In the name of God, Amen, I John Griffin of Southampton Tribe in the .. islands, being very aged, but of perfect health both in body and mind, praise bee the name of the Lord, therefore and calling to mind the uncertain state of this transitory life, doe make, constitute, ordaine and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following:

and first I give my soul to almighty God hopeing through the merritts, death and passion of his only son, my redeemer to have remission of all my sins and my body to bee decently buried att the discretion of my executors hereafter named, and for such temporall estate it has pleased God to bestow upon mee I give and dispose as followeth.

I give and bequeath unto my honored friends Capt. Thomas Richards and to his wife Mrs Agnes Richards to each of them separately five pounds in money of these islands

I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Hinson, wife of Capt. Hinson the sum of forty shillings.

I give and bequeath unto Capt. Cornelius Hinson's six sons to be equally divided amongst their survivor of them the sum of sixteene pounds money afforesaid

I give and bequeath unto Mr Richard Pytt Sen'r of Pembrook Tribe five pounds money.

I give and bequeath unto Jonathan Tucker the sum of five pounds money.

I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Spofforth tenn pounds in money.

I give and bequeath unto George Legera the sum of five pounds.

I give and bequeath unto Wm Rivers cooper? the sum of three pounds.

I give and bequeath unto the persons hereafter named (viz)James Paynter, Bethela Leacroft, Dinah Pitts, John Rivers, Nehemiah Rivers, Nicholas Evans, Perient Trott the son of Perient Trott dec'd, Benjamin Rivers and Josiah Hinson? to each twenty shillings in money. I also give unto Mary Morris servant to Capt. Richards twenty shillings also to John Jennins son of John Jennins dec'd. I give and bequeath twenty shillings.

I give and bequeath unto Samuell Sherlock, Elizabeth Gibbs widdow and relect of John Gibbs, Grace Rivers widdow, Frances Veasey widdow, Joseph Rivers, William Leacroft and to Thomas Leacroft of the west side to each person above mentioned forty shillings

And I doe hereby devise that my loving ffriends Mr Jonathan Tucker and Mr John King do take upon them selves as my executors and doe appoint the same to be executors of this and to this my will and testament and for there trouble in the ___ and honest performance of the same I give and bequeath to each of them the sum of five pounds current money ___ after funerall caharges and just debt is duly satisfied and paid.

In witness whereof, I the said do hereunto set my hand and seal this thiryfirst day of October in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred ninety and six. The sealling hereof I give unto John Dickinson June'r five pounds mony.

I hereby certifye that this eighth day of December in the yeare of our Lord personally appeared before mee the Governor aforesaid Mr George Tucker and subscribed his name as witness to the will above written and solemnly made oath that he saw the said John Griffen sign seale and declare that __tteing above as his last and testament.
