Minutes of HM Council: 2 December 1740
Att a Councill holden at the House of his Excellency the Governor on Tuesday the 2nd
day of December 1740.

The Governor desires that the Councill attend and meet in St Georges as often as an alarm still happen. Agreed so.
The Councill desires that His Excellency would be pleased to give orders to the Generalls that the severall Captains or other commanding officers of the Militia Company to appoint one sufficient person out of his Company diligently to look out at such places as the Capts shall appoint in their respective parishes through these Islands at the setting of the Sun every evening who upon sight of two or more vessels is to report the same immediately to his Commanding Officers that a double watch be kept that night His Excellency readily concurred to the same.
The Governor by advise of the Councill gave directions that the owners or Masters of slaves should bring or send their slaves around according to the purport of the act to regulate the militia passed in 1690 and 1691 so every rendez-vous when ever an alarm shall happen and whenever else they shall receive orders for that purpose.
