Minutes of HM Council:  Monday 1 April  1715

Att a Council  holden at the  Sessions House in St Georges on Monday April 1st, 1715.

This day a scandalous letter containing divers virulent reflections upon this Court was delivered to this Court by Mr Samuel harvey signed Edward Jones and sealed and directed as followeth:

To the Honourable Michael Burrows Esq President and the rest of the Honourable Gentlemen of his Majesties Council being the Court of Chancery in Bermuda.

The said Samuel Harvey being called into Court and ask't by the president where he got the scandalous letter, said Harvey answered Capt Jones gave it him and desired him to deliver it to this Court and teh said Harvey being asked again by this Court whether it was sealed up when it was delivered to him, he answered noe, being further asked whether he  read it, he answered yes, about two days agoe and sealed it up himself. Whereupon it is ordered unanimously by this Court that George Tucker Esq Provost Marshall General of these ISlands do immediately take the Samuel Harvey into Custody for his Contempt offered to this Court therein And it is further ordered that the said Samuel harvey be prosecuted for the said scandalous letter at the next assizes to be held for these Islands.
