BADIUK - David (September 29, 1946 - March 14, 2013). David passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, March 14, 2013. He was born in Yorkton and grew up on the family farm near Buchanan. David attended the Mamornitz country school, then went to SIAST in Moose Jaw and was trained in carpentry. He married Beverley on October 21, 1967 in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canora, SK. He loved gardening and grew lots of tomatoes, made china cabinets and coffee tables and enjoyed watching hockey and football, especially the Chicago Blackhawks. David is survived by his loving wife, Beverley; siblings, George, Mike, John (Kay), Joe (Georgette), Peter (Maria), Doris (John) Teslia and Mary Swystun; sister-in-law Sophie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and of course, his dog Jose. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Irene Badiuk; brother Nick and brother Johnny (in infancy); sisters-in-law Helen and Doreen; and brother-in-law Walter Swystun. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to David. BALAAM - Brenda Beatrice. October 10, 1922 - January 14, 2010 Brenda was born on the family farm near Invermay, Saskatchewan. She took her primary schooling at Mason school #2449; early high school by correspondence through Saskatchewan Correspondence School; Margo and Invermay High Schools. Attending Regina Normal in the summer of 1943 gave Brenda an introduction to teaching. There being a shortage of teachers during World War II, Brenda contracted a position in the Rosa School # 4546 near Kuroki in 1943 and 1944. Her further teaching appointments were: Pretoria School the Friedland School near Aberdeen; Blucher School, Caswell and Victoria Schools, Saskatoon; Tahsis Secondary Tahsis BC, Nakusp Secondary School; UBC assignment to Ghana, West Africa; English/Social studies teacher; Trail Junior Secondary School and J. Lloyd Crowe Senior Secondary School until retirement in 1984. During the teaching years Brenda continued upgrading her own education and in 1960/61 completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Education degree at UBC and doing one additional year of under-graduate studies majoring in English and Social Studies. Citizens of Trail and beyond must pay tribute to a person who has served the community well. Her name is found in loyal servitude to BC Teachers, Canadian Wildlife Federation, Retired Teachers Association, National Action Committee on Status of Women; local ski association; UNICEF, United Church of Canada; Trail United Church; Kootenay Presbytery of the United Church; BC Conference of United Church being named commissioner to General Council of the United Church in 1998; University Women's Association and actively taking part in Federal and Provincial politics. Brenda was predeceased by parents, Elijah and Beatrice; three brothers-in-law, James Jarvis, Bill Gushulak and Alex MacLellan. She is survived by sisters, Marjorie Jarvis, Ruth Gushulak, Jean MacLellan; six nephews, six nieces, 19 great and nine great great nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, January 19, 2009 at the Trail United Church, with Reverend Keith Simmonds officiating. BARTESKI - Sophie (nee Kowaski), widow of Ben Barteski, of Yorkton and formerly of Invermay, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 94 years of age. Sophie Barteski was born on January 17, 1912 in Douglas, Manitoba, the daughter of Jacob and Sophie (nee Kobina) Kowaski. The family then moved to Okla, Saskatchewan where Sophie received her education. As a young girl, Sophie had the weighty responsibility of helping her father raise her younger siblings as her mother died at the age of 33 years. On November 12, 1934, Sophie was united in marriage to Ben Barteski. Together they farmed four miles north of Invermay and raised a family of two daughters and four sons. Sophie and Ben remained on the farm for 40 years until retiring to Yorkton in 1974. They celebrated 57 years together before Ben's passing in June of 1992. Sophie then moved to Victoria Court where she remained until her passing. Sophie was an excellent cook and homemaker. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting. A wiz at playing cards, Sophie's grandchildren have special memories of time spent playing Canasta with Gramma. Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Sophie Kowaski; her brothers, Carl, Mike, Nick, John, Joe and Frank; her husband, Ben and two sons, in infancy. Sophie leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her sons, Ralph (Julie) Barteski, Lawrence (Paulette) Barteski, Ernie (Anna) Barteski, Ron (Janet) Barteski; her daughters, Louise (Joe) Pukal and Margaret (Edward) Palchewich; her twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and her sisters, Ann Lysy and Eleanor Gallent. Sophie will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Friday, May 5, 2006 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Father Basil Chomos officiating. The pianist, Janice Flaman, led the congregation and members of the parish choir in the singing of the hymns. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, May 6, 2006 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Father Basil Chomos officiating. The pianist, Carol Nagy, led the congregation and members of the parish choir in the singing of the hymns. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Sophie's children, Ralph Barteski, Lawrence Barteski, Ernie Barteski, Ron Barteski, Louise Pukal and Margaret Palchewich serving as the casketbearers. BAZOWSKY - Mary Rose (nee Slogotski) November 15, 1939 - September 28, 2006. Mary left us to pass through the eternal gates to meet her beloved Heavenly Mother and Father. She battled cancer for two years and spent the last five weeks in Palliative Care with her family by her side. Mary was born in Buchanan, Sask. and at age 1 she moved with her parents to Saskatoon. She attended St. Mary's and completed her education at Bedford Road Collegiate. Mary worked at the Sanatorium and then at St. Joseph's Home where she was a nurse's aide for 31 years. She married Jerry in 1959. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul UCWL. Mom loved long walks, movies, gardening and took pride in her perfection of the "perogie "! After her retirement she spent her time volunteering at the hospitals, doing Spiritual Care. She loved going for her Iced Cappuccino and spending time with friends. Family was very important to mom and she treasured her children and grandchildren. Mary had a deep devotion to her Mother Mary and her church. Special thanks to Dr. Stakiw, Nadine and all the nurses in the Palliative Care Unit for their loving care. Also a special thanks to Ruth, a real angel, who sang mom comforting songs before she died. Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carleen Robison; son, Larry (Danielle) Bazowsky; grandchildren, Sierra, Noah and Halle; sister, Jean Haley; brother, Frank Slogotski; as well as several aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Nellie Slogotski; sister, Elizabeth Popowich and her niece, Jennifer Popowich. The Prayer Service will be held on Monday, October 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 9:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny as the celebrant. Both services will be celebrated from St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (1202-11th St. E). BIBLOW - Helen (nee Dutchak) passed away peacefully, at the age of 92 years, early in the morning of December 13th with family present. Helen was born on the farm south of Tiny, SK on July 26, 1916. She was the 5th of seven children born to George and Dora (Terlesky) Dutchak. Helen took her education at Wysla School, and recollected that school started in April and ended at Christmas each year because the school couldn't be heated properly in the cold winter months. On November 19th,1933, Helen married Peter Biblow at the Drobot Church. They bought a farm north of Buchanan where they lived for the next 37 years. While on the farm, they raised five children, George, Ivan, Elaine, Dave and Donna. Along with her husband Peter, Helen was involved in the organization and building of the St. John the Baptist, Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Buchanan. Helen was also a member of the Ukrainian Women's Association serving as president for several years. In 1970, they retired from the farm and moved to Yorkton. After her `retirement' to Yorkton, she ran a pizza restaurant and then cooked for a few years at the lunch counter in the Metropolitan. Helen was a great cook and everyone, whether family or friends, always enjoyed her meals and her baking. Helen loved a houseful of company and the visiting or card-playing that inevitably went along with it. In later years in Yorkton, Helen and Peter were part of a regular coffee group that met every morning at McDonalds. She was especially happy to have some of her children and their families come along so she could show them off. Helen's last home in Yorkton was at Independent Manor where she made many new friends and really enjoyed the social aspect that came with living there. Helen was also a very active member of the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton and continued her involvement with the Ukrainian Women's Association helping with all the church catering. In 2005, she was honoured by this Association for 60 years of service. In 2006, Helen moved to Saskatoon first to a private care home and then to Stensrud Lodge. As with everyone who knew her, the staff at Stensrud greatly enjoyed her spirit and sense of humour, and were instrumental in helping make this her home. She was also well beloved by Tigger, the resident cat, who got special treats whenever he visited her room. Helen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Peter in 2002; her son, Ivan; her sisters, Mary Leson and Anne Jurick; her brothers, Nick, John, Bill and Alex Dutchak; and her son-in-law, Vern Griffiths. Helen is survived by her children, son, George (Christine) Biblow; daughter, Elaine Griffiths; son, Dave (Laurie) Biblow; daughter, Donna Biblow; daughter-in-law, Heather McDougall; 12 grandchildren, Zane, Sheldon, Duane, Lyle, Suzanne, Shelly, Sharon, Shaun, Dean, Duane, Kara, Glenys; and 22 great-grandchildren. Prayers will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton, SK on Tuesday December 16th at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 17th at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following the service. BOSOVICH - Phyllis Ann (nee Berezowski) March 17 1949 - July 23, 2006. Phyllis, age 57, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side at St. Paul's Hospital. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Eugene; children, Quinton (Candace), Laurie (Steven) Ernst, Dominic (Chantelle), Tanya (John) Schnurr, Nathan (Candice), and seven grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by her brother, Ken Berezowski and sister, Sharon Sterzuk. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Ann Berezowski. Phyllis was born in Foam Lake, SK and raised in Sheho, SK. On May 19th, 1967 she married Eugene Bosovich of Rama, SK where they remained for several years before moving to Saskatoon, SK with their children. Phyllis was a caring and giving individual and always there for her family whenever needed. Phyllis had a heart of gold and a voice that everyone knew and heard. The Resurrection Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 27th at 1:30 p.m. from St. Phillip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave) with Rev. Monsignor Len Morand as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date. BOURGET - Eileen Maude (nee Pierce) December 1, 1914 - February 4, 2009. Eileen Bourget passed away February 4, 2009 at Porteous Lodge at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her three sons, Wayne (Carole), Maurice (Paulene), and Keith (Georgeanne), all of Saskatoon; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and eleven great great grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers-inlaw, Raymond Bourget (Lorraine) of Vancouver, BC, Rene Bourget (Joan) of Vernon, BC; one sister-in-law, Rae Bourget of Sudbury ON; as well as many nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1993; her brothers, Norman in 1996, and Jack in 2006. Eileen was born December 1, 1914 at Invermay SK to John D Pierce and Maude Pierce (nee Page) the youngest of three children. In 1920 she moved with her family to Lintlaw, SK where she took schooling. In April of 1937 she married Arthur Bourget. Together they worked on a ranch at Margo until returning to the Lintlaw area to farm. In 1974 they moved to Saskatoon. In April of 2008 due to ill health Eileen moved to Porteous Lodge where she was residing until her passing. The Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave. N) on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. BRAUN - Agnes Margaret (nee Musty) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Home on Wednesday, October 13, 2005, just a week after her 90th birthday. Born Agnes Margaret Musty on October 8, 1915 at Lake Lenore Saskatchewan, she attended school there and later lived with her husband Raymond Martin Braun in Invermay, Lake Lenore, Pleasantdale, Saskatoon and Victoria, BC. She was an active churchgoer, volunteering many hours at St. Paul's Cathedral in Saskatoon. In earlier years she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family (and at a Pleasantdale family restaurant and meat market) as well as sewing, embroidering and housekeeping. Following her return to Saskatoon in 1984 she cared for a number of children, whom she adored, and eventually retired to her pastimes. She was an excellent and avid bowler and treasured her seniors' bowling trips and all the trophies she accumulated. Her travels took her to Europe (Germany and Belgium) on two occasions and to many points in the United States and Canada. Family was very important to her and she made frequent visits to Calgary and Victoria to spend time with them. Margaret enriched the lives of many who knew her and she will be fondly missed by her friends and family. Margaret is survived by three daughters and two sons, Antoinette Kowalchuk (Victor), Lavern Chubak (Peter), Chris Hanselmann, Floyd Braun (Donna) and Lyle Braun; grandchildren, Marianne, Dean and Cindy Kowalchuk, Duane Chubak, Curtis, Cathy, Calvin and Clifford Hanselmann, Shawna Braun, and Nicole and Michelle Braun; one sister, Veronica Pickel; as well as several great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Musty; siblings, Magdalene, Loretta, Christine, Louise and Hubert; grandchildren, Catherine Gail Hanselmann, Cheryl Kowalchuk; son-in-law, Carl Hanselmann; and by her spouse, Raymond Martin Braun. BREZINSKI - Marion Andrew was born June 6, 1929, in the Invermay District to Michael and Anna (Nazar) Brezinski. He was the 7th child of thirteen. Marion spoke fondly of 1939 as a very memorable year in his life because it was then that he received his First Holy Communion at St. Peter & Paul Church, Dobrowody. Lone Spruce Country School was where Marion received his formal education while being raised on the family farm. At a church function at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Country Church in the spring of 1952, Marion met Betty (Albina) Leona Soloski of Buchanan. Father Mandecka united them in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony on October 20, 1952, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Buchanan. Together with his wife, Marion farmed the homestead for 10 years. At this time Marion moved his family to "Section 27" where he and Betty (with the help of family and friends of course) built a house and developed a farmyard site from ground up. Marion's life was his family. He and Betty were blessed with six children: Cecilia (1953), David (1956), Gerald (1958), Lydia (1963), Monica (1964) and James (1970). God and family came first for Marion - even before his farm. When Sunday came around, it was The Lord's Day. This meant that not one bit of unnecessary work ever got done on this day. It was church in the morning and visiting after that. Immediately, after supper every evening (even before the dishes) everyone in Marion's house would kneel for the Family Rosary. He was a firm believer of "The Family that Prays Together, Stays Together". Marion farmed for 40 years - raising his family on four quarters of land that he progressively developed. He had a mixed farm and at one time milked as many as 28 cows. In between farming, Marion also enjoyed being a school bus driver for 15 years and he did serve as a trustee on the Canora School Division Board for 9 years. Music always interested Marion. He loved to sing and he played the organ in church and accordion in an orchestra. Traveling was always a joy for Marion. Very often after haying was done, Marion would say, "The July clouds are calling me to the mountains"! He enjoyed going on pilgimages and he also traveled to Vancouver, the Eastern Canadian provinces, Detroit, Florida and Hawaii. His travels were always with family or to see family. In 1992 the family farm was sold and two years later due to failing health, Marion, together with Betty, moved to Yorkton, Calgary, and then back to Yorkton. On September 24, 1999, Marion was admitted to the Nursing Home. He lived there until his passing on November 11, 2007. Marion leaves to treasure his memory his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty; his six children: Cecilia, David, Gerald, Lydia, Monica and James and their spouses, 23 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his sisters and brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, 5 Godchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Parastas was held on Friday, November 16th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko officiating. Responses were led by Ed Pindus and hymns sung by the Fetsch Family. Funeral Mass was celebrated according to the Traditional Latin Rite on Saturday, November 17th at St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Dobrowody District with Father Gerard Rusak as the Celebrant. The responses to the mass were led by Our Lady of Fatima Parish Choir, Welwyn under the direction of Mr. Jacques Saurette. Serving at the services as altarboys were Marion's grandsons, Michael Brezinski, Jason Sliva, Eric Sliva, Timothy Sliva and Gregory Dutchak as cross bearer. Rosary before each of the services was led by Marion's family. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with David Brezinski, Gerald Brezinski, James Brezinski, Dwain Brezinski, Garth Sliva and Kevin Sliva serving as the casket bearers. CARLSON - Ruth Alfrida (nee Erickson) passed away September 28, 2003 at age 85. Beloved wife of the late Hjalmar Carlson of Buchanan, Ruth leaves to cherish her memory four sons and two daughters, Louise (John) MacPherson of Edmonton, Randy (Elaine) of White City, Elaine (Leslie) Sackney of Lethbridge, Herb (Sarah) of Buchanan, Leslie (Cynthia) of Buchanan, and Lyndon (Maryellen) of Regina; nine grandchildren, Blair MacPherson (Marge), Faith MacPherson (Tony), Kevin Carlson (Kathy), Trevor Carlson (Carla), Eric Sackney, Kari-Lynn Sackney, Leif Carlson (Brenda), Annamarie Carlson, and Kayla Carlson; seven great grandchildren and one sister, Nan Potter of Castor, Alberta; as well as sisters-in-law Bernice Erikson of Regina and Margaret Erickson of Saskatoon, Thorsten and Mabel Carlson of Saskatoon, Sten and Betty Carlson of San Francisco, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents Erik and Jenny Erickson of Buchanan, and four brothers Bertil, Henry, Einar and Edwin. Ruth was born near Buchanan on November 27, 1917. She married Hjalmar Carlson in June, 1940. They lived and worked and raised their family on a farm near Buchanan. In the fall of 1976, they moved into Buchanan where she resided until February, 2001, when she moved to Embury Heights in Regina, where she quickly made many new friends. Her last year was spent with her daughters Louise in Edmonton and Elaine in Lethbridge. Ruth was very involved with the church from early in her life, and it was an important part of who she was. Working with her many friends to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief was a frequent task that gave her much joy. Singing was something she enjoyed every day whether alone or as part of a church choir. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Buchanan on Friday, October 3, at 2p.m. CARLSON - Thorsten. The family of Thorsten Carlson is saddened to announce his passing at Saskatoon on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Thorsten is survived by his wife, Mabel; his children, Jeffrey (Katarina), Richard (Trang) and Wendy; as well as his brother, Sten (Betty). Thorsten was born to Per and Evalina Carlson in St. Paul Minnesota on December 7, 1917. He was the youngest of his brothers John, Sten and Hjalmar and sister, Edith. His family soon moved to Fort William and eventually settled on the family farm in the Buchanan area. He farmed there with his three brothers, John, Sten and Hjalmer until the 1950s when he and his wife, Mabel moved to Saskatoon. Thorsten was involved in the floor covering industry originally as an installer and then as a local retail sales manager until he retired. He was always involved in his church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. His love of music stayed with him to his last days. There will be a quiet service for family and friends on Thursday, April 1, 2010. On January 14, 2007 after a brief illness Polly Chernoff, age 83 years, passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital. Polly was born on December 22, 1923 at Buchanan, SK. She was married to Fred Chernoff in 1945. Their son Dan was born in 1942. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Fred and son, Dan. Polly is survived by her loving family, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Chernoff of Air Ronge, SK; grandchildren, Tracey (Terry) Giesbrecht of Brandon, MB, Mark (Michelle) Darroch of Winnipeg, MB, Blair Chernoff of Eastern Canada, Kirk Darroch of Manitoba, Grace (Shaun) Bergsveinson of Air Ronge, SK, Stephen (Josee) Haynes of Saskatoon, SK; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Wishlow of Toronto, ON, Elizabeth Orford (Carl) of Winnipeg, MB; brother, Lawrence (Lori) Demosky of Calgary, AB; and numerous other relatives. CHOPTY - Josephine Elisabeth (nee Brezinski), widow of Walter Chopty of Churchbridge and formerly the Invermay district passed away on Monday April 1, 2002 at the Langenburg Special Care Home. She was eighty-one years of age. Josephine was born on March 21, 1921 on her family's farm in the Invermay district of Saskatchewan. A daughter of Mike and Anna (nee Nazar) Brezinski. Josephine grew up on the farm and attended school. At an early age she was stricken with polio which affected her whole life but never held her back. On October 25, 1937 Josephine was united in marriage to Walter Chopty at Invermay. Josephine and Walter farmed along side one another in the Invermay district where they raised their family. They continued to farm until Walter's health began to fail and they moved into Churchbridge. Josephine enjoyed flowers, gardening and filled her quite time crafts such as crocheting embroidery and knitting. She especially loved her family and the special visits from her friends, children, grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Walter; two sons, Russell and Lorne; and four brothers; John, Edward, Zigmund, Walter and Peter. Josephine leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Mike (Alice) of Churchbridge; two daughters, Vikki Gogal of Creston, BC and Margaret (Earl) Sundahl of Richmond, BC; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Chopty of Richmond, BC; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four brothers; Carl (Anne) of Winnipeg, Marion (Betty) of Yorkton, Stanley (Eileen) of Yorkton, Tony (Colleen) of Regina and Louys (Ada) of Invermay; two sisters, Mary Bugiera of Rama and Adelle (Lorne) Rosko of Winnipeg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Prayer services were held on Wednesday, April 3rd at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Churchbridge. