AMBROSE - Muriel Mary Ellen (nee Bryan) of Pioneer Lodge Moose Jaw, Sask. (formerly of Aylesbury, Sask.) age 81 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25th, 2001 at her residence. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Jesse Frank & Emma Bryan; her loving husband Victor and two sons, Clint & Doug. Muriel is survived by her loving family: Daughter Kathy (Fraser) LaVanway; sons, Don (Ann) & Ray (Barb); three daughters-in-law Toni, Donna & Georgette; grandchildren Michelle (Orrin); Ksena, Brendan, Jeff, Valerie, Brian, Ryan, Jaclyn, Chelsea, Holly, Jordan, Lindsay, Kera, Lynea & Spencer; also cousin Doug (Norma) Brown. The celebration of Muriel's life funeral service will be held on Sunday January 6th, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. from the Craik United Church, Craik, Sask., with Rev. Jamie Bushell officiating. Interment family plot, Craik cemetery. AMUNDRUD - Gordon Leonard Amundrud. WWII Veteran Department of National Defence 1924-2007 Peacefully, at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre on Friday, June 8, 2007. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Haslett). Loving father to David (Bev), Gail (Jim), Beverley and Karen (Benoit). Cherished grandfather of Andrew, Erik, Kirsten, Lauren, Justin, Alex and Matt. Dear brother of Howard (Helen) of Cochrane, AB; Marjorie (Louis) of Calgary; Kenneth (Molly) of Edmonton; Norman (Margaret) of Stony Plain, AB, and Marlene (Ron) of Regina. He will also be sorely missed by his many cousins, nieces and nephews. Near and dear to his heart was Vania, who provided care and comfort for seven years. Born and educated in Aylesbury, SK, Gordon enlisted at age 18. He served as a pilot in the RCAF and saw combat duty with RAF 76 Squadron out of Holme-On Spalding Moor, attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of Saskatchewan. A Gas Turbine Engine Specialist, he was involved with the Avro Arrow, the Bras d'Or Hydrofoil and the four Tribal Class Destroyers. Gordon was active as a coach in minor baseball and hockey, and as a volunteer in competitive swimming. His passions were photography and all outdoor activities. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Tuesday from 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre on Wednesday at 3pm. The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff and Dr. Tobin of Gatineau 2 North, where he spent his final 5 1/2 years. AMUNDRUD - Mary (nee Cawsey). On September 5th, 2008, with her husband and friends by her side, Mary Amundrud passed away in her 87th year. Predeceased by her daughter, Linda (Dehm), she is survived by her husband, Addis, daughter, Heather Hoxby (Colin) of Oakville, Ontario, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Special aunt to many nieces and nephews and dearly loved by many friends, she will be greatly missed. Born in Davidson, Saskatchewan, she was the last of her 7 siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. Interment at Aylesbury Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. BITZ - Wilhelmina (nee Unteriner). On Friday, January 4, 2002 Wilhelmina Bitz passed away at the age of 86 years. Wilhelmina was born in Sedley on November 11, 1915 to George and Katrina Unteriner and in 1916 moved to the Aylesbury district with her family. In 1940 she married Philip Bitz and they farmed in the Sunset District near Findlater until 1966 when they retired to Chamberlain and in 1992 to the Craik Health Centre. Wilhelmina was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will always be remembered for her patience, kindness and willingness to place the needs of others first. Wilhelmina is predeceased by her husband Philip; brother Anton; grandsons Shawn Skoropad and Randy Mangel. She will be lovingly remembered by two sons: Albert (Pearl) and Ed (Shirley); three daughters: Millie (Ron) Mangel, Elaine (Bob) Bennett and Glady (Andy) Skoropad; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; sister: Edith (George) Zerr; four brothers: Aloysius, Andrew, John and Paul; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Lloyd (Ethel) Bitz; sister-in-law Kay Dignan. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Chamberlain, SK with Rev. Lester Kaufmann OMI as the celebrant. Our mother, Frances Rebecca Brown, passed away in her 91st year on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Marion MacLaggan (Rae); son, Eric; seven grandchildren, Kevin MacLaggan (Merilee), Sean MacLaggan (Sarah), Gary Brown (Inge), David Brown (Tabby), Brenda Fleury (Dean), Wanda Levac (Dwayne), Debbie Brown (Davin); and eight great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by our father, Ron, in 1983; her parents and nine siblings. Mom, Dad and their two children came to Canada from England as immigrants in 1948. They owned and operated a grocery store in Aylesbury, Saskatchewan, until 1969 when they moved to Saskatoon. Mom spent the last four years as a resident of Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, where she received wonderful care from the Lodge's staff. Mom's Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at McKague's Funeral Chapel (3rd. Ave and 20th Street), officiated by Mr. Jim Atcheson. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. BUCKINGHAM - Christine Phyllis Buckingham, formerly of Aylesbury, Sask., passed away peacefully on October 13, 2014 at the age of 85. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Maureen Penner, grandchildren Brody and Natasha Penner, sister Agnus Hunter, as well as numerous other family members. Christine was predeceased by her beloved husband Stuart, her brothers Alexander, Albert and Raymond and her sister Marie. Christine was born near Strong Pine, Sask. on May 9, 1929. She enjoyed her life as a farmer�s wife. Christine also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and helping out around the farm when needed. Christine loved to spend time with her grandchildren and watch them grow up. A celebration of Christine�s life was held at the Aylesbury Community Hall on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. BUTTIMER - Gladys Sarah Buttimer passed away peacefully in the Foothills Hospital, Calgary on April 11, 2007 at the age of 92 years. Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband John; sisters Aileen and Muriel. Gladys is survived by three daughters, Alice Mae (Doug) MacDonald of Powell River, BC; Marilyn (Don) Yackel of Mississauga, ON; Lilyan (Gerry) Arnusch of Red Deer, AB; eight grandchildren, Bonnie (Jim); Marcia (Ingmar); Carla (Mark); John (Heather); Leanne (George); Laura (Doug); Jill (Paul), J.J. (Nathalie); nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice of Richmond, QE; one sister-in-law, Helen Buttimer of Camrose, AB; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. A Funeral Service will be held in Aylesbury Hall, Aylesbury, SK on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Aylesbury Cemetery, Aylesbury, SK. CHURCH - Clifford Delbert. