5 Mar 1705 a petition addressed to the Queen advising that Gov Bennett had suspended
Edward Jones, legally convicted of wilful perjury and other crimes, that he did
clandestinely made his escape from these islands, and falsely misrepresented the Bermudians to be stubborn
and ill-tempered. The affidavits which had been transmitted had been miscarried by means of
the enemy, preventing the truth being laid before Her Most Sacred Majesty. Petition signed
