SWAN HILL REGIONAL LIBRARY NEWS

New Books:
Paddlesteamers and Riverboats of the River Murray   By Peter Christopher
Axiom Publishing 2000   ISBN: 1864760400
This book is in our collection at: ANF 386.224 CHR
The author has "dived on wrecks throughout Australia, and also on historical sites in the River Murray.  It was during more recent dive trips he developed an interest in river boats."

More information on Riverboats:   can be found in the "Heritage Room" in the local history collection.  There are several books on Paddlesteamers and Murray River history.  Try looking in the local history book collection, under the subject heading : "River Transport" and in the photographic collection in the "P" folder, under "P.S...." for paddlesteamers.  (You may take photocopies of the information in the Heritage Room, but the collection is not for loan.)  Also, on the library's on-line catalogue, search under the subject heading: "Paddle steamers - Australia" and you will find several books listed.

Heritage Room:
The local history collection in the "Heritage Room" has been available to the public for a couple of months now since unpacking after the re-location of the library.  We are still working on spreading some of the books out and putting up display boards etc.  Bookings are now required on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the Family Search" computer which is now located in the "Heritage Room".  Please see the Genealogical volunteer on duty to make a booking.  The maximum booking is one hour per day, with bookings not required during the rest of the week.  The "Family Search" computer will now stay turned on - please do not turn it off when you have finished - and if it requires you to enter a password, please ask a library staff member to type it in for you.

Korea: The Forgotten War, on display:
Members of the local RSL have put up a display in the library featuring photographs, books and medals about Australia's involvement in the Korean War.  This interesting display was put up to help  commemorate Anzac Day, but is likely to be on display in the library for several weeks.
