HM Council depositions 1686

Willm. Keel:

deposition before His Majesty's Council, 10 August 1686

The attestation of Willm. Keel who sworne saith that in a short time after ye Rt Honble ye GoverE came to these Islands his Honr at a general muster was at ye house of Widdow Birches and did there require a molatto an to wait upon him which ye said Molatto did accordingly upon his HonE returne againe back to sd depont, invited ye Rt Honble the GovernE & Compa to his house and did there understand by Mr John Jennins & Lieut Michll Burrows yt ye Rt Honble ye GoverE had seized ye sais molatto in behalf of ye Compa whereupon Mr Michll Burrows seemed to be in a great passion & the molatto seemd very stubbern, in so much yt Mr John Jennins stept to ye R Honble ye Gove, and tould him, such heathen rogue as he was, if a course were not take with them, would be our masters, upon wch ye Rt Honble ye GoverE did declare yt he was as good a subject as any body there, there being (as he supposed) about 20 or 30 people as eminent as any in ye Country, & further saith not.
