"Court of General Assize:

The Court met yesterday for the May Term. An Assize Sermon was preached at Pembroke Church by the Rev. Robert Hoare. On the meeting at the Court, after a short charge from the Judge, Indictments were found by the Grand Jury, against Joe, a slave, the property of John Barr, Esqr, and against Bryan Shea, and Edward McDonald, two soldiers of the 96th Regt., for high-way robbery.

The Slave, Joe, was put upon his trial (under the Colonial Slave Act) and convicted.

The case of Bryan Shea and Edward McDonald will come on this morning.

In the case of Joe Albuoy, who was indicted under the statute of Henry VIII, at the Assizes im May last, and sentenced to death, a pardon was pleaded, conditioned, that he should be transported to New South Wales, Van Dietman's Land, or some of the Islands adjacent thereto.

By the Court- Upon motion for judgement by the Attorney General, in this case, there was a motion at the last May term upon two points; 1st that the statute, on which the indictment was found, was not in force here and --- that the evidence adduced..."
