Minutes of HM Council: 5 November 1740

Att a Councill holden at the House of his Excellency the Governor on Wednesday the 5th day of November 1740.
Present:

The Governor communicated to the Councill a letter he yesterday received from his grace the Duke of NuCastle one of his Majesties Principal Secretarys of State dated the 18th April last an Act for more effectually securing and encouraging the trade of his Majesties British Subjects to America and for the encouragement of Seamen to enter into his Majesties Service and also his Majesties Proclamation relating thereto which were read.

Ajourn'd to the afternoon.

Eodem Die. In the afternoon present the same members as in the forenoon ordered that the proclamation and Act of Parliament in the forenoon read be publicly read at the head of every Company throughout these Islands with all possible speed.

Ordered that Samll Coulson be paid out of the Publick Treasury forty shillings for his yesterday's attendance and service as Pilott on board one of his Majesties men of warr which was then lying off these Islands with eleven ships more under his convoy bound for Virginia and that the sum of twenty shillings be likewise paid out of the Publick Treasury to be divided between the three persons that attended the said Pilot on that day's service.

Ordered that publication be made throughout these Islands for all persons having any demands on the Publick to send their bills to the Clerk of his board by or before the first Tuesday in December next in order to be taxed and passed as usuall. Ordered that the Committee of the Assembly appointed for taxing and passing such bills have notice to attend accordingly at a council holden at the house of His Excellency the Governor Tuesday 2nd day of December 1740.
