Obituary

Captain R. W. Stephens

There passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Wheeler, South Berwick, on Saturday, May 24th, Captain Robert William Stephens, at the age of 84 years and 7 months.

Born at Walton, Hants County, he removed in early life to Clarke’s Harbor, Shelburne Co., where he resided until four years ago when failing health compelled him to give up his business and retire to the home of his daughter.

Mr. Stephens had been confined to his wheel chair since first coming to South Berwick, but his mind being keenly active he took a keen interest in all that was going on around him. Although a great sufferer, he was always cheerful and was only confined to his bed one week when death came as a happy release. His wife predeceased him seven years ago.

Mr. Stephens is survived by three sons, Captain Harry, of Quincy, Mass.; Sydney, of Outram, Annapolis Co., and Joseph, of Auburn, and by one daughter, Mrs. Wheeler, who tenderly cared for him during his last illness; also one sister, Mrs. Rebecca MacKinnon, of Plymouth, Mass.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 26th, conducted by the Rev. H. E. Allaby. Internment was in Aylesford cemetery.
