South Alton - Clinton Aalders, 76, of South Alton died Tuesday, Aug 12,1975, in Shady Rest Home, Aylesford. Born in Aaldersville, he was the son of the late Rodney and Effie (Hatchard) Aalders. He is survived by five sons, Foster, Billtown, Kings County; Bernard and Oren, both of Dartmouth; Eugene and Laurie, both of South Alton; two daughters, Verna (Mrs. Ulli Poehl), Centreville, Kings County; and Onarel (Mrs. John Doyle), North Alton; two brothers, Irving, North Alton; Harold, Aaldersville; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Best, Cambridge; Mrs. Jennie Ross, Morristown, Kings County; Hazel (Mrs. Clyde Fetterley), Halifax; 29 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Emmeline Russell, in 1959. Funeral service will be held from St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, with Arch Deacon L.W. Mosher officiating. Burial, Elm Grove Cemetery.

Earle St. Clair Aalders, 64, of Kingston, died Saturday March 30, 1974 at Western Kings Memorial, Berwick. Born in Aaldersville, Lunenburg Co. he was the son of the late Rodney and Effie (Hatchard) Aalders. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Kingston Oddfellows Lodge and Kingston Lions Club. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Besides his wife, the former Beatrice Keddy, he is survived by two daughters, Faye (Mrs. Russell Scrim), Montreal; Joyce (Mrs. Philip Jacques), Bridgewater; a son, Kenneth, Kingston, Ont.; three sisters, Jessie (Mrs. Archibald Best), Prospect; Mrs. Clyde Fetterley), Halifax; three brothers, Ervin, North Alton; Clinton, South Alton; Harold, Aaldersville; 4 grandchildren. Funeral service, Kingston United Church. Burial in North Kingston Cemetery.

Aalders, George William - George William Aalders, 73, of Canaan, passed away suddenly at the
B.F.M. Hospital, Monday July 31,(1972). Born in Canaan, he was a son of the late David and Catherine (Beach) Aalders. He is survived by sisters, Katherine (Mrs. Arnold Burgher) Centreville and Annie (Mrs. Cyril Carlow) Bellmont, Mass; brothers Arthur, Lakeville and Willis, Canaan. Dr. L.W. Mosher officiated with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Aalders, Henry Lambert
Aalders, Henry Lambert - The community was shocked to hear that Henry Aalders had passed away at Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, on April 17 (1930), aged 58 years. Mr. Aalders, who had been ailing for some time, entered the hospital only a day or two previous, and friends did not anticipate anything serious and were quite unprepared for the news of his death. There were left to mourn their loss, his wife, six sons, and four daughters: Kenneth of Berwick; Cecil of Aaldersville; Paul of Montreal; Arnold, Harry and Clayton at home; Annie (Mrs. Ernest Russell, New Ross); Elsie, (Mrs. Walter Washburn, Berwick); Idella of Halifax, and Teresa at home. Burial was in the new cemetery at Aaldersville.
Burgoyne, Benjamin
Burgoyne, Benjamin - On Wednesday, Aug. 30th, (1916) there passed to the great beyond one of New Ross' noblest citizens, Benjamin Burgoyne aged 94 years and 5 months. He was born at Mahone Bay, April 1st, 1822, and came to New Ross with his parents when only 7 years of age. He spent the rest of his life there a tiller of the soil. He married Miss Mary Ann Aalders, who was younger than he, but whose birthday was also April 1st, and together they have raised a family of 3 sons and 7 daughters, Walter S. living in Windsor; Edgar N. on the homestead; Wellesley and Mary, who passed before; Agnes, Mrs. Ephraim R. Hiltz, of Kingsport; Adelaide, the widow of the late G. Thomas Hillman, of Halifax; Esther E. wife of Milledge Young, Mahone Bay; Mary E., wife of Harry Kaulbach, of Conquerall Mills; Emily E. wife of George E. Hatchard,Aaldersville, and Eva, at home, who with her mother has been his untiring attendant during the three years of his feebleness, paralysis. Aaldersville, named for his father-in-law Peter Aalders (one of the soldier pioneers), has much to thank the family of the deceased for it's improvement, particularly in the erection of the beautiful chapel of St. James in which the funeral service was held where the final resting place received his remains at the Parish Church Cemetery, at Charring Cross.

