Transcriber's Notes: * The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder or comments about the look of the transcribed section.

? The use of a ? indicates a word or letter(s) that could not be read, due to quality of the original document.

Notes on Affidavit of Master Notes: * The first asterisk is included in the text and references the following: State whether Master, First or Second Officer  * At the second asterisk, the following has been crossed out "of said vessel sailing therewith, or the surgeon".  * At the third and fourth asterisks, an 's' has been crossed out.  * In the signature of the Immigration Officer, the second initial ('d') is written in lower case. Notes on Affidavit of Surgeon Notes: * The first asterisk indicates an 's' has been crossed out after 'List'.  * The second asterisk indicates 's (not filled in) in number, are' has been crossed out. * The third asterisk is included in the text and refers to one that is unreadable, presumably in the first sentence.* The letter in question following the Surgeon's name appears to be a superscripted 'B' or possibly an 'S'.* Affidavit is not signed by the Immigration Officer. * Written in large script over this Affadavit are:a circled '2' (over 'employed by owners thereof') and 'S. S. Trinidad, March 30,'04, Quebec Line' * There are two faint signatures below (on the right), Elias Church and Browne T. Sp?????

Additional notes on this cover page: * Below the Affidavit of Surgeon are two summary charts. The first, mostly unreadable, appears to summarize members of the 1st and 2nd Cabin into 8 categories. It looks somethinglike this:

(Titles of columns across are unreadable except the 6th col of numbers: "Aliens subject to the Tax" and the beginning of the 7th: "Total. . . ")

1. Cabin 114 12 126 13 134 7

2. Cabin 4 4 3 7

The second chart appears to be titled "PEOCAPITULATION,but is probably "RECAPITULATION",

1st Cabin 25 114 135

2nd Cabin 3 4 7

Steerage

* There is also a "List of Races or Peoples" typed down one side (evidently copied from the back of the manifest.) This list has not been transcribed here. There is also a stamp "INDEXED" signed by Ursen.

Notes on Title and other Manifest Notes: * 'Arriving at Port of' contains only a date. * The numbers '2432' are written in the top right corner, near the arrival date,* The page is stamped with the number 60, possibly a page number.

* The asterisk after Race or People refers to the following note at the bottom of the page: "Race or People" is to be determined by the stock from which they sprang and the language they speak. List of races will be found on the back of this sheet.

* All three pages have a letter written at the upper left corner that appear to be the initial of the person who signed the "INDEXED" stamp.

Notes listed on first page of list, passengers 1 - 27:* At the bottom of the page with these passengers is a notation that looks like the following (commas indicate new lines of text): "25a, 12 can, 7, 114 citizens on, customs manifest" Presumably this refers to this page where 25 aliens are listed (not crossed out), 12 of whom are Canadian. A later page lists an additional 7 names, presumably this means there were another 114 US Citizens aboard this ship who are not listed on a manifest.

Column notes for List C, passengers 28-29:* This is a slightly older version of the form. The "act of Congress" was dated March 3, 1893.On this list, column 8: Nationality includes sub columns for Country and People. As a result, later columns are re-numbered. Column 13 (Col 14 on previous page) asks whether the passenger has "$30 or upward", and Column 19: "Whether an anarchist" is omitted.