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford Delbert Church. He passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2004 in his home surrounded with the love of his daughters and dedicated caregivers. Clifford was born on May 14, 1910 in Hinton, Iowa and was the youngest of six children born to his parents Mabel and Del Church. His mother returned to Canada after the tragic death of her husband and settled in the Aylesbury district with her family in June 1911. Mabel married Elmo Johnson in 1914. Cliff attended Watkins school in the Aylesbury district until 8th grade. His mother died when he was fourteen and being very lonely he spent a lot of time with his aunts and uncles. He worked in the Aylesbury district as a hired hand. In December 1933 he married Ida Leighton. Cliff worked at various jobs until 1952 when he returned to work for R.B. McLeod as Superintendent of water and sewer construction. He worked in many communities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba in this capacity. Ill health forced Cliff to retire at age fifty-eight. Cliff and Ida moved into their daughter's yard at Buffalo Pound Lake where they spent many wonderful summers and wintered with Darlene at Parksville. This allowed them to have a close, loving relationship with their grandchildren. Cliff was predeceased by an infant son in 1942, his loving wife, Ida, in 1992, granddaughter, Tracey (Difley) Hoium in 1991 and a grandson, Birk Emes in 1991. After Ida passed away Cliff moved into Timothy Eaton Gardens where he thoroughly enjoyed living and where he remained until his passing. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his daughters: Mabel Difley of Moose Jaw and Darlene (Gerry) Emes of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; his grandchildren: Brent (Shari) Difley, Tara (Jeff) Leicht, Morgan (Christina) Emes, Dane (Angie) Emes, and Joel (Candace) Emes; his great-grandchildren: Jordan Hoium, Tyler and Bryce Difley, Cole and Madelynne Emes and Chloe and Meryn Emes. He is also survived by three half sisters, Ione (Johnson) Ward, Verna (Johnson) Clark, Vera (Johnson) Fiegehen, niece, Doris (Bruce) Winter and nephew, Bud Church. He is also survived by nieces: Pearl Zoerb, Stella Landers, Monetta Migadel, Vera Harrison, Norma Wakefield and nephew, Jesse Shields. We are very grateful for the tender, loving care provided by Donna and Fon during the past year and also to all the Home Care Staff for their kindness, care and concern over the years. CRAIG - Aaljte "Ali", late resident of the Lutheran Sunset Home, Saskatoon, SK and formerly of Moosomin, SK, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2002. Ali is loved and remembered by her husband, Dick, of Saskatoon; one daughter Laurinda (Barry) Rickman, of Saskatoon; two sisters, Roeli Kooj and Jenny (Hank) Pomp, both of Holland; one brother, Anne (Liza) Bakker, of Suriname, South America; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers. Ali was born and raised in Holland. She emigrated to Canada in March 1957 and married Dick Craig in July 1957. The couple settled in Aylesbury, SK and in 1961 they moved to a farm near Welwyn, SK, where they resided until 1978 when they moved to Moosomin, SK. In 1992, they moved to Saskatoon. In 1995, due to failing health, Ali moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home where she resided until her passing. Ali loved meeting people, entertaining and being a homemaker. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. CRAIG - Donald Richard "Dick", formerly of Moosomin, SK, passed away on Sunday, September 21st, 2008 at the Veteran's Village in Saskatoon. Dick was born November 13th, 1916 in Augusta, Kansas. At an early age, he moved with his family to Aylesbury, SK where he grew up and started farming. In 1942, Dick enlisted with the army and served overseas until 1945. He married Ali Bakker on July 30th, 1957, settling on the farm at Aylesbury. The family moved in 1961 to Welwyn, SK where Dick continued to farm. Dick and Ali retired from the farm to Moosomin in 1978 and they moved to Saskatoon in 1992 to be closer to their daughter, Laurinda and husband, Barry. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Ali in 2002; parents, Tom and Laurinda Craig; brother, Stan Craig and sister, Elizabeth Fife; as well as brothers-and sisters-in-law on both sides. Dick will be remembered by his daughter, Laurinda and her husband, Barry; sister, Janet Rygh; brother, Dave Craig; two sisters-in-law, in Holland and one brother-in-law in South America and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 26th at 10:00 a.m. from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #63 (606 Spadina Cres. West). CRAIG - Stanley, age 89, passed away in Saskatoon on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007. Stan was born January 26th, 1918 in Augusta, Kansas. At the age of 3, Stan moved with his family to Aylesbury, SK, where he resided until moving to the Manor in Craik, SK in 2006. For several years, he sold Watkins in the Kelvington area. Stan is survived by his two brothers, Dick Craig of Saskatoon and Dave Craig of Barrie, ON; one sister, Janet Rygh of Kipling; two nephews and one niece, Gilbert (Dorothy) Fife, Lowell (Anita) Fife and Laurinda (Barry) Rickman; as well as several great nieces, nephews, and friends. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Laurinda Craig; sister, Elizabeth Fife and two brothers-in-law, Martin Rygh and Tommy Fife; sisters-in-law, Ali Craig and Essie Craig. The Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 28th at 10:00 a.m. from the German Canadian Club Concordia (Lorne Avenue and Cartwright St). Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Aylesbury Cemetery. ELLIOTT - Austin Clarence "Clancy" of Parksville, BC and formerly of Saskatoon and Turtle Lake, SK passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 18, 2008 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 77. Clancy is survived by his wife, Sue Brown; son, Dean (Lorey); daughter JoAnne; grandchildren Michael, Trisha, Michelle and Jordan, stepdaughters Cindy (Kim) Adamson, Cheryl Brown, Charlene Thompson, and Delaine (Michael) Collins; step-grandchildren Amanda, Leah, Meleah, Hailey and Bobby; sisters Eldeen Woolsey and Mildred Neilsen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and valued friends. Clancy was predeceased by his parents Almer and Elsa (nee Forsberg) Elliott; wife Alice Elliott (nee Cran); brother Arvid Elliott; sisters-in-law Bjorg (Bunny) Elliott, Nellie Thomson, and Elsie Siegel; and brothers-in-law Jens Nielsen, Everett Woolsey and George Siegel. Clancy was born May 22, 1931 in Aylesbury, and spent some of his childhood in Macrorie and Dunblane. He began his working career with the CNR in 1950 where he developed many life long friends. Clancy sold off his section of land at Aylesbury to finance his B.Ed. degree, which he completed while working nights at the CNR. During this time he met Alice Cran, whom he married in 1953. Clancy began his career with Saskatoon Public School Division in 1963 as a chemistry teacher at Bedford Road Collegiate, became vice-principal at Mount Royal Collegiate, and later served as assistant superintendent and superintendent in central office, superannuating in 1989. In 1981 Clancy and Alice spent a year in Honolulu where he completed his M.Ed. Clancy also served on the board of directors of the Saskatoon Credit Union, helped coach basketball, and was a member of St. Martin's United Church, the Elks and Mystic Tie