Hiram C. Meek Society was organized January 31, 2009. It is sponsored by Sierra Amador Chapter, NSDAR. The name of the society comes from early Amador County pioneer Hiram C. Meek who is purported to be the only Californian to have known George Washington.

The C. A. R. Creed:

I believe in the Children of the American Revolution as an organization for the training of young people in true patriotism and love of country, in order that they shall be better fitted for American citizenship

As a descendent of the Founders of my Country, I believe that my birthright brings a certain responsibility to carry on their work, and that as the boys and girls of 1776 took an active part in the War for Independence, so the boys and girls of today have a definite work to do for their Country.

As a member of the Children of the American Revolution, I believe it is my duty to use my influence to create a deeper love of country, a loyal respect for our Constitution and a reverence for its Flag, among the young people with whom I come in contact.

History of the Hiram C. Meek Society.

The National Society, Children of the American Revolution has State societies in each state and within the states are individual societies (chapters). In October, 2008, Laura Clark, a member of Sierra Amador Chapter, NSDAR, proposed establishing a N.S.C.A.R. Society in our area for local children who are descendants of patriots. She enlisted the help of others in the Sierra Amador Chapter and sent announcements to the local schools, local radio and in the local papers.

Our first meeting was held in late October, 2008, and ten children and their parents attended. At the next meeting in November, the formal process for organizing a local society was reviewed-- primarily getting enough new members enrolled in C.A.R. to be able to form the new society. With a flurry of activity, applications were completed and submitted. Plans were made for the organizing meeting. Invitations were sent to State C.A.R. officers, State DAR officers and State SAR officers.

In early January enough approved applications allowed the to formal beginning of the society.

January 31, 2009, was the formal organizing meeting for Hiram C. Meek Society. Presiding was Lucas Borncamp, State Society President. State Registrar Marissa Mancebo also attended as did Senior State officers: Linda Stufflebean (Sr. State President), Billie Spence (Sr. State Historian) and Tina Mancebo (Sr. State V.P) With all members and pending members present, the official installation of officers was held, and the new society was formed.
