Minutes of HM Council: 31 May 1687
At a Councell held at St Georges May the 31st 1687.

Mr Wm Greene, Mr Charles Walker & Mr W Pitt ordered to goe to Col Coney who in time of his Government bound the persons under specified with sureties to appear whan told, to give a reason for his so doing. Mr Thomas Outerbridge & Mr Micaell Burrows, for Capt Christopher Burrows. Mr John Place for Mr Copeland Lea. John Welsh & James Wright, for Mr Thomas Burton. John Tucker & Anthony Jenour for Mr Richard Stafford. Thomas Outerbridge & Joseph Cox, for Wm Outerbridge. John Tucker & Daniel Tucker, for William Bell.
Col Coney's answer to the Counsellers was that he would answer the matter to the King his Master.
Ordered that there be a comition granted to the Justices of the Peace, Capt Anthony White, Capt Edward Johnston, Capt Francis Dickinson & Mr Anthony Peniston to make inquiry into and give an account of what loss & damage Mr Richard Stafford, Capt George Bascome, Capt William Keele and Mr William Righton suffered by Col Coneys sending them prisoner to England.
Upon reading ye petition of Hugh Hardin, Miles Higgs, Sen, John Stirrop, Daniell Stowe and John Cornish following forth their names were set to a writing on petition and sent to the Lords in England John Harlo was examined who declares that he saw Capt Samuel Brangman ser severall men's names to a writing which was sent to the Lords in England the persons not being present.
Upn the petition of Mr Thomas Burton (attorney to Mr Stephen Higgs) for a negro boy which Coll Coney in his time of Government delivered to Mr Caron, the Court for severall reasons leaves him to the law for the same.
