Obituaries - March 1999 Monday, March 1, 1999 The Halifax Herald Limited KEDDY, Frank Edward KEDDY, Frank Edward - (1911-1999) Frank Edward Keddy, who turned 88 on January 11th, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the VG Site, QEII, on Saturday, February 27, 1999. Frank was born in Martins River, Lunenburg Co., in 1911. He was the fifth child of the late Joseph Edward and Nora Emila (Reeves) Keddy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers, Howard Austin (Liverpool), Roy Willoughby (Liverpool), Emmett Robert (New Ross), Marshall (Martins River), and sisters, Eva Etta Belle Faeder (Chester) and Winnifred Eveline Tingley (Halifax). He was also predeceased by his first wife, the former Vida May Armstrong (Kentville) and his second wife, the former Mary Ellen MacLean (Sydney Mines). Frank is survived by sons, Maurice Edward, Toronto; Douglas Roy, Toronto, and Bryan Francis, Halifax; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Frank was a strong, hard working and kind man who loved to sing and play his accordion. He was a carpenter by trade and in his spare time liked to carve wooden ships and folk art. He was very fond of animals, especially cats and dogs. He had been ill for a number of years, suffering from Alzheimers, and was cared for by his son, Bryan and daughter-in-law Anita. One of his favorite expressions was "May God bless and keep you all the days of your life", and we pray the same for him in his after life. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Camp Hill Cemetery in Halifax, where his ashes will be buried beside his wife, Mary Ellen. He was an avid walker and could be seen on a daily basis walking throughout his community and along highway 103, rain or shine. He was an excellent father to his children. Born November 7, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Eva (Eisnor) Hiltz. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She had taught in numerous schools throughout Lunenburg County, retiring from the Mahone Bay School in 1965 after 18 years of service. She was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. He graduated from Sydney Academy, Acadia University and Nova Scotia Technical College (1938). During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada and Europe from 1939 to 1946. He worked in Montreal and Amherst prior to settling in Goderich with Sifto Salt Co. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Pue-Gilchrist; daughters, Patricia (Graham) Baker, Toronto; Barbara (Frank) Carere, Waterloo, Ont.; son, Robert (Hilary), Toronto; several grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Born in Queensland, he was the son of the late Leslie and Susan (Whynott) Snair. After serving in the Armed Forces and serving overseas, he was employed by the Department of Highways and he also drove a school van for a few years. Most of his life, he was self-employed as owner and operator of a canteen, tent and trailer park and barber shop at Clevelands Beach. He was a devoted family man to his wife and children. He was a devoted member of the St. Margarets Masonic Lodge for many years and held several offices, including master, district grand chaplain and chaplain emeritus. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Madge Manuel", Windsor Elms; son, Raymond and wife Bonnie, Windsor; daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Pat Deegan), Halifax, and Susan (Mrs. Duncan MacDonald), Chester; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. CHISHOLM (Johnston), Marjorie E. - 81, Chester. Marge passed peacefully away while in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, on March 12, 1999. She was the daughter of William and Ellen (Smith) Johnston. She married and enchanted Colin Dudley, who predeceased her in 1977. She was also predeceased by her parents and her only brother, Kenneth. Marge is survived by her only son, Christopher; her sisters-in-law, Frances (DeWolf) Johnston and Elizabeth (Davidson) Chisholm; many nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family of friends. Marge is remembered most for being the epitomy of love, caring and selflessness. She was the consummate housewife, hostess, mother and friend. All who knew her will deeply miss her and maintain her memory with love and respect. Born in Berwick, she was the second of five children born to Iras and Mary (Thomson) Avery. After completing her education, she joined the RCAF, serving in Canada and France. Upon her return to Canada, she married and had two children. Later, she was employed with the Government of Alberta in Calgary for eight years, as well as the Government of Nova Scotia in Halifax before retiring to Lunenburg. Mary was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Auxiliary Branch 23, Lunenburg and a member of the Bluenose Senior Citizens, Lunenburg. Mary lived life to the fullest and had many good friends, including Mamie Young, Bayswater, who was her special friend and confidante. She is survived by a son, Brian and wife Debbie, Montreal; and daughter, Cindy and husband Brian Burke, Bridgewater; brothers, Bob and wife Lil, Calgary; Alta.; and Bill and wife Linda, Halifax; a sister, Faye and husband Ernie, New Minas and five grandchildren.