Lodge #213, A.F. & A.M. Post-retirement he and Alice alternated their time between Mesa, AZ, and the family cabin at Turtle Lake, where they celebrated 40 years of marriage shortly before her passing in 1995. In 1996, Clancy married Sue Brown, a fellow snowbird and former Saskatchewan resident. They spent over 10 joyous years together pursuing their many common interests such as golfing, entertaining family and friends, and travelling, including cruises to Alaska, the Baltic, and Australia. Most recently they had given up their Mesa residence and decided to spend winters in Lake Havasu City so that they could both continue to enjoy Arizona. Clancy was a valued friend and respected professional of the highest integrity who was always willing to help family, friends and colleagues, based on his maxim that one should "do things right", but more importantly that one should "do the right things." Memorial services are tentatively planned for Parksville, BC in late January and Saskatoon, SK in late May followed by dedication of a plaque at Turtle Lake, SK. FORSYTH - Donald George was born in Grand Coulee SK. on October 27, 1911. He passed away on January 8, 2009 at the Craik Health Centre where he had resided since May 2009. He leaves to mourn his sister Shirley, Kenora; Stepchildren; Wally (Theresa) Hunt, La Ronge; Gail (Ray) Foster, Wetaskawin, Faye (Duke) Dutkiewicz, The Pas; SonIn Law Paul Quick; 17 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. Don was predeceased by his wife Ethel (Crippen/Hunt), Stepdaughter Donna, Grandson Howard, Grandson in Law (Leah's husband), brother Lloyd, sister Ruby, Nephew Alec, Niece Lynn, parents Alexander & Thurza. Don was a World War II Veteran, serving in the RAF in England as a Radar Technician. He related many stories about the Fighter Planes and the Pilots. He was a teacher by profession and a farmer at heart. He came to Craik in 1951, met Ethel and moved to Alyesbury. He was an active member of the Aylesbury community for over 50 years, moving to Craik in 2000 but still a part of Aylesbury. He served on the town's council for a number of years with his pal Hank Watkins. He was a member of both the Eastern Star and the Masons; Saskatchewan Teachers Federation; Alumni of the University of Saskatchewan; and a contributor to many various charities. Thank you to Don's friends for visiting him in the Health Centre and a Special Thank You to the Staff of the Craik Health Centre for making Don's last few months so comfortable. Memorial will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Aylesbury Community Hall. FRANCIS - Alfhild L. E. Francis passed away at Craik Health Centre, Saturday, September 30, 2006. Alfhild was born in Ironwood, Mich. on February 23, 1906, and came to Canada with her family to homestead SW 34-21-28 in 1907. She attended Hallville School southwest of Aylesbury. Alfhild married Clyde Francis in 1934, where they lived and farmed in the Hallville area until retirement to Moose Jaw. She moved to Midlakes Manor at Craik, and then became a resident of the Health Centre until her passing. Alfhild was predeceased by Clyde in 2004 and son Lloyd. She is survived by three sons: Gil (Pam) of Saskatoon, Norm (Ann Marie) of Craik, Earl (Garnett) of Saskatoon; one daughter, Evelyn (Ron Linford) of Edson, AB; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw. Ann Marie Francis will officiate. FRANCIS - William Clyde, of Craik, Saskatchewan, passed away at the Craik Health Centre on Thursday, January 15th, 2004. A private family service will take place at a later date. Clyde was born on April 9th, 1907 and raised in Southern Ontario. He came to Saskatchewan on a harvest excursion in 1925. He stayed and worked on farms near Aylesbury. Clyde met and married Alfhild Anderson in 1934. They farmed in Hallville School District, southwest of Aylesbury, until 1972 when he retired to Moose Jaw. He moved to Craik in 1989. Clyde was predeceased by his son Lloyd in 1978. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alfhild; 3 sons: Gil (Pam) of Saskatoon, Norm (Ann Marie) of Craik, and Earl (Garnett) of Saskatoon; daughter Evelyn (Ron Linford) of Edson, AB; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. GILMOUR - John William (August 7, 1934 - September 2, 2012). The family of Jack Gilmour are saddened to announce his passing at age 78 years after a short battle with lung cancer. Jack is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, Karen and their three children: Lori of Calgary, Ron (Stella) of Craik and Ray (Coralee) of Edmonton; 6 grandchildren: George, Vivian, Ashley, Adam, Garrett and Kennedy; as well as sister Pat (Al) of Indian Head and 4 Buckingham brothers-in-law: Doug (Rita), Neil, Russ and Bernie; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was born on the farm to Bill and Betty in the midst of the dirty thirties and his vocation and passion was always farming. He took over the family farm at the young age of 21 when his own father died prematurely. Jack expanded the operation through the years and was very proud that his son Ron has carried on as the fourth generation. Jack was always a good neighbor and was very active in the community as a board member of the Aylesbury Curling Club, Aylesbury Skating Rink, Hallville Snowplough Club, Hallville Telephone Company, Aylesbury Farm Club and the Hustler Machinery Club. Through the years, Jack was an avid curler and enjoyed many 'bonspiels' - collecting a few boxes of trophies along the way and thoroughly enjoying the social aspects of the game. He was a loyal Craik Warriors hockey fan and in his later years he spent many hours reading and watching television becoming well versed in world politics. Ann Marie Francis will officiate and interment will follow at Aylesbury Cemetery. HANLEY - Jessie (nee Knight) 1917 - 2013. Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at her home. Jessie was predeceased by her husband Fred, her parents, Margaret and Eb Knight, by three brothers; Cecil, Gordon and Kenneth Knight and by one sister, Margaret May. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Karey Rowe (Rob) of Ontario and Heather Mykytiw of Moose Jaw, by her granddaughters Laurie Wehner (Kim), of Saskatoon, Angela and Zoe Mykytiw of Calgary, her great-grandchildren Ben (Laura) Schuster, Lori (Jordan) Parker and Jerika Schuster, Anna and Chad Wehner, and by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Jessie was born to Margaret and Eb Knight in Renfrew, Ontario on February 2, 1917, however was raised in Aylesbury, SK from infancy. She received her accounting certificate at the Moose Jaw Business College and worked in Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC. She met and married Fred Hanley and together they raised their daughters in Moose Jaw. From a very early age, she began developing a love of art, and studied art throughout her entire life. She was best known for this passion and enjoyed many positions with the Moose Jaw Art Guild. She remained active as a member of the Art Museum until very recently. Jessie was also known for her vibrant outgoing personality. She was a 56 year resident of her neighborhood, and took great pride in her home and gardens. She loved her independence and at the age of 95 she continued to drive her own car. Throughout her life she was very supportive of many charitable organizations, and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1977. At Jessie's request, a memorial service will be held in the spring on a date to be announced. HEINEN - Anne Martha (nee Sperling). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Heinen. Anne was born on June 20, 1918 in Aylesbury, SK and passed away peacefully Sunday, October 29, 2006 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. A daughter to George and Magdalena Sperling. She was raised in the Aylesbury District and was schooled at Willow Bluff and Hallville Schools. In 1940 she married Arnold Heinen and together they farmed and raised six children, three sons and three daughters. Anne had thirteen grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her numerous games of cards, freshly baked scuffles and her warm heart. She had a very strong faith and always prayed for and gave wholly of herself to those who knew her well in their time of need. Walter is survived by his wife Theresa McKenzie; his daughter Prudence (Wylie); his sons Dion, Leon, Terry (looking), and Gerry (Shannon); his grandchildren Crystal, Steven, Robyn, Mitchell, and Jayme; his sisters Gail (Ray) and Faye. Walter was predeceased by his parents Howard and Ethel Hunt, his stepfather Don, and his sister Donna. Walter lived in Aylesbury SK in his younger years, growing up working in his father's garage. He worked various jobs that allowed him to travel throughout the province. Some of his best memories include working for the railroad. Walter moved to La Ronge SK in 1965. He met his wife Theresa and raised their five children in the northern community. Walter and Theresa moved out to Wadin Bay and for many years this became his haven. Walter will be remembered for his lively sense of humour, his time-recorded crosswords, and his great mind that filled his home with helpful inventions. He is now in heaven, telling everyone what to do. A come-and-go tea was held Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Eagle Point Golf Course in La Ronge SK. IHLE - Kathleen Maude (nee Leake) Stewart Ihle passed away peacefully at Chez Nous in Moose Jaw on September 7, 2005 at age 101. Born in Banbury England on July 13, 1904 she moved with her family to Canada in 1907, settling in the Banbury School District, south of Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. She grew up enjoying helping her parents with the farm work. She met and married Harvey Stewart of the Barrett School District. They moved to Sunset School District southwest of Findlater where they raised their family of five children, later retiring to Moose Jaw. Widowed in 1954, she married Walter Ihle in 1959 and they moved to Red Deer, Alberta. After Walter died in a construction accident Kathleen moved back to Moose Jaw in 1978. For the past decade she made her home at Chez Nous Senior Citizen Home. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the management and staff for the excellent care that she received while there. The kindness and compassion shown to her will always be remembered. Predeceased by her parents Maude and Jack Leake (1965, 1967), brother Harry (1994), sister Winnifred (1908), sister Winnie (2001), husband Harvey Stewart (1954), husband Walter Ihle (1978), son Robert Stewart (1997), daughter Margaret Howell (1998), son-in-law Joseph Pelletier (2004). JOHNSON - Blanche Ella (nee Welwood), was born at Grand Coulee, SK. She passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2003. She received her education at Grand Coulee School and in Regina. She taught school at Girvin, Disley, Chaplin and Aylesbury. Blanche kept up lifetime friendships with many of her pupils. She married Verne Johnson, November 1, 1943 at Craik, SK. They lived at Aylesbury until 1949 then moved to Moose Jaw, where she continued to live. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Alfred Welwood; her loving husband Verne in 1988; dear brothers: Lloyd, Ernest and Elmer; sister Irene Shanks. She is survived by two sons: Jerald (Sheena) of Calgary, AB, and Lyle of Moose Jaw; grandson Scott; granddaughter Allyson of Calgary; sisters: Muriel Welwood of Regina and Ruth (Norman) Nichols of Wolesley; nieces and nephews, in-laws and a special brother-in-law Robert Johnson of Moose Jaw. Blanche and her husband were involved at the beginning of the building of Grandview United Church. She was a charter member of the church and U.C.W. She taught Sunday School, C.G.I.T., Baby Band and kept the archives for many years. Blanche loved her family and had many life long friends. She and her husband travelled to many countries. After his death, she continued to travel, meeting many new friends. She greeted everyone with a smile and thought life was for living. LANG - Alice (1932 - 2017) passed away peacefully at St. Paul�s Hospital in Saskatoon.�Alice was predeceased by her husband Wilf, infant son Jeff, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters.�She is survived by her daughters Erin, Mary (Lawrence), her son Brett, her in-laws Marilyn and Greg Petroski, Ed Krieser and Betty Lang, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Alice�s life was focused on her family and a love of nature and literature. She continued to enjoy reading and challenging herself with crossword puzzles to the end. LESLIE - Kenneth H. of Aylesbury, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Craik and District Health Center. Kenneth was the oldest of three children born to Robert and Matie Leslie of Stillwater Minnesota on March 8, 1912 He was predeceased by his parents, sister Myrna and brother in law Martin Luther. He leaves to mourn, brother Robert, two nephews, David (Frances), Clifford (Debbie) and their children and relatives in the U.S.A. Uncle Kenny's life consisted of hard work, and visiting with people. Farming was his life. Although he was not a pioneer, he lived in a sod house 1 mile from Aylesbury with his parents for several years. He saw a lot of changes in his lifetime. From the farm, they later moved to a place where he could see the town of Aylesbury SK, which at one time had 5 elevators, (now only 1). He used to see up to 5 steam trains on any given day, then came the diesel locomotives, and then came none. He was there to see No. 11 highway go from a trail, to a super 4 lane highway, and remembered the start of certain political parties, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and the Canadian Wheat Board. Kenny had a mind for business. With money he had raised from trapping muskrats along the Arm River Valley, by 1930 he was able to purchase 2 cows and a Polled Hereford Bull, and from that start, he raised a fine herd of Polled Herefords, selling breeding bulls to many people in Sask. Later, his brother joined him, Leslie Brothers Polled Herefords. Friends are invited to a graveside service which will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Aylesbury Cemetery. LEWIS - Robert James. On Wednesday, June 18, 2008 Robert "Bob" Lewis, late of Aylesbury, SK, passed away at the age of 71 years Predeceased by his parents Jim and Rachel Lewis; sister Mabel Calder; and father-in-law Brue Edbom. