ULTIMATE way to preserve your ancestors old crumbling marker.

This seems to be the most commonly accepted way by professionals to clean algae from tombstones - Lichens and algae can be removed by first thoroughly soaking the stone and then using a wooden scraper to gently remove the biological growth. This process may need to be repeated several times. Wooden picks, such as toothpicks or shish kabob skewers are also useful. NO Bleach or Metal Scrapers.

Turn off road to the south and wind around Efurd farm, cemetery sits in middle of barnyard. On land probably owned previously by Lorenzo Dow Gilstrap. NOTE: This cemetery is on private property and is difficult to find without a guide. It is suggested that permission to enter Mr. Efurd's land be obtained before visiting. If Mr. Stinebaugh is not available, contact local Postmaster for present caretaker. Cemetery caretaker in 1992 was Lester Stinebaugh. North of Slatonville community. When traveling south of Hackett on Highway 45, turn west onto paved Slatonville Road. Down this road is the cemetery. It is on the east side of the road. The driveway does not go directly to the house, but had a "bend" or two and was slightly uphill, probably 10 to 15 feet rise, but not much of a hill. The old Phillips Cemetery is back behind the farmhouse in the woods. The road had a gate that you had to go through. It is not known the name of the previous or present-day owner. The story - There were 2 friends who started the cemetery & had an argument, so one went about 1 1/2 miles down the road and started "New" Providence Cemetery which was also know as Hicks Cemetery Travel west on Highway 252, from Highway 45 [south of Hackett] through the Slatonville junction, up a steep hill, toward the Oklahoma line. The burial ground is on the right after you top the hill.
