Tuesday, March 3, 1998 ACKMAN, Anne Rosella ACKMAN, Anne Rosella - 81, formerly of Kentville, passed peacefully away at Hebbs Cross, Lunenburg Co., on March 1, 1998. Born July 24, 1916, in West Dublin, she was a daughter of the late Eldred Reuben and Amy Elizabeth (Mosher) Bushen. She was a well-loved and respected resident of Kentville for over 58 years. She was well known as an accomplished seamstress and taught adult sewing classes in the Kentville area for many years in the 1960s. Anne began working at Singer Sewing Co. store in Kentville, worked with Muttart's Dry Goods Department until they closed and then went with Sanisteam Dry Cleaners outlet in Kentville, where she was employed for over 20 years, retiring two years ago. In 1940, she became a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville; was a former member and past president of St. James Altar Guild and took an active part in the church, having been a member of the choir for many years. Anne was a member of Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years and had been a past noble grand. She received her 50-year jewel while a sister with the former Horton Rebekah Lodge 111, Wolfville. She was originally a member of Emerald Rebekah Lodge 66, West Dublin. Anne was a great humanitarian, she loved life and gardening, both of which were a great source of pride for her. She is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter, Brenda Korejwo, Ottawa, Ont.; sons, Robert and wife Nicole, Edmonton, Alta.; David and wife Susan, Hebbs Cross, with whom she resided; brothers, Lee Bushen, Sydney; Norbert Bushen, West Dublin; sister-in-law, Mrs. Lena Redfearn, Kentville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and a nephew. Born in Halifax, September 1, 1923, Dick lived in Dartmouth until he enlisted as a merchant seaman, employed by Imperial Oil, in 1941. In 1952, he started his career with Dominion Sound which took him to Ottawa in 1965. In 1978, Dick moved to Calgary, where he worked in the construction industry. He retired to Dartmouth in 1991. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence in 1977. He was born October 19, 1918, in Lunenburg and was raised in Eastern Points and Lunenburg. He was a member of West Nova Scotia Reserve Regiment when war broke out in September 1939. He spent from December 1939 until June 1946 overseas, serving in Sicily, Italy, Holland, Germany and the army of occupation. During this time he was awarded the MBE. After retiring from the Army with the rank of major in 1949, he entered the real estate field. In 1957, he earned his FRI and during his 30 years in the real estate industry, he served as president of the Halifax Dartmouth Real Estate Board and was involved in the establishment of the MLS listing service, as well as being very dedicated to furthering education and high standards in real estate and property appraisal. After retirement, he became very involved with the Laryngectomee Society of Nova Scotia as a volunteer visitor. He was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg; West Nova Scotia Regiment Association; West Nova Scotia Regiment Memory Club; Victoria Lodge of Perfection, Unity Lodge 4. John-David was a true sports fan, especially of the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays and WWF wrestling. He loved animals and will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick wit.