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Doreen; daughters, Lorrie (Warren) Pihrag, Ginny (Norwood) McGregor, Sandy Lewis, Heather (Trevor) Pihrag; and son, Greg Lewis; sixteen grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at Warren and Lorrie Pihrag's Farm, Aylesbury on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with Jim Atcheson officiating. Interment in Aylesbury Cemetery. MCALPINE - Neil was born in Craik on Valentine's day, 1918 and passed away in Craik on Sunday, November 7, 2004. He was the second of four children with Maxine (d-1917), Ruth and Lloyd (d-1949), born to Duncan (d-1964) and Elspeth McAlpine (d-1975). They lived in Craik until Neil was in grade 8. At this time they moved to Neil's Uncle Malcom's farm east of Aylesbury. He finished school in Aylesbury and worked for his dad and neighbours until he enlisted in the army in 1941. Neil served with VIII Recce (14th Canadian Hussars) in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was very proud of his time in action and made many lifelong friends during those years. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to work with his dad, repairing elevators for Western Grain (later Pioneer) all over the prairies. After the death of his brother, he started farming north of Aylesbury. Neil met and married Jean in 1952, had 2 sons Len, Nigel (Jo) and the pride of his later years, 2 granddaughters, Lynley and Jenny. He turned the farming operation over to Len and helped on the farm until Jean and Neil moved to Craik in 2000. Neil was always quick to help at family and community projects or give a hand to a neighbour, without expecting anything in return. He was the second of four generations of Saskatchewan Roughrider fans and enjoyed golfing and curling. The highlight of his curling was in 1979 representing Saskatchewan in the Canadian Legion Senior Playoffs in Woodbridge, Ont., throwing lead rocks. Neil spent much of his spare time reading or watching any type of sports on TV. He especially enjoyed visiting with family and old friends. Neil enjoyed good health until the last few months. He moved into the Craik and District Health Centre, where he was very appreciative of the care he received from the kind and capable people there. Neil requested cremation and no funeral. Interment in the Aylesbury Cemetery will be at a later date. McCREARY - Ruby Ann (nee Pound) passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Moose Jaw Extendicare after being a resident there for 7 1/2 years. Ruby was born in Saskatoon, SK on December 10, 1920. She resided in the Aylesbury district. She married Cecil Allan McCreary on January 2, 1943. They continued to live in the Aylesbury district until 1955. They then moved to Moose Jaw where Ruby was a psychiatric nurse for 30 years at Valley View Centre. She retired December 3, 1985 after which she travelled extensively with her husband. She was a member of the Craik Eastern Star since 1945 and president of the Minto United Church U.C.W. for two years. Ruby is predeceased by her husband, Cecil in 1994; daughter Shirley Ann in 1947; grandsons: Christopher Wade McCreary in 1982; Timothy Wayne McCreary in 1990; siblings: Don and Jean Pound, Joe Pound, Pearl and Jack Broughton. Ruby will be sadly missed by her children: Bill (Carol), Allan (Bonnie), Stewart (Eileen) and Bonnie (Harry) Clark; grandchildren: Colleen (Greg) Gardner, Tyler, Kyle, Steven (Felisa), Laurie (Lindsay), Irvin, Angie and Terry Clark and great grandchild, Riley T.W. John Beverly Norman, late of Aylesbury, SK, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 65 years. Predeceased by his father Irvin and brothers Gordon and Earl, John will be sadly missed by his mother Mabel, brother Doug (Brenda), sister-in-law Glenda, nine nephews and nieces, as well as many friends and relatives. Cremation. PADBURY - George Edward "Ted". A very special man passed away in Regina on August 17, 2006 at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased by his parents Reginald and Alice Padbury; sister Audrey Ferguson and brother Frank Padbury. PATTON - Marjorie (nee Styles) passed away at Pioneers Lodge in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Monday, August 4, 2003 at the age of 89 years, after a difficult but courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband, Lloyd in 1997, she is survived by her daughter, Lorraine of Regina; three grandsons: Darrin (Julie) of Bahamas/Nelson, BC, Kevin (Gina) of Regina, and Shawn (Erin) also of Regina; three great grandchildren: Katelyn, Michael, and Mathew. PHILLIPS - Leslie Robert Phillips was born in the Aylesbury district on Jan. 14th 1921 and passed away on July 16th, 2005. Les joined the Air Force in 1940, served overseas and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was reunited with his childhood friend Thelma Buckingham and returned to Moose Jaw in 1948 after they were married. Les was a partner in a general contracting business before he joined the PFRA where he worked as a carpenter for 20 years. He retired in 1975 at which time he and Thelma left Moose Jaw and worked for 11 years at a R.V. park in Ontario and at the Craik Regional Park in the summers. They travelled to Mesa for the winters. While in Mesa he worked at the paper office in the Good Life Park. Les and Thelma spent 27 years making their winter home in Arizona and their summer home in Craik. Les enjoyed baseball, hockey, golfing, boating and travelling which they did throughout the USA, Canada and beyond. Les was predeceased by his wife Thelma, step son Russell, infant sister Grace, mother Maude, father Walter and three brothers-in-law. He is survived by sisters Beulah Calvert and Doreen (Lionel) Hender, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. Also numerous nieces, nephews and his world wide circle of friends. Interment family plot Aylesbury cemetery. SCOTT - Barbara Elizabeth. It is with deep sorrow that we announce Barbara's death on Feb. 9 at Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon. Pre-deceased by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Scott and her bother, Douglas, she is survived by her brother Robert G. Scott (Jean) #304 Marine Way, Sechelt, BC V0N 3A6 and her cousin Beth Hone (McGregor) of Lumsden, SK S0G 3C0, other relatives and many friends. Barbara was born on Aug. 26 in Regina and the family lived in small towns in Saskatchewan including Aylesbury, Magee and Zealandia. At 19 she went to Mount Forest, ON to live with her grandmother Mrs. George Brebber. After her grandmother's death Barbara was among the first women to join the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC). After the war she trained and worked as a psychiatric nurse in Weyburn and North Battleford. From 1953 on she worked at the University Hospital in Saskatoon until her retirement. Barbara has touched the lives of many people. Her friends and associates are invited to attend a memorial service and reception to celebrate her life. It will be held at the Unitarian Centre 912 Idylwyld, Saskatoon on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. Rev. Linda Weaver Horton will lead the service. Barbara's ashes have been placed in the Columbarium at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon. SCOTT - Helen Mary Scott (July 3, 1925 - April 18, 2012). It