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, April 4th at St. Mary's Church in Churchbridge with Rev. Fr. Rick Krofchek and Rev. Fr. Brad Fahlman as the Celebrants. The readers were James Chopty and Megan Olivier and the altarservers were Dallas Toles, Ian Olivier and Corwin Shanner. Carol Toles and Collette Shanner served as communion ministers. The organist, Lacelyn Chyz led in the singing of the hymns. The giftbearers were Dominique Chopty and Sheryl Chopty. The interment followed in St. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Invermay with Greg Toles, Jim Squire, Dwight Shanner, Bernie Kuras, Stanley Kuras and Greg Bugiera serving as the casket bearers. CHUPA - Pauline (nee Popowich), of Queen Elizabeth Court in Yorkton entered eternal rest on Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 88 years of age. Pauline was born on August 1, 1913 at Buchanan, Sask., a daughter to John and Pearl Popowich. Pauline was united in marriage to Bill Chupa on November 8, 1931. The couple farmed in the Whitesand district and raised their family. Pauline enjoyed quilting, needlework, gardening and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bill, in 1959 and brother, Mike Popowich, in 1976. Pauline leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her life; her children, Marie (Daniel) Yuzik of Yorkton, Andrew (Joyce) Chupa of Saskatoon and Anton (Angeline) Chupa of Yorkton; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also six sisters, Dora (Mike) Beblow of Yorkton, Margaret Lypny of Toronto, Mary Wasylkiw of Yorkton, Ann (Paul) Tzupa of Buchanan, Kay (Matt) Diakow of Fernie, BC, Nettie (John) Zurowell of Winnipeg and two brothers, Dan (Catherine) Popowich of Welland, ON and Bill (Olga) Popowich of Yorkton. On Friday, October 19, 2001 Robert James Colville, late of Regina, SK. passed away at the age of 85 years. Robert was born on April 30, 1916 at Invermay, Sask. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Europe during WWII. Robert enjoyed 25 years of service with Canada Post, retiring in December 1979. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Nellie Colville; and two sisters Mildred and Olive; Robert is survived by his wife Barbara; sons Stuart and Ralph (Heidi); granddaughters Becki and Heather; and brothers Jack (Effie), Charlie (Ann) and William (Jean). CRONK - John Wesley Victor. It is with great sadness that the family announces his sudden passing on Friday, March 3, 2006 in Saskatoon City Hospital. Wes was predeceased by his mother and father John and Harriet Cronk, two brothers, Frederick and Robert, two sisters Frances and Mildred, one sister-in-law Joan. Wes was born May 23, 1938 in Invermay, SK. living his school years in Reston, MB. He moved to Biggar working in the Dairy Pool before moving to Saskatoon to work at Saskatoon Paper Box. He was a talented die maker and box designer. He worked for Calgary Concrete, running line for sidewalk construction in many towns in Saskatchewan. In later years he designed and constructed business signs. Most recently he worked for Scandinavian Cleaning at Sears until November 2005. Wes was actively involved in sports bowling, hockey, softball and slow pitch. He helped coach the girls softball teams, Massey Marauders and Matchett Marvels as well as his sons baseball. Wes was a member of the Saskatoon Junior Chamber of Commerce, receiving an award for Jaycee of the year. He was very proud of the part he played in revitalizing "Fire Festival " in Saskatoon. DALDHAUG - Ingman J. passed away at his residence in St. Thomas, ON. on Friday, May 12, 2006, in his 89th year. Husband of the late Aleta (Jones) Dalshaug (1973). Step-father of Madge McMillan of Saskatoon, SK and William Rayworth of Langley, B.C. Brother of Inez Knuttila of Moose Jaw, SK, Doris Borycki and Allan Dalshaug, both of California. Also survived by friend, Doris Johnson of London, ON as well as a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. Born in Buchanan, Saskatchewan, December 3, 1917, the son of the late Ellend and Cornelle (Benson) Dalshaug. During the Second World War, Mr. Dalshaug served in Canada with the R.C.A.F. and remained in the Air Force, retiring as a Flight Sergeant after 25 years of service. He was later employed by Channel Master, St. Thomas. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas, ON. on Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. DAREICHUK - Bill W. was born April 17, 1926 in the Springside / Buchanan district to Wasyl and Katie (nee Tymoruski) the fifth child of seven. Bill attended school in the Northlake district and then moved to the Drobot area where he farmed with his dad. He soon took over the family farm. During that time he met the girl next door, Rose Marchuk, who became the love of his life. On September 5th 1954 they were married and were blessed with five children. Through their 55 years of marriage they endured many hardships but also had made many cherished memories. They resided on the farm until 1998 where they then moved into Theodore. Bill was very active and devoted to the church. He joined the church in 1955 and held the position of president of the St Nicholas Church (Drobot) for twenty years. He also was a trustee for the Chernovitz School. But his passion was farming. He enjoyed raising his cattle and seeding and harvesting using his John Deere Tractors. He loved telling stories of his younger days and had quite a sense of humor. Bill always kept busy but always made time for his family and friends. He loved to visit with his neighbors and was always there to give a helping hand. He was a proud dad and always made sure his kids were safe and taken care of. After a long struggle with Diabetes, sadly Bill passed away peacefully at the North Central Nursing Home in Yorkton on November 4th at the age of 83. He will be greatly missed. Bill was predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Katie Dareichuk, brothers John and Nick, sister Mary and husband John Podhorski, and nephew Johnny Podhorski. DARICHUK - John Nicholas, resident of Yorkton, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 95 years, 11 months and 6 days of age. John Nicholas Darichuk was born on May 17, 1907 in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan; a son of Nick and Mary (nee Drobot) Darichuk. John was raised on the family farm and received his education at Doborenowitz School. As a young man, he worked for farmers in the surrounding area. In 1930, John began farming on his own. On November 22, 1930 John was united in marriage to Mary Spilchen of Insinger. This union was blessed with three children, Harry, Frances and Phyllis. John was a community minded person. He served on the School Board for eight years and the Telephone Board for five years. John and Mary farmed for 34 years south-west of Springside. They quit farming in 1964 and moved to Yorkton. John worked in construction for Matheson Brothers for seven years and for one year at Weber Homes. He retired in 1972. Hobbies included fishing, and helping Mary in the garden. John spent the last three years in a personal care home in Yorkton, and had been hospitalized for only a few days prior to his death. After more than 69 years of marriage, John was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2000, his father Nick, his mother Mary, his brothers Mike, George, Alex, Pete, Wasyl, Tom and his sister Mary Todorash. John leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, his son Harry and his wife Trudy of Winnipeg, daughters, Frances and her husband Roman Jendrasheske of Yorkton, and Phyllis and her husband Ernie Haskewich of Calgary; six grandchildren, Tracy Darichuk, Cindy (Mark) Stone, Brenda Shumay, and Carla Rae Haskewich, all of Calgary, Sheldon Shumay of Yorkton and Kevin Darichuk of Costa Rica; four great grandchildren, Christopher and Dylan Stone and Karli Smith of Calgary, and Justin Smith of Winnipeg. DIAKOW - Maggie (nee Popowich) of Yorkton, widow of Mike, peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 Maggie entered eternal rest at her home in the presence of her family. She was 87 years of age. Maggie Diakow was born December 18, 1914 on the family homestead in the Buchanan district, the first child born in Canada to Ukrainian Pioneers, Nickola and Ann (nee Tzupa) Popowich. She was raised on the family farm and attended Vasloutz School which was four miles from home. At age fourteen she went to work for a family in the Tiny district. On October 14, 1935 Maggie was united in marriage to Mike Diakow at St. Mary's Church, Whitesand. The couple worked side by side on their farm in the Whitesand district. Their door was always open for guests. Both Mike and Maggie enjoyed hosting family and friends. Maggie enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was the cornerstone of her family including her brothers, sisters and their families who relied on her. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Church in Whitesand and Yorkton. A generous, kind hearted individual, Maggie volunteered many hours to the nursing home, St. Mary's Cultural Centre and Knights of Columbus bingos. Maggie was a devoted wife, mother, baba and great baba. Predeceased by her parents, Nick and Annie; her husband Mike; great granddaughter Jody; sisters Nellie, Mary Pawliw, Polly Diakow, Pauline Shlahetka and Katie Stefanyshyn and brothers, John, Mike, Fred and Bill Popowich; she leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter Rita of Yorkton; three grandsons, Earl (Jonine), Blake and Dale; great granddaughter Brandy; a sister Dora Spilchen of Yorkton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Niece, Doreen Clark conveyed a tribute to her aunty. DMYTRIW - Olga Cecile (nee Pasloski) of Saskatoon, SK, passed away peacefully at Saskatoon City Hospital on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the age of 86. Olga is survived by her three daughters, Cecile (George) Kidd, Sylvia Charpentier and Theresa Dmytriw; six grandchildren, Wade (Pam), Monique (Brian), Sharisse, Denise, Blaise (Alison) and Travis; six great grandchildren, Dustin, Brendan, Matthew, Brittany, Catrina and Trevor; one sister, Isabel Nazar; one brother, John Pasloski; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; one son, Elgin; three daughters, Bernadette, Leona and Phyllis; two brothers, Anton and Almond Pasloski; and one sister, Rose Yaworski. Olga was born January 7, 1918 in Rama, Saskatchewan. Olga and her husband Mike farmed in Rama district until moving to Saskatoon in 1965. She then worked at St. Ann's Nursing Home for fifteen years. Mom's love was her family and she enjoyed cooking and gardening. She will be dearly missed. DUSYK - Xenia (nee Hadubiak) of Yorkton, formerly of of the Invermay-Rama area, widow of Stephen entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 84 years of age. Xenia was born on December 9th, 1916 at Mitchelview, (Buchanan) Sask. She was the youngest child of the late Andrew and Barbara (Prokop) Hadubiak. Xenia attended Olesha School and after High School she helped her widowed mother on the farm. On September 26th, 1938 she was married to Stefan Dusyk by Rev. John Holowka at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Olesha. Stephen and Xenia resided on their newly acquired farm near Olesha for 9 years. On November 21st, 1947 the family moved to Rama where for 5 years they operated a business besides running their farm. Xenia became involved in the community and joined the U.C.W.L.C. where she served as first-vice and secretary for many years. In 1953 the family sold the Rama property and the farm in Olesha and moved to their last farm west of Invermay where the family continued to grow. In 1957 a U.C.W.L.C. was organized in Invermay and she served on the executive holding various positions until 1972. Xenia was also involved in the Home and School and was a directress in the Invermay Agricultural Society and was a great exhibitor who won numerous competitions at the annual fair for her sewing, baking, crafts and also for her garden and yard. She always encouraged her family to participate. She was previously a press reporter for the Wadena News and then for the Ukrainian section of "Our Pathway" in Yorkton since 1972. Xenia was employed at Anderson Lodge where she took care of the needs of senior citizens for 10 years beginning in 1973. Starting in 1975, Xenia held various positions through the years with Yorkton U.C.W.L.C. including president. In 1990 she was installed into the Eparchial Executive in St. Athanasius Church in Regina, as member at large. In 1990 Xenia was installed as 1st. Vice and liaison to the Eparchial Executive in St. Mary's Church in Yorkton which gave her seven years with the Eparchial. In 1991 she was awarded a Certificate of Merit for long-outstanding dedication to the U.C.W.L.C. She also served on various committees such as the Millennium, Regional Centennial, Yorkton Centennial, a member of U.C.C. since it was organized in Yorkton in 1991 and a member of the Golden Agers since it was organized in 1977. In 1993 she visited Ukraine with the Humanitarian Aide, "Gift of Hope". This trip was highlighted in a family history book that Xenia authored and dedicated in the memory of her parents Andrew and Barbara Hadubiak so their descendants would have a written record of their ancestors. Xenia maintained her wonderful sense of humour to the very end. She will be remembered for her carefully tended yard and garden. Many a summer day was spent in it. She took enormous pride in her Ukrainian heritage and her catholic faith, passing it down to her children and descendents. She loved her family deeply. Her family will cherish her beautifully handcrafted patchwork quilts for years to come. Every descendent has received one. Xenia leaves a rich legacy of great love, caring, kindness and generosity to everyone she knew. Xenia was predeceased by her husband Stephen in 1987; her father Andrew in 1923; her mother Barbara in 1938; infant brother Nickolas in 1902; infant sister Ann in 1910; brothers, Peter in 1974; Steve in 1980 and John in 1993; a sister Katherine Kozak in 2001; daughter-in-law Lynda (Marvin) in 1998 and grand-daughter Julie (Rev. The Golden Agers wreath was carried by Natalie Sakundiak. DUTCHAK - Ethel (nee Hrynchyshyn), of Yorkton and formerly of the Buchanan district, entered eternal rest peacefully at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the age of 93 years. Ethel Dutchak was born June 21, 1914 in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan a daughter of John and Mary (nee Kresak) Hrynchyshyn. Ethel was a mother of four children: Marcella (Mike) Hadubiak of Buchanan, SK, Harold of Yorkton, SK., Phyllis of Toronto ON. and Mike who had predeceased her. Besides her children Ethel leaves her grandchildren and great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law Loretta of Lethbridge, AB. She was predeceased by her husband William and her son Mike. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday morning, September 20, 2007 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Yorkton, SK. with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko as Celebrant. The sermon was written by Ethel's brother Most Rev. Bishop Michael Hrynchyshyn. The responses to the Liturgy were sung by Ed Pindus and members of the parish. DZIADUCK - Mike N. of Pioneer Village, Regina died peacefully on Feb. 7 at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family and the caring staff of 3 West. Mike was born in the Buchanan district, the youngest child of Katie and Nick. He married Mary (nee Biblow) on November 14, 1943. They farmed the family homestead until 1983; also cared for Mike's father (Nick) and Mary's mother (Magda) in their parents' declining and final years. Mike was known to his neighbours for his generosity, offering a lending hand with labour and equipment. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted, generous and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His sense of humour and honesty were known to those who knew him well. Mike will be mourned by his wife of 59 years, Mary, who resides at the Alzheimer's ward at Pioneer Village; daughters Iris of Regina-granddaughters Chantelle and Amber of Vancouver, Stella of Surrey (Eugene Slowski), granddaughter Tiffany of Calgary; and Fran of Regina (Al Hackman), grandson Justin and granddaughter Taylor; and his brother Joe of Buchanan. William was raised on the family farm which was in the Wroxton District, since the family had moved from Buchanan. William received his education at Loyal School and soon, as a young man left to work for farmers. On November 29, 1939, William was united in marriage to Lillian Graczo at Tisdale Sask. They made their home in Yorkton in 1947. William became self-employed as he purchased his own trucking outfit and hauled everything from soup to nuts and to wherever he was needed. As well, William was trained in heavy equipment operation and the maintenance of the equipment. Many times he would clear the land for farmers with a Caterpillar, often going that extra mile for his clients. This was a trademark of William as he took great pride in his work and its quality. He also was self taught in the trades which helped him in the houses that he built. In 1995 William semi-retired due to his health, however never one to stand still he kept tinkering on his acreage. William also has devoted the last 17 years looking after his grandchildren. He loved to be with them while their parents were at work. William loved to travel especially when it was with his children and grandchildren. Many times he would accompany his daughter Linda to her craft sales often selling and setting up at the venues and travellling various places in western Canada with her cats to cat shows. William leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his wife Lillian; his sons Leonard and his wife Suzanne of Yorkton, and Allen and his wife Laurie of Regina; also his daughter Linda of Regina; grandchildren Erin and Kimberly of Yorkton, Christopher and Jay of Regina; brothers Alex of Winnipeg, James and his wife Jennie of Wroxton along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. William was predeceased by his mother Mary, his father John; sisters Doris and her husband James Nicholson, Bella Lawrence, Katie and her husband John Puritch and a sister-in-law Hilda Elaschuk. FERN - Laura Ione (nee Willis) passed away at Invermay, Sask. Thursday, November 3, 2005 at the age of 99 years. She is survived by her daughter, Merle (Hans) Gaastra, Regina; 2 granddaughters, Wendy (Curt) Mattson, Arizona; Stacey Gaastra (Greg Smith), Medicine Hat; 2 great-granddaughters, Mikyla and Rayelle Smith; several nieces and nephews. FERNETS - Carrie (nee Ternowetsky). With profound sadness our family announces the loss of Carrie Fernets, on July 11, 2008, at age 86. Carrie will be dearly missed by sons, Terry (Bonnie) and Brian (Willa); grandsons, Cory, Brett and Reid; sister, Geraldine (Vance) Caskey; and her much-loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Jerry Fernets; parents, George and Natalia Ternowetsky; sisters, Olga Perron and Lil Guspadarchuk; brothers, Willie and John. Carrie grew up in the Buchanan and Kelvington areas, then settled in Saskatoon with Jerry to raise their family. An exceptional friend, gifted nurse and hard worker, she gave tender, generous nursing care to many family and friends and lived to serve. Carrie's family feasts made her famous for her pyrogies, borsch, cabbage rolls and 'dainties'. Her extraordinary beauty reflected an even lovelier heart, and the memory of Carrie's laughing presence continues to bless those who knew her. God prepared a place for her; we thank Him for that. Interment at a future date. FERRIE - Patricia Belle "Pat" (nee McNulty). It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Patricia Belle Ferrie. The heart she used so well for so many gave out on March 30, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Ethel, her husband Robert (Bob), and her brothers, Elroy and Brett. She served her community for thirty years as nurse and matron of Invermay Hospital. Hers were the hands that first touched you at birth and eased your pain along the way. She married Bob Ferrie in 1952. They lived and worked in the community until Bob passed away in 1993. She is survived by her Aunt Lib, brother Alvin, her sisters Janice (Max) and June (Allan), sister-inlaws Lillian, Sheila, Leona, Myrtle, brother-inlaw Russ, her three children, Val (Gene), James (Alison) and Todd (Linda), her grandchildren Pearce (Lindsay), Connor, and Theresa, her great grand-daughter Jessica, and the rest of her large loving family and friends. FIALA - Marleen Isabella Alice (nee Gray) of Blaine Lake, SK, passed away in Shellbrook Hospital on November 20, 2009 after a very brief eight week battle with stomach cancer. Marleen was born on July 23, 1938 in Canora, SK. She was the youngest of seven children. She took her elementary and high school in Invermay, SK. After high school, she worked at various jobs in the Invermay area. In 1957 she met her future husband, Vernal Fiala and then later married him in Invermay on November 6, 1959. They lived in Invermay for a short time and relocated to Norquay, SK then to Hyas, SK in 1962. In 1976 the family moved to Blaine Lake, SK and she resided in Blaine Lake until her passing. Together, they had four sons and a daughter. Marleen was the consummate community volunteer and spent endless hours at the community skating rink and the annual Blaine Lake sports day. She was treasurer for the `TOPS' organization, the chairperson of the Blaine Lake Haven Lodge Tenants Association and was on the Blaine Lake Library Board. She was also a dedicated member of the `Communities in Bloom' committee and was a loyal supporter o the Blaine Lake Community Association. She involved herself at all levels for fund raising. A member of the community will surely be missed. In 2004 she was nominated and received the lifetime community contribution award. She was an amazing cook and a gracious host. You never left her home hungry. She had a great love for her ten grandchildren and never missed an event they were involved in. Her wealth was her family and wonderful friends. Marleen had a great passion for the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Eskimos. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Vaughn (Carol Brown), his children Cayle and Cody of Saskatoon, SK; Darryl and his son Benjamin of Saskatoon, SK; Calvin (Arden) and their children Elene and Hartley of Shaunavon, SK; Rhonda (Bryan) Roney and their children, Alexa and Jaimie of Calgary, AB; Wade (Karen) and their children Abby, Emily and Lauren of Blaine Lake, SK. FOSS - Kenneth, a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2001 following a lengthy illness. He was 77 years of age. Ken was born on July 18, 1923 on the family farm nine miles north of Buchanan, son of Tollef and Elizabeth (nee Haugland) Foss, Norwegian pioneers. He attended Wergeland School and after leaving his formal education early commenced helping on the family farm. Ken and his brother Melvin continued to operate the family farm until Ken's admission to Gateway Lodge on July 16, 1997. He was an avid reader and was known for his faithfulness to the Chevrolet, Allis Chalmers and Minneapolis product lines. He was predeceased by his parents Tollef and Elizabeth, three siblings in infancy, brother Telmer and sisters Belle Wilkie and Clara Bestward. Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his brother Melvin of Buchanan, nephew Duncan (Laurie) Wilkie and their children Scott and Jennifer of Edmonton, AB; as well as many dear friends and neighbours. FRANKE - Ethel Dorothy (nee Schwanke). Mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. Ethel was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan on January 11, 1928. She was the eldest child of Oswald and Alma (Rediger) Schwanke and grew up on their farm south of Kelvington, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her son, Allan (Juliette) Franke; daughter, Brenda (Tim) Wrubleski; and brothers, Ted (Lucy) Schwanke and Roger Schwanke. She was predeceased by her husband, Felix in 1998; her eldest son, Dale in 1990; and her brother, Othe Schwanke in 2003. Mourning the loss of their grandmother are Sherrill Verhelst, Sherita (Tim) Macdonald, Adria (Jason) Pozniak, Halayna (Jeff) Heshka, Elyse (Kelly) Thomas, Laura (Guy) Duke and Jonathan Wrubleski. She will also be deeply missed by her seven great-grandchildren. Ethel and Felix were married in 1946 and farmed for 43 years in the Margo Invermay district. They retired to Langham in 1989 where Ethel resided until her final journey to St. Paul's Hospital. Ethel loved bird watching and gardening and was especially proud of the many varieties in her flower garden and her ability to identify the various species. She also was an animal lover and always had a dog near her, especially her last and most loved, Sheba. Interment will follow at the Langham Cemetery. FULLAWKA - Anne Verna (nee Matsalla). The passing of Anne Verna (Matsalla) Fullawka occured peacefully at Cosmopolitan Villa on December 31, 2008 with her family by her side. Annie was born June 12, 1911 in the Buchanan, SK district. She is survived by her son Ernie(Ruth), daughters: Jeanette (Maurice) Blais and Sandy (Val) Muyres; grandchildren: Tammy Read, Monica Robinson, Terri Fullawka, Heather Wallace, Nicole Burgess, Janine Muyres, Keith Muyres, Karla Fullawka, Sarah Dobmeier, Jonathan Muyres and great-granddaughter, Kristy Fullawka and 20 greatgrandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Emily Matsalla; numerous neices and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Joe; her parents John and Pelegia Matsalla; brother Louis Matsalla; sisters Sophie Garbus, Mary Vektoris, Jean Matsalla and Genevieve Heath. She went to school in Buchanan, SK, then worked in the Post Office. Anne had a sense of adventure and in her early 20's travelled to Montreal, QC where she lived for a year. She returned to SK where she married Joe, lived in Tiny, SK then Buchanan, SK. She always worked with Joe in their own store and later the Buchanan Co-op store and part-time at the Buchanan Telephone Office. They moved to Saskatoon in 1965 where, for many years, Anne kept U of S students as `boarders' until she retired. During their retirement, Anne and Joe spent many summers at Turtle Lake where Anne would consistently `out fish' Joe. They loved camping and several times took their young grandchildren on camping trips. The most cherished part of Annie's life was her children and grandchildren. She was always there to help out and take care of whomever needed it at the time. She was a very wise woman and passed on her wisdom to her daughters and grand-daughters. One of her favourite activities, in her later years, was her weekly visits to Grabbajabba downtown Saskatoon, which her grand-daughters managed. Everyone knew Thursday afternoon Annie and her sister Jean would be sitting at their table drinking Mocchacinos. She could always make you laugh and when asked how she was would say I'm still here. We will miss you Mom. We'd like to thank everyone at Grace and Gloria's Care Home for 5 years of wonderful care they gave Mom and the staff at Cosmopolitan Villa for their care and concern in her last few months. GAWRELITZA - Katie (nee Bilan) of Yorkton and formerly of the Sheho district entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 8, 2001 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 88 years of age. Katie Gawrelitza was born on April 7, 1912 in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan. She was a daughter of Alex and Dora (nee Calanchie) Bilan. Katie was raised on the family farm and attended Oleksine School. Following her education she began employment as a domestic for a farmer in the Mozart district and for other area farmers. On February 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Fred Gawrelitza at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Rama. They farmed together for 39 years in the district, eventually retiring and making their home in Yorkton. Fred died in 1998, but Katie continued to live on her own. During her life Katie was devoted to her church. She was passionate about her garden and flowers and found time to embroider and knit. She was known for her hospitality, never letting anyone leave her home without something to eat. She loved to socialize and play cards. She was proud of her grandchildren, enjoying every visit. GRADY - Emily (nee Fullawka) age 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at St. Ann's Home, Saskatoon. Emily is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law: Agnes McGrath of Vancouver, Helen (August) Brons of Humboldt, Albina Wolsfeld; and a sister-inlaw, Annie Fullawka, both of Saskatoon. Emily was predeceased by her husband, Cyril Grady (1977); her parents, Thomas and Angela (Silwa) Fullawka; six brothers and two sisters-in-law: Joseph, Walter (Helen), Bernard, Murray, Louis (Olga) and Adolf; three sisters and five brothers-in-law: Annie (Paul) Wolkowski, Pauline (Julius) Slogocki and Philomene (Leonard) Myrfield, Dan McGrath and Louis Wolsfeld. Emily was born December 18, 1921 in Tiny SK, attended school in Tiny and Buchanan, then Normal School, Saskatoon for teachers training and later obtained a B.A. and B.Sc. in Home Economics from the University of Windsor. Emily taught in Saskatchewan for several years, worked for B.C. Electric (Vancouver) for two years, managed the Humboldt Bowling Alley for one year, then to Toronto where she worked at the U of T and taught for the Metropolitan Toronto Separate School Board from 1955 1968. In 1969 she married Cyril Grady and they moved to Windsor where she taught for the Windsor Separate School Board while completing her degrees, until retiring in 1981. She then moved to Tiny to care for her mother. After her mother's death in 1983 she moved to Canora where she lived in the home she built. In Canora she served on the St. Joseph Parish Council, CWL, Public Library Board and the Canora Housing Authority, until suffering a stroke in 2003. Emily moved to St. Ann's Home in June 2005 where the care she received is truly appreciated by her family and friends and we extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers. "Dick" passed away Thursday, January 20th, 2005 in Saskatoon. Richard was born in Scotland on July 25, 1923 and came to Canada with his family at an early age to Invermay, Sask. He was raised in the Invermay District and moved to Saskatoon in 1954. Richard is survived by his wife, Naomi Gray; his children, Larry (Faye), Val, Kelly (Sharon) and Shelly (Garry) Sander; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Margret, Nora, Andy (Linda), Bud (Una), Marleen; and two daughters-in-law, Kay and Terryl. Richard was predeceased by his first wife, Geraldine; two sons, Danny and Chris; his brother, Jack (Hazel); and three brothers-in-law, Lyle Enright, Ray Fiala and Lewis Dalshaug; as well as his parents, Richard and Isabel. Richard was an elevator agent for a number of years. He worked for the D.N.R. He lost his first wife Geraldine to emphysema in 1989. After his retirement, he became a snowbird to Arizona where he met Naomi at a dance. They spent many happy hours dancing. For a few years, they spent winters in Arizona and summers in Saskatoon. They moved to BC for health reasons and returned to Saskatchewan the spring of 2003 where he resided at Ville Royale until his passing. Interment to take place at a later date in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. GUEST - Adeline Thelma (nee Myrfield) August 10, 1910 - April 15, 2009. Adeline passed away peacefully at Saskatoon City Hospital with her daughter at her side. Adeline was the youngest of eleven children born to Olaf and Janna Myrfield of Buchanan, SK. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Earl in 1943, and her second husband, T. Harry Guest in 1994. Adeline is survived and sadly missed by her loving daughters, Dianne (Gerry) Greenblat, and Louise (Harry) Matzner; and her dear son, Bill. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, Sandra (Mike) Harasymuk and their daughter Janelle; Laura (Dean) Bergstrom and their daughter, Rebecca; Christine (Scott) Willis and their children, Kylie, Madison, and Brennen; Michael (Dena) Bateman and their son Desmond; Todd (Lisa) Bateman and their children Megan and Cole; Nicole (Maury) Yee and their children Aeyden and Hannah; Candace (Jamie) Cooper and their daughter Gabrielle; and Aaron Guest. Adeline was a wonderful homemaker, famous for her cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting and knitting. She loved animals, especially her cat and dog. Funeral service for Paul Gulutzan, 75, of Buchanan, who died July 21, 2001 at Regina General Hospital, was held July 25 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Mamornitz) with Rev. Patro Angel officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Ukrainian Orthodox Church cemetery. Born on July 4, 1926, in the Buchanan district to Mandary and Mary (Kushneriuk) Gulutzan, he spent his entire life farming. He was known for his woodcarving and whittling. Predeceased by his parents Mandary and Mary, seven brothers, Alex, John, Mike, Ed, Joe, Charlie and Nick, and six sisters, Dora Homeniuk, Ann Protsak, Helen Boychuk, Myrtle Kopan, Kate Kostniuk and Tillie Marchuk, he is survived by two brothers, Steve of Theodore and Walter of Buchanan, and one sister, Sophie Parnetta of Tillsonburg, Ont. HADUBIAK - Joseph, a resident of Muchmor Lodge in Regina, formerly of Yorkton and Rama entered eternal rest on Friday, April 13, 2007 at his residence. He was 92 years of age. Joseph was born August 24, 1914 to Andrew and Barbara Hadubiak on the family homestead NE 1/4 of 18-33-6 W 2 known as Olesha. He attended Olesha public school and took grade 1X and X by correspondence. On October 7, 1939 he married Mary Krochak, daughter of Harry Krochak and Annie (Madarash). They farmed on the home quarter for 8 yrs. In 1947 they left the farm and moved to Rama where he contracted with the CNR. While in Rama he belonged to St. Peter & Paul Parish where he become involved in the parish and recreation clubs. In Rama he served as Secretary Treasurer for the school board. In 1957 he moved his family to Yorkton and he joined Track Maintenance Forces with CNR and worked at different locations. In Yorkton he served as Secretary Treasurer for Maintenance of Ways Employees, Secretary Treasurer for the Golden Agers and held various committee positions and was also involved with the Threshermen's Festival. He received an Award of Appreciation for the dedication to Golden Agers and also received a Certificate of Merit from the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. He enjoyed gardening and getting together with relatives and friends for a game of Kaiser and was always busy helping people. In 1997 he sold his house and moved to Regina, he lived in an apartment for 4 yrs and then moved to Hewitt Place for 5 years, where he met new friends and they were like a close net family. Last October he moved into the Residence of Mutchmor Lodge. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his wife Mary, stepmother, brothers, John, Nickolas, Peter and Steve; sisters, Ann, Katherine and Xenia, daughter Elizabeth, granddaughter Theresa and great grandson Bradley. He leaves to mourn one son Sylvester(Karen); two daughters, Elaine Van Os and Gloria Galinski all of Regina; grandchildren, Arthur Beyer(Linda) of BC, John Galinski (Joey) Regina, Curtis Beyer(Nancy) BC, Brenda Jasper(Jim) Regina, Michelle Van Os of Regina, Kory Van Os of BC, Christina, Shay, Brian, Candice (Trent), Jason (Lori) Stacey (Mark); great grandchildren: Chantille, Graham, Cassandra, Jasmine, Mitchell, Allison, Jordyn, Isaiah and Jordan. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, April 20th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Frank Szadiak, as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed. Pindus, Colette Karapita and members of the parish choir. The honour guard was formed by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and the Golden Agers. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Arthur Beyer, John Galinski, Curtis Beyer, Kory Van Os, Chantille Jasper and Graham Jasper serving as the casket bearers. HADUBIAK - Pearl (nee Malowany) was born on November 24, 1915 in the Rama district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Sam and Ethel (nee Panchiw) Malowany. She was raised on the family farm and attended school at Wolna. In June of 1935 she was united in marriage to Steve Hadubiak. The couple farmed in the Buchanan district (Olesha) for 38 years, until retiring to Yorkton in 1973. While living in Yorkton, Steve and Pearl were active members of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Pearl was also a UCWL member and volunteered often to work at St. Mary's Cultural Centre. In July of 2008, Pearl became a resident of the Invermay Health Care Centre, where she resided until her peaceful passing on Thursday, September 17, 2009. She was 93 years, 9 months and 23 days of age. Predeceased by her husband Steve in 1980; parents Sam in 1965 and Ethel in 1981; brothers Michael, Vladimir and Bill Malowany; sisters: Dora Oshust, Ann Prokop, Catherine Hadubiak and Mary Danylyshen. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Rudy (Margaret) of Winnipeg; Marcile (Eleanor) of Buchanan; six grandchildren: Bev, Randy (Gail), Bradley, Twila, Tracy and Tanis; five great grandchildren: Sheryl, Sheena, Ashley, Caley and Devon; one great great granddaughter Nichaela; a sister-in-law, Irene Malowany of Wadena; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. HADUBIAK - William "Bill", of Canora and formerly of the Amsterdam district, passed away at the Canora Hospital on Sunday, May 13th, 2007 at the age of 80 years. Bill was born on February 23rd, 1927 on the family farm in the Buchanan district to John and Anne (nee Diakow) Hadubiak. Bill most recently celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all. Bill is lovingly remembered by his special friend, Stella Mankewich; his children: Vicki Mclean, Rick (Susan), Inez (Denis) Sanche, Beverly (Wayne) McMullan, Doug (Connie), Ken (Jeanne), and Dennis (Lori); his sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Mike (Marcella), Mary Konkal, Pauline (Mike) Fedik, and Adele (Alex) Chernepeski. HAICHERT - Nellie (nee Okrainetz) passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years at the Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon on Saturday, January 15, 2005. Nell was born on March 1, 1925 on the farm near Rama, SK. After leaving school and helping on the family farm for a few years she left for Saskatoon where she gained employment at the Bessborough Hotel. While in Saskatoon, Nell met and married Aug Haichert. Nell also worked as a meat cutter in various OK stores in Saskatoon. Nell enjoyed gardening, curling, golfing and on occasion a trip down south to the casino with her girl friends. Nell was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Okrainetz; sister, Annie; brothers, Tom, Wasil, Steve and Paul; sisters-in-law, Jean and Sylvia; brothers-in-law, Leslie and Fred; as well as several nephews and nieces. HALBACH - Mildred Irene Hanna (nee Galley). Funeral service for Mildred Halbach, 82, of Wadena and formerly of the Invermay district, who died June 5, 2001 in the Wadena Hospital, was held June 8 from Tompkins Funeral Home in Wadena with Pastor Robert Rud officiating. Burial was in Hazel Dell Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born in Kindersley on February 19, 1919, she was raised near Invermay. After attending Dobrowody School she continued her education in Heatherbank. On October 27, 1940, she married Robert Halbach and the couple moved to the Paswegin area in 1978 where they worked for various farmers. She was a member of the Quill Lake Seventh�Day Adventist Church. Predeceased by a sister, Alice, she is survived by her husband; two sons, Gordon and Clifford (Cora); three daughters, Carol (Raymond), Esther (Jim) and Sharon (Tony); one brother, Robert; 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. HAMELIN - Edith Irene. With great sadness we announce the passing of Edith Irene Hamelin on her birthday February 14, 2009. Edith was born on the farm in Rama, Sask. in 1931. She was predeceased by her ever loving husband Roger; parents; sister Flo (Jerry); and brother-in-law Bill. Edith is survived by her sisters Ina and Daisy and her family; Flo's family and Roger's family. After completing grade 12 in Rama, Edith went to Normal School in Saskatoon. Her first teaching job was in Lajord, where she met Roger. They moved to Regina where she taught Kindergarten until her retirement. Edith was very active in curling and golf. In her younger years she played softball and bragged about how her team could out score any other team they faced. Edith was a long time member of the Legion and was involved with the ANA vets. Edith was a fabulous cook and a great friend to all. A million thanks to Dr. McMillan and the staff at William Booth Grace Hospice, her wonderful neighbors and old friends. She was loved so much and gone too soon. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Garry passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at the age of 72. He was born in 1937 at Buchanan, Sask. and attended high school there where he made many of his lifelong friends. The majority of his working career was spent as a territory manager for Cockshutt/White Farm Equipment and then New Noble. The family moved several times but mainly resided in the Canora-Yorkton area where Garry had a special fondness for the summer home at Good Spirit Lake (Canora Beach). He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leona (nee Matsalla); daughter, Val (Dan) Lemke of Calgary; and son, Doug (Lori) Hassard of Saskatoon. He was very proud of his four granddaughters, Anna and Kim Hassard and Shannon and Paige Lemke. He is also survived by a brother, Lawrence of Thompson, MB and several nieces and nephews. It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Rose Hlynsky at the age of 96 years, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Monday, December 17, 2007. Rose will be dearly missed by her family, son, Nicholas (Mary); daughter, Jeanette (Harold Swanson); son, Nestor (Sandra Downes); and grandchildren, Bill, Erin and Stephanie. Rose was born September 9, 1911 in the District of Buchanan, SK. She married William Hlynsky in 1933. They resided in Canora, SK, Virden, MB and moving to Saskatoon in 1965. Rose was an exceptional person who was deeply admired by all who knew her. Her strength, charm, humour, generosity and compassion were inspiring. Some of her hobbies included gardening, baking bread, reading, handy crafts, and a love of baseball. She hosted many extraordinary dinners displaying her culinary talents, culminating in the highlight of the year, Christmas Eve at Grandma's House. Most importantly Rose was a loving, gracious and caring wife, mother and grandma to her family and extended family who will always honour and cherish her legacy and memory. She was 80 years, 2 months and 12 days of age. Anne Hnidey was born on April 9, 1921 in the Springside district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Mike and Maria (nee Popowich) Pawliw. She was raised on the family farm and attended the North Lake School. On October 30, 1943 she was united in marriage to William Hnidey. For the first few years they farmed on Anne's parents farm in the Drobot district south of Buchanan until 1958, when they moved to a farm in the Springside district. Anne and William retired from active farming in 1978, moving to Yorkton, leaving their son Melvin to carry on the family farm. Anne enjoyed gardening, sewing and mending. She greatly enjoyed having company and loved to share her baking with everyone. Anne and William also enjoyed a good game of cards. During her last years, Anne took care of William, who was in ill health. Following William's passing, Anne moved into the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, where she resided until her passing. She was predeceased by her beloved husband William in December of 2000; her parents Mike and Maria Pawliw; sisters Sophie Pawliw and Katherine Bednas, and by brothers-in-law Mike Biblow and Paul Lahoda. She leaves to cherish her memory her three loving sons and their families: Morris (Roselene, Cordell & Chantel); Lorne (Jacquie, Tanner & Hunter), all of Lloydminster; and Melvin (Lori, Curtis, Kim & Mitchell) of Springside. HNIDEY - William, beloved husband husband of Anne Hnidey of Yorkton and formerly of the Springside district passed away on Sunday morning, December 3, 2000. He was 87 years of age. William Hnidey was born on September 2, 1913 on the family farm in the Drobot district of Saskatchewan, south of Buchanan, a son of Konan and Anne Hnidey. He was raised on the family farm and attended the North Lake School #3991. As a young man he helped on the family farm and also ventured east to Ontario to work for a time. On October 30, 1943 William was married to Anne Pawliw. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Drobot district until 1958, when they moved to a farm in the Springside district. William and Anne retired from active farming in 1978 and moved into Yorkton, leaving their son Melvin to carry on. William enjoyed returning often to the farm to help Melvin with odd jobs that needed doing. In his younger years Bill was an avid hunter and trapper. He also enjoyed socializing with a good game of cards. He had served as a board member and secretary-treasurer of North Lake School. Although in poor health for some years Bill tried to keep a positive outlook and through the help of his family and with assistance of home care was able to spend his last days in the comfort of his own home. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Joe and Metro and by sisters Jennie, Olga Klym and Rose Yurk, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Anne; three sons and their families, Morris (Roselene, Cordell and Chantel), Lorne (Jacquie, Tanner and Hunter) all of Lloydminster and Melvin (Lori, Curtis, Kim and Mitchell) of Springside; two sisters, Mary Borchowitz of Yorkton and Vickie Wiwchar of Toronto, several nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends. HOSALUK - Paul (April 18, 1915 - December 17, 2007) passed away peacefully at the Royal University Hospital at the age of 92. Paul was born in the Rama District to Nicolas and Mary. Her grandchildren and great grandsons were a blessing and she cherished each one with her special love. Mom was a devout Christian and her day was not complete without her evening rosary. She had a special adoration for the Blessed Mother and always prayed for the health and protection of her family. Mom lived her life caring for others, whether she was gardening, cooking, working alongside dad on the farm or volunteering at church events. Her tremendous cooking was a joy to all who knew her. Mom was a humble and compassionate person. All who knew her were touched by her warm sincerity. KALENCHUK - Mae (nee Hrynowetsky), of Canora passed away peacefully in Regina following a brief struggle with cancer surrounded by her family on February 26th, 2005 at the age of 77 years. Mae was born on the family farm in the Rhein District and attended school there. Following her marriage to John Kalenchuk, they moved to the Buchanan area where she helped with the day-to-day operations of the farm and loving raised her children. She enjoyed baking, gardening, bowling and her yard. The many trips and vacations following their retirement from farming were another source of pleasure. Mae was a gentle and caring mother, a devoted wife of fifty-six years who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish the memories and celebrate the life of this utterly delightful woman, whose zest for life was irrepressible, are her husband of more than 62 years, Joseph P. Kowbel of Canora, SK, their children, Mary Anne (Modest Kowal) of Saskatoon, Joanna (Peter Kapusta) of Meadow Lake, Joseph (Janice Hauser) of Saskatoon, and Michael (Deborah Clark) of Kamloops, BC, and their grandchildren, upon whom she doted and spoiled with her unconditional love and culinary expertise: Johanna (Murray Dietrich) of Edmonton, AB, Alicia (Graeme Carey) of Saskatoon, Justin and Katherine Kowal of Saskatoon, Michael Kapusta of Saskatoon, Christina Kapusta of Edmonton, AB, Mathew, Mishaela, Anastasha and Jantina Kowbel of Saskatoon; her brother Marcel (Eva) of Victoria, BC and several nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Canora, Saskatchewan on November 10, 1920 and spent most of her youth in Buchanan, SK. After marrying Joseph in 1942, Mom helped Dad manage Kowbel's Drug Store until 1986, all the while lovingly caring for her family who called 'upstairs' their home. Mom took pride in preparing exhaustive menus for large gatherings of family and friends in their home and at Madge Lake. She unselfishly shared her table with local clergy for more than 30 years. Mom was determined to live life to the fullest, and to nurture and inspire others to reach for their dreams and goals. Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, and Easter were occasions to celebrate the love and closeness that only family warmth could provide. At the centre of Mom's universe was her family both immediate and extended as evidenced by her generous hospitality. Mom's life was filled with great respect, boundless energy and a sincere desire to be of service to others. She was the major caregiver for her blind Uncle Johnny Obodiak, among others. She saw God in all people, and took pride in sharing the beauty and produce of her extensive flower and vegetable gardens with everyone. Mom was a Charter Member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Women's League (UCWLC) and was an active participant in their activities for more than 60 years. Mom sang in Church and community choirs and loved lifting her voice in praise of the Lord. Our mother was an amazing lady of unconditional love and a pillar of strength for our entire family. Her passion for life will remain forever in our hearts and will serve as an inspiration for all who knew her. We will miss you deeply, Mom. We will remember those lessons you taught, and we will endeavor to live our lives patterned upon yours. We love you, Mom. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of very warm and caring mother, who kept her sense of quiet dignity, a positive outlook and always thought of others before herself throughout her entire life. She was the dear spouse of our father, Steve for 49 years until his death on April 2, 1982. To this union two daughters were born, Sally (Mike) Lalach and Mary (Walter) Kohanski who survive her. Annie Komar was born on a homestead at Buchanan on March 15, 1915, daughter of Nick Hrynkiw and Mary Slobodian. She was the eldest of eleven children, nine who have predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Mary of Toronto. She also leaves to mourn grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. As a child she resided in Orcadia, Duval, Mozart and Rokeby, necessitated due to her father being a section foreman. On October 29, 1933, she married Steve Komar, a railroader also and lived in Unity, then Hendon. While in Hendon they purchased a farm near Hendon. They retired from farming in 1973 and purchased a home in Wynyard. Over the years besides farm work mother enjoyed gardening quilting and cooking delicious meals for her visitors and family for many gatherings. Her home-made lemon pies, home baked bread, buns, jam, Paska, perogies and cabbage rolls were a treat for all, and no one left our parents house without enjoying their fine hospitality. In her active years she was a member of Farmer's Market, Drop In Centre, the Birthday Club, and Sacred Heart UCWL. She enjoyed playing cards in her spare time and loved an evening of Bingo or Casino. Always loved to have folks drop by for a chat. She showed a genuine interest in everyone she met. To many youngsters in Wynyard she was known as Baba. Mother will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend. Mother was very proud of her children and dearly loved in return. She seemed to sense her final journey. You will be missed dear mother and friend, but you have earned your rest. We believe as you did that you are now united with Dad and all those you have lived with and missed so much. Dear Mother was the epitome of honesty, tenacity and brightness. It was an honour to have shared our lives with her and father. We thank you for filling each of our lives with never ending love, joy and kindness. You will live forever in our hearts. Bill was born on February 1, 1922 at Buchanan, Saskatchewan to John and Eustina (Wasyliw) Kominetsky. He attended Vasloutz School in the Buchanan district. Bill worked on the family farm until 1953, when he joined the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in construction. He remained with the Wheat Pool Co. until his retirement in 1983. He loved puttering around in his yard and keeping everything very neat. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Eustina; sister, Mary; and brother, George. It is with great sadness that the family of August Kowalchuk, beloved husband of Evelyn (Zarazun), announces his peaceful passing at the Canora Hospital on January 31st, 2009 at the age of 81 years. He was born at Tiny, Saskatchewan on July 19th, l927 to Julian and Caroline (nee Sleeva) Kowalchuk. He was educated at both Tiny and Canora schools. After completing school, August decided to spread his wings and travel to Ontario where he worked for a local farming family. He returned to Saskatchewan to help with the family farm after his father became ill. He worked for the RM of Buchanan and discovered his entrepreneurial spirit -he purchased his own caterpillar and started his first business. He worked persistently to grow his business by cutting brush, digging basements and dugouts for many families in the community. August lived in the same community and attended the same church as Evelyn. On July 14th, 1953 they were married at St. Mary's Parish in Tiny. Together they established their own family farming business near Tiny where they lived and worked until recently. August continued to work his caterpillar business and expanded his work to include custom grain cleaning. His passion for working on the land and with his livestock was apparent. Although he worked very hard, he always had a sparkle in his eye when he spoke about his crops, his cows and his hogs. August educated himself in the area of livestock care and practiced his veterinarian skills on his own livestock. His fellow farming neighbours came to rely on these self-taught skills. August was involved in St. Mary's Church in Tiny and worked hard to upkeep this parish community that his parents and grandparents pioneered. He participated fully as a parishioner and took his turn at getting up at 4:00 a.m. in the winter to build a fire in the church stove so that those attending 9:00 a.m. mass were sure to be cozy. August also contributed to his business community by participating in the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool at Tiny in his role as secretary. August and Evelyn retired to Canora in February 2004. August loved his family in a subtle, unassuming and stoic manner. He passed his unrelenting work ethic and entrepreneurial strength on to all of his children. His quiet but strong faith earned the respect of his family. August had a passion for reading, enjoying biographies, historical and political books. August enjoyed children and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; and children, Cordelia and Raymond Ciesielski, and their children Nathan (Kathy) and Leah (Colin) of Young, Clarissa and Larry Poberznek, and their children Joyce (Conrad) and Gina of Martensville, Corrie and Debbie Kowalchuk, and their children Kelly (Lynette) and Joel of Saskatoon, Milton and Barb Kowalchuk, and their children Jessie (Sarah) and Amy of Canora, Tracey Kowalchuk and Paul Maczek of Martensville; and five great-grandchildren, Colton, Jordyn, Brielle, Piper, Harlie; brothers: Adolph (Esther), Lawrence (Rose), Edmund (Stella), Bernard (Elsie), Anton (Lucy), Arthur (Charlotte), Chester (Leona); and sisters: Magdeline, Gertrude (John), Isabelle (Edward), Julie (Ernest), and Josephine. On Sunday, August 30, 2009, Helen "Ev" widow of Steve Kozar, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. died peacefully at the age of 88 years after a courageous fight. Helen was born July 10, 1921 at Buchanan, Sask. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Ed Hengen. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery. KRIVUZOFF - Edna Tanya (nee Popoff), our beloved Mother (Baba) passed away suddenly on August 1st, 2004 in her 93rd year. Edna was born July 12th, 1912, in the village of Kristyanovka near Buchanan, SK, to Petro and Doonya Popoff. She was the youngest of four children; sister to Helen (Sysoev), Annie (Konkin) and brother Nick. Soon after, the family moved to the Kootenays where they resided in a Christian Community for several years. In 1918 the family returned to Saskatchewan to a village near Kylemore where Edna attended school and matured into adulthood. It was on Oct. 30th, 1934, that Edna and John Krivuzoff of Saskatoon were united in marriage. God blessed this union with two children, Natasha and Eugene. John and Edna operated Westside Coal and Wood Co. through hard times in the city. They were recognized by many of their customers for their understanding during those difficult times of need. During that same time, Edna wholeheartedly supported John's dream of a city-raised man becoming a farmer. That dream was finally realized in 1943 with the sale of the business and the purchase of a 320 acre farm in the Smithville district just West of the city. With Edna's farm knowledge and John's determination, together they fulfilled their dreams of becoming successful farmers. They retired to Saskatoon after 20 satisfying years on the farm. Edna was predeceased by her husband John in 1972, and she survived all of her siblings, brother Nick and sisters Helen and Annie. She is survived by her daughter Natasha (Victor) Pankoski, son Eugene (Jeannette); grandchildren Chantal Stark, Darrell Giesbrecht, Caroline (Scott) Sanderson and Brenda Krivuzoff; four great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Edna always portrayed a warm outgoing and sunny personality, a quiet strength and a resolve to meet any and all adversity. Above all, she was strong in her faith and held a deep pride in her heritage. May our Mom (Baba) rest in peace! Cremation. KROCZYNSKI - Mariam "Mary" (nee Swiderski) passed away peacefully after a long and healthy life, surrounded by loving family members on December 2, 2005 at Weatherby Extended Care, Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC. Mary was born in the RM of Invermay, SK on June 19, 1910 to pioneer parents, Nicholas and Paulina Swiderski and a family of seven brothers and sisters. There, Mary attended Dobrowody School. She met her loving soulmate Marian Kroczynski of Poland, in Wilkie, SK and they were married in Rama, SK in 1933. They had four children. Mary resided for most of her life in Saskatoon, SK and since moving to White Rock was longing to come back home. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Marian; her parents; her brothers, John, Marian and Frank; and by her sisters, Lena, Helen and Emily. She leaves to mourn her children, Eleanor Ritchie, Richard and Alice Kroczynski of Saskatoon, Diana Delver and Carol and Roy McCullough of Surrey, BC; her sister, Adelle Karkut of Ituna; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a paramount homemaker. Her life was dedicated to being a devoted, loving wife and mother. She took care of her family so that they always had tasty nutritious food, clean clothes and their homework done. She baked bread on the hottest days of the year and she could grow a garden, even in the 30's, that produced more than enough for her family and she could still give away lots to others. Mary taught her children the value of looking for the good in people, being nice to everyone, and respecting all religions and creeds. Mom was an active community and church member, a CWL member who loved to take part in bake sales and bazaar craft events. From childhood, she had a natural talent for design and sewing clothing. At the age of eight, she sewed herself a made-over blouse and skirt using a lovely tweed second-hand winter coat. From then on she was the seamstress! Her family always knew that whatever they wanted, Mary would come home and make it for them! As well, Mom was an interesting storyteller, especially stories about being a pioneer child on the homestead, Christmas Concerts, Chataqua, and the Hewsons. Mom always said that she enjoyed her life to the fullest, and that if she had to live it over again, that she would not change a thing. She accepted whatever life presented and believed in making the best of it. She had unwavering faith and was a model of what is decent and good in life. A wonderful, simple woman who lived an extraordinary life. She was ours for a short time, but will always live in our hearts. Thank you to all the wonderful nurses, recreation director, all the staff and patients at Weatherby for your kindness, gentleness and dedication in the car of our mother in her last years. She thought the world of you and appreciated everything. The Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church on 104th Street in Sutherland. Lunch will be served. Interment will be held on Saturday, December 10 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with family members present. LAPPI - Hilma M. (nee Hill) January 27, 1918 - January 19, 2010. It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Hilma Lappi at the age of 91 at St. Paul's Hospital. She was born in Wapella, Sask. to Dan and Hulda Hill. From a family of 13, she is survived by sisters, Sadie Towle of Portage la Prairie and Bertha Diewert of Kelowna. The Hill family moved to Meadow Portage, MB where Hilma grew up. She moved to Margo, SK where she met and married Jack Lappi. The couple established a farm and had a family of three children, Leonard, Phyllis and Vernon. Later on the couple moved to a house in Invermay, SK and eventually to an apartment in Saskatoon. Her husband Jack passed away November 28, 1981. Hilma is also survived by her children, Leonard (June, dec.), Phyllis (Bob Carey) and Vernon (Marilyn) and by grandchildren, Judy (Mike Judge), Glenn (Cecilia), Mark, Dean Carey (Jill), Pat Carey (Angie) and Megan (Richard Bader); as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Hilma was active in community work, curling and was great at baking and needlework, especially quilting and woven rugs. She also enjoyed playing cards. At mother's request there will be no funeral. The cremated remains will be interred alongside her those of her husband at a future date by family. The family is grateful to the attention and care by St. Paul's Hospital staff and Dr. Stewart. LETWINETZ - Carl was born on July 18th, 1920 on the family farm near Buchanan, SK to John and Annie Letwinetz. On Nov 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Anastasia Novakowski of the Brewer area. Their love for each other endured for 61 years. They resided in Melville, SK from 1968 to 1998 when they moved into Yorkton. Carl and Anne raised three children, daughters Cathy Letwinetz of Red Deer AB, Diane Salkeld of Yorkton SK and son Robert Letwinetz of Saskatchewan who predeceased them in 1988. Carl was a school teacher for 32 years. Teaching at mostly country schools, he enjoyed going to field meets and the challenge of teaching many grade levels. He then retired from teaching due to illnesses and worked at the Gulf Service Station in Melville for 10 years. He was a long standing member of the Father Pander Council of the Knights of Columbus in Melville, SK. Carl had many hobbies and interests. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a very skilled card player right up until the very end. Everyone liked playing cards with him and waited for his witty and very funny one liners. He also enjoyed his grandsons hockey games, word puzzles, reading, camping and spending time with family. Carl was a man of few words. He was quiet by nature but when did he speak, he did so with great sincerity. Having health issues throughout his whole life, he had many surgeries. But he always seemed to bounce back like the trooper he was. Even after months of being hospitalized, it was very seldom that he ever complained. He was constantly looking at the brighter side of things and staying positive, and usually being able to find the silver lining. Carl is predeceased by his wife Anastasia (Dec 2008), parents John and Annie Letwinetz, son Robert (Oct 1988), brothers Steve, Mike, Bill and Metro and sisters Annie and Dolly. He has left to mourn his passing daughters Diane Salkeld (Mike) of Yorkton SK, Cathy Letwinetz of Red Deer AB, special family friend Holly Miller of Saskatoon, seven grandchildren Bailey (Mike), Jessica (Bryan), and Morgan Salkeld, Jason (Miranda), Joel, and Cody Letwinetz, and Curtis Miller, two great grandchildren Jett (Jessica & Bryan) and Austin (Jason & Miranda), brother Sam (Helen), sister Mary (George) Hickie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. LOSHKA - Joseph Adam passed away peacefully at Pasqua Hospital on June 30, 2008 after a courageous but brief battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years Sylvia, two sons, Dory and Derek and grandson Caleb. Joe is survived by his father Joseph (Mary) Loshka; sister Mona (Stu) Brandt, Leah (Darren) Lozinsky; brothers Mel Loshka, Bradley (Candy) Loshka; mother-in-law Laura Prokoptez; sister-in-law Adeline (Fred) Kazakoff; brother-in-law Ken (Donna) Prokopetz, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Joe was predeceased by his mother Patricia Loshka; brother Kyle Loshka; father-in-law Metro Prokopetz and grandparents Mike (Polly) Loshka and John (Ustyna) Leniuk. Joe was born September 21, 1948 and grew up in Buchanan Saskatchewan. He was an avid sportsman and particularly enjoyed curling and golfing. Joe was employed by Sask Energy for 39 years at several locations before settling in Regina. He retired in 2005 and during his short retirement Joe's greatest enjoyments came from the time spent with his family at the cottage at Regina Beach. The family wishes to thank Dr. Whittick, Dr. McMillan and all those who worked and volunteered at the Palliative Care at Pasqua Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. LOUCKS - Bettine (nee Frost-Hunt) was born on August 14, 1916 to William and Elsie (nee Rowles) Frost-Hunt in Kelliher, Sask. She was the fifth child of five girls and two boys. The Frost-Hunt family moved to Leross where Bettine started school. The family moved to Invermay in 1925 where Bettine continued school and was a member of C.G.I.T. as a young girl. Bettine married Victor Loucks in October, 1932. They lived in a 2 room teacherage while Vic taught at Mainroad School until 1937 when they moved to the Loucks farm. Bettine endured many hardships during the ten years on the farm during the Depression and the war years. She adapted to the hard work with no electricity or running water and very little money, and became an accomplished homemaker, excelling at sewing, cooking and baking, even winning 1st prize for her butter and bread the first time she entered them in the agricultural fair (much to the chagrin of the older married ladies!) The family moved into the town of Invermay in 1947, where the 5 daughters were raised and Bettine added community service, competitive curling and bridge playing to her busy schedule. Bettine was a member of the Hospital Auxillary for 33 years and was an active member of the Ladies' Curling Club. In 1985 Vic and Bettine moved to Yorkton where they were both active with bowling, golf, church, kitchen band, card games and family. They frequently travelled to visit their daughters and their families as well as making trips across Canada, to England, Hawaii, Arizona and other locations in the U.S. Bettine passed away in her sleep Sunday afternoon, Feb.1, 2009 in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she had resided for the past 3 months. Prior,she had enjoyed living in the Bentley for 2 years. She was 92 years, 5 months and 18 days of age. Bettine was predecessed by her parents, her husband Vic of 74 years, brothers Pete and Buster, sisters Phyllis, Kitty, Josie, sons-in law, Jack Stewart and Corn Klippenstine. She leaves to celebrate her long life, her daughters: Vivianne (Gordon) Minken, Yorkton; Karen (Rod) Gerla, Calgary; Katherine (Fred) Klewchuk, Burnaby; Vicki Loucks, Vancouver; Jolyn Loucks, Saskatoon. