Jacksonville State Hospital (Historic Asylums) Jacksonville State Hospital aka Illinois State Hospital for the Insane, Jacksonville Developmental Center. Jacksonville, Illinois Established 1847, still in operation.

At its largest, more than 3,000 individuals with mental illness resided at the main campus of more than 100 buildings on 160 acres. Much of the campus has now been deeded to the City of Jacksonville for use as a community park. Today, about 300 adults with developmental disabilities live at the facility.