is with a profound sense of sorrow, yet a quiet blessing for mom, that the family announces Helen's passing at St. Anne's Nursing home in Saskatoon at the age of 86. Helen was born in Davidson and raised in Aylesbury. After completing grade 12 she moved to Regina where she got her secretarial diploma. In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart Allan, and they soon moved to Hamilton. Mom worked at Eatons in the main office doing collections while Dad worked at Stelco Steel Company. After two years they were called to take over the Scott farm near Aylesbury. They started farming in the spring of 1950 and mom soon took on the role of farmwife. Together they had 6 children. She often said that raising the family on the farm was the only way she would have wanted it. Mom was a beautiful soul who always put others ahead of herself. Her family's happiness was first and foremost. She loved doting on her children and then her grandchildren which became the pride and joy of her life. Shopping was her passion and it showed in the classy way she dressed. She was elegant, fashionable and stylish. Mom was quiet spoken, never raised her voice in anger and was kind and compassionate to all. She never forgot birthdates, anniversaries or people's names. She enjoyed curling, golf, baseball and then in later years she loved playing cards and her many trips to Hawaii. Upon retirement in 1993, they moved to Saskatoon to begin the next phase of life. Mom and Dad were married for 64 years. To the very end Mom's eyes lit up when Dad came near. He was the love of her life! SMITH - Ida Leroy (nee Crush) Smith of Craik passed away peacefully on November 10, 2010 at the Craik and District Health Care Centre with her family at her side; she was 89 years of age. Ida was predeceased by the love of her life, Ernie, in 1985, as well as brothers Tom, Arthur, Walter and George. Ida is also survived by many nieces and nephews, relatives in England, special friends Dorothy Carveth, Betty Swanson and Wanda Parodis, as well as numerous other friends. Mom grew up in Findlater SK and attended High School at Scott Collegiate in Regina. In 1942 she married Ernie Smith. In the years to follow Ida and Ernie owned the Aylesbury Hotel and were part owners of Ernie & Jack's General Store with Meda and Jack Gates. During these years mom enjoyed curling and bringing home many bonspiel trophies. Shortly after closing Ernie & Jack's mom started working at the Co-op store in Craik. Henceforth, they made their home in Craik. Many hours she spent making quilts, doing all kinds of needle work and painting. She loved playing bridge and playing cards. Doing crossword puzzle was a daily event. Mom loved to visit with her family and friends. She was very involved in the Anglican Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She did her share of traveling, but loved just being at home in the later years and spending summers with her son in Mervin SK. A graveside service for family was held at the Aylesbury Cemetery on November 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Hilda Dale officiating. SPERLING - George B. On Thursday, September 27, 2007, George B. Sperling passed away peacefully in his home at Craik, Saskatchewan, at the age of 87. He was born June 21, 1920 on the family homestead near Aylesbury, SK. George is predeceased by his parents George and Magdalena Sperling, infant daughter Wanda, brothers John Sperling and Joseph Sperling, and sisters Agatha Heinen and Anne Heinen. Left to remember him are his wife of 59 years Emelia and children: Donna (Terry) Leibel of Pilot Butte, Norman (Lucille) Sperling of Rich Valley, AB, John (Cathy) Sperling of Craik, SK, Michael Sperling of Craik, SK, Richard (Wendy) Sperling of Yellowknife, NWT, Julie (William) Repski of Imperial, SK, Bernie (Cheryl) Sperling of Craik, SK, Nadine (Kerry) Hearn of Regina, SK, and Arlene Selinger of Craik, SK; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sisters: Rose Glover of Sylvan Lake, AB, Emma Omoth of Regina, SK, and Bernie Anderson of Craik, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. George attended Willow Bluff and Halvill schools. He served in the Canadian Air Force in World War II as an in-flight mechanical engineer. He farmed in the Aylesbury district for 37 years, until his retirement to Moose Jaw in 1982. In 2001, George and Emelia moved to Craik where he lived until the time of his passing. George dearly loved his family and always enjoyed the many visits. He will be forever missed by all for the many card games, playing pool, his kind words, his giggles and reciting poetry that he learned in school. The celebration of his life will be held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Craik Cemetery. STEEN - John "Elgin" Tisdale born September 30, 1911, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on November 28, 2004. Elgin is survived by his wife Marguerite (65 years married); daughter, Sharon (Garth) Sanders of Regina, Sandra (Bill) Bruneau of Vancouver; son Graeme (Roxanne Inch) of Saskatoon; grandchildren, Jill (Russ) Clarke, Allyson (Dean) McDonald of Regina, Heather (Michael) Morhart, Edmonton, Rochelle (Bill) Douris, Toronto, Jon (Maria) Bruneau of Coquitlam, Brad (Lauren) Sanders and Dori Sanders, Saskatoon; thirteen greatgrandchildren, and many extended family members. He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Alice Steen, sisters, Muriel, Gertrude and Grace; and brother, Melvin. Elgin was born and grew up on the family farm at Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. He farmed there until 1974 when he retired to Regina. His life was spent as a farmer and a musician, raising prize wheat and other grains, and avidly pursuing his musical interests. While farming was his livelihood, music was his passion. Elgin was a master player of the saxophone and clarinet and was a key player and music organizer in several dance bands in south central Saskatchewan (Melo-tone Five, McNabb's Orchestra, Steen's Orchestra, and the Liberty Orchestra). The Liberty Orchestra performed in many dancehalls including Manitou Beach and Temple Gardens. In Regina, he played in The Adult Lions Band and in the Canadian Legion Concert Band. In earlier years, he was a strong force in the development of participatory musical events and taught several students to play instruments while assisting with the development of the Craik Junior Band. Elgin's musical talents included his wonderful tenor voice. He sang in the Craik United Church Choir, the Whitmore Park United Church Choir, the Regina Male Voice Choir, and the Wa Wa Chanters. The sound of his music enriched many community events, funerals, weddings, and celebrations. Solos and duets with his daughter Sharon brought great joy to him. Elgin was a Past Master of Craik (Corinthian) Masonic Lodge and was presented with his 50 year pin in 2003. He was a member of Wa Wa Shrine and of the Order of the Eastern Star. Elgin Steen will be remembered in the hearts of his family and community as a "people person, " intensely interested in all aspects of their lives. He had a remarkable memory and a unique array of talents and commitments. A Memorial Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, on