deposition before His Majesty's Council, 14 August 1686

John Searles aged about 18 years maketh oath yt ye said depont being at his masters (ye Rt Honble, ye GoverE's) house he heard a noise & hubbub about the bridge in St Georges in ye Somer Islands & going forth to know ye matter he heard one John Ballinger say (viz) if this be serving ye King let us serve ye King no longer.

John Searles aged about 18 years maketh oath that Willm Righton Junr came into ye Rt Honble GoverE hall with his hatt upon his head without moving ye same, in Compa., as he thinkes, with Stephen Righton; whereupon ye Rt Honble ye GoverE did put off ye said Willm Rightons hatt wth a small stick he had in his hand and further saith not.
