Will of THOMAS JOELL

State of South Carolina

In the Name of God Amen. I Thomas Joell of St. Thomas’s & St. Dennis’s Parish of the State aforesaid being very sick and weak but of a sound Mind & Memory do make this my last Will & Testament in Manner and Form following, that is to say.

First of all I resign my Soul to it’s Creator hoping that thro’ his Mercy and the Merits of my dea Redeemer to enjoy everlasting Life. My Body I leave to be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned.

Item I give and bequeath to my Sister-in-law Mrs Martha Fogartie Wife of Capt. Stephen Fogartie the Sum of thirty five Pounds Sterling per Annun to be paid her yearly during her natural Life by my Executors hereafter mentioned & my Will is that no Part of the said Annuity be at any Time subject to her said Husband Stephen’s present or future Incumberances.

Item I give & bequeath to my Niece Rebecca Sarah Burch now or lately residing in the Island of Bermuda the Sum of four hundred Pounds Sterling to be freely enjoyed & possessed by her and her Heirs for ever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Niece Miss Susanna Aulboy now or lately residing in the Island of Bermuda the Sum of four hundred Pounds Sterling to be freely possesed and enjoyed by her & her Heirs for ever.

Item I give and bequeath the Remainder of my Estate both real & personal in this or any other Part of the World to my dear Son Thomas Joell (hereby empowering my Exers hereafter named to sell such Part of my Estate either real or personal as may be sufficient to discharge the Legalities above bequeathed together with my just Debts and funeral Expenses) to be freely possessed and enjoyed by him & his Heirs for ever.

And Lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my dear Son Thomas Joell and my Friend & Neighbor Nathan Tart to be the Executors of this my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal dated this fifth of November and in the Year of our Lord one thous and seven hundred and eighty-five.
