Query: I am trying to find out what happened to my ancestors. John McMillan and his wife Marion McLeamont left Edinburgh, SCT abt. September 1, 1787. They arrived in NC almost a year later with a small child born on board ship. It is rumored that they travelled with one of John's brothers, possibly William, but he never arrived in NC with them, that we can find. I am trying to see if they may of possibly land in another port for a period of time to get John's brotehr established before they travelled on to NC and their land grants they had for there. I have been told with the time of year they left SCT in some cases NS was used as a layover location, due to the weather, before travellers moved on either in land or south to America. Is there anyone who may be familiar with this pratice and which port may of been used, I don't know the ship name, and what records may have survived from that period, 1787 - 1788? If I can find John's brother it would confirm this, his name was William McMillan, b. abt. 1763.

We think she was born in Greenfield, N.S., and are guessing it was the Colchester County Greenfield. My wife's maternal grandmother, maiden name Jennie Victoria Shea, was born October 8, 1862, the daughter of Matthew Shea and Ruth Downing. Matthew and Ruth had three children: Jennie, Florence and Oliver. It was Ruth's second marriage: she previously had two children Charles and John by a --- Smith. Jennie had received a letter written in 1907 by an "Aunt Dorothy" in Greenfield, Colchester County, N.S. Dorothy was apparently the daughter of James Downing and Dorothy Whidden. Any information on their N.S. ancestors would be appreciated. We'd be glad to share info in return.

Counties: Shelburne
Surnames: DUFF
Query: Hello! In a microfilm indexing of Loyalist muster lists from the LDS Family History Library, a John DUFF and a David DUFF were noted as privates in the Loyal American Regiment commanded by Beverly ROBINSON. I haven't found much about this regiment, but apparently it was raised in New York (state)and many of the regiment were taken by ship to Shelburne, NS at the close of the Revolutionary War.
If possible, I'd like to determine if Shelburne was where John and David DUFF were located, following the War. Would there be exisiting records where I could get some indication as to whether John and David DUFF were among those taken to Shelburne? Would they have been granted some land, perhaps, for their service? if so, do records still exist of such land grants? Or is there something else that might show if this was the direction they headed?

Query: I am exhausting all avenues. I was adopted 26 years ago, and have been trying to locate my biological family for the past 8 years. If anyone has any information that may help add to the following. Please email. My birth name was DEBORAH LYNN HAMILTON, born September 7, 1971, at St. Rita's Hospital. My mother's mother would still be alive assumably, however my grandfather passed away just before i was born. I was told 2 years ago that my fathers' name is JAMES MCLEOD, he was in his twenties at the time of my birth. I was also told that he may have served in the American Army at one time. I only have non-identifiying information, so it is very vague what I am passing on. Any information big or small would be greatly appreciated.
