Michael Broggie
“Railroad Research and Walt Disney”
Grant R. Brimhall Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks
July 9 at 7:00 P.M.

Michael Broggie, award-winning author, historian and lecturer, released his first childrens book, Walt Disneys Happy Place, designed to be shared with adults. Illustrated by veteran Disney artist Carson Van Osten, and featuring duo texts for beginning and mature readers, the book features the life of Walt Disney and illuminates the importance of preserving family history. A recent study revealed many young people dont know Walt Disney was a living person.

Drawing upon his firsthand remembrances of the creator of family entertainment, Michael is considered an expert on the life and career of Walt Disney. He is founding chairman of the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society, and executive director of Walt Disneys Railroad Museum at Griffith Park, sponsored by the Disney Family Foundation. He is founder and president of California Education Foundation, a nonprofit public benefit corporation fostering education reform, and a partner of The Amberton Group, a product development and start-up management advisory company.

His many lecture assignments include numerous Disneyana collector conventions, television and radio interviews, the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, International Design Conference at Aspen and the Disney Institute in Orlando. He has performed as the featured lecturer onboard the Disney Cruise Line. His biography, Walt Disneys Railroad Story, won the Benjamin Franklin Gold Medal for best biography in 1998. He is a native of Los Angeles, holds a bachelors degree in communications and a masters and doctorate in business administration. He and his wife reside in Thousand Oaks.
