinistino that Ev and Harold met, and they were married April 5th, 1958. Harold's career in education saw them move from Kinistino to Melfort, and finally Saskatoon. Wherever they lived they were actively involved in their community and the United Church. One of her proudest accomplishments was completion of the CNA program in 1973 and some of her favorite working memories were of the days in the normal nursery at RUH. She could bundle up and rock any baby to sleep! She was especially happy to have been able to give all her grandchildren their first bath. In 1975 Ev assisted in the construction of the family log cabin at East Trout Lake, and in retirement years she worked tenaciously for the East Trout Lake Cabin Owners Assoc., specifically the shoreline erosion project. Harold's profession enabled them to enjoy many unique travel experiences, in particular two trips to India and several years in La Ronge, which resulted in lifelong friendships. Summer holidays in early years were spent trailering to Penticton and the Maritimes. Family vacations in Florida, Hawaii, skiing at Whitefish and Sunshine, and year after year at East Trout Lake created a strong and meaningful family bond. We'll miss mom organizing our photo albums and kitchen cupboards, her loud housecleaning music (Rod Stewart and Kenny Rogers), singing Star of the East at Christmas, and the yearly birthday phone call at the exact time you were born, day or night! A Celebration of Ev's life will be held on Saturday, November 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin's United Church. SPROAT - Isla Jean Thompson-Sproat of Saskatoon, SK died peacefully on December 27, 2008 after a long battle with brain cancer. She was 57 years old. She is survived by her husband George Sproat; her children, Stephanie, Chad (Bret), and Erin; her brother, Bill Riecken (Janice) and her sister, Linda Shier (Len); her granddaughter, Sophie Isla; her step-dad Dave Boyce; and her extended family, son, Ryan Sproat and grandson, Logan. She was predeceased by her mother Helen Boyce, father Chet Riecken, and her extended son, Dale Sproat. Isla was born in Davidson, SK and grew up on a farm near Girvin. Her kids remember well the stories of holding pillows up against the windows during the horrible Prairie storms, and the long walks to school uphill both ways. Isla's friends and family from Davidson remained close to her until her last days. But small town life was not meant to be for Isla. She got married and moved to Cowtown, where she and Stan Thompson had their 3 amazing and gorgeous kids (who coincidentally happen to be the authors of this notice). After several years the family yearned for the cold and wind of the Prairies, so they all picked up and moved to Saskatoon. Shortly thereafter Isla fulfilled her dream of completing her Education degree. From then on she dedicated herself to improving the lives of children with special needs. She had a gift, and it simply is not enough to say that she touched the lives of many. She was recognized by the parents of her students when she was nominated as an Educator of Distinction. Not only did Isla dedicate herself to her students she dedicated herself to her children. She is considered to be the best mommiekins in the world by her kids, who she always felt were her greatest achievement. She never missed a special moment, nor a sad or difficult one. She led by example, showing them how life should be lived and she taught them everything they need to know about how to do it right. Eventually, George came along. The kids thought what the heck, why is this guy getting all the attention. But it quickly made sense once they got to know him. Along with George came Ryan, Dale and Hanna, who completed the family. Isla was radiant. Her motto was Live, Laugh, Love. George and Isla loved to spend time at the lake. George took Isla on her first fishing trip, but she ended up showing him a thing or two! They found joy in dancing, camping, cycling, going for drives, walks, spending time with their many friends, and just being in love. Isla took great pleasure in letting George listen to her talk, and so did George. Isla's compassion and selflessness set her apart. Her smile lit up a room, and wherever she went she left with a new friend or two. She gave so much love, and there are many who will miss her. We all wish her peace, health, happiness and much love on the next leg of her journey. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit and the staff at Circle Drive Alliance care home for their professionalism, kindness and compassion, and for being Isla's friend. STEPHENSON - Phyllis Jemima (nee Low). "Scottie" passed away in her sleep, June 8, 2004, at the Davidson Health Care Centre at the age of 87 years. Phyllis was born in Girvin, SK and spent most of her married life living in Wiseton and Milden, then more recently in Saskatoon and Davidson. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Linley in 1974. She is survived and lovingly remembered by sons Don (Shirley) Stephenson of Bradenton, Florida, Dale (Elaine) Stephenson of Saskatoon, SK; and daughter Sharon (Bernie) Wynder of Calgary, AB; as well as seven grandchildren and spouses; and 11 great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Dorothy McLaren and brother Davey Low. STOREY - Lorne Andrew. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorne on February 24, 2009, at the age of 82. Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Johnstone); his daughters, Ione Irvine of Calgary, Alberta and Jennifer (Eugene) Thompson of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren, Veronica (Jim) McKitrick of Kelowna, Andrea Thompson of Kelowna and Michael Thompson of Saskatoon; greatgrandchildren, Rosie McKitrick and Kyler Thompson of Kelowna. He is also survived by two sisters, Milan Puckett of Davidson and Lois Podratz of Saskatoon; and two brothers, Barrie (Bonnie) of Calgary; Ranald (Irene) of Regina; and sister-in-law, Ethel Johnstone of Lloydminster; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Lorne was born on October 8, 1926, at the family farm east of Girvin, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Eleanor Storey; and son-in-law, Thomas Irvine. Lorne came from a farming family and farming was the focus of his life. He started working the land with his father as a teenager and continued to farm in the Girvin and Davidson areas until 2008. He started a successful custom harvesting operation in 1969, and made the annual harvest run starting in Oklahoma, and working northwards