Minutes of HM Council: Monday 16 November 1696
Att a Council table held att His Excellency the Governor's on Monday the sixteenth day of November in the yeare of our Lord 1696.
Present:
His Excellency John Goddard Esq Governor
Samuell Trott Esq
Capt Gilbert Nelson
Capt John Tucker
Capt Wm OuterbridgeBee it remembered that Stephen Crow Esqr Sheriff or Provost Marshall Generall of these Islands here this day appearing this board thought to demand of him as followeth, viz:
Qr. At whose suite or action and by what order doth hee the said Sheriff hold and detaine Isaac Richier the Late Lieutenant Governor in Person.
Resp. To which hee the said Sheriffe answereth That hee holds him the said Mr Richier by Virtue of a Capias Utlegatum To him directed under the hands and seales of the Justices of Assize and Issued out against him the said Mr Richier att the suite of Nicholas Trott Senr Esqr Governor of the Bahamas for L1246.2.9. damages besides cost of suite.
Qr. Doth the said Sheriffe hold or detaine or hath he never held him the said Isaac Richier att the suite of John Goddard Esqr the present Governor of these Islands or by any order of his written or verball.
Resp. That hee the said Sheriffe did not nor ever did he hold him the said Mr Richier att any suite or on any account of His Excellency the Present Governor, but doth hold and detaine him only att the suite and on the account of the said Governor Trott as aforesaid And att none other suite or any other account whatsoever.
