Bermudas als Somer Islds

In the name of God, Amen, I WILLIAM GREEN of the said Islands Gent. being indisposed in body but of sound mind do make and ordaine this my last will and testament touching my estate in manner following (viz.)

Imp'ris. I give and bequeath unto my loveing wife MARY GREENE for the term of her life my now dwelling house and those two shares of land formerly in the several occupation of WILLIAM LYNDAY (Lindie?) & FRANCIS WELMAN scituate lying and being in Pagetts Tribe in the said Islands and from and after her decease I give and devise same to my nephew NICHOLAS BRENT, the second son of my half sister (by the father), ELIZABETH, late wife of Capt. GEORGE BRENT, now or late of Potomack in Virginia and to the issue of the said NICHOLAS and for want of such issue to my nephew ROBERT BRENT, 3rd son of my said half sister and to his issue. And for default of such issue, then to my niece ELIZABETH BRENT (daughter of my said sister) and to her issue. Also I give my said wife for terme of her life that my one share of land in the said tribe w:ch was formerly in the occupation of JOSHUA NASH. And after her decease I give the said share of land unto the said ROBERT BRENT and his issue, and for want of issue in him to the said NICHOLAS BRENT and his issue. And for default of issue in him, to my niece ELIZABETH BRENT and her issue. And if itt shall happen the said NICHOLAS, ROBERT & ELIZABETH to dye without issue, then I give and devise the said three shares of land (after my wife's death) unto my nephew GEORGE BRENT the first son of my said sister, and to his heirs and assignes forever. Also I give unto my said wife for the terme of her life two acres and a half of comon land lying att Hungry Bay in Pagitts Tribe aforesaid. After her decease I give the same unto the said ROBERT BRENT and his heirs. The remainders thereof as before my will is that my wife do not comitt or suffer to bee comitted any manner of wast on the said lands.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my nephew MARK ROBERTS son of my half sister (by the father), ANN, the wife of JOHN ROBERTS a Broaker living att Turnestyle Alley in Drury, London. And to them five of the said MARK. All those my two other shares of land in Pagitts Tribe aforesaid and for want of issue in the said MARK, I give the same to the other children of my sister ANNE ROBERTS and to their heirs. And my will is that my executors do take and receive the yearly rents and profitts of the same untill my said nephew MARK do attaine his full age and do yearly pay the said rents and profitts unto ye hands of the said JOHN ROBERTS for the ___ and benefitt of my said nephew wch said two shares of land was formerly in the occupation of WM GREENE decd.

Item. I give unto my said loveing wife sixty pounds in mony and allowing household stuff and utensills of household of every sort and all my stock of cattle of every sort. Also I give her all my plate except a large new silver tankard wch I now expect from England by Mr. BENJAMIN STOWE, which tankard I give to cozen Mrs MARY CHAMBERLAINE, wife of Dr. HUGH CHAMBERLAINE, the younger. Also I give to my said wife six of my negroes being such as shee shall make her choice of the rest of my negroes I desire my executors to sell and dispose of for the best benefitt they can for & towards the performance of this my will. I recommend to my wife to be very kind to my relations.

Item. I give unto my said nephews the said GEORGE BRENT, NICHOLAS BRENT & ROBERT BRENT, �20 prenent money. And to my niece the said ELIZABETH BRENT �60 in money to bee paid into my brother-in-laws hands, the said Capt GEORGE BRENT for their use. I give unto the said Capt BRENT my sett of gold shoe buckles & my silver shoe buckles & all my law books.

Item. I give unto my mother in law Mrs MARY GREEN

Item. I give unto my said sister ANN ROBERTS �40 in money. To my nephew MARK ROBERTS �50 in money and to such other children as my said sister shall have att my death. These last two sumes of money to bee paid into my brother in law's hands the said JOHN ROBERTS for his said children's use part of wch legacies to bee paid in such moneys (as far as itt will goe) as I have lying in England in the hands of Mr. JOHN JENNOR, mercht in London.

Item. I give unto Mrs MARY CHAMBERLAINE & her two children �20 a piece in money and to my two cousins, her brothers Mr WILLIAM and Mr JOHN HUNT �20 a piece in money. And I also give to my cousins ISABELL & SUSAN GREENE the daughters of my uncle ANTHONY GREENE of Canterburgh �20 a piece in money.

Item. I give to my cosen ELIZABETH EDWARDS wife of Mr WILLIAM EDWARDS wine cooper in London �20 in money.

Item. I give unto my cousin ANNE wife of . . . haggerra of Acton, near London, daughter of my uncle WM WILSON (my mother's brother) the sume of �10 in money.

Item. I give to my cousins the children of my uncle GEORGE WILSON late of the city of Worchester, Glover, deced the sume of �160 to be equally divided amongst them.

Item. And my will and meaning is that if any of these children above named of my sister ELIZABETH BRENT or of my sister ANNE ROBERTS shall happen to dye before payment bee made of the legacies hereby given to them out of my personal estate that then the part of him her or them so dying shall remaine and come to the survivors of them respectively.

Item. I give to RICHARD JAMES �5 and to JAMES BASSETT 50 shillings and to the poor of Pagitt's Tribe five pounds and five pounds five pence more to bee expended on my tombe or monument.

Item. I give and bequeath the debt of �60.18.5 due unto mee in right of my wife from Mr JOHN KeDGELL on a judgement unto my wife and her two brothers MrWILLIAM WATLINGTON and Mr JOHN WATLINGTON to be equally divided between them.

Item. I doe hereby nominate and appoint my very good friends Mr CHARLES WALKER and Mr WILLIAM PITT executors of this my last will and testament to whom I give the sume of five pounds a piece if they bee pleased to accept this executorshipp. I also appoint my very good friend Mr JOHN TUCKER another executor of this my will to whom I give the like sume of five pounds if hee is pleased to accept the executorshipp. And I doe desire my excutors with all convenient speed? after my death to make a perfect inventory and exact appraisement of all my personal estate & every part and parcel thereof and the same to exhibitt into ye office for that purpose.

Item. All the rest and residue of all my personal estate of what nature or kind soever & wheresoever lying or being after my debts funerall and legacies aforementioned are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath unto the children of my sister ELIZABETH BRENT and my sister ANNE ROBERTS to be equally divided betweene them and the survivors of them. I do hereby also appoint & nominate my loveing friend Mr BENJAMIN WAINWRIGHT to bee another executor of this my will to whom I give five pounds if hee accepts the executorshipp.

Item. And if it shall happen my wife to dye before mee, or within the space of twelve months after mee, that then and in either of the said cases, my will is that the several legacies herein given unto her out of my personall estate shall bee void and revoked. And that the same legacies shallcome and accruement to the children of my said two sisters in equal manner. And my desire is that my executors do returne the several legacies above expressly mentioned_o:ble in England either in weighty money or else in comodities of this Island as the legatees shall direct. I ffurther desire my executors to send coppies of this my will to my relations in London & Virginia or else to acquaint them of the contents of itt.

Lastly. I renounce all former wills or testaments by mee hertofore made and do declare this to bee my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said WILLIAM GREENE have hereinto sett my hand & seale dated the fifteenth day of August in the fourth yeare of the reigne of William and Mary King and Queen of England &c Annoq: Dni: 1692.

Then personally appeared before mee, Sam.l Daffye, John Thornton, Tho Dunscomb, and Richard James, and did make oaths upon the Holy Evangelists that they saw the testator Wm Greene signe, seal, deliver, publish, and declare the instrument of writing contained (illegible).. sheet of paper to bee his last will and testament and that att the time of doing thereof, he was of sound mind and memory.
