The SS Canima

from Bermuda to the Port of New York, 1876

I, Thos Lidelicoat, master of the Steamship Canima, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following list or manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collections District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all passengers taken on board of the said ship at Hamilton, Bermuda from which port said ship has now arrived... So help me God. (signed) T Lidelicoat, sworn to this 25 Sept 1876.

List: name, age, sex, occupation, country to which they belong, country which they intend to inhabit, part of vessel occupied during voyage. No passengers died on this voyage.

(Note: Bermuda Newspaper account dated Oct 30 1877:
William E Witter, in his 51st year, a native of Bermuda, First Officer of the Canima, drowned at sea on Oct 27, when swept overboard in a gale, en route from New York to Bermuda. He left a wife, 3 sons, 4 sisters. He was one of Bermuda's most experienced mariners, and had joined the Canima in January 1874 (full account given in article).