for the Saskatchewan harvest for over 30 years. He was a proud member of the Canadian Custom Harvesters Association. He learned carpentry from his father and cousin Bus Storey. The family home, shop, quonset, and bins on the farm south of Girvin, were all constructed by Lorne. He did carpentry work in the winters for many years in the Girvin and Davidson areas. In 1977, Lorne and Dorothy began spending the winter months in San Diego. He greatly enjoyed the snow bird life, making many good friends, golfing and soaking up the sun by the hot tub. The Family wishes to thank Dr. Keith and staff of Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Dolan's Support Services of Saskatoon, and the staff of the Davidson Health Centre for their skilled and compassionate care over the last few months. Lorne will be laid to rest in the Storey Family plot, at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon. A brief interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28. TAYLOR - Edna (nee Phillips) of the Victoria Park Personal Care Home and formerly of Tugaske, SK, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2007 after a brief stay at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Regina. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Cora Phillips, one brother Edward and two sisters Eva and Ivy, her husband Reg, sisters in law, Dola, Lily, and Clara, brothers in law, Bob, Alex, John and Gilbert, and daughter in law, Bobbie. She is survived by sons Wilfred (Irene), and Bill (Gaye) and daughter Ruby (Don) Wood, brother in law Frank (Lois) Taylor, 5 grandchildren, Megan Taylor (fiancee Bradly Mundy), Ron Wood, Lana (Bryan) Sorsenson, Dallas (Ryan Williams) Taylor, Chad (Susie) Taylor and 7 great grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. Edna was born at Girvin, Sask. in 1918 and lived on a farm near Tugaske until her husband passed away in 1994 at which time she moved to Regina. She will be sadly missed by her many friends in the Eildon District as well as all of her special friends in Regina who have been so supportive of her during the past 13 years. VILNESS - Iva died peacefully on October 10, 2006 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and is survived by her sons: Herb (Shirley) Vilness of Brownlee; Glenn (Linda) Vilness of Conquest; her daughter, Dorothy (Hugh) Wiggins of Tugaske; and Kathy Vilness of Saskatoon; fourteen grandchildren, thirtyfive great-grandchildren, ten great-greatgrandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mom was born at Girvin in 1910, attended school there and in Craik, then went to Normal School in Regina. While teaching at the Three Buttes School in the Cabri area she met Dad, they were married in 1929. Eight years later the family moved to Tugaske. During the 40's while Dad was overseas she worked part-time in the post office and on his return she clerked full-time at Wiggins Store and later at the local Co-op. She returned to her chosen career of teaching in 1960, retiring in 1974. Chateau St. Michael's became her home in the fall of 2002. Here she made many friends and eagerly participated in the social activities. Mom was a master of words, encouraging her children and grandchildren to read and to use a dictionary. Scrabble games and crossword puzzles were a teaching and learning experience to her. She was also a mathematician, helping her kids and many local high school students to understand the logic and theorems of algebra and trig. She greatly loved the challenge of playing a tough had of Bridge. Gardening was one of her hobbies and with help from the staff and friends at Chateau St. Michael's she maintained a flower garden there for three summers. Mom was a lifelong member of the United Church. Memorials to St. Andrew's United Church at Tugaske, S0H 0B0 would be graciously accepted. WEISS - Vera Mildred passed away peacefully at the UBC Hospital in Vancouver on Wednesday, November 9, 2005. Vera was born March 10, 1923 in Regina, SK and was raised in the Girvin area. After completing the nursing program at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK, she moved east and worked there for a short time. She then went to Vancouver and nursed at St. Vincent Hospital until her retirement. Vera was generous, loving and hospitable; her door and her heart were always open to family and friends. Vera was predeceased by her parents, Lucy and Adam Weiss; brother, Ross; and sister, Clara. She is survived and dearly missed by her best friend and loving sister, Faye; brothers, Gordon (Mert) and Norman (Marilyn). The love and joy of Vera's life were her niece and nephews, Rhonda, Richard, Jim, Ross and their families. Her kindness and great caring for others will be missed by all who knew her. A private family service will occur at a later date. WHITE - Anne Patricia (nee Fisher). It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Pat, on October 9, 2000 at Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon. Pat was born March 17, 1918 near Oakbank, Man. She moved to Moose Jaw with her parents, Robert and Hedwig Fisher, and older brother William. Subsequent moves included Regina, Chamberlain and Liberty. In 1940 she married Eric White. She raised nine children on their farm near Girvin and began her career in hospital housekeeping in Davidson in the 1960's. In 1970, after studying Hospital Housekeeping and Administration by correspondence, she moved to Saskatoon to accept the position of Supervisor of Housekeeping at Sherbrook Nursing Home. From 1972 to 1983 she worked as Director of Housekeeping at Swift Current Union Hospital. After retirement, Pat returned to Saskatoon. Mom took a leadership role in community, professional and political organizations, including the Swift Current and Nutana Chapters of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Liberal Party of Canada, the Swift Current and Saskatoon Housing Authorities, the Council of Women, the Saskatchewan and Canadian Housekeepers' Associations, and the United Church of Canada. During her years of community service, Mom enjoyed the opportunities to travel, to read, and to debate the issues of the day. Later on, her grandchildren became another source of pleasure and pride. We will remember Mom for her keen wit, strength of character, quick humor, compassion, and the ability to relate to others of all ages and circumstances. She spent her life, even the last months caring and concerned for the needs of others. Mom is predeceased by brothers William and Robert, husband Eric, daughter Judith and son Martin.
