Bermuda alias Somer Islands

By His Excell:y George James Bruere Esquire Governor and Ordinary of these Islands

To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern Greeting

Whereas the Honoble Thomas Gilbert late of Warwick Parish Esquire deceased without making any last will and testament in writing and his estate as yet remains unadministered on: And Whereas John Gilbert Gentleman son of the said deceased hath prayed for administration on the estate of the said deceased, he having entered into bond with sufficient security truly to administrate as the law in such cases hath provided and directed, and also due publication hath been lately made thereof and no cause appearing to me to the contrary. Now therefore know ye that I have committed and by these presents do committ authorize and allow him the said John Gilbert the administration of all and singular the goods chattells and personal estate of the said Thomas Gilbert deceased whereof or wherein he was possessed or interested and which shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of him the said John Gilbert or any other for him. And I do hereby authorize him the said John Gilbert to be administrator hereby charging him that on oath he do take or cause to made to be made a true and perfect inventory or account in writing of all and singular the goods chattels and personal estate of the said deceased and the same cause to be valued and appraised by three or more honest and indifferent persons by me the Governor and Ordinary aforesaid to be approved and allowed. And the same inventory and appraisement to be made and taken he the said administrator to exhibit in writing into the Secretary's office of these islands within fifteen days next ensuing and also that he render unto me or my successors full and true account of the said administration and all his doings and proceedings therein on oath when thereunto required, he the said administrator always endemnifying me the Governor and Ordinary aforesaid, my successors & ministers for and in respect of the premises.

A True and Perfect Inventory and Appraisement of all and Singular the Goods Chattells and Personal Estate of the Honoble Thomas Gilbert Esq. deceased viz:t
(inventory of property follows... includes the sloop "Three Brothers" with all her tackle & rigging &c valued at 1010 pounds; a quarter part of the schooner "Lovely Peggy", Gilbert Livingston commander at sea.)

I do hereby certifie that this fifth day of September 1769 before me personally appeared John Gilbert Administrator of all and singular the goods chattels and personal estate of the Honoble Thomas Gilbert Esq. deceased... who solemnly made oath on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that the foregoing contains a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and personal estate of the said Thomas Gilbert his father late deceased which hath come to his knowledge.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at arms the day and year above written.

I do hereby certifie that this ninth day of October 1769 before me personally appeared Capt John Brownlow and Mr Robert Davenport who solemnly made oath on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that the sums to each article of the foregoing inventory are just and true value of the same according to the best of their judgements.
