• He was the author of Danville Past and Present (1881) which has been reprinted by the Montour County (Pa.) Historical Society. D.H.B. Brower was educated as a medical doctor, and was said to have been a practicing physician in Butler Co., Pa. in 1838. There he entered the newspaper business with the establishment of the Prospect Record. He also served in the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1849 as a representative of Butler County. He moved to Danville (Montour Co.) in 1855. Several of his children followed careers in journalism. His obituary appeared in the Montour American, a paper that he founded, at Danville. In 1864 he established the State Journal at Harrisburg; in 1876 the Record, at Danville, and later the News, at the same place. He was elected a member of the State Legislature in 1850 and served two terms.¹