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a sister Avis, Regina and many neices and nephews. The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Faye L. Greer officiating. The eulogy was given by Vicki Loucks, the lay-readers were Tanis and Tanya Klippenstein. Organist, Laurene Jemieff and pianist, Thelma Gillis, led members of the Westview and Theodre United Church Choirs in the singing of the hymns. Following a memorial luncheon in Westview lower hall, the interment took place in the family plot at the Invermay Cemetery. Daughtwer Jolyn was the urnbearer. LOUCKS - Victor, beloved husband of Bettine of Yorkton, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Thursday, October 26, 2006 in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a short stay in the Regina General Hospital. He was 100 years, 4 months and 6 days of age. Victor Wilson Loucks was born June 20, 1906 to Harry Artley (HA) Loucks and Eveleena Maud (Stephens) Loucks in Clear Creek, Ontario, the third of 7 children. He travelled to Invermay with his mother, older sister and brother to join his father in August 1907. His father had secured a homestead in Invermay in early 1907 and had a teaching position at Olivet School. Vic attended school to grade XI in Invermay. In 1924 he worked as a cream grader at the Invermay Creamery; and in 1925 he went east and worked as a cream grader and bookkeeper at a creamery in Oxford, Nova Scotia. He came back west in 1927, and he and his sister Edna completed grade XII in Nokomis. Vic farmed and operated a garage with his brother Cliff from 1928 through 1930. Following in his father's footsteps, he became a teacher, attending Normal School in Saskatoon graduating in 1931. He taught at the one-room rural schools of Mainroad and Loch Sloy, and later in Invermay until June 1937. While at Mainroad, he conducted a school band, which performed at various sports days during the summer months. The band won an award at a band festival in Canora. He played the cornet and for many years he played the Last Post at November 11 memorial services at the Cenotaph in Invermay. During his early teaching career he courted Bettine Frost-Hunt; they were married in 1932. Vic and Bettine enjoyed 74 years of married life. Their first child, Vivianne, was born the following summer. Vivianne arrived early and on the way to Canora Hospital at Arthur Dean's farm near Rama. Therefore, is Rama Post Office is Vivianne's place of birth on her birth certificate! A baby girl was quite a novelty with Mr. and Mrs. Dean and the five young Dean boys! In the fall of 1937, Vic and Bettine took over his father's farm just North of Invermay and their second daughter, Karen, was born. Three more daughters were later added to the family, Katherine, Vicki and Jolyn. Vic became Secretary-Treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Invermay #305 on April 18, 1942, taking over from his father, H.A. Loucks, who had been Secretary-Treasurer since January 1919. Vic retired as Secretary-Treasurer of the R.M. of Invermay on December 31, 1973. Vic never lost his love for the land and farming. He continued to farm part time from 1942 until he sold the land in 1980. Vic was very active in Invermay community life; Secretary Treasurer of the Village of Invermay 1947 - 1963; Member of the Canora Union Hospital Board 1951-1953; School trustee of Invermay School Board, 1958 and Chairman of the Board overseeing the building of a six room elementary school; a founding member of the Invermay Community Remembrance Hall Co-operative Association when the Community Hall was built in 1950; Elder of the United Church continuously from 1945 (several years as treasurer); Chairman of the Recreation Board; and Trustee for the Parkland Regional Library. Vic enjoyed curling since the first slab rink was built in Invermay in 1935. A sport he participated in until his mid-90s. In 1985 Vic and Bettine moved to Yorkton and maintained a lovely home and yard on Rosefield Drive until December 2004 at which time they moved to an apartment in Independent Manor. Vic and Bettine enjoyed life in Yorkton: golfing, curling, bowling, travelling, playing cards, camping and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. They joined the Westview United Church. Vic sang in the choir for many years. Vic was an avid golfer, becoming a life time member of the York Lake Golf & Country Club. He last enjoyed a 9-hole golf game with Vivianne in October of 2004, joined by John Miller and Manse Powell. He was 98. Vic was predeceased by his parents, brothers: Cliff and George, sisters: Edna, Bessie and Evelyn; and sons-in-law, Jack Stewart and Corn Klippenstine. He leaves to celebrate his long life his loving wife Bettine; his daughters, Vivianne (Gordon) Minken, Yorkton; Karen (Rod) Gerla, Calgary; Katherine (Fred) Klewchuk, Burnaby; Vicki Loucks, Vancouver; Jolyn Loucks, Yorkton. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and a brother, Wilfred (Bernadette) Calgary; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 from Westview United Church with Faye Greer officiating. Organist, Marilyn Newell led members of the church choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Family members participated in the service, Kevin Stewart gave the eulogy, and grandchildren Tannis, Tanya and Todd read scripture. Soloists: Sharon Coleman sang 'He', and Lori Erhardt sang 'Danny Boy'. The interment service took place Wednesday afternoon, November 1, 2006 at the Invermay Cemetery. A reception followed at the Invermay Community Hall. LUNGULL - Alex, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008. He was 89 years of age. Alex Lungull was born on May 2, 1919 in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan; a son of George and Annie (nee Osachuk) Lungull. He attended North Lake School. As a young man, Alex helped at home and also worked out for farmers in the district to earn extra money. The first thing he and his brothers bought with the extra money were bicycles, and they were very proud of them. In 1942 he enlisted into the Royal Canadian Army, and served with the Prince Albert Volunteers, training in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. During his training at Vernon, BC, Alex was united in marriage in 1943 to Helen Diak of Burgis. Following his discharge on March 8, 1944 he and Helen moved to Sudbury, Ontario where they both worked for IMC at the nickel mine. In 1945 the one and only daughter, Shirley was born. Shortly after that time they moved back to Saskatchewan, where they farmed in the Whitesand district, preferring the quieter pace of life that farming offered. In 1956 the family moved to a farm in the Good Spirit Lake district where Alex and Helen farmed side by side. Alex took great pride in his farming operation, and he was especially proud of his livestock. Besides the farm, in 1963 Alex began working for Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park in the maintenance department. He retired in 1984. In 1975 the couple moved into Yorkton and soon after Alex joined the Yorkton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He helped with bingo's for 14 years, along with working at countless raffles. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit and received a lifetime membership in the Legion. He also belonged to the Optimist Club, where he worked bingo's and received the Optimist of the Year award. He enjoyed socializing, especially going for coffee with his buddies, playing baseball in his younger days, cards, pool, bowling, horseshoes, darts, hunting, fishing, and gardening in his huge back yard. Taking time for a family vacation was also a special time. He enjoyed watching boxing, wrestling and baseball (especially the Jay's) on TV. Alex was a man of dignity, he possessed poise and good manners, he was very hospitable and showed genuine interest in conversation with others, be it a happy or sad time. He was well known for his quick wit and humor amongst his friends. He was also one to voice his opinion if he did not agree about something. Following the death of Helen in 2001, Alex continued to live on his own with the great help of his daughter Shirley, in the last couple of years he would say to Shirley, "what would I do without you". Before becoming a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in September of 2006, Alex resided with his daughter and son-in-law for two years. Alex fought bravely with his illness the past six months of his life. Alex was predeceased by his wife Helen on June 22, 2001; his father George and his mother Annie; brothers: Bill, Mike, John, Tom & Nick; sisters: Nellie Lungull, Sadie Hansen and Alice Koroll as well as three infant sisters and two infant brothers in the Ukraine: Mary, Doris and Kathy and Michael and Nick. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter Shirley and her husband Grant Fandrey of Yorkton; a granddaughter Shantelle Sheree Roebuck and her husband Shayne of Theodore. Sisters: Mary Frey of Lethbridge, AB; Evelyn Marks of St. Catherine's, Ontario; also a sister-in-law, Olga Lungull of Hudson Bay, SK and many nieces and nephews who were very special to him. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Juyly 16, 2008 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. James Pedwell officiated. Hymns played were In the Garden, Peace in the Valley, and Blessed Assurance. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark with Ervin Lungull, Clifford Lungull, Doug Fandrey, Emil Diak, Ron Jarvis, and Anthony Dziaduck serving as the casketbearers. A reception followed in the Family Centre Reception Room. MACALA - Nettie "Nina" (nee Klimuk). On December 20, 2010 at the age of 82 years, Nettie Macala, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Born in Kleweck, Poland, Nettie immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1930 and they settled in Arabella, SK. In 1947, Nettie graduated from Scott Business College in Saskatoon. Her first job was with the Royal Bank in Invermay, SK, where she met and married Walter Macala in December 1948. They settled and farmed in Invermay, where they raised their family of six children. Nettie worked as the Secretary/ Treasurer for the Invermay Rural Telephone Company and the Invermay Feeder Co-operative, until the late 1970's. Nettie was an avid gardener and won many awards for both garden and yard through the local agricultural society. She was a 4-H club leader for many years. Both Nettie and Walter were active members of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church (Rama, SK.) Nettie was a gracious hostess, and enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbours over a cup of tea, or a delicious home cooked meal. Nettie was passionate about politics, and loved to discuss politics at any opportunity. She was an ardent supporter of the New Democratic Party. Nettie was inspired by the words of Tommy Douglas, Courage my friends, tis not too late to build a better world. Nettie's devotion to the Roman Catholic faith motivated her to complete the Lay Ministry program in 1992. She was a member of the Archdiocese of Regina Social Justice Committee, and was a supporter of Development and Peace. This journey kindled many life-long friends. She was a talented artist, and painted many beautiful scenes and wildlife paintings. Nettie was a voracious reader, and enjoyed books about politics and religion/spirituality. She loved to crochet, and shared her creations with many. Nettie relocated to Pilot Butte, SK. in 1999. She became a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church and the Pilot Butte Seniors' Club. Nettie was predeceased by her husband Walter (1987); parents Terenty (Tom) and Paraska (Pearl) Klimuk; parents-in-law Zygmund and Lena Macala; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Mike Dennis; brother John Klimuk; sister-in-law/ brother-in-law, Olga and Louis Fullawka; sister-in-law, Mary Macala; brother-in-law Walter Kereluk. She will be missed and remembered by her four sons, two daughters and their families: Phillip (Judy) Justina (Joe) and their son Jonah; Jonathan (Amanda). Edward (Lori) Robert and Carla (Todd). Alphonse (Roxane) Kimberly and Darrell. Lawrence (Ginette) Jeremy (Amanda) and Brigitte. Mariann (Ole) Rasmussen Blair, Brett, Alex and his daughter Fynley, Lisa, Katie, Kirsten. Therese (Bruce) Cook Kyle, Christopher and his daughter Jayden, and Tyson. Nettie will also be missed by her sister and brother-in-law Olga and Arnold Giddings; sister-in-laws Helen Klimuk and Mary Kereluk; and brother-in-law Mike Macala; as well as many nieces and nephews. With great sadness, we wish to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Irene Hester MacCuish on Sunday November 9, 2008 at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. Irene was born April 20, 1932 at Buchanan, SK on the family farm where she grew up. She attended Dydland School and Buchanan High School before continuing her education at Yorkton where she attained her degree in Nursing in 1953. She embarked on her career at Neilburg, SK where she met and married Merlyn MacCuish. They moved where Merlyn's teaching career took them through the province before settling permanently in LeRoy, SK. Irene continued her professional career there while raising her family. She was matron at LeRoy Union Hospital at its closure and took on the role of coordinator for the residents at LeRose Lodge as it came to be known. She was employed at other workplaces in the community through the years but that which was closest to her heart was the LeRoy Ambulance Service. Irene was key in establishing the ambulance service in the mid-seventies, furthered her academics with EMT training in 1982, organized LeRoy's EMO, and took part in staff training, teaching both first aid and CPR. Irene was `nurse on call' for the community for many years, medical advice was sought even in her retirement. Leisure time was spent with her cherished family and the outdoors nurturing her garden and flowers and fruit trees with the same attention she gave to her patients. Favoured activities and interests included card playing, reading, genealogy, local history, politics, and an active social life. Irene will be lovingly remembered by five children, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild: Shauna (Dan) Viczko of Saskatoon and family, Rachelle Viczko and her son Aaron Trenten, Stacey Viczko, and Travis Viczko; Cheryl (Nelson) Hare of Rosetown and family, Sean Hare, Kylie Hare and Koryn Hare; Ian (Elaine) MacCuish of LeRoy and family, Bobby MacCuish and Jenny MacCuish; Charlene (Marvin) Lang of Colonsay and family, Catherine Lang and Patrick Lang; and Dana MacCuish of Viscount; one brother, Michael Swetleshnoff of Buchanan; one sister, Dianne Klein of Red Deer, AB; brothers-in-law, Glen and Don MacCuish; sister-in-law, Allie MacCuish; and by numerous nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Bernice Maksymiw, on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the age of 92. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Polly Kapiniak; her husband, Bill (May 1, 1983); her siblings, brothers, Jack, Frank, Joe and Walter Kapiniak and sisters Rose Tataryn, Emily Kitzan and Nellie Kapiniak; her brother-in-laws Bill Kitzan and Walter Tataryn, and her sister-in-laws Olga Kapiniak and Julia Kapiniak. She is survived by her five children: Jane (Nick) Markewich, Rudy (Dorothy), Ed (Fran), Alfred (Marlene) and Bernie (Elaine); twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her brother Mike Kapiniak, numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Bernice (Kapiniak) Maksymiw was born June 6, 1917 on a Saskatchewan farm in the Dobrowody district, south-west of Preeceville. On July 12, 1935, Bernice was married to Bill Maksymiw at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rama, Saskatchewan. They remained on the farm from 1935 to 1947 and then moved to Preeceville where she resided until her passing. Mom worked hard to manage a large garden and can food for the family. She loved her flowers. Mom loved to pass on her care packages of perogies, cabbage rolls, cheese rolls, and borscht any time her children visited. Hospitality was Mom's greatest talent. She was a wonderful cook and no one went away hungry. She was always prepared for visitors. Her great cooking skills led her to be employed at the Century House restaurant for a number of years. In Mom's earlier years she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Mom's greatest enjoyment was her outings and visits in person or by telephone, with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was an accepting, kind, caring and loving woman always putting the happiness and welfare of others ahead of herself. We will miss her. MATLOCK - Gertrude Ethel Jean (nee Howe) March 13, 1922 - December 16, 2009. Gertrude Ethel Jean passed away at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 87 years on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Penny (Bernard) Laarveld and grandsons Vincent Avery of Calgary and Brian Edward of Saskatoon; sister Joyce Matthews and niece Wendy (Gary) Green of Burnaby, B.C. and nephew Gary (Janet) Matthews and children Darren and Jennifer of Langley, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband Avery Elwood in 2001 and by their daughter Llona Mae in 1970. Jean was born to Albert LeRoy and Sarah Margaret Howe (nee Cameron) in Roblin, MB. She grew up in Rama, Invermay and Ketchen, SK. Jean trained at Normal School (1943-44) and for several years taught grades 1-12 at Langenou, Ebenezer district, where she met Avery, and then worked at the Bank of Montreal in Yorkton. Jean married Avery on June 4, 1951. After living in Winnipeg for many years, the family returned to farm the homestead in Gorlitz, SK. Here she was very active as bookkeeper for the Curling Club and the Ebenezer Telephone Co. In 1984 she and Avery retired to Saskatoon. Jean was a vibrant and caring woman who always maintained a great outlook on life, even during times of hardship. Family and friendships were very important to her. The family wishes to thank Dr. R.K. Avinashi and the attending staff at St Paul's Hospital for their kindness and dedication to Jean during her illness, the staff at Oliver Lodge and at Baraka Care Home. The family also wishes to thank Jean's dear friends Kay Marteniuk, Theresa Richards, Margaret Pawluck and Grace Remenda for their friendship and support, especially as her health declined. A memorial service will be held at interment at the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby B.C. at a future date. MATSALLA - Jean (nee Pelegia). The passing of our dear Auntie Jean occurred peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2005 at Saskatoon City Hospital. Jean was born October 16, 1915 in the Buchanan, SK. district. She is survived by her sisters Annie Fullawka (Saskatoon) and Genevieve Heath (Calgary), her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Emily Matsalla (Sylvan Lake) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Pelegia, her brother Louis, her sisters Sophie Garbus and Mary Vektoris. She was everyone's favorite Aunt and was known as Auntie Jean by many. She was also the family perogy and "Jamaican " beef patty maker. Jean worked for Saskatchewan Cooperative Creamery and Sask Power in various towns including Canora, Young, Yorkton, Humboldt, Melfort and Wynyard. While in Wynyard she developed a talent for pottery and created several nice pieces. She retired to Saskatoon where she traveled often to Victoria, Calgary and Windsor to visit her brother and sisters and their families. She also traveled extensively to England, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Australia, and Hawaii and across Canada and parts of the U.S. During her retirement she spent many summers at Turtle Lake Lodge enjoying fishing and mushroom and berry picking. We will truly miss her beautiful smile and kind and gentle ways. We would like to extend our thanks to all the staff and her friends at Caleb Manor-Emmanuel Village for all their caring and kindness. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at City Hospital for making Auntie Jean's last day as comfortable as possible. MURPHY - Helen (nee McKetsy) passed away with her family at her side on Thursday, November 6, 2003 after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Helen is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Pat (Carmella) and their children, James Murphy, Tammy Murphy-Becker (Mark); Marie Work and her children, Kimberley and Sean; Judy Kuling and her children, Peter John, Luke and Lia; Colleen (Gord) Beresh and their children, Andrew, Erin, Joel, Christopher and Graham; great-grandchildren, Kayli, Nathan, Jarred and Paige; and a sister, Doris (Charlie) Knight. She was predeceased by her son, James Lawrence; her parents and several brothers and sisters. Mom loved her family and enjoyed having her kids, grand kids and great grand kids visit at her home. Mom was an Elementary School Teacher for 26 years. She taught at Mainrod, Rama and Yorkton. She loved music and hearing her family sing, as well as holiday get togethers. Her faith remained strong and helped her throughout her illness. Her siblings would like to thank their sister, Marie for all the help she gave mom throughout her illness. MURPHY - James "Jim" Luke passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the age of 82. Jim is survived by his children, Pat (Carmella) and their children James, Tammy (Mark); Marie Work and her children Kimberley and Sean; Judy Kuling and her children Peter John, Luke and Lia; Colleen (Gord) Beresh and their children Andrew, Erin, Joel, Christopher, and Graham; great-grandchildren Kayli, Nathan, Jared, and Paige; and his brother Claude (Peggy); and sisters June Snell, Florence (Lorne) Shane, Della Dewart, Irma (Bill) Johns, Claire and sisters-in-law Jean Murphy and Doris (Charlie) Knight. He was predeceased by his wife Helen (McKetsy) and his son James Lawrence; his parents Luke and Clara (Myrfield) and his brother Jack and sister Dorothy. Jim married Helen McKetsy in 1948 and together they raised five children. Dad loved his family and enjoyed having everyone over for holiday meals and family get togethers. Dad enjoyed curling, playing cards, music, dancing, shuffleboard, bowling, hunting, and owning thoroughbred racehorses. Dad farmed near Mainroad School and worked as a cattle buyer in Rama. In 1961 the family moved to Yorkton where Dad worked as a horse buyer. In 1996, Dad suffered a debilitating stroke from which he never fully recovered. The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff and residents of the Lutheran Sunset Home for the friendship and loving care they gave to Dad during his stay with them. We would also like to thank Marie Work, Dr. Paul Tallion and Dr. Brian Martens for their care of Dad during his long illness. MUZICHUK - Isabel of Buchanan, Sask. passed away December 8, 2009 in Regina, Sask. at the age of 70. Interment St. Mary's Orthodox Church cemetery (Blue Church). NAWROCKI - Polly (nee Wiazek), formerly of Yorkton, widow of John Nawrocki passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at her home in Regina. She was 91 years, 1 month and 10 days of age. Polly Nawrocki was born on March 3, 1911 at Rama, Saskatchewan; a daughter of Francis (nee Andruhiu) and Albin Wiazek (Wionzek). She and her two brothers and one sister were raised on the family farm. In 1933 she was united in marriage to John Nawrocki. John worked on the railway at Sylvania, Saskatchewan and also farmed three miles south-east of Sylvania. After purchasing more land the family moved in 1945 to a new location two miles from Sylvania, where they continued to farm and raise their family. The couple retired in 1970 and purchased a home in Yorkton. Polly spent many contented hours in her garden, and knitting and crocheting items for her family and friends. John passed away in 1981 and following that time Polly remained in her home until 1990, when she became a resident of the Clements Court in Yorkton. In 1999 she moved to Regina into a private senior care home near her son and daughter-in-law Orest & Lucille. While in Regina, she spent her time knitting for her grandchildren, friends, for 'Blankets for Canada', and the Salvation Army. She was an instigator of activities and banter at the home until her stroke on March 25th. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a daughter, Della Robertson in 2000, by two brothers, Joe & Louis, and by her sister Mary. OKRAINETZ - Peter, beloved husband of Elizabeth Okrainetz of Invermay passed away suddenly on April 27th, 2007 at the Kelvington Hospital at the age of 79 years. Peter was born on March 2nd, 1928 in the Rama District to Vincent and Mary (nee Yawney) Okrainetz. Peter is lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth (nee Kresak); his two sons: Boris (Debbie) Okrainetz of Allan, SK and Methodius (Glenda) Okrainetz of Saskatoon, SK; his two daughters: Audrey (Gordon) McLelland of Saskatoon and Karen (Darrell) Slugoski of St. Albert, AB; his four brothers: Joe of Canora, SK, Mike (Olga) of Saskatoon, Frank (Jennie) of Hamilton, ON and Carl (Nettie) of Canora, SK; his three sisters: Adeline (John) Bosovich of Wadena, SK, Rose Moroz of Wainwright, AB and Stella Grona of Rama, SK; his five grandchildren: Tanya (Greg) Brons of Saskatoon, SK, Shannon (Robin) Hahn of Melville, SK, Ryan Okrainetz (Jana Duchinski) of Saskatoon, Evan, Jesse and Reed Okrainetz all of Saskatoon, SK. PANCHYK - William "Bill" passed away at the age of 83 years on November 4, 2011. He is dearly missed by his children; David (Kathy) Panchyk of Salisbury, Maryland, Lisa Solie (Steven) and grandson Harrison of Airdrie, AB; his sister Mary Nemitz and brother Matt (Nettie) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was born and raised on the family farm near Invermay, SK. and moved to Regina in the 1950s. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Anna; brothers, Steve, John; and sisters, Anna, Kate Riou and Lena Tomyn. Bill spent his working life in TV sales and repair. He had many long-time customers of his Zenith Electric business on 13th Avenue and Albert Street in Regina. Dad was a fix-it man and relished in performing his trade to the best of his ability. After retiring, Dad was happy to spend his days at home, maintaining his house and yard; feeding the birds in the backyard and going dancing on the weekend. He was healthy and enjoyed life up until the time of his passing. PASITNEY - Annie (nee Koshman), age 85 years of St. Volodymyr Villa, Saskatoon, SK passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on Friday, August 22, 2008. Annie was born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan September 30, 1922, where she grew up and attended Sutherland School. She met and married her husband, John in 1938 thus moving to the farm in Rama, Saskatchewan. She encountered the hardships on the farm raising three sons by herself during the time of the war while John served. This was where she learned how to cook a meal from nothing. In 1948 she moved back to Sutherland where she lived with John on Central Avenue raising her family until October 1, 2000. Her next move was to the wonderful staff and residents at St. Volodymyr Villa. The family can't thank them enough. Her five sons were the heart of her life. She never lost her way in loyalty, commitment and love. She was a protector to all. There are absolutely no words that can describe the utmost love that she carried. The love of God in her brought everybody towards her to be her friend and companion. She will never be forgotten. She is survived by her sons, Oscar (Joan) of Port Alberni, BC, Bob (Pam) of Edmonton, AB, Jerry (Judy) of Kelowna, BC, Dave (Debbie) of Saskatoon, SK, Don (Nan) of Thailand; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one sister, Rose Thomas of Saskatoon, SK; one brother, John (Nellie) Koshman of Saskatoon, SK, one sister in law, Helen Koshman; and numerous nieces and nephews. On Saturday, March 28, 2009 Ray passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 77 years. Ray was born on October 13, 1931 in Rama, SK to Louis and Mary Pasloske. After coming to Regina Ray began a career in the hair sytling profession where he met Florence Shields, who he married in 1961 and they continued in the profession together for over 50 years. Ray was predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary; brother-in-law Joseph Grzyb; and niece Michelle Pasloske. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Florence; daughters Ramona, Lisa Cave, Laurie (Jeff) Smith and Arla-Rae (Alan) High and son-in-law Gordon Cave. He will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren Spencer, Amelia and Kendra Cave, Riley and Jarrod Smith, and Lindsey and Kaitlyn High; brothers and sisters Leona (Leo) Gunia, Al (Mary) Pasloske, Dolores Grzyb, Chris (Anne) Pasloske and Gloria (Brad) Montague; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was an avid sports fan whose favourite teams included the Riders, Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. In the later years woodworking became an enjoyable hobby and many days and nights would find him in his garage working on things for family and friends. His resemblance in look and character to Santa Claus brought him much enjoyment. Pasloski were residents and farmed at the Rama District for many years and moved to the town of Preeceville for their retirement years. He is predeceased by his father Michael and sister Shirley Pilkey. The buying and selling of time held a great facination for Ed. He enjoyed the fellowship shared with his auction buddies over the years. A celebration o f Ed's life will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East on Saturday, October 7, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. PETERSON - Elizabeth Marion Jean (nee Edgar). On Friday Aug 19th, 2005, Elizabeth Marion Jean Peterson age 82 died peacefully and with dignity at the Elmview Extendicare nursing home in Regina where she resided since May 2005. Jean was born on July 6, 1923 in the Canora Hospital to Stanley and Marion (nee Millar) Edgar. She lived in Buchanan until the age of 18 when she moved to Invermay to work for the Royal Bank. She was transferred to Yorkton in 1944 with the Royal Bank. She was married to Louis Peterson in 1945 at St Andrews United Church in Yorkton in a double ceremony with her best friend Aileen. She started to work for the employment office in 1954 and stayed there until 1959. While raising her kids at home she opened her own yarn shop Yarn N' Things first in her basement in 1973 then at the lower level Yorkton Hotel in 1979. She retired in 2003 at the young age of 80 and moved to Regina in 2004 to be closer to her daughter. She will be sadly missed by her son, Craig and his wife Karen Peterson, daughter, Lois and her husband Terry Tzupa, grandchildren, Shaun, Tiffany, Kyla, Jesse, Breanna, and Damian. Sisters Phyllis and her husband Pete Sayes, Tannis and her husband Dave Walters, and brother Grant and his wife Vona Edgar, as well as all of her nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at Christie Hill Funeral Chapel in Yorkton at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23. Interment will be at a later date. PETRYK - Joyce Evelyn (nee Tkachuk) August 14, 1938 - July 7, 2009. Joyce's family is deeply saddened to announce her passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born in Buchanan on August 14, 1938, the oldest child of Joe and Mary (Pankevich) Tkachuk. She attended school at Hryhoriw, then Preeceville. She married Mike Petryk, the love of her life, on August 4, 1955. They were blessed with five children. Joyce will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Mike; her sons, Michael (Tracy) and Matthew (Cheryl); her daughter, Laurey (Brett) Wagar; her eight grandchildren: Ryan, Alyssa, Kristyn (Evan Froc), Jared (Meaghan), and Jonathan (Crystal) Petryk; Kalana, Kiandra, and Kiara (Adam Bichel) Wagar, and one great grandson, Thomas Petryk. Joyce is also survived by her mother, Mary Tkachuk; brother, Marvin (Jane) Tkachuk; sisters, Sally (Jerry) Sawka, Phyllis (Joe) Diakow, Joanne (Laurie) Meberg, Cindy (Ted) Wardle; and sisters-in-law, Nellie Petryk and Mary Stein. Joyce was predeceased by her father, Joe Tkachuk; infant children, Metro and Josephine; Mike's parents, Dymetro and Mary (Bodnar) Petryk; and in-laws: Ben, Eileen, and Pete Petryk, Rosie and Alex Olszewski, Carl Stein, and Morley Mattison. Joyce and Mike were the foundation for their family's love, living in Uranium City and Winnipeg before settling south of Kelvington, where they built and operated Petryk's Esso Service Station. After selling the Service Station, Joyce and Mike moved their family to Saskatoon in 1966, where they resided until Joyce's passing. Joyce and Mike purchased Prairie Water in 1973 and ran the water well drilling company as a family business with Mike and Michael managing, and Joyce being the secretary and managing their many ventures. Joyce was a talented Ukrainian Easter egg artist, and her framed works hang in many Saskatchewan homes. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and was passionate about her family, which she gathered in her kitchen almost every Sunday for over 50 years. Joyce will be remembered for her quiet affectionate nature, her gentle spirit and her incredible gifts of kindness and love. The family expresses special thanks to Joyce's health care givers at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, R.U.H. 6100, 6200, and 6300, and St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, as well as her health care professionals, especially Dr. Paula Schwann, Dr. Michael Voralia, and Dr. Moulod El-Agnaf. The prayer service for Joyce will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009. Peacefully in the early evening of Friday, February 5, 2010 Bill passed away at the age of 93 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. On May 18, 1916, Bill the 4th of 10 children was born on to John & Pearl (nee Shumay) Popowich in the Whitesand District. He was raised on the family farm and attended North Lake School. Bill entered the work force at a very young age as a farm hand on numerous farms in the area. During this time he met Olga Furman. The couple were married on October 12, 1941 and together they settled on a farm six miles south of Buchanan. They were blessed with three children, Stanley, Shirley and Donna. In 1959 the family moved to Yorkton where Bill found employment at Matheson Bros. Construction, Logan Stevens Construction and Mastercraft Millwork. Bill's expertise was concrete work, but he also was an excellent finishing carpenter for which he had received his Journeyman's Certificate. His best tools were his square, level and trowel. He was a perfectionist and anything he built stood the test of time, and was nothing short of perfect. His philosophy was "do it right the first time, measure twice, cut once." Bill enjoyed dancing, listening to boxing on the radio and later watching hockey. He always enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family, who were his pride and joy. Upon retiring, Bill took great pleasure in growing a garden and making sure he had plenty of potatoes to share with everyone. After Olga became ill Bill focused his attention to taking care of her and less of his garden. He believed in and followed the ten commandments and every night he thanked God with a prayer. Bill was predeceased by his wife Olga on March 30, 2005; his parents, John & Pearl Popowich; sisters: Pauline Chupa & Dora Biblow; a brother Mike; brothers-in-law: Paul Wasylkiw, Mike Biblow and Bill Chupa. PROKOPETZ - George passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 4, 2004. George is survived by special friend Janet Florizone; son Steven (Susan Bachelder); daughter Nancy (Darren Anweiler). He is also survived by two terrific grandchildren Ethan and Emily, who were here to visit grandpa this summer. George was born December 2, 1932, on the family farm near Buchanan, Sask. After moving to Saskatoon, he began working in the operating room at SCH (1955). As well as working in the O.R. George was also playing 'stand up' Bass locally, to support his income. In 1961 George married Louise (Taylor). George and Louise loved to go visiting or have company over. Many will remember great parties at the Prokopetz house. In 1980 George transferred to the maintenance department, where he maintained beautiful flower beds and lush lawns, until his retirement in 1991. In 1997 George suffered a terrible loss when his love Louise left his side. George remained active after Louise's passing. He spent many hours doing work with the church as a member of UOMA TYC . George was not a great housekeeper, but was great with things that grew. Anyone who was fortunate to be treated to a feast at George's, knows his ability to cook and create a good time. George will be missed by his small family and the multitude of friends that enjoyed his company. John was born in the Buchanan, Saskatchewan district on May 9, 1918. During the war years John worked for Malton Industries in Toronto, building Lancaster bombers. In 1951 John returned to Saskatchewan where he owned and operated the hotel at Hyas for seven years, the hotel at Burstall for a couple of years and then in 1959 he took over the Kings Hotel in Shaunavon which he operated until 1974. John served for several years as a Director for the Hotel Association of Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his wife Frances, one son Lawrence, his sister Mary and his brothers Bill, Mike, Bob, Sam and Pat. Interment of the cremains will be done at a later date in Kamsack., Sask. SCHOENHOFEN - Mary (nee Hyrnkiw) August 20, 1911 - December 7, 2004. On Tuesday, December 7, 2004, Mary passed away peacefully in the presence of family at the Capilano Court private care home in Moose Jaw at the age of 93 years. The daughter of Ignace and Agnes Hrynkiw (Glowacki), Mary was born in the Dobrowody District near Rama Saskatchewan. She spent her young years on the family farm. In 1934, she left the farm and moved to Englefeld, Saskatchewan where she stayed with her sister and brother-in-law, Annie and Paul Kozak. On July 28, 1936, she married William Walter Schoenhofen in Englefeld. Her husband's job with the Canadian National Railway system saw them move frequently to many locations in Saskatchewan including; Watson, White Horn, Usherville, back to Englefeld and Mikado. Following her husband's death in 1961, she moved to Canora where she resided until 2002. At that time, her failing health required a move to a care home in Moose Jaw where she would be closer to family support. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by numerous nieces and nephews, her mother in 1931, an infant son Richard in 1940, her father in 1953, brothers Bill, Peter and John, sisters Grace and Annie and daughter-inlaw Gayle Schoenhofen in 1980. She is survived by her son Edward (Brenda) Schoenhofen of Regina, four grandchildren; Tanis Weir (Regina), Ian Schoenhofen (Katrina DiTullio) (Ottawa), Kris Schoenhofen (Donnell) (Regina) and Alyssa Baade (Ryan) (Regina Beach); two great grandchildren Evan Schoenhofen (Regina) and Aiden Weir and two special nieces Mary Kozak and Ann Pasloski both of Canora. Mary lived a simple and frugal life, supported by an unwavering Christian faith. Her greatest pleasures in life were socializing with family and friends, adoring her grandchildren and great grandchildren, marveling at the wonders of nature and caring about the well being of living creatures. To celebrate her life, a Prayer Vigil was held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canora Saskatchewan on Sunday December 12th at 7:30 P.M. On Monday, December 13th, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the same location at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at the Canora Cemetery where Mary will once again join her husband. With her family at her side and with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Olga Shinkewski, on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. Surviving are her children, Larry (Iris) Shinkewski of Calgary, AB, Orest (Dianne) Shinkewski of Saskatoon, SK, Terry (Wayne) Daniels of Brandon, MB, Don (Deb) Shinkewski of Grande Prairie, AB, and Sonia (Wayne) Cox of Saskatoon, SK; her grandchildren, Cecilia, Angela, Eugene, Rod, Jason (Vannesa), Jamie (Jamie), Laurel (Dan) and Preson; her great-grandchildren, Alexa, Alexys and Lliam; her sister, Mary (Harry) Peteryshen of Sherwood Park, AB; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Emilia Olga Orlowski was born in Tuffnell, SK on December 5, 1926 to Clem and Ethel Orlowski. Olga received her education in the Invermay district. Her father paid her to work on the farm in order for her to take a sewing course. In 1945 she received her diploma from Madeline Design School for tailoring and pattern making in Saskatoon. While going to school she worked in various restaurants. On June 2, 1946 she married Andrew Shinkewski. They farmed north of Invermay for 33 years. Mom was very active in church activities such as secretary of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, hosting barn dances at their farm to raise money for church functions, and held bazaars. She drove kids to baseball games in various small communities. Mom sewed many dresses and made her children's snowsuits. She knit sweaters, toques and mittens. Because she loved to bake, mom made wedding cakes and the last one was for her cousin Eugene Suchoboki. In 1960 mom lost her sight, however she just became involved in a different life and participated in CNIB training programs. She believed if a rabbit really tried, it probably could climb a tree. Mom moved to Saskatoon in 1979 where she became a member of the phoning committee for the CNIB. She met a lot of friends through the White Cane Club, bowling and cribbage. She was never idle. She won several trophies for crib and bowling. In 1981 she became a caregiver for her mother at her trailer after being an apartment manager. Mom had gone on numerous trips to Ontario, BC, Alberta and Manitoba with her children. Because she was so independent, she would travel alone on the bus to visit her kids. In 1999 she had heart surgery and shortly after that sold her trailer and moved into her daughter Sonia's place. She still wanted to be independent. The Lions Club picked her up for different functions, carpet bowling, alley bowling, cribbage tournaments, and meetings at the CNIB. Mom always spoke highly of the Lions drivers. In 2002 Mom again had health issues, breast cancer. Mom survived and continued enjoying her life traveling to her children's places to help with gardening, baking bread, canning and, of course, playing some cards. Last year she decided to recycle bed sheets and crocheted over 100 rugs. She will be missed by all her pets: Lucky, Sasha, Jake and Pumba. They were always waiting for her visits and stayed by her side. SHUKIN - Alexeij Nikolai "Alex" died peacefully on 15 July 2009 after a 13 year battle with prostate cancer. Born on 21 December 1930 on his grandparents' (Alexeij Shukin and Lusha (Dergousoff) homestead near Buchanan, Saskatchewan, Alex may have been best known as a northern outfitter; however, throughout his life he wore many hats. He was a farmer, businessman, mayor, musician, fisherman, curler, and pilot. His larger than life, colorful persona will be missed by his family and many friends. For Alex, every day was a good day! He lived life to the fullest, making the most of every unique opportunity. He was preceded in death by his father, Nick; mother, Molly (Salikin); sister, Molly Popoff (Peter); brother, Nick (Sylvia); son, Wayne; and nephews Grant Shukin, Nicholas Popoff. He is survived by his loving wife and friend, Victorine (Laliberte) and their daughter Suzanne Petryshyn (Trever) and two granddaughters Alexa, Molly; by his first love and wife of 23 years, Gene (Yaremko) and their four daughters Karen Semchuk, Barbara Baker (Rick), Debora Russell, Shelley Sanders (Ed); two sons, Brian and Dana (Harvey), Darcy and Natalie (Blouin); 11 grandchildren, Ryshanna (Baker) Bellisle (Achilles), Cassandra (Baker) Neufeld (Sheldon), Anastasia Hendrickx, Alyssan (Semchuk) Gauthier (Kyler), Angela (Hendrickx) Shaw (Adam), Kathryn Shukin, Sandra Shukin, Tyler Russell, Gabrielle Shukin, Nikita Shukin, Mikiel Shukin; and six great grandchildren (Austin Shanks, Brooklynn Bellisle, Isaac Shaw, Carter Shaw, Justin Bellisle, Broderick Shukin); and his nephews, Lawrence Popoff, Nicholas Shukin, James Shukin; nieces, Katherine Shukin, Caroline (Shukin) Moran, Loretta (Shukin) Magnusson; and stepchildren, Karen (Edquist) Roy, Eldin Edquist (Carol Buffin); and their families. At Alex's request, a memorial service will not be held. SHUMAY - Jean (nee Kosar) passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2006 at the age of 93. Although there is sadness at her death, family and friends are able to take comfort from contemplating the riches of her life. Jean was born in Buchanan; Sask. Nov. 12 1912. She married John Shumay in 1934 and took on the responsibilities of a farm wife and raising a family. Jean was a devoted wife and mother who put family first. She lived her life with grace and dignity; an amazing woman full of love and caring. All those who knew her can attest to her inquiring mind and her interest in life which remained constant until the time of her death. Mom left a legacy of love, generosity and selflessness, strength, compassion and family values. Jean was predeceased by her husband John, sons Donald (infant), Stephen and George, sonin-law Steve Spelay and grandson Blaine Spelay and parents Steve and Agnes Kosar and brothers and sisters. Jean is survived by her loving family, daughters, Mildred Spelay, Agnes (Boris) Titus, Jeanette (Marvin) Williams, son Bill (Zoria) Shumay, daughter-in-law Shirley Shumay and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and several step brothers and sisters. Mom touched the hearts of all those who knew her. We love her and will miss her dearly. A funeral service and mass will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, Sask. on Saturday, July 22nd at 11:00 a.m. SHUMAY - Wasyl "Bill". At Rest with the Lord. Wasyl "Bill" Shumay passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on January 6, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Bill was born in 1920 and raised at the family farm near Buchanan. He married Mary Franko from Theodore in 1943, and spent the next few years farming in the Drobot district. In 1947 he moved his young family to Trail, B.C. to pursue new opportunities with Cominco, where he enjoyed a successful 31-year career. During his working life he was involved in various fraternal and community organizations and gave several years of leadership service to the Scouting movement. He was also an avid curler and fisherman. After retiring in 1979 he and Mary returned to their Saskatchewan roots and bought a home in Regina, where he kept busy with gardening, yardwork, and a parttime job at the Regina Inn. Since 2001 Bill has lived at the William Booth Special Care Home. He leaves to mourn his wife of 66 years, Mary (also a resident at William Booth) as well as his sons Don and Randy, his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. SLIVA - Stephen "Steve", beloved husband of Frances Sliva of Yorkton, formerly of the Dobrowody area passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 82 years of age. Stephen (Steve) John Sliva was born on July 10, 1926 in the Dobrowody area, a son of Antonius and Pauline (Dmytriw) Sliva. He was the youngest of the five brothers and sisters. Steve was raised on the family farm and attended the Olesha School. On November 6, 1950 he was united in marriage to Frances Kwasny in the Roman Catholic Church in Rama, Saskatchewan. Following their marriage they took over the family farm and were blessed with two wonderful children, daughter Sylvia (1953) and son Dennis (1956). Steve served as chairman of the Olesha School for approximately 5 years. In 1967 they made the decision to leave the farm and move to Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Steve then started working at Morris Rod Weeder where he worked on the Assembly and Paint Line until his retirement in 1991. It was at this time that Frances became ill and Steve took on the task of caring for her. He enjoyed cooking and taking Frances on many shopping trips to the Parkland Mall without ever complaining or asking for help. Besides the love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he loved to garden and plant numerous varieties of flowers for everyone to admire and enjoy. Steve's favourite flowers were Begonias, which could be seen in all of his flower pots surrounding his beloved garden. He enjoyed playing cards, going to the Terrier hockey games, having coffee and socializing with his many friends and acquaintances. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Antonius and Pauline Sliva; sisters, Caroline Diakow, Mary Ronn and Helen Pelechaty; brother-in-laws, Harry Ronn, Joe Pelechaty and Bill Diakow and son-in-law Richard Napady. Steve leaves a loving family to cherish his memory. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Frances; daughter, Sylvia Napady of Yorkton; son, Dennis (Donna) Sliva of Regina. Steve was also blessed with the love of four grandchildren; Cheryl (Pete) Buzinski and Darcy Napady of Yorkton; Marla (Tyler) and Garret Sliva of Regina and three great grandchildren, Travis, Jared and Bryan Buzinski. He will be dearly missed by all remaining family members and friends including his extended family at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Darcy Napady, Garret Sliva, Pete Buzinski, Les Diakow, John Kwasny and Ronnie Sliva serving as the casket bearers. SNITINSKY - William. The death of Mr. William Snitinsky, 87 years, of Saskatoon formerly of Wimmer District occurred at City Hospital peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, December 14, 2007. William was born on February 4, 1920 south of Buchanan to Mike and Mary (nee Marchuk) Snitinsky. William grew up on a farm near Buchanan and took his education at the Vasloutz School. When William was is grade two his family moved to the Englefeld / St. Gregor area where William attended the Diamond Willow School. As a young person William was very active in sports such as hockey and curling but he especially loved to play ball and belonged to the Watson Night Hawks team that never missed a Sturgis Sports Day which was always held on July 1. His love for sports sometimes caused conflict with having to work on the farm, but he usually ended up going to play ball. In 1943 he moved to Wimmer District where he farmed for 56 years. There he built a new home and could be found out in his very large garden in his spare time when he wasn't farming. William loved every aspect of his life on the farm. His farm was one mile from the Wimmer Ukrainian Orthodox Church which was a very large part of his life. For 30 years he was the secretary and "fireman" which meant he would make sure the church was warm and clean and ready for services. He took this job very seriously as his faith in the Orthodox Church was very important. He was a member of the church board for many years and for this he was awarded a certificate of Appreciation of Service from the "Metropolit Wasylij of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada", a prestigious award which was very well deserved. On February 1, 1975 William married Victoria Derow at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Watson. Together they farmed until November 2006 when due to failing health they retired to Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon. William was very community minded and was very active on the Farmer's Union Board and the Local Co-op Board. William and Victoria loved to travel, which took them to such places as: Arizona, Texas, Las Vegas and Chicago. Most of these trips were done by car or motor home. Most Sundays and Ukrainian Orthodox Holidays you would find them at a church in the surrounding area, always ready to support these churches. They were blessed by being able on three occasions to travel and see Ukraine. William's love for the farm made it very difficult for him to leave, but was able in time to adjust to his life in the city. William, a man described by many, who would bend over backwards to help anyone, will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Victoria Snitinsky of Saskatoon; two sisters, and one brother, Dora Prokopetz of Regina, John (Pauline) Snitinsky of Saskatoon and Eva Pylatuke of Humboldt; brother-in-law, Steve Pasternack of Winnipeg and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. William was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Snitinsky; sister, Katie Pasternack; two brothers-in-law, Peter Prokopetz and Bill Pylatuke. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Arlin on August 17, 2008 due to a heart attack at Canora Hospital. Arlin was born August 14, 1953. He thoroughly enjoyed his cattle and life on his farm at Buchanan. Arlin is remembered for his honesty, his integrity, and his willingness to help those in need. He had a big heart and tender spirit. Arlin valued his time with family and friends. Arlin is survived by his mother, Ruth; and brothers, Lowell (Terry), Gordon, Gary (Margie), Wayne (Karen), and Mark (Kari) and sisters, Priscilla (John) Johnson, Karen (Doug) Anderson, and Janice (Leonard) Mann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Arthur. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Rock of Ages Church. STABLES - Flora Cameron, late of Pioneer Village, Regina, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2004. Flora was born in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland in 1902. She farmed at Rama, SK from 1926 - 1962. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander and daughter, Flora, as well as five sisters and three brothers in Scotland. Flora is survived by three daughters: Ina of Calgary, Daisy (Bill and family) of Victoria, BC, Edith (Roger) Hamelin of Regina, SK; son-in-law Gerald and family of Saskatoon, SK; two sisters and many relatives in Scotland. Flora lived in her own home until age 101. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation are extended to Mom's 6th Avenue N. neighbours, and to the caring staff at Pioneer Village. At Flora's request, there will be no funeral service. STEFANYSHIN - Metro (April 26, 1924 - July 21, 2013). It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Metro Stefanyshin at Saskatoon City Hospital. Metro will be deeply missed and forever remembered. He is survived by his son Terry (Pat) grandson Robert; granddaughter Suzette Barbour (Scott) great-granddaughters Kennedy and Payton; granddaughter Chrissy Ginther (Tony) children Raenna and Loni; sister Anne Wright; several nieces and nephews. Metro was predeceased by his wife Rose in 2010, his son Ron in 1992, his parents Nickolas and Katherine, brothers Bill and John and sister Mary. He was born on the homestead farm near the town of Buchanan, SK. The family later moved to farm near Lestock, SK and finally settled in Saskatoon. Metro married Rose on November 1, 1946 and together they shared their love of family, which was central to their lives. He was an avid outdoorsman and along with his wife introduced their family to the joys of nature through camping, fishing, and other activities. He was most fond of the cabin at McLennan Lake and dearly loved the remote, unspoiled environment. He was also a loyal fan of curling and eagerly awaited the start of every season. Metro was employed at the University of Saskatchewan College of Veterinary Medicine. The University of Ohio College of Veterinary Medicine recognized his contribution to the Department of Anatomy and on several occasions he was invited to the university to share his expertise. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Stevenson and the staff at RUH and the Transitional Care Unit at City Hospital for their care and support. STEFFENSON - Allan, of Yorkton passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on Saturday April 14, 2001 after a month long illness. He was 78 years of age. Allan Henry Steffenson was born on May 3, 1922 on his parents' farm south of Leroy, Saskatchewan to Chris and Hulda Steffenson. He received his education at Spring Grove School. While a teenager he helped on the farm, or worked for neighbors. In 1941 he and his brother Hardy were drafted into the army and received their basic training at Maple Creek and were later posted from one end of the country to the other. Allan served overseas with the Regina Rifles 3rd Division and was in action in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. He received several medals for his bravery. He returned home to LeRoy in 1946 and soon bought his own land. On October 4, 1949 he married Alma Ostig and resided in Leroy. In 1961 Allan and Alma moved to the Buchanan area where they farmed until 1973 when they moved into Yorkton. Allan worked at the Corona Motor Hotel for several years. He retired in 1982 but would often help farmers in the Springside area. When he was younger he enjoyed hockey and curling, throughout his life he loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and later gardening and jigsaw puzzles. Above all Allan enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved children and they adored him. Allan was predeceased by his father Christian Steffenson in 1959, his mother Hulda (Neilsen) Steffenson in 1972, his sister Lily Hanson in 1997, as well as his brother-in-law Les Hanson. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his four children: daughter Barbara (Walter) Rusnak and family, Lionel, Stephanie, Gladys, Roseanne and Michael Dutchak all of the Buchanan and Canora area; son Donovan (Lorraine) and family, Rebecca and Evan of Regina; son, Allan (Karen) and family, Brandon and Kalsey of Yorkton; daughter Krista of Yorkton; his wife Alma Steffenson of Yorkton; two brothers Ernest (Lorraine) of Regina and Hardy (Margaret) of Yorkton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The interment followed in the Veteran's Section of the Leroy Town Cemetery. SURKAN - Katherine (nee Andrusiak). With great sadness the family of Katherine Surkan announce that our Baba and Mother has been released from the ravages of cancer through her journey to eternal life. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her relatives on January 30, 2008. Katherine was born on November 13, 1921 on a farm in the Buchanan district, daughter of Wasyl Andrusiak and Mary (nee Olynuk). She was raised on their family farm and attended Memornitz School. As a young lady, Katherine embarked on an adventure to join George Surkan in Toronto. On May 24, 1942, Katherine was married to George in Toronto, where they would work and live for the next almost four years, but never really enjoying the big city life during the war years. Katherine worked, for the most part of the four years, in a dress factory. In 1945, Katherine and George moved back to Saskatchewan, where they started farming west of Insinger. In June of 1948, they were blessed with one son, Larry. Their son brought Katherine and George the happiest and most loving years of their lives. And since 1984, Katherine was blessed with her only grandson, Shane who was born in 1986, and three step-daughters, Lisa, Carolyn and Wendy, and their families who entered her life and brought so much joy throughout the years, and especially at festive times when the whole family would get together. Katherine and George loved their mixed farm and the great variety of joys and challenges it presented. Living on the farm was not easy but they were very happy with the grain they harvested, the cattle, pigs and chickens that they raised, the horses that helped them with their work, and the dogs and cats that became a part of their family. As George�s health declined, they made the sad decision to sell their farm and move to Yorkton. During the Yorkton years, Katherine worked at the Bus Depot, the Yorkton Hotel and the Yorkton Regional High School. Katherine semi-retired in 1983, and eventually retired to fully enjoy her yard as well as her vegetable and flower gardens. She sold her home and moved into an apartment in 2000, where she lived until moving to Biggar in 2007 to be closer to her sister, who lived in the same apartment, her nieces who lived in Biggar, and her son, grandson and the rest of her immediate family who live in Saskatoon and area. Katherine, our Baba and Mother, will be dearly missed. What we will miss cannot be replaced! Baba, we miss your many pearls of wisdom and common sense at times when we most needed a strong mind, a lifetime of experiences and sense of reason to help us through our most difficult times. And yes, you were right most of the time! We miss your perogies and cabbage rolls (especially the ones with the sour cabbage), that only our Baba could make - and there were none better. Baba, we will remember you for your many blessings - including the countless multi-coloured afghans that you knitted which will keep us warm and cozy for years to come. And we will never forget the moment when our Baba finally allowed her son and grandson�s family dog, Cooper, the happiest of all Golden Retrievers, to sleep on her bed. Cooper will remember forever, that single random act of kindness, which no other family pet before him ever had the opportunity to experience. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, George in 1975; her mother, Mary in 1926; her father, Wasyl in 1979; her nephew, Mike Spezowka in 1979; her dear sisters, Annie Gawryliuk in 2003 and Mary Spezowka in 2004. For their outstanding care, compassion and professionalism, our family would like to thank Dr. Prinsloo and his colleagues in Yorkton, Dr. Geide, Kathy Ward, and their associates in Saskatoon, Dr. Crane and his associates in Biggar, the staff at the Diamond Lodge in Biggar, and special thanks to Katherine�s sister, Lily; nieces, Joyce and Lorraine and Lorraine�s daughter, Natasha in Biggar. SUSHETSKI - Julius, husband of Sophie of Yorkton, formerly of the Buchanan district, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, June 1, 2001. He was 87years of age. Julius was born on February 27, 1914 in the Olesha Church district north of Buchanan on the family farm, a son of Frank and Mary (nee Yaworski) Sushetski. He received his education at Monastyr School situated 2 1/2 miles from their home. In his youth he helped his parents on the farm and worked at various lumber camps during the winter months. On October 23, 1944 Julius married Sophie Tkachuk at Olesha Church. The couple purchased their own land near both parent's farms. When Julius wasn't working in the fields or looking after the animals he was in his blacksmith shop tooling various implement parts. In 1974 Julius and Sophie moved to Yorkton where Julius worked for Weber's Home Building Services and continued to farm until 1982. Upon his retirement he loved spending his time with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening and tinkering in his garage, inventing and duplicating ornamental and garden gadgets. In 1994 Julius and Sophie celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. Julius loved his favourite TV program, The Price is Right. After his grandchildren grew to be young adults, he spent more time going to McDonalds for coffee, meeting his friends and trying to solve world problems. SWALLOW - James Albert "Bert" passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the age of 52 after fighting a battle with lung cancer. Bert is predeceased by his Dad; Edward (Blake) Swallow and his brother; Edward Swallow. Bert was born on October 29, 1954 in Grenfell, SK. He grew up on a farm outside Windthorst where he attended school. As a young man, he was active in a variety of sports. His life was great in Windthorst, but he met Mom and his life was even better and full of love. They were married in 1974 in Windthorst. Together they took over the family farm. A bundle of joy was next to come to make his life even more full. His name was Corrie. Next James came to fill his heart with joy. Bert and his family sold the farm and moved to Buchanan and bought the Buchanan hotel in partnership with his Dad. While living in Buchanan Bert and Rose were blessed again with a baby girl this time and named her Kimberley. During this time in Buchanan Bert participated in many sports and activities. In July, 1986 Bert and his family moved to Warman where he bought his milk route that was then known as Dairy Producers. He worked doing Home Delivery for 20 years and all his customers loved him and said he was the happiest person they knew. He always had a smile for everyone even if he was having a bad day. In Warman, Bert was involved with the Lions club. He enjoyed coaching his kids in hockey and soccer and received awards for a job well done. Dad never missed a game. He was always there to cheer his kids on and more recently his grandkids. Bert and Rose loved to camp. They would take their whole family. They loved it so much they got a permanent site which was their second little love nest where family and friends were always welcome. Dad would enjoy fishing, watching birds and when it rained, he would try to skunk Mom in a game of crib. Bert will be sadly missed but we know he is in heaven watching over us and playing cards with all of our loved ones who went before him. TKACHUK - Mike, beloved husband of Marcia of Yorkton, formerly of the Buchanan district entered eternal rest on Friday, August 23, 2002 at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Mike was born in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan to Steve and Mary (nee Madarash) Tkachuk. He grew up on the family farm. After marrying Marcia Romaniuk the couple continued to farm the family homestead. There they were blessed with five children whom they taught to love animals and respect the land. In 1973 Mike and Marcia moved to Yorkton. Here Mike commenced employment with Morris Rod Weeder until his retirement. Mike enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. He could sit up all night to play. He enjoyed creating gadgets to make his life easier. He had a lot of patience and love for his children and grandchildren even when they filled his garden tiller gas tank with water. Mike believed in working hard and then playing hard. Predeceased by his parents; sister Ann Krochak, Julia Michaluk and Lena Brezinski; he leaves to celebrate his life, his wife Marcia of 52 years; sons: Lorne (Lorene) Tkachuk of Sudbury,ON and Lloyd (Lewann) Tkachuk of Toronto, ON; daughters: Monica (Alfred) Czwartkowski of Edmonton, AB, Corinne (Tim) Muirhead of Nanaimo, BC and Tammy (Dwight) Ruf of Yorkton, SK; grandchildren: Chris (Kim) Tkachuk, Erin (Andrew) Sunter, Michael (Roberta) Tkachuk, Tammy Tkachuk (Mike), Victoria Tkachuk, Peter Czwartkowski, Gregory Muirhead, Ashley Muirhead and Nicholas Ruf; great grandchildren: Addison, Katlin and Alissa Tkachuk, Samantha Tkachuk and Austin Kernohan; brothers: Joe (Mary) Tkachuk of Preeceville, Ted (Ethel) Tkachuk of Hudson Bay; sisters: Helen Haddock and Sophie Sushetski, both of Yorkton and Ethel Poroch of Kapuskasing, ON; as well as many nieces and nephews. TRATCH - Paul, of Yorkton, beloved husband of Mary, died peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2001 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years of age. Paul was born on November 23, 1919, to John and Mary (nee Pozniak) on the family farm north of Buchanan. He attended Monastyr School. After finishing grade school Paul worked on the family farm. In 1941 he was drafted to the army serving in the Canadian Scottish Light Infantry Second Battalion. In 1943 he enlisted into the Canadian Military Police Corp as Lance Corporal. On October 7, 1944 Paul was united in marriage to Mary Diakow. One year later he was discharged from the army and purchased a farm seven miles north of Buchanan where they made their home for 31 years. During those years Paul served as RM Councillor for 22 years, telephone director for Buchanan Rural Telephone Co. for 11 years, secretary for Monastyr School Board, treasurer for Olesha Church Committee and grader operator for RM of Buchanan for 3 years. In 1975 Paul and Mary moved to Yorkton. Here Paul was employed at the Post Office and with the City of Yorkton, retiring in 1984. Paul was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and the Golden Ager Seniors Club where he served as president for one term. Predeceased by his parents John and Mary; sisters Katie Thorson and Nellie Hrynkiw; brothers Mike, Anton and Metro and son-in-law Bernie Stevenson, Paul leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Mary; sons Robert (Darlene) of Mundare, AB, Dan (Doris) of Humboldt and Terry of Brandon, MB; a daughter Christine of Saskatoon; three granddaughters, Candace of Edmonton, AB, Carmen of Mundare, AB and Renee of Nice, France; a sister Jessie Dennis of Edmonton, AB and a brother Bill (Stella) Tratch of Yorkton. VINISH - Frank Henry of Saskatoon, SK passed away peacefully at Central Haven Special Care Home on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the age of 90 years. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anne; three sons: Jerome (Gayle) of Saskatoon, SK and their son Gavin (Bernadette) and children Rebecca and Sydney, and daughter, Gwen (Greg): Adrian of Edmonton, AB: David (Julie) of Didsbury, AB and their four children Erin, Lauren, Cody and Aaron; two sisters, Magdalen (Louis) Latos of Wakaw, SK and Elizabeth (John) Molnar of Surrey, BC; and by his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anna (nee Habetler); two brothers, Andrew and Ignace; and one sister, Veronica Gorecki. Frank was born in Wakaw, SK on March 12, 1915 and received his education in Wakaw School. On October 18, 1949 Frank married Anne Roll and continued to reside in Wakaw, where they farmed until 1962. At this time they moved to Melville, SK where Frank operated the B/A Service Station for two years. They then moved to Invermay and operated a restaurant business till 1969, when they moved to Saskatoon, and Frank worked as a caretaker in various hotels until his retirement in 1985. Frank loved to sing in the church choir from a young age until his 80th year, and enjoyed playing the accordion. Frank and Anne enjoyed traveling; their holiday trips took them to Europe and Hawaii, as well as bus trips to USA. Frank will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Born Ellen Emily Genoway in Rama, SK on October 22, 1918, she was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Rama area. On July 1, 1940, she married Paul Wilgosh at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Rama. They farmed in the Buchanan and Invermay areas until their retirement in 1973. They then purchased a home in Canora where Ellen resided until 1995. Ellen later moved to Regina to live with her son and daughter-in-law where she lived until the time of her death. Ellen was a loving, caring and giving individual who always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life on the farm and numerous other activities such as cooking (best perogies around), baking, gardening, crocheting and quilting. But her biggest love above all was family. This was evident by the twenty plus summers "Baba" willing spent looking after her grandchildren in Canora. Prayer and funeral services will be held on February 3rd and 4th at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canora, SK. WILLIS - Lawrence Donovan "Larry". It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry on February 12, 2004, with his family by his side. Larry was born on November 23, 1943 to Dorothy and Donovan Willis in Invermay, SK. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Terry; children, Tracey and Curtis; brothers, Ed and Jay; sister, Sandra (Gerald) McGill; parents-in-law, Clementine and Joe Volk; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Volk, Marilyn (Ed) Sorel, Bernie Volk; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was employed as a carpenter with the CN for 34 years and proudly displayed his mementos. He enjoyed woodworking in the garage that he built himself and he loved buying tools. WILSON - Marie (nee Rauliuk), beloved wife of George Wilson of Buchanan, SK, passed away at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon on May 21st, 2006 at the age of 76 years. Marie was born in Winnipeg, MB to John and Nellie (nee Kushniruk) Rauliuk. Her family soon moved to the Goldenvale district near Sheho / Insinger area. During her early years, she attended Oleksince School and worked with her parents by helping with the younger children and assisting them with the operation of their Goldenvale Post Office outlet and grocery store and on the family farm. During those school years, she met and started her lifetime relationship with George Wilson. They decided they would begin a life together and moved to Red Deer, AB where Marie was employed as a waitress and George had started his trucking business. They were married there on May 21st, 1949. Shortly after their marriage, George and Marie moved back to Saskatchewan and purchased their own farmland near Tiny to raise their family. George continued with the operation of the trucking business along with farming and mink ranching with Marie's active participation in the daily activities of the farm and hauling. Their business grew into road construction and with their young son, Ron, they moved into the Village of Buchanan where their family grew to include Cindy, Dean and Corey. They continued expansions in highway construction with the development of G.W. Construction which they continue to operate to this date. In 2002 they purchased a second residence in Martensville, SK though they frequently returned to their Buchanan residence and always fondly called it "home". Marie loved gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed travelling with George to many different places. Marie supported her community and volunteered her time and knowledge by sitting on the Buchanan local school board, the Sask. Housing Authority Board, the Buchanan Club 50 Board, the Buchanan Co-op Local Board, the Buchanan Recreation Board, Buchanan Minor Sports, the Buchanan Ladies Curling Club, the UCW Ladies Aid Group, the Buchanan United Church Board and also contributed to the Faith Lutheran Women's group projects and numerous other associations over the years and strongly believed in supporting the businesses in Buchanan. Marie is lovingly remembered by her husband, George; her three sons: Ron (Laurie), Dean (Lori) and Corey; her daughter, Cindy; her three brothers: Bill (Starr) Rauliuk, Peter (Vivian) Rauliuk and Very Rev. Orest (Jeannette) Rauliuk; her sister, Iris (Tyrone) Klewchuk; her five grandchildren: Sean, Cara, Megan, Devin and Danielle (Joey MacDonald); her two greatgrandchildren: Sadia and Jaxon. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband, wonderful father and caring grandfather. Surrounded by his family, Louis Edward Wolkowski passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon following a courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his wife Rose of 47 years, his three children Laureen (Brian) Dmytriw and their children, Kristy, Kyle and Kayla of Saskatoon, Darrell (Darlene) Wolkowski and their children, Tyler, Jordon and Jillian of Saskatoon and Darla Wolkowski and her children, Branden, Dustin and Tanner of Dundurn and his pet dog Boomer. Louis was born at Tiny, Saskatchewan on September 8, 1934. He was the eldest son of Walter and Stella Wolkowski. He attended Kowalowka School and continued his education at SIAST Moose Jaw completing his Journeyman's Certificate in Carpentry. In 1952 he met Rose Brezinski while he was farming with his dad and brother. On August 20, 1956 he married his soul mate, Rose. Louis was an active member in the community and public services. His career in public work stemmed from being Chairman of several committees of which included, the Kowalowka School, the TWP Snowplow Club, the R.M. of Buchanan Agriculture Committee, and the District 19 Agricultural Board. He was co-founder and first president of the Canora Seed Cleaning Plant and he also served on the Canora Credit Union Board. He was then elected as councilor of the R.M. of Buchanan and served as Reeve. He was actively involved with SARM as a Sub Unit Director, Director and Vice President. For many years Louis was involved with the Hudson Bay Route Association and later elected President. At the time of his passing, Louis was an active member of the Highway Traffic Board. All his life, Louis was a strong supporter of the provincial NDP party. Religion was a very important part of Louis's life. His strong faith and belief in God, led Louis to be a member of St. Joseph's parish in Canora and acted as Grand Knight and District Deputy with the Knights of Columbus. For the past 55 years, one of his most prized accomplishments was farming with his dad and brother and then later with his son and grandsons. He was able to accomplish all of his achievements with the unconditional love and support from his loving wife Rose. He is survived by his brother, Stan (Leona) of Canora and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Louis is predeceased by parents, Walter and Stella and his parent -in-laws, Stanley and Anne Brezinski. The family would like to thank Dr. A.J. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Wolkowski on October 21st, 2003. She was also predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Anne Brezinski; in-laws, Walter and Stella Wolkowski. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Laureen (Brian) Dmytriw and their children, Kristy (Dustyn) Kolababa, Kyle and Kayla of Saskatoon, Darrell (Darlene) Wolkowski and their children Tyler, Jordan and Jillian of Saskatoon and Darla Wolkowski and her children, Branden, Dustin and Tanner of Dundurn; and her dog Hunter. Rose was born at Rama, SK on January 15th, 1938. She was the youngest daughter of Stanley and Anne Brezinski. She attended Walna School. In 1952 she met the love of her life, Louis Wolkowski, and they were married on August 20th, 1956 at Rama. Following her marriage, she was devoted to the family farm at Tiny, SK where she was an amazing cook, an avid gardener and devoted wife and mother. She dedicated much of her time and effort cooking and entertaining at family gatherings of which she cherished very much. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy of which she treasured every moment she spent with them. In February of 2007, she fulfilled her and Louis's dream by taking their entire family on a vacation to Mexico. Not only did she work hard on the family farm, she also worked at Berg's Hatchery for a couple of years, followed by many years at the Canora Gateway Lodge. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, a member of the CWL, and was actively involved in the Gateway Lodge Auxiliary. She is survived by her sisters, Adela Kowalyshen of Canora, Helen Yasinski of Yorkton, Steffie Wionzek of Canora, Lena Bugera of Canora, and her brothers, Edward Brezinski of Buchanan, Edmund (Isabelle) Brezinski of Edmonton, Bernard (Sylvia) Brezinski of Weyburn, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. WOLOSCHUK - Mary (nee Kereluk) was born on August 25, 1910 on the family farm near Buchanan, Saskatchewan, a daughter of John and Patricia (nee Franko) Kereluk. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Mamornitz and Insinger Schools. She took her high school and teachers' training in Saskatoon, where she stayed at the Mohyla Institute. Upon completion of her training, Mary taught at various schools, among them Insinger village, Ponass Lake (near Wadena), Ukraina (west of Gorlitz), and Wroxton. It was while at Wroxton that Mary met Peter G. Woloschuk, secretary-treasurer of the RM of Calder. On October 10th, 1942, the couple were married in Yorkton at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Transfiguration by the late Very Rev. F. Kernitsky. Mary continued teaching. She also taught near Edmonton, Alberta, in the county of Thorhild. In addition to her teaching duties, she organized and conducted choirs and plays, held adult classes and taught Sunday School. Following 33 successful years, Mary retired from active teaching but kept herself busy. She took a Ukrainian weaving course in Banff and conducted classes in weaving in Edmonton and Smokey Lake. She also travelled extensively with Peter, visiting various provinces in Canada as well as areas of the United States, Europe, Hawaii and Mexico. At home she enjoyed cooking and tending to her flower beds and garden. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and former students. Mary passed away at the Perley-Rideau Nursing Home in Ottawa on Wednesday, December 6th, 2000. She was 90 years of age. She was predeceased by her parents John and Patricia, brothers Wiliam, Steve, Julien (and his wife Ethel and their sons Brian and Dennis); father and mother-in-law Nickolay and Wasylena (nee Wintonyk) Woloschuk; brother-in-law James Woloschuk and his wife Annie (nee Polischuk); brother-in-law Norman Woloschuk and sister-in-law Anne Sorokan. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Peter; son Boris and Connie (Hill) of Ottawa and their children Quentin, Nicholas (Whitney) and Alexandra; daughter Lesya (Peter Royds) of Ottawa and her two sons Kevin and Jerin Dunsmoor; sisters Olga, Valenteen and Violet Kereluk, all of Saskatoon; a sister-in-law Lena (Moldowan) Kereluk of Yorkton; sisters-in-law, Kay (Werbowetski), and Mary and Irene Woloschuk, all of Yorkton; nieces Evangeline, Patricia (Ken Prosser) and Cynthia (Stanley Kaban) and their six children; nephews Mervin & Glen (Cheri), as well as her many other relatives and friends. YACHYSHEN - Maurice, beloved husband of Helen Yachyshen of Yorkton, formerly of the Rama district, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 78 years of age. Maurice Joseph Yachyshen was born on November 16, 1928 in the Rama district of Saskatchewan; a son of Nicholas and Mary (nee Groshko) Yachyshen. Maurice grew up on the family farm and attended Boxmoor School and then Rama School. He completed his education as a student resident at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton. While here and under the guidance of the Christian Brothers of Delaselle; Maurice was involved in sports: Baseball, Hockey and Boxing and the Army Cadets. Maurice enjoyed practical jokes and laughed at the outcome. He loved music, playing guitar, singing, whistling or humming as was evident to all! As well, if there was a dance; you could be sure Maurice was found on the dance floor. In 1952 Maurice Joseph was united in marriage to Helen Theresa Korchinski. They settled in the Mainroad District to farm and break the land. Toiling many laborious hours by the sweat of his brow and with Helen by his side; his ability to work with his team of horses to take the burden of pulling was amazing. The family moved to the Bellindean district and farmed for a couple of years then moved near Rama continuing to farm. In 1970 the family moved to Yorkton, where they have since resided. Maurice continued to farm in Rama with his family helping him on weekends and holidays. At the end of a long work day, Maurice always reflected with laughter and jokes about the adventures of the day. Later in life, Maurice's fondest times and enjoyment was to rebuild a cabin at Canora Beach. He was admired as an "Artist" erecting a work of art with his own hands. In his senior years Maurice was an avid gardener; being ever so proud of his abundant vegetable crop to share with his family and friends. Above all, Gido loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; telling stories about farming and the "good old days" Gido was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was very special to everyone. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, July 8, 2007 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, July 9, 2007 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko as celebrant. Cantors, Ed Pindus and Colette Karapita, assisted by members of St. Mary's Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was James Yachyshen. The interment took place in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery at Rama with Ryan and Lorne Yachyshen, Eric and Shane Statchuk, Grant Mihalcheon and Barrie Bonsal serving as the casketbearers. YAWORSKI - Helen Lena (nee Wolkowski). It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful departure of Helen Lena Yaworski at the age of 92 years and 9 months on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at the Canora Hospital with family by her side after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Helen was born on October 26th, 1915 near Buchanan, SK to Mike and Agnes (nee Kozminski) Wolkowski. She was raised on the family farm near Buchanan and attended Christiana School. Helen was united in marriage to Frank Yaworski on November 28th, 1939 and they were blessed with three sons: Bernard, Alvin and Ron. Helen and Frank farmed in the Tiny district. After Frank's passing, Helen continued to live on the farm until August 1st, 1982, at which time, she moved to Buchanan. Helen enjoyed baking, cooking and making delicious perogies, cabbage rolls, bread, pickles and headcheese. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, and she particularly enjoyed the company of her friends that would visit, as well, attending Club 50 on Wednesday afternoons for card games, bingo and lunch. Helen was a very hardworking woman who had a very strong religious faith while accepting her life's journey. She would always say, "With my two hands and God's help. " She was also very compassionate, caring, generous, loving, and a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who loved her family dearly and treasured every visit, as well as celebrating holidays and special moments with all of her family. Helen will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, her sons: Bernard (Helen) of Regina, SK, Alvin (Karen) of Saskatoon, SK and Ron (Sandy) of Chilliwack, BC; her grandchildren: Shannon (Brett), Suzanne (Daryn), Miranda (Chad), Sheldon, Tanya, Janelle, Breanne and Kevin; her great grandchildren, Nathan (Tia), Randal, Megan, Madison, Alexandra, Victoria and Matthew; great-great grandchild, Brooklyn; her sisters: Rose (Jerry) Semaschuk of Canora, SK, Nellie Chimko of Toronto, ON and sister-in-law, Emily Wolkowski of Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her parents: Mike and Agnes; her brothers: Eddie, Lloyd, Phillip, John, Joe, her sisters: Annie Soloski, Maggie Woytowich and Frances Makowsky. She will be missed dearly and never forgotten by all who knew her and loved her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at the Canora Hospital for their kindness and support during her illness and hospital stay. Fr. Antoni Degutis, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery. YOUNG - Olga Young, a resident of Yorkton District Nursing Home passed away on July 9, 2010. She was 98 years of age. Olga Young was born on April 11, 1912 in the Buchanan district, Saskatchewan, a daughter of early Ukrainian settlers, Nicholas and Anna (nee Cymbalisty) Wasyliw. She was raised on the family farm in the Buchanan area. On September 14, 1935 she was united in marriage to Michael Young at Regina, Sask. Besides being a homemaker who loved gardening she assisted with operation of Yorkton Auto Body Shop with her husband for over 40 years. She was active in the Bowling League for many years and a parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Olga loved to read, dance, sing and play the violin. She is survived by Danny Wasyliw of Yorkton (raised by Olga & Mike); daughters Maxine (Jonah) Young of Magnolia, Texas and Judy (Jerry) Komaryk of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Marni Mawae, Jason Mawae, Janelle (Mawae) Sotelo, Bret Komaryk, Tyler Komaryk and Jolene (Komaryk) Segstro; great grandchildren Carina Davis, Nicholas Mawae, Kyle Mawae, Anna Malia Mawae, Christian Sotelo and Mateo Sotelo; great great grandchildren Cody Komaryk, Carley Komaryk, Zennan Komaryk, B. ZAHARIA - Steve, of Yorkton, beloved husband of Annie passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009 with his family by his side, after a full 81 years of life. He is survived by his wife Anne; his daughters Judy Blahay (Gerald), Janet Zaharia, and Grace MacMillan (Wayne); grandchildren Carrie Robb (Al), Dan Blahay, Alyssa McLash (Toby Potter), Fiona McLash (Tristan Bradley), Sarah MacMillan and Kaitlyn MacMillan; great-grandchildren Nerissa Robb (Joe Kletchko), Cash Robb and Rayna Robb; and great-great grandson Weston Kletchko. He is also survived by 4 sisters and numerous nephews and nieces and their families.Steve was born on January 14, 1928 in the Drobot area near Buchanan, SK. He was the 8th of 13 children of Annie and Prokop Zaharia. In October of 1950 he married the love of his life, Anne Derkach. He started his career as a welder working for his brother John in Preeceville. From there he worked for the Co-op Creamery (later Dairy Producers) which took him and his family to North Battleford, Pilot Butte, Preeceville, and then to Yorkton. His heart was always in farming. He had a farm in Rama and then in Preeceville which he continued to operate until 1999. Steve and Anne retired in Yorkton, where he pursued his interests in curling, golf, bowling, and his ever favourite game of crib. Steve was devoted to his grandchildren and they in turn loved their Gido. Steve was a firm believer in his faith and was involved with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as an elder, cantor and choir member. He believed in fairness and treating people with respect, and he loved his family - both immediate and extended. He brought love and laughter to our lives and we are forever grateful. Life's work well done! Prayers were held on Thursday, September 3rd and the funeral service on Friday, September 4th at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Archpriest Derewianka officiating. The responses were led by Dobrodiwka Evhenia Derewianka. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Gerald Blahay, Wayne MacMillan, Al Robb, Tim Zaharia, John Zaharia and Doug Filipchuk serving as the casket bearers. ZAHARUIK - William, formerly of Buchanan, Sask., passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital in Calgary on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the age of 63. He will be sadly missed by his brothers John Maximnuk, of Buchanan, Sask, and Ed Zaharuik of Maple Creek, Sask., and sisters Doris Christensen and Mary and her husband, Doug McCallum, both of Calgary. A memorial service will be held at a later date. ZIBITNEW - Audrey (January 12, 1933 - June 6, 2013). Audrey passed away peacefully at home with her loving caregivers, niece Lois and great-niece Larina by her side. She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Olga Ranger and Julie (Bill) Scott; sister-in-law, Valerie Zbitnew; aunt, Elizabeth Kopas; nephew-in-law, Ed (Wendy) Haussecker; great-nephew, Brad (Brenda) Haussecker, Adam and Derek; great-nephew Jeff (Jodi Delorme) Haussecker; great-niece, Larina (Dave) Tremblay, Jessica (Bryan Larson), Mason and Aimee whom she held and loved as if her own children and grandchildren; niece, Lois (Bob) Thacyk; Allison (Jason) Nystrom, Madeleine and Sofia; Suzanne (Mark) Anderson, Olivia and Billy; and numerous other family members and friends. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Mary Zbitnew; sisters, Jean Kotyk, Sophie Moore; brothers, Walter, John, Alfred, Nestor and David; sisters-in-law, Bernie, Irene and Ruth; brothers-in-law, Harry Kotyk, Peter Prosko and Gordon Moore; and niece, Linda Haussecker. Audrey was born and raised on a farm near Buchanan, SK. At an early age she became an avid reader with a quest for knowledge. This drive to learn resulted in her getting her first job at the local pharmacy; it was here that her love of science grew. Audrey's post-secondary education began at the Regina College with a laboratory technician course. In 1957, she moved to Toronto to attend the University of Toronto. In 1964, she completed a B.A. and in 1967 a MSc. in Virology from the School of Hygiene, University of Toronto. Dr. Andrew Rhodes (one of Canada's pioneers in Virology) is quoted as crediting Audrey with playing an important role in developing teaching and research in the field of medical virology. She left Toronto for Saskatoon in 1969 to assume the position of Virologist at the University Hospital and taught in the department of Microbiology in the College of Medicine until her retirement in 1995 after a dedicated career in the field of medical science. Audrey was a woman of exquisite taste; she appreciated great literature, works of art, classical music, fine dining and good wine. Conversation with Audrey was easy; she was a natural storyteller who could easily weave her adventures of travel and life experiences into conversation. She loved to welcome friends and family into her home to entertain. Audrey enjoyed a wide and diverse circle of friends, old and new, young and the ageing. In the spirit of gathering, she was the first to suggest a party to celebrate even the smallest of achievements and always made the recipient feel so special! She was a dear friend and devoted to her family. As a lifelong student, teacher, role model, and mentor, Audrey was committed to others. She had a gift for identifying areas of strength in people, and was able to provide just the right combination of support and challenge to help bring out the person's very best. One of her great desires was for others to be able to achieve their dreams. Many friends and family members saw her as a pillar of strength - always there to support them through challenging times. Many Saskatoon agencies and services benefited from Audrey's commitment to the community as a volunteer. Her nurturing nature translated into her love and care for her flower gardens - it showed. Audrey's final and life-changing lesson for us was her graceful acceptance of her diagnosis and illness. She took up the challenge of dying with grace and dignity. Her quick wit and humour were with her even in her closing hours. Audrey's love of life persisted into her death. A remarkable woman who has left a mark on each of us. A special thank you to Audrey's physicians Dr. L. Nickel and Dr. J. Stakiw; nurses Meagan and Alice; and all of the other staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre who cared for her. Audrey greatly appreciated the high standard of care each of you provided to her. A celebration of Audrey's life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Cavalier Top of the Inn, 612 Spadina Crescent, Saskatoon, SK. ZBITNIFF -Bill Max passed away peacefully, on Monday, June 29th, 2009, with his son, Kelly by his side. Bill was born on February 22nd, 1938 in Buchanan, SK. He will be greatly missed by his sons, Kelly (Laurie); Charles, Bruce (Georgina) and daughter, Debbie Fraser (Barrie); grandchildren, Alexandera, Mathew, Joshua, Adam, Rebecca and Oksana; companion and partner, Mary Ore and her two children, April (Steven) children, Mercydes, Brianne and Paige; and Mary's son, Jason; sister, Mary Tzupa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Max and Annie Zbitniff; brother, John; sisterin-law, Tina; nephew, Fred; brother-in-law, John Tzupa and nephew, Johnny. Bill started B&I Contracting to allow his sons to learn a trade. Bill loved to travel and had visited more than 70 countries. He often would go to Kelly's place to work on horseshoe projects and play ball with Bubbles who he often referred to his granddoggie. Bill enjoyed visiting family and relatives. He was outgoing and found it very easy to make friends. Mary would often find him talking to strangers in the street and when they travelled, he almost always knew someone from back home. He enjoyed getting on his computer, sending jokes to his many friends. Bill was proud of the accomplishments of all his grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. |
