The Kaufman family went in the mail hack to Lavaca to visit the Hickman family who lived near the Arkansas River NW of Lavaca.

Young Jim McCrea was one of the first rural carriers in this area. He is pictured along with his horse and mail pouches, ready for the appointed route.
