He came to Nova Scotia in 1884 with the Commercial Cable Company, to establish the station at Hazel Hill. When he retired in 1924 he was superintendent of that station. After retiring he made his home for some time in Halifax and later spent six years in Bridgewater. He spent the summer seasons at Petite Riviere. On Tuesday Mr. Burstall was seized with a heart attack from which he did not rally. A man of kindly and generous disposition and character he had a host of friends who will sincerely, regret his passing. Surviving are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. J. C. Speer, Canal Zone; Mrs. Harold Hobbs, Hazel Hill; Mrs. L. V. Baukham, Westfield, N. J., and Mrs. Rita Michel, Halifax, and two sons, Frank of Imperoyal, Dartmouth, and Ernest, R.C.S.C., Halifax. Burton took place at Petite Riviere on Thursday last, March 5, 1925, and the funeral was conducted on Saturday by Revs Adams and Neish. The deceased who was 76 years old, had been a resident of the place for almost all of his life and was one of its most respected citizens, always having been identified with anything that would make for its advancement. For over thirty years he had conducted a good business at LaHave Islands, although always a resident of Petite Riviere, and his relations with the people of LaHave Islands had always been most happy and cordial. He was intensely musical and during the earlier years of his life had been one of most valued members of the local Band and for a time its leader. He leaves a widow, one daughter Mrs. James Ryan of Petite Riviere and an only son George H., who resides at home. BURTON, GEORGE H. - JUL., 1928 Death came suddenly to Geo. H. Burton early on Friday evening as he was sitting with his family; he was taken with a severe haemorrhage and before doctors or friends could be summoned had passed away. For the past few months he had been troubled with severe attacks of asthma but had not been forced to give up his business except at intervals and no one thought of his illness as serious. The funeral was held from his late residence and St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Mr. White, assisted by Rev. Mr. Parker and was quite possibly the largest that has been seen here for a long time. The deceased who was not forty years old, had been conducting a garage for a number of years and lately had been mail courier on the new mail route between here and the Station. He was of a winning disposition, obliging and anxious to please and as a consequence had made friends by the hundred all over the locality who heard of his death with deepest regret and assembled Sunday afternoon to pay their last respects to him. The floral offerings were beautiful and from so many quarters that the room seemed really a bower of them for him to rest in. He was a valued member of Court Mayflower, C.O.F. and one of the Euphonium players in the Band, of which he had been a member for years, taking the deepest interest in its work. He is survived by his wife and young son Donald, his aged mother and a sister Mrs. James Ryan, and the deepest sympathy of the neighbourhood goes out to them in their terrible bereavement. CROUSE, WILFRED ROGERS Crousetown, N.S. -1958- The community of Crousetown, as well as surrounding vicinity and indeed many parts of the province, received with deep regret the very sad news of the tragic death of Wilfred Crouse, Jr., one of our most popular and much loved young men, which occurred near Shelburne about noon on Friday, March l4th. Having been born at Crousetown, June l6th 1932 the late Mr Crouse was the only son of Councillor and Mrs. Wilfred Crouse, well-known and highly respected family of this community and throughout many provincial points. His mother, the former Marguerite Walsh, of Sable River, is an accomplished musician and has sung many times over radio station CKBW. His father, Wilfred Crouse Sr., is a member of the Council for the Municipality of Lunenburg. Possessing highest qualities of sterling Christian character and friendly disposition, the deceased endeared himself to all who knew him. After receiving his elementary education at Crousetown school, he became a student at Liverpool Academy where he received his High School education and where his close affiliations with school life made him most popular. Endowed with good musical talents, he was a valued member of the Liverpool Cadet Band during his years spent in that town. After completing high school the late Mr. Crouse entered Dalhousie University where he studied during four years. He then entered Acadia University where he specialized in the study of Geology. During his years spent in University life he was very popular with the student bodies and was a member of the fraternity, Zeta Psi. After graduating from college the late Mr. Crouse was employed for one year with the Mersey Paper Company. For one summer he was affiliated with a Geology Survey Corps headed by Professor Douglas, of Dalhousie University which time he spent in New Brunswick. For two summers he was associated with McPhar Geophysics Ltd. Following the college term of 1956, he went to work with Quemont Mines Ltd., Noranda, Quebec. While there he was an officer cadet in the Reserve Army and took an active part in its activities. He returned home in February, 1958, to work as travelling salesman for George Hansen, of New Minas, Kings Co. The late Mr. Crouse was a member of the Crousetown United Church. Early in February 1956 he married Janet Ida Sutherland, R.N., of Halifax, formerly of Port Mouton, Queens County; by whom he is survived. Others left to mourn the loss of a loved one are a seven-month old daughter, Mary Kathryn; his sorrowing parents; a sister Dawn, and his loving grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Crouse, of Crousetown. It can also be sincerely said that a large circle of friends both of his native community and elsewhere have been cast into profound mourning at the sad and shocking news of his early and tragic passing. Funeral services for the late Mr. Crouse were held from Wesley United Church, Petite Riviere, N.S., on Wednesday afternoon, March l9th, and was without a doubt the largest funeral ever witnessed in this area, approximately one thousand people having attended from all parts of the province. Officiating at the service was the pastor of the church, Rev. Robert MacKay, who most ably delivered one of the most comforting and appropriate funeral orations ever heard here: The choir was composed of members of the choirs of the United Churches of Petite Riviere, Crousetown, and LaHave. Favourite hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Breathe on Me Breath of God." Mr L. H. Hall, well known tenor singer of Bridgewater, sang very beautifully and effectively the selection by special request, "In the Garden." The organist was Harold E. Eikle, of Crousetown. Pall bearers were fraternity brothers of Zeta Psi and included John E. Begin, William B. White, George Young, Jerry Nickerson, Ian F. Rae and Peter W. Evans.
