14th Generation

10320 George Parmenter Sr.4,215, p. 269 Born ca 1490.

There is no definitive evidence to link William as the father of George, Sr., but it’s a reasonable possibility.

The Lay Subsidies for Hinckford Hundred, co. Essex, Little Yeldham, 34-35 Henry VIII (1542-44):

10418 Thomas Ryse.4 Born in 1500 in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England. Thomas died in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England, on 11 May 1560; he was 60.

The link between Rose Rysse (Rice) and Thomas and Anna Ryse seems at least a little suspect with Rose being born in Caston, Norfolk, while the birthplace of her father is given as Bures St. Mary, a town on the Suffolk/Essex border a good bit to the south. Anna’s birthplace in Walsham le Willows is in north-central Suffolk. Until some confirming information can be found, the ancestry of Rose Rysse must remain in doubt.

While living here he inherited by the will of his father in 1584/5 four acres of land called ‘The Lees,’ an enclosed field called ‘Mays’ and a legacy of £20 in money. He later returned to Great Easton, where he died in 1612, aged about sixty- seven years. In various records he is termed a husbandman [farmer].”

Seven children

10648 William Brackett.468, pp. 68-9, 72 Born ca 1520 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. Estimated. William died in Sudbury, Suffolk, England, in May 1575; he was 55. Buried on 6 May 1575 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. St. Peter’s Parish. Occupation: Butcher.

Perhaps had another (older ?) daughter besides Maud who married Peter Haliwell.

His will was dated 4 May 1575 and proved 5 July 1575. In the will he specified to be buried in the church yard of St. Gregory, but the record is in the parish of St. Peter. In the will he mentions his wife Alice, sons Richard, William, and Edmond, daughter Maud, and brother George. Son Richard was his executor, and George Brackett and a John Brackett (relation unspecified) were among the witnesses.

There is an Edward Brackett, balie [old term for bailiff ?]of the town of Sudbury, Suffolk. His will, dated 20 June 1540 mentions his children John, James, Edward, George, and Faythe, so he is apparently not the father of William. However, Edward’s wife’s name is Maud, and William has a daughter named Maud, which suggests some family connection. Perhaps Edward is an uncle of William, as he seems to be of the prior generation.

He married Alice Unknown ca 1543 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. Estimated.

They had the following children:
i. Edmond468, p. 72 (ca1545-)
5324 ii. Richard (ca1550-)
