Believed to be the brother of James Breakey who settled in Sullivan County, NY.  (Mrs. Arnold Stewart Breakey, [whose family allegedly has a shoe buckle belonging to Isaiah Breakey,] to author, 29 January, 1979).

John Breakey’s descendants include: son, James Breakey, founder and headmaster of Ballinasloe Academy in 1853, and three generations of ministers: Rev. John James Carlyle Breakey, Presbyterian minister for 41 years; Rev. James Carlyle Breakey, Presbyterian minister  & Rev. Philip James Carlyle Breakey who once served Kells and Irvy Presbyterian Churches. William Breakey, brother to John in the previous entry, is the second Breakey of the ‘Balladian  lineage’ for whom we have records.  He married Martha Mitchell of Monaghan (Extant lineage charts).  Sarah Breakey, a daughter, was baptized on 30 Sept. 1814 (see Known Records of Births & Baptisms………Presbyterian Congregation, Ballybay.)  Internet family search ancestral files indicate that Sarah Breakey Harper (baptized 31 Aug 1814) married Samuel Knox 22 April 1846. Breakey.  Further, Peadar Murnane of Ballybay, Ireland, reported that these Breakeys (in reference to the above named James of Carnaveagh) moved up from Balladian or Drumskelt to found the mills at Lisnagalliagh –adjacent townland to Carnaveagh.”  (Murnane to author, 14 Sep 1985).  However, research shows Lisnagalliagh is not adjacent to Carnaveagh, but to Cormeen, within the parish of Aghnamullen.  See Ordnance Survey Map XXIII.

Born 11 Apr 1860 to Isaiah Breakey & Ann Jane Wilson: baptized 15 Oct 1860.  (First Presbyterian Congregation of Ballybay). Lineage of Marilyn J. Breakey: Recently found family notes indicate stepsiblings to my great grandfather Samuel Breakey born in Lismagonway on 15 July 1851. No account exists of Mary’s birth on 15 July 1853, or his mother’s [Mary Lockhart] death].   One would suspect in light of a new maternal name occurring in the baptismal records, that perhaps wife Mary and child Mary died sometime between Sep 1853 & Apr. 1860.
