In the name of God, Amen, the last will and testament of John Darrell of Warwick Tribe, gent, and at this present, being weak of bodie but of perfect memorie in manner and form as followeth.

Imprimis. I bequeath my soule to Almighty God, my creator, confidently and and steadfastly hoping and afterwardly to receive remicion of sinns and finally everlasting life in and through the meritts, suffering & sacrifice of my blessed saviour and redeemer the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. I give my bodie to the earth from where it came to have christian buriall, my debts with funerall charges being first satisfyied and paid.

3. I give to my truly loving wife Sarah Darrell my now dwelling house and two shares and a half lot of land lying in Warwick Tribe. And all my Negros undisposed before my death. All being now in my possession with all the household stuff furniture, ___, cattell, and what else is in my wife belonging or appurtenances of both said house and two shares and halfe of land during her naturall life, with all the profitts and favor that in that time may arise from the same to be at her owne free disposing on the said and in following that in case my wife shall marrie after my decease before her marriage, bee that into be her husband shall give _____ into the Secretaries Office to leave the aforesaid estate at my wifes decease in as good ___ was in at his receipt those of to such person or persons as is here after nominated.

4. I give to my loving wife Sarah Darrell two negro ___, one called Black Moll, the other Black Nann(?). And another Negro man called Black Jefferie to dispose of to ___ as she pleaseth.

5. I give to my oldest sonn John Darrell my north side halfe share of land now in his possession jux of his mother Sarah Darrell.

6. I give to my oldest sonn John Darrell after the decease of his mother Sarah Darrell, my now dwelling house and two shares of land purchases of Mr Robert Tucker and now in my possession in Warwick Tribe with all the wodden furniture that is now thereunto belonging to him my said sonn and issue male of his bodie for want of issue male then living, then to my second sonn Joseph Darrell and his issue male, and if want of male issue male by him, then to my third sonn James Darrell and his issue male. And if want of issue male in him, then successively to the issue male that be then succedding.

7. I give to my third sonn James Darrell and his issue male one share of land lying and being in Pagetts Tribe and the dwelling house now in the possession of my sonn in law George Wainwright, to him the said James Darrell and his heires forever.

8. I give to my sonn George Darrell and his heires forever that North side share of my land in Southampton Tribe with the dwelling house thereon belonging after the decease of my loving brother in law and sister in law Henry and Sarah Tucker, which said house and land is now in their possession.

Item. I give to my said sonn George Darrell after my decease the rent of the said share of land being two hundred pounds of tobacco approx

Item. I give to my said sonn George Darrell my negro girle called Black Laddie and one negro girle called Black Hestor?.

9. I give to my sonn Nathaniel Darrell my south side share of land in Southampton Tribe after the decease of my loving brother in law and sister in law Henry and Sarah Tucker, it being now in their possession with the yearly rent of the same ___ two hundred pounds of tobacco ___ . And if my said sonn Nathaniel Darrell shall die without issue lawfully begotten then I give the said share of land to my said sonn George Darrell and his heires forever.

10. I give to my youngest sonn Samuel Darrell my ____ share of land in Warwick Tribe at or after the decease of his mother Sarah Darrell with the dwelling house thereon now in the possession of my oldest sonn John Darrell. And in case my said sonn Samuel Darrell shall die without issue lawfully begotten, then I give the said share of land to my oldest sonn John Darrell and his heires forever. And in case my said sonn Samuel Darrell or his heires shall depart these islands _______ my said sonn Samuel Darrell and his heires shall sell and dispose of the said share of land to my oldest sonn John Darrell or his heires, issue or they giving the same rate for it that another would give.

11. I give tyo my oldest sonn John Darrell my storehouse uppon the north side share of my land in Southampton Tribe with halfe another of land lying round about it. And the wharfe thereunto belonging.

12. I give to my grandaughter Sarah Nelmes twenty pounds ___ or the value thereof to be paid at twenty one or the day of her marriage if before. I likewise give to her one Negro boy called Black George after the decease of her grandmother or before, if her grandmother shall so please.

13. I give to my grandson John Nelmes five pounds ____ at the day of _______.

14. I give to younger brother Robert Darrell (in case he be in the land of the living) ten pounds ___ to be paid ___. And in case of his mortality the said ten pounds to be given equally betwixt his two youngest children or ____ of them.

15. I give unto John Darrell the eldest sonn of my brother Robert Darrell two shillings to buy him a Bible, that he may no forget his duty towards God and no more because of his stubborness and disobedience.

16. I give to my sonn John Darrell after the decease of my loving wife Sarah Darrell my negro woman Maria, my negro woman Ladde, my negro man Tomm and my negro man Will, and my negro man Danie.

17. I give to my sonn John Darrell after the decease of my loving wife Sarah Darrell one negro boy called Black Jack.

18. I give to my sonn Samuel, after the decease of his mother Sarah Darrell, one negro man called Bartus.

19. My will is that all my timber, and treese fitt for timber, growing or lying uppon my land in Southampton and Warwick Tribe shall be cutt downe, felld, squared and sawed. And the same to be sould to the best advantage for the remaining of ___ toward the payment of my debts and legacies always provided there be sufficient proportion left standing uppon said share of land for reparation of building and storing.

20. My will is that all goods, monies, or debts due to me in England, Barbados, Carolina, New Providence and Bermuda or anywhere (either by bill, bond, reckoning or account) after the receipt of the same or any parts or parcell thereof, the same shall be equally divided (my debts and legacies being first paid) the one fourth to my wife and three fourth amongst my children.

21. My will is that my part of shipping that belongeth to me, goods in warehouses or storehouses, which I have not aforedisposed in this my will, may likewise be sould (my debts and legacies being paid) the produce thereof equally divided, the one fourth part to my loving wife, and the other three fourth parts to my children.

22. My will is that parts or portions of my estate that I have given to my children shall fall to the latter portion of my daughter Ann Rennalls shall be delivered into the hands and possession of her mother Sarah Darrell, or whom she shall appoint after her decease, to be distributed to my daughter Ann Rennalls as her necessities shall require, and that no part or portion of it come into the hands of her destructive husband Ezrah Rennals.

23. I make my loving wife Sarah Darrell my executrix and my two sonns John and Joseph my executors jointly with their mother, of this my last will and testament, contained in two sheetes of paper, oath of them signed with my hand and sealed with my seale.

Lastly I make my loving relations, my brother Henry Tucker Sr, and my kinsman Captain Lieft John Bristow overseers of this my last will and testament. And doo order my executors to deliver to each of them two shillings apiece to buy them a ring to weare in remembrance of mee.

Last of all my will is that what part or portion of bedding, linen, plate and household stuff that is not ___ that shall remain at the decease of my wife be equally divided amongst my children then living.

Nathaniel Prudden and Henrie Tucker Sr and secreterie did then appear before mee Sir John Heydon, Knight, Governor and Ordinary of Sumer Islands and did attest uppon oath that they did see John Darrell Sr aforesaid signe, seale the will aforesaid contained and signed in two ____ the daie and yeare first above written.
