SCHLOSS KREISCH - GRAFENBURG BETHLEN - COUNT BETHLEN'S CASTLE

Ein Ast der Ungarischen Adelsfamilie BETHLEN besitzten die Dörfer von Kreisch, Felsendorf, Peschendorf, Malmkrog, Rauthal und Neudorf und deren Leute waren großtenteils Leibeigene bis 1848. Diese Dörfer waren auf Komitätsboden und nicht Teil des Königsboden. Durch die Dienstleute im Schloß, hatte Kreisch mehr Ungarn und mehr Kontakt mit andere Teile Europas als Dörfer wie Dunesdorf (siehe in den Kreischer Kirchenbücherregister für Beispiele!). A branch of the Hungarian noble family BETHLEN owned the villages of Kreisch, Felsendorf, Peschendorf, Malmkrog, Rauthal and Neudorf and their people were essentially serfs until 1848.These villages were Komitätsboden and not part of the Königsboden. Because of the castle staff, Kreisch had more Hungarians and more contact with the rest of Europe than villages like Dunesdorf (see the Kreisch Church Register Indexes for examples!). Dieses Schloß wurde 1559-1598 gebaut. Schon 1280 stand ein holzernes Schloß an diesem Ort. Der letzte Graf war 1945 enteignet und die Gebäude als Lager für Kunstdünger gebraucht. Hin und wieder werden Restaurierungsarbeiten angefangen, aber der Verfall macht Vorschritte.	This castle was built 1559-1598. A wooden fort and castle already stood on this spot in 1280. The last count was dispossessed in 1945 and the buildings used for fertilizer storage. Attempts at restoration are made periodically, but the deterioration progresses.

Schloß in Kreisch (print from watercolour, undated, unsigned) "Altes Schloß" - consists of of 4 levels:
1) servant's rooms
2) open arcade with covered outside staircase, Count's family rooms with arched ceilings which open into each other: Dining Room (Eßzimmer) (north end), Living Room, Ballroom (Saal), private rooms (at south end and in the tower)
3) grand entrance through an archway with paired staircases to next level, kitchen (north end), central hallway between smaller rooms
4) cellars
