Berwick Woman Enjoys Good Health At 104
It is not given to many persons to live beyond the century mark, but Mrs. Annie Collins, widow of the late George Collins of Berwick, celebrated her 104th birthday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Robert Crawford on Friday, November 4th. Mrs. Collins is in remarkably good health and is well preserved in body for one so aged. Ten years ago she suffered an attack of pneumonia but since then has not had a day’s illness. She remarked when interviewed by a representative of The Register that she "ate well, slept well and was always ready to get up in the morning." When congratulated upon her great age she quaintly said, "I didn’t think anyone could live that long."
Mrs. Collins was born at Forest Glade, Annapolis County, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Phinney. She was married to George Collins of Berwick, a prominent citizen and class leader in the old Methodist church. Mr. Collins passed away o May 18th, 1892. There were seven children of the union and all are living with the exception of one son, Bardine. The daughters are Mrs. Colin McLean, Margaretsville, Mrs. Olivia Quigley, Florida, Mrs. Robert Crawford, Berwick and Mrs. William Carter, Victoria, B. C. The sons are Charles of White Plains, N.Y. and George of California. There are also twenty-two grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Collins is a member of the Berwick United Church and continues her interest in everything that goes on for the good of the community.
