William Brewer1

  • "I understand that at one time he lived near Koshocton, Ohio."2
  • Other then being mentioned in the diary of James A. Brewer, nothing has been discovered to confirm the existence of William Brewer. As Mathew Brower's claimed son, Jacob Brewer, was not mentioned by James A. Brewer, and as Jacob Brewer lived in Coshocton County, Ohio at the time of his death, which is the same location that James A. Brewer stated that William Brewer lived "near," it is possible that James A. Brewer simply did not recall correctly the name of Jacob Brewer and incorrectly stated his name as, William.

Content of the interview was related to Chris Chester, by Paul Brewer via e-mail dated 20 Dec 2008. "I talked with a Mrs. Lorna (Estey) Estey, whose mother was a good friend of Bessie Brewer Stewart. She confirmed what we suspected. When Ensley Brewer's wife left him, Bessie was raised by the Stewart family. She married Daniel Estey and had a large family. They lived on the Banks Road in Durham, and later at Taymouth. She gave me the names of the children and I will follow up on that. One daughter is living in Marysville. She also told me that it was her great-grandfather, Arthur O'Neill that ran off with Ensley's wife. She said that it was something that was never talked about. Apparently when they got to Maine she left Arthur and he came home "with his tail between his legs." He lived separately in another house for a while but eventually moved back home. Lorna was not sure if her name was Alice Pond or Alice Whitlock."