Saturday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Aylesbury Memorial Cemetery, Aylesbury. STEEN - Marguerite (nee Hill) August 14, 1914 - April 9, 2014. Marguerite passed away peacefully at the Parkside Extendicare Residence in Regina on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the age of ninety-nine, with family members by her side. Marguerite is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Sanders of Regina and Sandra Bruneau (Bill) of Vancouver; her son Graeme (Roxanne Inch) of Saskatoon; and grandchildren, Rochelle (Bill) Douris (Jade, Josiah, Nikolai, Milan) of Brampton, Jill (Russ) Clarke (Mitchell, Kyle, Lauren) of Regina, Jon (Maria) Bruneau (Sophie, Elena) of Coquitlam, Allyson (Dean) McDonald (Sydney, Liam) of Regina, Heather (Mike) Morhart (Claire, Seth, Kane) of Edmonton, Brad (Lauren) Sanders of Saskatoon and Dori Sanders (Tammy Ens) of Saskatoon. Marguerite is also survived by her sisters, Helen Hamilton of Barrie, ON and Joyce Lind of Moose Jaw; and by sisters-in-law, Gladys Hill of Winnipeg, Marie Hill of Hanna, AB, Faye Hill of High Level, AB and Nancy Hill of Toronto; as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband Elgin in 2004, and by her son-in-law Garth Sanders in 2014. She was also predeceased by her parents, Robert and Laura Hill; by three of five sisters, Myrtle, Marie and Roberta; and by five brothers, Harry, Bob, Gerald, Jack and Max. Marguerite was born and raised on a farm near Davidson, SK, but she lived most of her life on a farm near Aylesbury and in the town of Craik. In 1974, Marguerite retired with her husband Elgin to Regina. Her life was spent as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, musician and homemaker. Marguerite mastered the piano early in her life and became a registered piano teacher with her A.T.C.M. diploma. She shared her musical gifts with dozens of community members by teaching piano. Marguerite was also the organist at Aylesbury, Craik and Whitmore Park (Regina) United Churches. She was a member of several orchestras that played in central Saskatchewan towns: the McNabb Orchestra of Girvin, the Steen Orchestra involving both Marguerite and Elgin, and the Steen Liberty Orchestra, which performed in many towns and halls including Dance Land in Watrous, and Temple Gardens in Moose Jaw which was recorded on Saturday nights and played on CHAB radio in Moose Jaw. Marguerite and Sharon frequently performed together, singing and playing at community events in the Craik/Aylesbury districts and later in Regina. Elgin and Marguerite performed together for years on saxophone/clarinet and piano, entertaining at weddings, anniversaries, church services, talent shows, and farewell parties. Marguerite also provided piano accompaniment for Graeme on his clarinet and saxophone. She held many offices in The Order of Eastern Star including Grand Organist for the province. After the couple's retirement to Regina, Marguerite joined the Daughters of the Nile and was elected Queen in 1994. Marguerite loved to entertain; she was a great cook, and she made the best home-made donuts and her pastry had no rival. Marguerite also loved to write (new) words to well-known songs in which everyone could participate. She had the most beautiful hand-writing and was an ardent correspondent with friends and relatives across Canada and northwest United States. Marguerite also kept meticulous records and albums of family pictures. She enjoyed travel; she packed the very best lunches for everyone to enjoy during long car trips. Best of all, Marguerite always put out the welcome mat for anyone who would like to visit, have a cup of tea, stay over, and tell good stories. Hers was a generous heart and she shared it with everyone.The family extends grateful thanks to Marguerite's many friends, neighbours, and family members. Bea was predeceased by parents David and Emma Thomson; brothers: Pat Thomson, Reginald and Romeo Bordessa; and husband Bill Taylor. She is survived by her sister Doris Spooner; son Ken (Paula), children Scott and Laurel, daughter Susan (Frank Wood), children Melody, Corina, Tylor, Shannon and Lliam; daughter Shirley (Rod Wood), children Credence and Terra; great granddaughters Ellan and Kallie; nieces and nephews Lynda Bordessa, David (Deb) Spooner, Betty Ann (Lutz) Heim, Joy (Jim) Brickell, Rick (Maggie) Spooner. Bea was born September 12, 1923 on the family farm at Aylesbury, Sask. and grew up in that district. On August 21, 1943 Bea married Bill Taylor at St. Andrew's Church in Moose Jaw. Bill was a member of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and was in Canada as a part of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Bea was a "reverse" war bride crossing the Atlantic during the war to join her husband in England and subsequent postings from Scotland to Singapore. In 1960 Bea returned to Saskatchewan with her family following Bill's retirement from the military. Bea was a very active volunteer in a number of community organizations and spent many hours in support of the Royal Canadian Legion - Regina Branch. UNTERINER - Aloysius "Al" aged 92 years, of Moose Jaw and formerly of Aylesbury, Saskatchewan passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SK. Rev. Fr. Barry Anwender will be the Presiding Celebrant and interment will take place in Chamberlain Cemetery at a later date. Al born August 2, 1912 at Odessa, Saskatchewan. He moved to Aylesbury at a young age, where he farmed until retiring and moving to Kelowna in 1978. Al returned to Moose Jaw in 1999. Al is predeceased by his wife, Marion (1961); wife, Irene (1996); daughter, Alice Kipper; sister; Wilhema Bitz; brother, Anthony. He is survived by his son, Leroy Unteriner of Aylesbury; daughter, Audrey Silzer of Moose Jaw; son-in-law, Ernie Kipper of Lillooet, BC; grandchildren: Marion, Colin, Bernadette, Angela, Geoffrey, Gregory, Grant; great grandchildren: Jade, Elizabeth, Tayler, Elias, Audrey, Brandon, Devin; sister, Edith (George) Zerr of Indian Head; John Unteriner of Regina; Andrew Unteriner of Regina; Paul Unteriner of Moose Jaw; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. WATKINS - Henry Watkins (March 4, 1917 - April 26, 2009). Henry Watkins passed away peacefully at the Craik & District Health Centre on Sunday April 26th, 2009. He had been a resident of that facility since May 2008, where he received the best medical and supportive care that anyone could hope for. The family thanks Dr. Maree and the staff very much. Henry was the eldest of the six Watkins brothers raised in the Banbury district south of Aylesbury. He was predeceased by his parents Amy (1950) and Bert (1971), step-mother Hazel (1976) and his first wife Mary (1985). He is survived by his wife Marguerite of Aylesbury and his brothers Frank of Aylesbury, Albert (Pat) of Qualicum, B.C., John (Peggy) of Regina, George (Lesa) of Aylesbury, and Dave Sr. (Ruby) of Moose Jaw. Henry is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hank was active on the family farm from an early age, including chauffeuring his dad on cattle buying trips starting at age 13. He was mechanically inclined and eventually received his mechanics certificate and was employed by Moose Jaw Distributors and later Hunt's Garage in Aylesbury. He was also employed by the railway