Minutes of HM Council: 4 September 1739

At a Councill holden at the house of His Excelcy the Governr. on Tuesday the 4th day of Septr 1739.

William Riddell Esqr being sent by his Excellency the Govr in Councill to attend him there he according attended, to whom his Excellency delivered his mandamus which being read he took the usuall Oaths appointed by Act of Parliament and as Councillor of and for these Islands and then took his seat at the Board accordingly.

His Excellency this day by advice of Councill appointed Major Thomas Gilbert of Warwick Tribe Justice of the Peace of and for the said Tribe in the room of William Riddell Esq late Justice of the Peace thereof. Ordered that the Secretary make out a commission accordingly for his EXcellency's signing.

This day was assed and allowed his EXcellency's bill amounting to the sum of seventeen pounds two shillings and fivepence so much cash by him advanced for the removing and mounting of seven guns at the several batteries of these Islands persuant to a former desire of this Board which same is ordered by this Board to be paid out of Publick Treasury of these Islands.

Ordered by his Excellency in Councill that writts dfor electing of Assemblymen be forthwith made out by the Secretary to be returned on or before the twentyninth instant and that the assembly so elected meet on Tuesday the second day of the next month at the Town of St George's.