Burgoyne, Benjamin G. - Benjamin George Burgoyne passed away in his sleep early Tuesday morning, Feb 24th (1948). Mr. Burgoyne had been in his usual good health and his sudden passing was a shock to the community where he was born and held high regard. He was 72 this month. Besides his wife who was Miss Mabel Hiltz of Kingsport, Kings County, there is one son, Edgar, residing in Ontario and two grandchildren. Mr. Burgoyne was with the firm of J. Ernst & Son, Mahone Bay, for 24 years. Later he was employed with the Acadia Construction Company and recently at the Industrial Shipping Co., from which he retired because of his wife's illness which necessitated him remaining at home. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from Knox Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Bayview Cemetery.

Burgoyne, Cynthia May - 59, Aaldersville, died Tuesday Oct 6, 1987 in Miller Hospital, Kentville. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Florence (Lyon) Drewry. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Aaldersville Community Club and Charing Cross Garden Club; secretary of New Ross Consolidated School for 16 years; and took an active part in church and community affairs. She is survived by her husband, Ray, a son, Terrence, London, England; two daughters, Dawn, Halifax; Heather, Australia. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Kentville.

Burgoyne, Edgar Norwood - 81,respected resident and retired farmer of Aaldersville, died Monday, Oct 4, 1958 following a four-day illness. Mr. Burgoyne, who was a life-long resident of the community in which he resided, was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Ann Burgoyne. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Hiltz, Aaldersville; two sons; Clinton and Ray, Aaldersville; four daughters, Eva (Mrs. Aldon Durling) Kentville; Helen (Mrs. Floyd Smith) Aylesford; Edith and Mary, at home, one sister Mrs. George Hatchard, Aaldersville, and three grandchildren. Funeral service was held at St James Anglican Church, Aaldersville, on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30,with Rev Mr. Logan officiating. Burial was in the Aaldersville Cemetery.

Burgoyne, Ernest V. - 66,died 18 Aug 1970, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, Vermont, following a short illness. He was born Aug 12, 1904, in Windsor,Nova Scotia, son of Walter Burgoyne and Rose Hiltz (New Ross) . He married Marguerite Macumber Jan 13, 1924, in New York City. He attended schools in Canada, graduating from the Windsor Academy in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He entered the employment of The Royal Bank of Canada at Windsor, Nova Scotia, as a boy and his career covered all phases of the banking business. He graduated from The American Institute of Banking in New York City, became active and well-known in New York Banking Circles, and was a member of the American Bankers Assn. at the time of his retirement, he was manager and trust officer of The Royal Bank Trust Co. of New York City. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite, of Shoreham, Vermont; three daughters, Mrs Barbara Huntington of Fallston, Md; Mrs Elizabeth Johnsen of Ramsey, N.J. and Mrs. Lucille Ionno of West New York,N.J; 16 grandchildren; a sister Mrs.Stanley Langille of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, and a brother Howard S. Burgoyne of Sherman Oaks, Calif; several nieces and nephews. Burial at Shoreham Village Cemetery in Shoreham, Vermont.

Her husband Edgar, and one sister are dead. The body is at the W.C. Hiltz Funeral Home, Kentville. Interment will be in Aaldersville Cemetery.

Burgoyne, Mabel - 68, native of Kentville and widow of Benjamin G. Burgoyne, passed away at a nursing home in Bridgewater today (May 1,1949) following a long illness. Mrs. Burgoyne who was a resident of this town for many years was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Ephriam R Hiltz, Kentville. Her husband died 18 months ago. Surviving are one son Edgar and one brother Cecil Hiltz DAR locomotive engineer, Kentville. Five other brothers. Fred, William, and Edgar, Kentville. Clinton and Harry, Kingsport, and a sister Gertrude Hiltz, deceased. Services will be held from St James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. Interment will be at Mahone Bay.

Burgoyne, Mary Ann - 87, There passed away at her home on June 6 (1920) Mary Ann, wife of the late Benjamin Burgoyne. Mrs. Burgoyne, who was a daughter of the late Peter Aalders, a veteran of Waterloo, was born at Aaldersville in 1833. She married Benjamin Burgoyne in 1851. Eleven children were born to them. Seven are still living, six daughters and one son. Aaldersville named after her father, has much to thank the family of the deceased dear old couple for, the erection of the beautiful chapel of St. James in which the funeral service was held. The final resting place received her remains at Charring Cross Cemetery.