to pump water for the steam locomotives, including a stint at Findlater where he met his first wife Mary (Colbert). Hank and Mary returned to the farm and continued grain farming until the mid 70's when they retired to Aylesbury. During his farming career, he often worked the winters at Hunt's. He also was employed as telephone repair and lineman on the rural lines during this era. As many will remember, Hank also drove school bus during the 50's and 60's. When the snow plugged the roads, he prided himself on getting the kids to school on time in the Bombardier. Mary passed away in 1985 and Hank married Marguerite (Heinen) in 1988. During their time together, Hank helped Marguerite develop a beautiful yard and park on their property in Aylesbury. It is still a beautiful spot in the village. Hank loved fishing, and whether it was over the water or on the ice, he had a knack for finding the hot spots. He made many friends through his love of fishing. Hank will probably be remembered mostly for his commitment to his community and helping others. He was a tireless volunteer. He served the R.M. of Craik as councilor and reeve during the 60's. He was either on council or mayor of Aylesbury for many years, and served as the village maintenance man as well. Hank spearheaded the installation of a pipeline and infrastructure to supply Aylesbury with quality drinking water. He took on Canada Post when they closed the Aylesbury Post Office, and with the support of the community he was able to have it reinstated. We still have a post office! Hank installed natural ice in the skating rink for years and years, and brought smiles to many a young person who were waiting for the go ahead for the first skate of the season. Hank touched a lot of people with acts of kindness. Whether it was fresh fish dropped at their door, or a hand made rope, or a mechanical repair or some other favour, he did what he could to help people and was happy to do so. A private family funeral will be held for Henry at Parkview Funeral Chapel, in Moose Jaw, SK. Interment will take place immediately after in Aylesbury Cemetery. WATKINS - Theresa May (nee Scott) of Aylesbury, SK passed away quietly November 27, 2007 at the age of 84 years. She was born Theresa May Scott in the Willow Bluff District on November 30, 1922. Theresa was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Catherine and her brothers Russell and Jim. She is survived by her husband Frank; her children Brian (Judy), Raymond (Annemieke), Russell (Sharon), Clifford (Nora), Kathy (Roger) Brecheen, brothers Cecil (Mary), Gordon (Dorothy), Allan (Helen), eleven grand children, four great grandchildren as well as numerous brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Craik United Church. Interment will be in the Aylesbury Cemetery. Fellowship to follow in Aylesbury Community Hall. WATT - Opal Jane Watt (nee Pound) passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Craik Health Center on June 23rd, 2002. Opal was born in Aylesbury on November 10, 1923. She grew up on a farm in the Foxbury district and attended rural schools in the area. After high school she joined they navy as a member of WRCNS, where she served her country faithfully from 1943-1945. During her time in the navy she married her home town sweetheart Arthur Watt in Cornwallis Nova Scotia on December 27th, 1944. They have been happily married for fifty seven years, and will be always together in their hearts. Opal spent the majority of her life on the farm where she routinely adopted strays of all sorts. Opal was a great lover of nature and could often be found sitting on the steps enjoying the outdoors. Opal was also a lover of words, she spent countless hours chasing them through book after book of word searches. Opal was a loving wife & mother as well as an irreplaceable grandmother. Opal was many things to many people, she will be fondly remembered & forever cherished by those whose lives she touched. Predeceased by his parents Cyril & Jenny West & sister Pamela West. Born July 7th, 1947 in Moose Jaw, SK. Al grew up in the Aylesbury District. Al was active & competitive in hockey, baseball & curling. He married Judy Swanson in 1972 & for 32 years they have worked the farm they love so dearly & raised their children. Al's greatest pleasures were watching hockey at the rink & on TV, especially going to Russ's games. In 2002 his special grandbaby Kelsee came to him. He was a wonderful grandpa. Through all the hardships in agriculture they perservered to put a crop in every year. Even this spring as the neighbours had a seeding bee, Al so weak finished the last few hours himself. Al will be missed greatly by friends & neighbours for he always had a smile on his face & gave everything he had to anyone who needed it more. Al's family will be forever grateful to the community for their support & Dr. Maree & staff at the Craik Health Center for your comapassion in Al's last days. WOOLSEY - Clara Eldeen (nee Elliott) August 20, 1918 - November 7, 2011. Eldeen's rich life came to a peaceful end on Monday, November 7, in hospital in Balcarres, Sask. Her 93 years were filled with love she loved books, conversation, music, traveling, organizing, dancing, cards, baseball, church, and more than anything, family and friends. In return, they loved her for her fierce loyalty and wise advice. A true child of the plains, Eldeen was born in a granary, a temporary residence for her family while a grand new farmhouse was being built outside Aylesbury. One of four children, she excelled in school and went to the Moose Jaw Normal School to become a teacher. Her first posting, in 1937-38, was to a oneroom country school near Macrorie, then to Penzance where she met and married Everett Woolsey on July 21, 1941. The couple lived in Regina, where Eldeen worked in oil rationing during the war years, until moving to Outlook in 1947, where she and Everett launched a business building and upholstering furniture. It was back to Penzance in 1951, with a farm equipment and hardware business, before Eldeen returned to teaching in 1954. In 1957 the Woolsey's moved to Cupar, where Eldeen taught in the primary division for 22 years until retiring in 1979, becoming a mainstay of the school, the United Church and the community. She went on to live several years in retirement at the Queen Victoria Estates, where she charmed a new community of friends, before moving recently to the seniors' care residence in Balcarres. Eldeen was predeceased by Everett and by brothers Arvid Elliott and Clancy Elliott and their wives Bunny and Alice and brother-in-law Jens Neilson. She is survived by sister Mildred Neilson, sister-in-law Sue Elliott and Eldeen's three sons, so proud of her all these years Randy (Kazumi) of Kasama, Japan, Garth of Toronto and Rob (Barb) of Cupar. Her grandchildren are Justin Woolsey (Emi) of Tokyo, Jenny Harris (Stuart) of Hong Kong, Nikki Woolsey of Toronto, Kyle Woolsey of Colborne, Ont., Reiss Woolsey of Cupar and Vaughn Woolsey of Regina. Her greatgrandchildren are Layla Harris of Hong Kong and Grace Woolsey of Tokyo. Many nieces and nephews and their children are a beloved part of Eldeen's extended family. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 with refreshments to follow. |
