JOSEPH LIGHTBOURN III
will dated 22 January 1790

In the time of God, Amen, I Joseph Lightbourn of Pagetts Parish in the Islands of Bermuda Gentleman, being some what weak and feeble in body but of sound and perfect memory, praised by God, herefor do make and ? This my last will and testament; First and principally I commend my Soul to God, who created it, Relying On the Death and sufferings of Jesus Christ for the Remission of my sins and the attainment of eternal life, my body ? To the Earth to be interred in such a decent and Christian like manner as to my Executrix hereinafter appointed shall seem meet. And as to such worldly Estate as the Almighty hath been pleased to bestow on me I dispose of as follows.

Secondly, I give and devise unto my dearly beloved Wife Frances Lightbourn my Dwelling house, Outhouse and Tract of Land there � unto adjoining, situate in Pagetts Parish aforesaid, for and during the term of her natural life or so long as she shall continue my widow and at her Death or Remarriage whichever shall first happen, I give and devise the same to said among all my children by my said wife, to wit, Mary Wilkinson, Samuel Stiles Lightbourn, Benjamin Lightbourn, Edward Stiles Lightbourn, Francis Lightbourn, Wilkinson Lightbourn, Robert Lightbourn, Frances Lightbourn, Nancy Lightbourn, Stiles Lightbourn, and Copeland Lightbourn and to such child or children as my said Wife now is or hereafter may be pregnant with. To have and to hold the said dwelling House outhouses and lands to the said Mary Wilkinson, Samuel Stiles Lightbourn, Benjamin Lightbourn, Edward Stiles Lightbourn, Francis Lightbourn, Wilkinson Lightbourn,Robert Lightbourn, Frances Lightbourn, Nancy Lightbourn, Stiles Lightbourn, and Copeland Lightbourn and such child or children wherewith my said Wife now is or shall or may be pregnant during my life and to their heirs and assigns forwever, equally to be divided, share and share alike, as ? In common and not as ?, subject ? To the ? Or thirds of my said Wife in case she shall marry again.

Thirdly. After the payment of my just debts and funeral changes which ? And direct may be completed out of my funerals Estate as soon as may be after my decease. ? The ? Due unto my said wife as well for her own maintenance and support, so long as she shall continue widowed, as for the educating and bringing up my five younger children, the said Robert Lightbourn, Frances Lightbourn, Nancy Lightbourn, Stiles Lightbourn, and Copeland Lightbourn, and such child or children as my said Wife now is or at any time during my life may be pregant with, until the males shall respectively attain the ages of Fifteen years and the females be married � And the better to effect these purposes ? Order and direct that my land situate at St. Davids Island in the Parish of Saint George and containing three acres or thereabout, which was purchased by my father of Samuel ?, and on the death of the former descended to me as heir at Law, may be sold by my Executrix for the most it will yield, who Thereby ? To give good and sufficient conveyances or conveyance in the honor herefor, and the monies arrising from the sale to be ? And applied as a part and parcel of my personal estate. Reserving ?? to my said wife in case she should remarry, the one full third part of my said Personal Estate. The Legacies hereafter ?? hereinafter given to my two younger daughters Frances and Nancy first of all being said and satisfied to be at her ? And ?, And what shall be left thereof, either at the death or remarriage of my said Wife, I give equally to and among to my aforesaid children the said Mary Wilkinson, Samuel Stiles Lightbourn, Benjamin Lightbourn, Edward Stiles Lightbourn, Francis Lightbourn, Wilkinson Lightbourn, Robert Lightbourn, Frances Lightbourn, Nancy Lightbourn, Stiles Lightbourn, and Copeland Lightbourn, and to such child or children wherewith my said Wife now is or at any time during my life may be pregnant.

Fourthly, At the death or remarriage of my said Wife, I give unto each of my said DaughtersFrances and Nancy all of my best Dishes and Furniture to be valued and appraised by her or more indifferent Persons to be nominated by them for that purpose and if upon such appraisement there shall appear to by any ? In their value, each of my said two daughters shall pay it to the other � I also give at the death or Remarriage of my wife aforesaid To each of my said two Daughters Frances and Nancy thirty pounds to be paid ? In cash or a Negroe or Negroes to that amount as they shall think proper.

Fifthly, I give and devise unto my sons Joseph Lightbourn, Paul Lightbourn, William Lightbourn and my Grandson Benjamin Tucker Lightbourn, the son and heir of my Son John Lightbourn, deceased, my Southside House and Tract of Land thereunto adjoining situate in Pagetts Parish aforesaid. To have and to hold to them the said Josepth Lightbourn, Paul Lightbourn, William Lightbourn and Benjamin Tucker Lightbourn and to their heirs and ??, as Tenants in Common and not as ?

Sixthly, The reason of my taking no notice of my son James Lightbourn and Daughter Dorothy, the wife of Richard Meares, is not that I am wanting in natural affection, but because they and all my other children by my former marriage have from time to time received their full ? Portions of my Estate.

Lastly, I hereby ? All former and other wills by me at my Time before made and declare this and this only to be my last will and Testament and appoint my loving Wife Frances Lightbourn Executrix hereof ?? recommending her to rely on my sons Joseph Lightbourn and William Lightbourn for advice in the management of my concerns. ? Testimony where of I have ? Set my hand and ? To this my last will contained in five sheets and with my ? ? ? At the top of the first sheet this twenty-second day of January in the of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninty.
