Project
Work began on this project in 2016 and there are many more names to be added to the index. The index is the work of many volunteers and will cover many years. The database will be updated every so often as more names are added.
The obituaries are from the Merced Sun-Star newspaper and will cover from the 1970s up to about 2005. If you find a name in the database and would like a copy of the obituary, please fill out the Obituary Request Form and follow the instructions. If you do not find the person you are searching for, please fill out the form with as much information as possible and we will try to find an obituary in the microfilm collection.
This project came about when when one of our members, Ila Chastain, turned over all the obituaries that she had clipped from the Sun-Star over many, many years. She also put the information into a database, as did the Merced County Public Library staff and the Merced College Library staff over many years. Several of our members are working on this project and we appreciate all of their hard work.
