Meetings, Classes, Study Groups, and Seminars

BIFHS-USA has joined the Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS) to become its BRITISH ISLES INTEREST GROUP (BIIG). The group will continue to meet monthly on the 4th Sunday (except December), from 1:00PM to 5:00PM, with our meeting location alternating between the Southern California Genealogical Society Library (SCGS), 417 Irving Dr. in Burbank, and the Los Angeles FamilySearch Library (LAFSL, formerly known as the Los Angeles Family History Library) at 1631 E. Temple Way in Los Angeles 90024 (from Santa Monica Blvd., enter from Eastborne at Manning). In odd-numbered months we'll meet at LAFHL; in even-numbered months, at SCGS.

TOPIC: Finding Jane Mawer: Breaking Through a Brick Wall in 18th Century England

Professor Johnson will take you through the frustrations and exultations in the search for his third great grandmother Jane Mawer in rural Lincolnshire, England, detailing the sources he used.

(with the French-Canadian group) -- Come early in October and hear the French-Canadian group's presentation on Ancestors Involved in the Fur Trade in the 17th and 18th Centuries (10:00 AM - ­Noon) with speaker Jerry England, editor of the Ripples from La Prairie Voyageur Canoes blog. Pizza ($5 contribution/person) or bring-your-own-lunch (Noon­ - 1:00 PM) and research time (1:00­ PM - 4:00 PM) will follow.
