deposition before His Majesty's Council, 10 August 1686

Not long after ye GoverE Coll. Richd Cony Esq came into these Islands at a general muster did goe into my mothers house and sodainly after went into every roome of ye house except ye kitchin & in my mothers chamber found a molatto man cutting tobacco, ye Gover said "Sirrah, lay down ye tobacco and goe along with me", & soe drove him away with him, coming to Capt Keels ye Sheriff desired me to come into ye GoverE & I came; severall discourses past of ye molatto wch I have forgott, but Mr Jennings did tell ye GovernE, yt this molatto was a rogue and if he countenanced him it would be a bad president, ye GoverE said he was as good a subject as any of us, ye said molatto was kept severll weeks, till he came up & staid with his Mistress and further saith not.
