The Lord Melville was the second ship to bring convicts direct from England to Hobart (after the Indefatigable). It left england and the Downs, off Kent, on 18 Jul 1818, carrying 31 guards and 148 male prisoners, one of whom died on the voyage.
The Cawthorn family including George Milne and Mr. Ford appear to have been the only passengers. (see HTG 19 Dec 1818)
