Obituary

The residents of Harborville were deeply saddened on September 2nd, to hear of the sudden death of Esther, beloved wife of Captain Peter Connor. Although Mrs. Connor had been ailing for several months the end was sudden. In the death of Mrs. Connor, Harborville has lost one of its best citizens. She was a woman of estimable character, always ready to assist in aiding the sick and comforting the sorrowful. She was the daughter of the late William Finlay, of Victoria Harbor. Her first husband was Captain Joshua Morris, of Harborville. This union was blessed with four children, of whom two are still living: Mrs. Joseph Cahill, of Aylesford, who cared for her mother during her illness, and Mr. Ernest Morris, of New York. After the death of Captain Morris she became the wife of Captain Peter Connor, also of Harborville. One son, Ingram, was born to them. The funeral took place on Tuesday, 6th. Interment was in the churchyard, nearly opposite the home, where she had lived so long. The funeral was very largely attended, the procession walking to the grave. The service was conducted by the Rev. George Bryant, of Berwick.

Scarcely had the cloud of gloom and sadness arisen from the home of Capt. Peter Connor, when the grief stricken children were called on to part with their dear father. Like Mrs. Connor he had been ailing for some months and the shock of his wife’s sudden death was too great for him to recover from. He kept gradually weakening, until, just fifteen days from the death of his dear wife, he was called to meet her on the other side. Captain Connor was one of the eldest of the residents of Harborville. He came to this place more than sixty-five years ago. He sailed out of this and many foreign ports for a number of years. About thirty years ago he retired from a sea-faring life and has devoted what of life remained to him, to his farm, on which he lived to the time of his death. Captain Connor was also twice married; his first wife being a Mise Knowlton, of Advocate. To them were born five children, of whom all but two have passed away. These are Beriah, of Medford, Mass., and Vinton, of Harborville. After the death of his first wife he married Esther, the widow of Joshua Morris. One child blessed their union, Ingram, who with his half-sister, Mrs. Cahi9ll, cared for him during his last illness. Captain Connor will be much missed in the community. He was a kind husband and father, a good citizen and is mourned by very many friends.
