He was a veteran of the Second World War and was employed with CNR for 27 years, retiring in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Sandra Croft; son, Douglas, Brampton, Ont.; daughters, Karen (Mrs. William Reford), Gilford, Ont.; Carla (Mrs. Michel Robichaud), Guelph, Ont.; six grandchildren; sister, Dora Hirtle, Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. He was a silver medalist in the 1969 Canadian Summer Games and a two time harbour champion in rowing. He was a member of the Kiwanis Golden K Club and a member of South End Baptist Church. He recently helped organize the South Shore Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada. He was a member of the Milton Historical Society, past director of the Milton Community Association and past member of the Milton Canoe and Camera Club. An electrician by trade, he was employed with Scott Paper Co. for more than 40 years until the closure of its Sheet Harbour operation in 1972.