Born in Port Williams, she was a daughter of Mrs. Mildred (Lockwood) Laing and the late John Laing. She was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and the CWL. She is survived by a brother, Alfred, Woodville. She was predeceased by her husband Earl. The body is in W.C. Hiltz Funeral Home in Kentville. Funeral service at St. Joseph's, burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville.

Burgoyne, Wellesley - 56, The death occurred at Aaldersville, Lunenburg County, on Monday January 20th, (1908) of Wellesley, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs B. Burgoyne, at the age of 55 years. The deceased had been a great sufferer from paralysis during the past year and finally succumbed to this disease on the above date. He leaves, besides a wife and three children, an aged father and mother, seven sisters and three brothers to mourn their loss. This is the only time the family circle has been broken in four generations living.

Middleton, July 23 - Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Archie Colquhoun, Middleton, who died July 21 1951 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Morris Mitchell, in Erie Pa. Born Myrtle Burgoyne, at Windsor in 1897, the late Mrs. Colquhoun had for several years been a member of the staff of the Middleton post office. Failing health this spring caused her to resign her position and seek medical treatment in the U.S. She is survived by her husband, a son, David, with the Canadian Army at Halifax; and three daughters, Mrs. Morris Mitchell (Norma) and Mrs. B.A. LaBrosse (Anna) of Erie Pa. and Mrs. J. Leitheim (Mary) of Detroit. Mrs. Stanley Langille, Martin's River, is a sister; while 2 brothers, Howard and Ernest, reside in New York. Funeral services, Holy Trinity Church. Interment in Holy Trinity Churchyard.

Hatchard, Mrs. George - Kentville- Mrs. George Hatchard, 89, died April 18, (1966) at the home of her nephew, P. Clifton Burgoyne, Aaldersville, after a seven week illness. Born in Aaldersville, where she lived all her life, (Emily Edith) was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Ann (Aalders) Burgoyne. Her husband George is dead. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Aaldersville, and the Aaldersville Community Club. Funeral service was held at St. James Church, Aaldersville, at 2 o'clock Thursday. Rev. Richard Mowry officiated and interment was in the family lot, Aaldersville Cemetery.

