He was a long-time post master in Hantsport; retired member of Hantsport Volunteer Fire Department; was awarded in 1986 for his many years as a volunteer in numerous capacities. He was a lifetime member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Hantsport, where he was also a member of the choir. He was a Scout leader for many years in Hantsport, played third base for the provincial championship team, Hantsport Shamrocks, in the 1960s, and was an avid gardener, hunter and bowler. Born in New Germany, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Edward James and Annie Laurie (Morton) Zwicker. As a boy he belonged to the Boy Scouts of Canada and played baseball. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1936, with an engineering diploma and bachelor of science degree. In 1938 he graduated from the Nova Scotia Technical College with a bachelor of electrical engineering degree. He belonged to the reserves of the Canadian Army for two years when he was in Dalhousie. He worked for the Nova Scotia Power Corporation in the Annapolis Valley, installing lines and at the dam at Gaspereau Lake. He tested concrete for the Department of Highways for a time. He moved to Bathurst, N.B., in 1942 and worked as an engineer for the Bathurst Pulp and Paper Company until 1949. He then moved back to Lunenburg County, living in Hemford for a while. In 1950 he and his brother, Robert, formed Pinehurst Box Factory Ltd. and operated it until 1975 when he retired and closed the factory. He was a caretaker for many years of Pinehurst Community Cemetery. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Province of Nova Scotia and a member of New West Pines United Church, Pinehurst. Born in West Dublin, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Enos and Julia (Bell) Wolfe. After many years living in the Halifax area and having been employed with Sears Canada, Halifax, she retired 12 years ago to her birthplace with her husband. Evelyn was a devoted wife and companion to her husband of 50 years and a friend to all who came in contact with her and to all she knew, both of which were a great source of pride for her. She enjoyed gardening, card playing and took an active part in supporting her community. She was a long faithful member of St. John's Anglican Church, West Dublin, and the Alter Guild. Evelyn was a member of the Emerald Rebekah Lodge, Branch 66, West Dublin, for 50 years. She moved to the St. Margarets Bay area in 1933 with her family, were she resided for 66 years. David "Super Dave" will be greatly missed by many friends he made during his short time with us, especially his last employer Laurie and Rita Zinck; and son, Blair, West Northfield where he worked five years on their mixed farm. No job was too big or too small for Dave to do, from woods work, construction, auto mechanics and he took such pride making hay, starting at the early age of seven, on his parents farm in Lower Northfield ending at Zinck farm this summer. David asked for very little in life, but gave so much to all who knew him. KING, Andrew F. - 86, Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, and formerly of Halifax, died peacefully, surrounded by the love and presence of his family in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital on September 19, 1999. Born in Lunenburg in 1912, he was a son of the late Frank and Beulah (Morash) King. Andrew came to Halifax as a bookkeeper and later taught accounting courses at the Halifax Business College. Subsequently, he worked for Revenue Canada as a taxation auditor for 37 years and later established a practice as a public accountant. Andrew served as a church elder and as a cub leader of St. Augustine's Church in Jollimore. He was a secretary/treasurer of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association, a long-time member of the Armdale Yacht Club as well as the Waegwaltic Club. He participated in sculling races in the original North West Arm Rowing Club. Andrew was an avid sailor, skater, skier, and musician. He was a loving husband, caring father and father-in-law, precious grandfather and devoted friend. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Grant, Baddeck; son, John King, Lewis Lake; his son-in-law, Rod Grant; and daughter-in-law, Helen (Fritz) King; grandsons, Jason Grant, Andrew and Joseph King, and by a sister, Charlotte More, Liverpool. Monday, September 20, 1999 The Halifax Herald Limited THOMAS, Ralph Moyle THOMAS, Ralph Moyle - 89, Midville Branch, formerly of Indian Point, Lunenburg Co., died September 18, 1999, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Indian Point, he was a son of the late Herbert and Flora (Langille) Thomas. When he was nine years old, during summer months, he sailed off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, working on the schooner as a cabin boy and fish cutter. When he was 18 he skippered a 48 foot private yacht to New York. Staying in the United States, he worked in Connecticut with the Bullard Machine Company, where he worked and received his Journeymakers Certificate status. During the depression he went to Montreal and worked with the Imperial Oil Company on various oil tankers and continued sailing abroad where, in 1932, he received his Chief Mate's certificate at the age of 22. He then was employed at the Imperial Oil Company location in Dartmouth. In 1937 he moved to Talara, Peru, working with the International Petroleum Company, based out of New York. His family joined him in Peru eight months later. In 1943 he returned to Canada and joined the merchant marines. During the Second World War he was included in the North Atlantic convoys. After the war, he continued to sail until the late 1940s when he then accepted a shore position with Imperial Oil and continued to work there until he attained the position of day foremen and worked to his retirement in 1966. He then took a chief officer position with various CN ferries, running from Cape Tormentine to Borden, P.E.I. After his final retirement he became active in various bridge clubs, obtaining his junior masters at the age of 71. He also toured Canada and the United States with his wife, Reta. During his life, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and gardener. He was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Chester Branch. He was a veteran of the Second World War from 1939-1945, he served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment; and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater. He was a son of the late Cyril and Delia (Muckler) Johnson. Jack began his career as a teacher in 1948, teaching at Ardmore and Westmount schools. Also from 1969 to 1981 was principle of St. Andrews School retiring in 1962 with 34 years service with the Halifax City School Board.
