A tribute
The Register has been asked to publish the following tribute to the late Mrs. W. V. T. Young of Waterville, which appeared in The Maritime Baptist of May 26th:
Mrs. W. V. T. Young
In the death of Mrs. W. V. T. Young of Waterville, Kings County, on March 27th, there passed to an abundant reward one of the sweetest and noblest of women, at the ripe age of seventy-five.
"Aunt Abbie" was the youngest of seven children of the late Sydney and Caroline Shaw of Waterville, all of whom passed on before her. She was married twice, her first husband, John L. West, having died at their home in Kansas, leaving her with a little boy of three years, Claude L., now principal of a large Grammar School in Newark, N. J. Returning to her old home, she later married Mr. W. V. T. Young who survives her. Five children were born to them of whom three survive, Mrs. Allen Young, of Swampscott, Mass., Mrs. Owen Craig of Vulcan, Alberta, and Vaughn of Waterville.
Mrs. Young was a devoted member of the Baptist Church in Waterville from its beginning. The funeral service was held there, conducted by the pastor, Rev. G. R. T. Ayling. "Aunt Abbie" was one of the most beautiful women I have known, beautiful in form and face, and beautiful in spirit. She radiated goodness and good cheer. She gave herself unselfishly and without stint to the many cares of her family and home and made time to be a blessing to a host of others.
She was a lover of flowers, her household plants being the envy of neighbours and friends. She was herself like a beautiful rose that blooms to add to the cheer and joy of life. Her sunny soul, joyous and joy giving, made life sweeter and sunnier for all who met her.
"To pass through life beloved as few are
loved,
To prove the joys of earth as few have proved,
And still to keep the soul’s white robe unstained,
Such is the victory which thou hast gained."