Mahone Bay - Mrs. Edith Muriel Groser Hayford of Mahone Bay died Tuesday, Jan 1, 1980 in the Mahone Bay Nursing Home. Born in Mahone Bay she was the daughter of the late Charles and Esther (Burgoyne) Young. She was a member of St. James Parish, Mahone Bay and St. James Anglican Church Women. She was a retired schoolteacher. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Albert Hayford DDS; two brothers, Linwood and Frank. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Mahone Bay.
Hillman, Adelaide
Windsor, Aug 3,1948 - The death occured this afternoon at the Masonic Home after a lengthy illness of Adelaide Hillman, widow of George Thomas Hillman, Halifax. Mrs. Hillman was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Ann Burgoyne, and was born at Aaldersville, Lunenburg County, Aug 8,1857 and would have been 91 on Sunday. Her husband predeceased her some years ago and she has been a guest at the Home since January 1945. She is survived by one daughter Lillian, Mrs. C.T. Munro, Windsor, a brother Edgar Burgoyne, a sister Emily at Aaldersville and a sister Eva, Mrs. Uriah Whalen at Canaan, Kings County. The funeral will be held from the Masonic Home 2 o'clock Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery, Rev.C.G. Hares officiating.
Hiltz, Agnes Gertrude
There passed away on Friday (June 29,1923) Agnes Gertrude, daughter of Mrs. Agnes Hiltz, Kingsport. The life of Gertrude Hiltz, who for several years has been an invalid, is an example of the comfort which alone comes from loving trust in the Saviour, hers was the life of a true soldier of Jesus Christ and the countryside mourns their loss. A sorrowing and devoted mother, one sister, Mabel, wife of Benjamin George Burgoyne, Mahone Bay, and five brothers, Frederick, William, Edgar, Cecil, Harry, survive. The funeral, which took place from St Thomas' Church was a very large and representative one. The service was conducted by Rev Gordon C. Brown. The pallbearers were four brothers, William, Edgar, Cecil, and Harry Hiltz. Interment was at Habitant.
Hiltz, Cecil Butler
Hiltz, Cecil Butler - 59, D.A.R. locomotive engineer, and past president of Kings County Boy Scouts Association, died at his home at Kentville suddenly Thursday morning, May 22,1952, of a heart attack. Mr. Hiltz was in the DAR yards preparing for his regular run on the fast freight to Halifax, when he suffered a seizure. He was taken to his home where he died several hours later. He was the last remaining member of a family of one daughter and six sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Hiltz, formerly of Kentville, and later of Kingsport. He had 34 years service on the DAR and was planning on taking his retirement at the age of 60. He was widely known throughout the county for his work in the Boy Scouts Association. He was a member of Hiawatha Lodge, I.O.O.F., former Warden of St. James Anglican Church, and an officer of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Enginemen. Two of his brothers who predeceased him were also DAR engineers. The other brothers were Clifford, Fred, former newspaper printer and Col. Harry Hiltz, Kingsport; the sister, was Mrs. (Mabel) Burgoyne, Mahone Bay. Surviving are his wife, the former Gwendolyn G. Brown, Hantsport; one daughter, Marjorie (Mrs. Starr Williams), Kentville, and two grandchildren. Two sons, Sergeant Air Gunner Mack Hiltz, and Flying Officer Robert Hiltz, were both killed overseas while serving with the R.C.A.F. in the last war. Funeral services were conducted by the rector, Rev L. Weldon Mosher, from St. James Church Kentville, Saturday afternoon with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville.
Hiltz, Edgar Wellesley
Kentville, Oct 29 1947 - Edgar W. Hiltz, 63, retired DAR locomotive engineer died at his home here today. He was the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Hiltz, Kentville to die in the last seven months.
His brother, William, of Kentville also a retired locomotive engineer, passed away in March, and his younger brother, Colonel Harry Hiltz, died in April. Mr. Hiltz who joined the service of the Dominion Atlantic at the age of 16, was retired six years ago, because of a heart condition. He had then completed 41 years service, 30 as an engineer and eight as a fireman. While born in Kentville, the family moved to Kingsport when Mr. Hiltz was quite young and it was there he joined the railway as an engine wiper. Eleven years later he was an engineer. During his railway career he resided in various towns, in Middleton, Annapolis Royal, Yarmouth and Kingsport. He retired with an unblemished record. A good substantial citizen, Mr. Hiltz had many friends, not only here but all over the DAR system and his death will be learned of with sincere regret. He was a member of St James Anglican Church and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. His wife was the former Miss Grace Roy, Montreal.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Clifton, Toronto; Donald, Kentville; Kenneth, Port Williams; and three daughters, Mrs. Arthur McKiel, Kentville; Mrs. Eustace Rand, Port Williams; Mrs. William Vance, B.C. one brother Cecil Hiltz, locomotive engineer, Kentville, and one sister, Mrs. Benjamin Burgoyne of Mahone Bay. In addition to William and Harry two other brothers, Frederick and Clifton and one sister,Gertrude, predeceased him. Interment will be in Oaks Cemetery.

