Brewer Families of New England - Progenitors
Quick links to the progenitors of the various Brewer families found in Colonial New England.
  • Daniel Brewer Born ca. 1600, he came from England in 1632 aboard the Lyon and settled at Roxbury, Massachusetts where he died in 1646. A number of his descendants were in the clergy and he is an ancestor of Franklin Pierce, 14th President of the U.S. Daniel's great-great-grandson, Solomon Brewer was at Greenburgh, Westchester Co., N.Y. by 1790 and is buried in the Old Dutch Churchyard at Sleepy Hollow. His descendants have to be considered when searching for early 19th century Brewers who moved across New York State and into the midwest.
  • John Brewer Born 1621 in Cambridge, England, he was at Sudbury, Massachusetts by 1642. His descendants are the Brewers found in Sudbury and Southborough, Mass. Later lines went to Vermont and Wisconsin. This John Brewer is the Brewer ancestor of President Calvin Coolidge.
  • Thomas Brewer "Oulde Goodman Brewer," died in 1690, probably at least 80 years old. He was at Ipswich, and Roxbury, Massachusetts, and finally Hampton, New Hampshire. Brewer descendants are through his son, John Brewer of Ipswich who married Mary Whitmore.
  • Crispus Brewer He was at Boston and Lynn, Massachusetts where he died in 1706/7. If any Brewer descendants exist they would descend through his grandson John Brewer born in 1700.
  • Thomas Brewer He lived at Glastonbury, Connecticut and married Sarah Keeney. Although he did not leave many descendants, and many went to Maine, one line did come to Cortland County, New York in the early 1800's.
  • Peter Brewer A planter at Haverhill, Mass., he married Elizabeth Linfurth and they had 14 children born at Haverhill, but only 3, all daughters, reached adulthood. Peter died in 1708. No male descendants with the BREWER surname.