Hiltz, Ephraim - Kingsport, Sept 30 (1922). There passed away at his residence here on Saturday morning Ephraim Hiltz, a well-known and highly respected citizen. Mr. Hiltz, who had been in failing health for some time, married Miss Agnes Burgoyne, Aaldersville, Lunenburg Co. Those left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father, are the widow, five sons, Frederick, Proprietor Strand theatre, Kentville; William, Cecil, Edgar, of the DAR Harry, residing at home, and two daughters. Mrs Benjamin Burgoyne, Mahone Bay, and Miss Gertrude, at home. One son Clifton, was killed while on overseas service in France. The funeral from St. Thomas' Church, Kingsport, takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Frederick Harold Hiltz - 57, died suddenly Monday April 23, 1956 at his residence, 872 Barrington Street.
A veteran of the First World War, Mr. Hiltz was an employee of the Department of National Defense.
He is survived by his wife Edna; two step-sons, two sons, and also a son and a daughter by a previous marriage; three brothers, Ben, Wolfville; Ralph, California; Clifton, Edmonton; three sisters, Ora, Mrs. W.R. Dill Halifax; Ruth, Mrs. Willard Duncan Windsor and Charlotte, Mrs. Earl Irving, Florida. Funeral service will be held from the Halifax Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Hiltz, Mrs. Ephraim
The death of Mrs. Agnes Hiltz, 84, widow of the late Ephraim Hiltz, occurred Friday, Oct 16,1936, at her home in Kingsport. She was born in Aaldersville, Lunenburg County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Burgoyne. She is survived by five sons, Frederick, William, Edgar, and Cecil, Kentville, and Harry, of Kingsport; also five sisters, Mrs. H. Kaulback, Conquerall Mills; Mrs. G.T. Hillman, Bridgewater; Mrs. N. Whalen, Canaan, and one brother, Edgar Burgoyne, aldersville. A daughter Gertrude died several years ago and one son, Clifton, gave his life during the world war. The funeral service, held from St Thomas' Anglican Church, was conducted by the rector, Rev R. Fowlow, assisted by Rev G.R.Thompson, rector of St. James, Kentville. The four sons acted as pallbearers and interment was at Habitant Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Hiltz - 70, widow of William Hiltz, passed away March 8, 1948. Her husband, who was a well-known locomotive engineer, died suddenly last year. Mrs. Hiltz, born in Windsor, daughter of the late John and Margaret Redmond, since her marriage had resided in Kentville with the exception
of a few years in Kingsport. Surviving are two sons, Stuart and Victor; one sister, Mrs. Charles E. Tobin, Medford, Mass; and one brother, John W. Redmond, Kentville. Funeral services conducted by Rev J. R. Davies, St. James Anglican Church, interment was at Oaks Cemetery.

Martin's River - Edith Mildred Langille, 85, died Wednesday, April 30,1975 in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Walter Burgoyne and Rose Hiltz. Surviving is one daughter, Iva (Mrs. Clyde Hiltz), Martin's River; four sons, Stewart, Martin's River; Douglas, Lunenburg; Russell, Milford; Bruce, Halifax; one brother Howard, California; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; a son, a sister and a brother. The body is in the Mahone Bay Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery, Martin's River.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd and Bruce. The body is in the Mahone Bay Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martin's River.

There passed away on Saturday Nov. 17th 1934 at her home in Aaldersville, Mrs. Emmeline Russell, 92, wife of the late Thomas Russell. She was the eldest resident of that place, had been in very good health and in full command of her faculties until five days before her death, when she was stricken with a stroke of paralysis and never regained consciousness. Deceased was a member of the Episcopal Church and attended regularly until recent years. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom survive, George, New Ross Road; Mary (Mrs. Joseph Boylan) Kentville; Maude, (Mrs. Norman Fredericks) South Waterville; and Oscar, Scotch Village; also 52 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was laid to rest at New Ross, besides her husband who predeceased her 21 years ago.

Born in Aaldersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Serena (Bezanson) Aalders. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for the late Mrs. Veinott was held on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. from St James Anglican Church, Aaldersville. Rev C.J. Pretty officiated with interment in the Aaldersville Cemetery. The late Mrs. Veinott rested at the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, Kentville.

There passed away Thursday April 14, (1938), Charles Milledge Young of Mahone Bay at the age of 77 years. The deceased had been in failing health for the last 4 or 5 years. He is survived by his wife who before her marriage was Esther Burgoyne of Aaldersville; three children Frank of Halifax, Edith, Mrs. A.C. Hayford at home, and Lynwood of Pontiac, Michigan; also three sisters, Mrs. Zenna Rafuse and Mrs. Stephen Corkum, both of Conquerall Bank, and Mrs.J.N.Rafuse of Bridgewater. Funeral service was held in the Anglican Church, interment in Park Cemetery.
Young, Frank Conyers
Frank Conyers Young, a longshoreman and a native of Mahone Bay, died Saturday morning Feb 10,1940, at the Victoria General Hospital after a short illness. He has lived in Halifax for a number of years and was well known. His age was 53. Surviving are his wife, three sons, Scott, Harry and Gordon, three daughters, Muriel, Pearl, Gwendolyn, and two grandchildren who have made their home with their grandparents since the tragic death of their mother, Mrs. Frances Young Roche, in a fire at her home. Mr. Young also leaves his mother, Mrs. Millidge Young, Mahone Bay, a sister, Mrs. A.C. Hayford, Mahone Bay, and a brother, Linwood of Pontiac, Michigan. Funeral service will be at North Street Christian church. Interment will be in Camp Hill Cemetery.
